Great food! Nothing fancy, but it reminded me of the pizza joints I grew up with in New England where they could do a number of dishes and everything came out fresh and tasty. I know a lot of people like this place and I hate leaving negative reviews but I have been here twice. Once the pizza was chewy and the other time it just wasn't good. The breadsticks are like jerky. We recently moved into the area but had not yet tried Mario's. We ordered two large submarine sandwiches (hoagies), we were going to share with friends over happy hour last Friday evening. We ordered a super Italian and a turkey and provolone. The sandwiches were prepared fresh and ready at pickup. The attendant was friendly and the prices were consistent, as with the competition, following our collective, post-pandemic economic struggles. The quality of the ingredients seemed satisfactory and generally good. The bread was a semi-sweet white bread Italian loaf, soft and uninteresting. I've come to know over my more than 50 years of relishing a great deli sandwich, the bread can be a 'make it or break it' kind of sandwich ingredient. It was an opportunity lost. We love their Hawaiian pizza and plain cheese pizza. Their salads are always fresh as well. We frequent this place about once a week.

Pizzas were really nice. Soft non greasy dough. Sometimes crisp but never burned. The toppings were nice. We like the BBQ chicken, Neapolitan and Mario's special. I was hoping I didn't make a mistake by ordering take out and having to wait a long time because there were a few other people waiting around but my meal was out and hot and ready to go in about 10-12 minutes. I was expecting not to like it but it was actually very good. Thin crust with a good crisp. Not an overpowering cauliflower taste like other cauliflower crusts. You can never go wrong with some Mario's for the night. We order pizza from Mario's every now and then for pick up and it has been delicious everytime. Clean, dining area and restrooms. Staff was warm, friendly, and helpful from the minute we walked in. Barely beat the after football crowd so initially we had the place to ourselves and received recommendations from the waitstaff. Went with the large thin crust pizza, and for our preference maybe it was a bit too thick and just a tad to much tomato sauce, however still very good. Anti pasta salad was great, we enjoy more olives and hot peppers. The waitress did bring us back a condiment of jalapeño! As we were only passing through, it may be an only time, however I bookmarked it in hopes of trying it again. P.S. we loved the town! read more

Driving in what seemed like the middle of nowhere while very hungry. We yelped near by places to eat and found Mario's. It was very tasty pizza. I like thin crust so we got two different slices. It was very good, tasty sauce and not greasy. The antipasto salad was delicious. My hubby had fettuccine Alfredo and loved it. My family and I ate at Mario's last night and 3 of 7 of us became very ill as a result. I reached out to the manager and asked him to please refund our money (minus the tip for server) instead of having to go through the process w credit card company, giving him the benefit of the doubt. During the conversation he began to interrogate me in a very passive aggressive manner. I told him what we all ate and there was no doubt that we all had a food borne illness. He told me that we all must have a virus and it was not a result of his food. "Ever heard of the flu or covid?" was his response. Realizing that he was not concerned and becoming irritated w me, I told him that I was going to go to credit card company and dispute the entire charge as well as contact the health department. He then became belligerent and told me to "come down here and I'll kick your f**king a**".... As a food service professional, I was blown away. This place is dirty, way over priced for poor quality food with poor quality ingredients and not to mention contracting food borne-illness. Beware. No hot water in dirty restrooms, Canned vegetables on frozen dough pizzas, garlic bread was hardly toasted burger buns, balsamic dressing was just vinegar, grainy cheese on baked items (not fully cooked) and who knows how long the house salads were refrigerated after prepped-3 of 5 were frozen...The manager was wildly aggressive and threatened violence for my concerns. In this business, customer service is paramount. Showing no sense of urgency for my call and defending the food over the customers satisfaction and safety should raise red flags to anyone considering eating at this place. The good reviews are surprising. Mario's in Berryville is a trap and you will be very disappointed and possibly become violently ill like me and my family. read more

I have to admit, I didn't want to eat here, but I'm sure glad we did. We just finished kayaking on the Shenandoah River just down the road and came to Berryville to look for some lunch. I wanted to try one of the handful of local bistro/diner/country kitchen type places, but I couldn't convince my two little boys to go for it. They wanted pizza. So we went to Mario's. Mario's has a nice atmosphere - brick outside, high ceilings with low voltage lighting inside. It's very clean and there are about four booths and a dozen tables. Wood tables. Metal chairs - minor annoyance the amount of noise those metal chairs make when you drag them across the floor. Styrofoam cups, hard plastic plates, and simple stainless flatware. Service was prompt and friendly. It was one of those local kind of places where the customers all sorta stared at the strangers (you) for a few minutes after you sat down, and then resumed their conversations. The two rednecks at the table next to us kept chatting with the waitress about her farm animals and who her mama was going out with. The pizza... Oh my gosh, the pizza. The pizza was wickedly delicious. My boys got a simple pepperoni pizza, but they wolfed it down. My youngest doesn't normally eat much, but he ate 3 slices. I had the gourmet white pizza - spinach, broccoli, diced tomatoes, ricotta, and mozzerella. It was SO good. It would almost be worth the drive back out to Berryville again just to have another one of those white pizzas. My only real complaint about Mario's (besides the noise the metal chairs make when you drag them across the floor) was their drink selection. They serve Pepsi products, which is an automatic down-check in my book because I'm a Diet Coke addict, but I don't normally hold that against a restaurant. The thing that really bugged me was their lack of alternatives that my boys would drink. No milk. No lemonade. No root beer. It was Pepsi or nothing. In spite of the drink selection, the pizza was well worth the visit, and the service and atmosphere of the place made for a very enjoyable lunch. read more

A couple friends and I went veggie picking in Berryville and were looking for some good eats afterwards. We strolled along Main Street and weren't too impressed by the diner-style restaurants, but then we smelled something glorious - pizza! We unanimously picked Mario's as our lunch spot. The pizza was alright (not as crisp as I thought it would be). However, I was impressed with the toppings they offered - I got cappicola and garlic on my small pizza, which really could have fed two people. And my friends split a large meat lovers pizza. I was also tickled pink when I saw they sold Peroni and Moretti beer. I don't often see Moretti beer in the US, so we all ordered it. I'm not saying it's great beer, but I love it with pizza and it brings back fond memories of Naples. We had no complaints about the food or service, but I wasn't blown away by it either. That said, I'm really snobby when it comes to pizza, so a 3-star rating from me in a small town like Berryville is pretty flippin' good.
