Every single time i drove by the place was always packed! So finally this weekend was my chance to come to this place and taste the food. As I enter the restaurant the vibe was calm and it felt like Mexico. Music was playing and the friendly waitress came to our table and took my order pretty fast. I looked at the menu and so many options to choose from but finally decided to order the Salpicon and a glass bottle cold Coke. The Salpicon is a serve-cold dish it comes with peeled shrimp, octopus, crab meat, and oysters in a special house sauce with onions, It kinda looks like ceviche. I grabbed a tostada and add it a spoon of the salpicon and when i took the bite, the millions of distinctive colorful flavors of the dish punched my tongue with so much power that i was mesmerized by it. Adorable place for some Sunday seafood! We hopped in Tyler's car and headed to the south side for some mariscos- and boy I found some delightful mariscos!! I always love traveling to smaller places that open early, have a few tables, and fill up quickly! The staff is Amazingly friendly- my Spanish is okay buy Tyler's is better-- so everything was conversed in Spanish and i answered in English and got just what I ordered: We started off with a lovely complimentary little 'hangover' cure of a cup with a shrimp in a spicy garlic broth. We didn't have a hangover but I couldn't resist this traditional treasure so I ate both of ours :) We shared a Tostada De Pulpo Y Camaron (octopus and shrimp) and it was refreshing and crisp. Lovely seafood atop a tostada...yum!! I ordered Camarones a la Diabla for my main meal: spicy and Spicy shrimp....so good, so cleansing, so fantastic! The Side salad of rich crab meat and fluffy rice were a great contrast! Delicious!! Tyler ordered Al Mojo De Ajo in garlic sauce - a fish with a garlic rub and it was beautiful to see and crispy and delicate to try! I did get a bone or two, but that's part of the experience:) A great Gem to dine at.....plus there are FULL portions of crispy tostadas and crackers as 'bread'!' Made the trek from the north side down to the south side to try some Mexican seafood based on my brothers recommendations. If it's one thing I love ( Aside from my wife and kids) it's sea food! Walking in, my brother and I were seated promptly and the server brought some delicious "Conzume" The conzume was a bit spicy and was adorned with some Shrimp. Nevertheless, it was delicious! I would go back just for that! My brother order the Camarones ala diabla or devil shrimp and I had the camarones Zarandeados. I found myself eating of his plate as I didn't like my plate that much. It's nothing against the restaurant but I just ordered the wrong plate. My shrimp were chard and drenched in a chipotle mayo butter sauce. I ordered them because the server recommended them and I hate trying new things at places I've never been before. Real cheap mariscos in price and when you go, you're not there for a fancy meal, you're there for the food. Husband loves their camarones ceviche since they don't add cilantro and they are very generous for the cheap price. I get the camarones a la diabla - extra spicy, and boy, they are spicy! Def. I like the ceviche, camarones a la diabla, and caldo de camaron. Pretty much all their shrimp dishes are delicious. The prices are not as expensive as other marisco restaurants. The camarones a la diabla are very flavorful & delicious. I am very much in love with the salsa the shrimp come with it's spicy & I enjoy the amount of heat they add it's really well balanced. I usually don't go for a dish like this at any seafood restaurant I stick to the caldos but I'm glad I went with my craving, they didn't disappoint! One of Chicago's best kept secrets. They do offer BYOB. I have been to this location a handful of times and have not had anything on the menu I didn't enjoy. Small family owned and the weekends may leave you standing until a seat is available. I would recommend their mixed ceviche & their breaded shrimp. The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars was because at times, you are seated next to another family due to lack of availability which takes away from our privacy. read more

I have been here a several times and only ever had the caldo de camaron. First few times were a 3.5, but this last time was really disappointing. The spicy broth and vegetables are great, but I could tell that this time the shrimp were not fresh, and they were over-cooked. And to top it off, they didn't remove the shrimp intestine. Stopped by this place yesterday and was interested because it always seems to be busy on weekends. I came to find out that it was likely more busy due to it being BYOB than food quality. Don't get me wrong, my camarones momias were delish but the same couldn't be said about my wife's dish. She ordered the garlic shrimp dish and some of the shrimps hadn't been prepped correctly. There was still vein in a couple of them. Come on people this is seafood 101. And the avocados they served with our dishes were still green. It's like eating an unripened banana. And who likes that. The tostadas bag table side was open when we sat down. Not a big deal to me but my wife equated it to having someone else's bread bowl unfinished. If I could give this place -2 stars I would! Saturday night my husband and I went to eat at this place. It was 9:34-9:37, we were excited to eat here. The place was almost full (good sign I suppose, but it was Saturday night, the place is small and weekend days are usually the busiest days for every restaurant). As soon as we walked in, a 12 ordinary looking kid approaches us asking us if we are gonna eat in there or we were gonna take the food home?... Because the place was gonna close at 10pm therefor we could only order carry out.. Only carry out O.O?!?!? (Wow!! Rude I thought but we were hungry and didn't want to make a big deal out of it) For what I know they welcome you with a small cup of spice soup and give you some crackers. Point is the cashier pretty much said that since the complimentary soup had been put away (before they even were closed) we were out of luck. So basically it was take what we want to offer you or just don't!... HOW ON EARTH ARE YOU GOING TO TREAT CUSTOMERS LIKE THAT??!? The two people that dealt with us were young, ignorant of business and 10-15 years away from being somewhat professional.. I'm guessing they were related to the owner, to be as bold as ballsy as they were.. We then went to el Muelle (the sea food restaurant almost next door) go there next time.. My favorite Mexican Seafood of all time! The empanadas are delicious, camarones a la diabla are amazing and their ceviche is the best! Avoid going on weekends because there is always a long wait for a table. The place is nothing fancy and it is byob. Their consume is a perfect start to any meal. I order the shrimp empanda plate - came with 3 Large empanadas (very generous with shrimp), rice, crab salad, lettuce, tomatoes, lime wedges, saltine crackers and homemade salsa. All for $10! It's not a fancy place, pretty casual (some would consider it a bit of a "dive"), but the the seafood is great. I'm looking forward to going back to try something different. read more
