Tacos N Subs has been a fixture in cartersville since the '70s. If you have had the Mexicali, you will crave it on a weekly or monthly basis. It has changed hands a few times in recent years, so the Mexicali is not quite the original recipe, but it is still very good. All of the food is Tex-Mex, but I have never been to a restaurant with food that is remotely similar. I also recommend the Mui Grande Nachos with hot sauce, and potato panchos. I don't recommend the hot sauce on the Mexicali, it detracts from the flavor of that dish. The service is a little weird. They have someone that is pouring drinks, and that is a little awkward, but overall it is fine. I think they did that for covid. Tacos N Subs?! Okay, I'll bite. For this initial visit we ordered tacos and nachos. Outside of that the menu is filled with tradition, classic Mexican fare and subs, obviously. The tacos are super reasonable priced at under $2 each. They are a crunch taco, which I know isn't exactly traditional but honestly there was a certain nostalgia to it bringing you back to taco night at home. I'm not going to lie, I thought the tacos were delicious. Well seasoned meat and loaded. We did the beef and the chicken with the chicken being the favorite of the two. We also ordered the nachos which are tradition nachos in that each chip is topped. Personally I prefer nachos this way as every bite is evening distributed. These particular nachos, however, are just served on half of a taco shell. It's basically an opened face taco. They were good but you might as well just get the tacos. The restaurant is kind of small and there isn't a lot of luster to it. I think this is more of a to go type place as there were a ton of orders going out the door but nobody really dining in. The biggest complaint is the wait. We ordered 8 tacos and the nachos and waited over 40 minutes. The place was somewhat busy but we are taking tacos here. The meat didn't seem to be cooked to order. It shouldn't take that long to stuff a shell and wrap it up. If not for the ridiculous wait I would easily give this place a 4 star rating. Cartersville mainstay since 1978. Thankfully the "new" owners the Tidwell's did some much needed redecorating of that 1978 decor. The food is the same as it has always been so if you are craving relatively fast Tex-Mex this should be your go to. read more

Well..... It wasn't terrible but it really wasn't anything special either. The tacos tasted like the ones I make at home with an old El Paso kit but I like that flavor so I'm not mad. The macho nachos were ok for being broken in half tacos lol. The chicken quesadilla sucked!!! Sorry to say that but it's true. No flavor at all. This won't be my first choice for Mexican food in Cartersville but the other 3 places I tried weren't good either. To the owners please!!!!!!!!!! Stop using plastic plates!!!!! Update: Was back in Acworth... This place was no more. They now just have this location. I question anyone's taste-buds if you find their food tasting good. We ate at the new Acworth location. This place was a joke. We got our food and laughed. Literally laughed at the food. We got chicken nachos... It was stale and literally a tortilla shell split in half with cheese melted on top. The girl comes out and asks if we want to replace our food. We said no and just left. The taco was pale and inedible. Pass this place up. Taco Bell tastes 10 times better. I'd rather deal with the explosive butt mud from eating at Taco Bell than to come back here and eat! read more

Ok this place can start out looking very promising looking at the menu. The decor is crazy but I'm not one to judge on decor as long as I good seating. So back to menu they have a book with pictures and descriptions because the menu is so large and has Mexican and American Mexican like hamburgers which is just taco meat on a bun. Anyway we got a combo for 7.99 and we both got the potato poncho which is a must if you dare try this place. We got a taco salad and soncho grande also.. Lots of food or should I say lots of ground beef. So much your tummy will beg you to stop. Somebody mentioned this as a redneck Taco Bell well it's close.. Reason is the lack of flavor the sauce doesn't matter if you get hot or mild you won't be able to tell. The food we got was fresh and hot guess depends on time of day. Service is slow. The menu is simple and when ordering solely from what is offered without special needs (hold this, extra that), it can still take up to 20 minutes for an order to be ready. This is "old school" gringo Mexican food like we all had growing up in the 70's and 80's. Its good food but don't expect authenticity in their recipes. First I want to say I've been going here since 1985. It's always been a great place to eat, ups and downs we've stayed with it. We love the Mexicali's and their Nachos. It's kept the same "home in the wall" appeal for all these years. The food always taste the same and that's what keeps us coming back. I don't really like the new table service. It's odd and we feel like we have to tip although we barely get waited on. I like the old way, where you order your food pick it up and sit. It feels a bit dirty sometimes. And smells like grease, but it's taco and Subs. Hopefully new ownership will clean it up a bit. Love it though! read more

I want to say first that the service was top notch from the cashier to the waitress. The owner spoke to us, very nice. This had to be the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. It was so ridiculous, we could not stop laughing! We ordered cheese dip and chips, easy right? It had big clumps of burnt cheese in it and the chips were stale. They were the broken ones you get at the bottom of the bag. My daughter ordered the mexicali, it was a mexi mess. I ordered the sub with the turkey and ham and some other meat. It was on those stale rolls that the schools use, and the meat was like that cheap bar-s meat you get at the dollar tree... and it was $7. I knew I should have stopped at Quizno's. I could have ate at Taco Bell for half the price and better food, and that is saying a lot. Taco Bell is not my favorite place. I am not exaggerating, it was so bad! I left the waitress a 20% tip because the food was not her fault and she was great. I don't know why it made us laugh so much, I am surprised we did not get kicked out for laughing that much. This is my third trip back to Tacos and Subs since it was sold. The new owners have cleaned it up, but the food quality is noticbly decreased and the prices have increased. It pains me to say this, but in my opinion the restaurant went from four stars to two. This was one of my favorite places, but now its a meeh... Take a minute to look through the Introduction to Taco's and Subs Menu Book on the front counter. It contains pictures and descriptions of the many non-chain menu items. My favorite is the Sancho Grande Hot with minced jalapeno peppers, homemade lemonade and .... don't laugh, a peanut butter cornflake cookie. The exterior and the interior are dated. Tacos N Subs is a local staple in Cartersville that everyone should try. It is true that a while ago they received very poor health scores but have since turned around the state of cleanliness in the kitchen and are still churning out some of the best Tex-Mex I've ever eaten. I always order half of a Mexicali and sometimes, if I'm feeling ambitious, half of a potato pancho. It doesn't get any better than that! They're not always open and have sometimes inconvenient hours but's delicious, fast, and full of local flavor! I have been going here since 1987. It recently changed owners and they have changed it up a bit. I still like going. In all the years I have ordered the same thing every time so I can only speak on the mild Mexican salad. Yummy. Something about their sauce mixed with the thousand island dressing. AWFUL on every level! This is my first review, I signed up just to put this on. The interior was cheap and tacky, it could be over looked if the food wasn't horrid. The super burrito was a gooey glob of caned chili and fake cheese. The grilled chicken salad had dry stale chicken on iceberg lettuce. THEN the sub was slimy lunch meat on a white bun covered in thousand island dressing. Oh it also took forever and a crazy lady that brings out your food was busy talking then got really mad when we walked up to get our food at the window. DON'T GO!!!!! Quirky little place. So fun and very clean. Customer service was top notch. Food is cooked to order and really good. If you are expecting a regular Mexican restaurant this isn't it. Many years ago when we first lived here, we frequented Tacos N Subs regularly. Then we moved away, and heard that it had gone downhill. When we moved back, we had to try it - and it's back to the way it was! Had lunch there today - awesome food! The prices have gone up a bit from before, but the flavors are still unique and fresh. We had two dine-in orders, and four takeouts. Dine-in, we ordered a Mexican salad and a chicken burrito. Both excellent and fresh. Take out, we ordered the large meat nachos and a potato pancho - everyone was thrilled with their food, and some new-to-the-area wanted to know if we'd gotten pizza because of the box sizes for the nachos.
