There is plenty of parking for cars, but it looked like the truck parking for the tractor trailers was a bit tight. This rest area is just south of the Gainesville, Florida exits. This is a large rest area just south of a Gainesville on I-75, with lots of parking for both cars and trucks. The location is very "southern" and pretty; big shady oak trees with lots of hanging Spanish moss. There are dozens of big covered picnic tables, not too close together, each one is like a little pavilion. Some are reserved for handicapped guests. The bathrooms were huge, with multiple entrances. (I assume this is so they can clean 1/2 at a time & still keep the other 1/2 open.). The facilities were clean, with plenty of soap and working air dryers. They also had baby changing tables and a family bathroom. There was a good assortment of vending machines, all pretty well stocked. There are paths that you can walk through; but unfortunately none of the paths took you into the Payne's Prairie Preserve. There was a chain link fence separating rest area from Mother Nature, but we walked up to the fence & could see multiple gators swimming in the water retention area beyond the fence and we saw one cute little alligator, about 3.5-4 feet long just chilling during the beautiful fall day. (He was separated by the fence, and there are many "No Trespassing" signs posted all around, along with warnings about venomous snakes.). I'm glad to know there are safe rest stops along I-75; and this is definitely a nice place to rest, eat, or walk around.

I also liked that they had a sign here letting everyone know that Tom Petty was born in Gainesville, Florida. Hey, maybe they should name the rest area in his honor. While in Tennessee, I saw a few rest areas named after country singers. All in all, a decent enough rest area.

Convenient and reliable smaller service area. Clean, tables to sit at, bathrooms, and a small market to purchase cold drinks and snacks. There is also a Dunkin, Wendy's, and Zaxbys in here. Shell gas station here to fill up the tank if needed. Gets the job done.

On Saturday, I went to the Visa website to check my balance remaining. I booked the room for $74.71 (total with taxes), however they billed Visa $125.65. I also discovered that on that Thursday night some at a Japanese Steak house in JBooneville Mississippi tried to use the Visa card to pay a bill for $83.22 which was declined. The remaining balance on the card was $69.35. On on that same Thursday night a man in Arizona was able to transfer $69.30 to his account leaving me with a whopping 5 cent balance. I truly believe that someone at the front desk provided the card number and pin number to these people for their use thereby defrauding me of my card balance. I

So we stayed the next town over in Ocala. The hotel was conveniently right off of the highway. The hotel room was pretty large and had a comfy bed. The hotel room is definitely a bit outdated but it did its job. They had free breakfast so definitely can't complain. They front desk was really nice. I actually left my phone in the room after check out and they were nice to let me up and get my phone. I don't know if I would stay here for a long time but for a quick trip it's great!

You know what? Keeping any rest area clean, tidy, stocked, mopped, manicured, safe, etc., is a…read morenon-stop thankless job. Not all people are (cough, cough)...tidy and/or clean, nor do they take care of their own messes, and this can make any rest stop employee's work more challenging than it should be. I seem to stop at this rest area a fair amount, and I'm always happy it is clean, has toilet paper, is well lit, I feel safe, etc., all of it is always good to go in my opinion. That is not the case with a lot of rest areas in my travels. But still, this is a thankless job and I if I ever see folks working here...I thank them for all they do. That said, I want to give a shout-out to them now...thank you for making this a pleasurable stop for all travelers. It is not easy having to tidy up after certain humans, and I, for one, am grateful we have folks who enjoy what they do in looking after us travelers and are there for us. If you are passing through, don't hesitate to stop. They not only have clean restrooms, but also ample parking, a picnic area, and a dog walking area. There are vending machines as well. I was visiting Florida since my sister now lives there, had to take my niece, Koutney to one and she's loves fudge and this place had everything. Made a roadtrip out of it, only two hours, about the same amount of hours from Laredo to San Antonio, wasn't too bad. Of course, Florida is much smaller than Texas roads, we got there around 11am and ohhhhh boooooiii, that smell of brisket just had to stand there to take a moment of silent. Plus this was also a redemption on my banana pudding, because when I went to the Buccees in Tennesse, the TSA agent threw it away and I was hella sad, that was $5 down the drain and it was frozen, not liquid. (I placed it in the freezer before getting on the plane). That redemption bite of fresh banana pudding had me in tears okay! I just love their pudding and you can say all you want about Magnolia Bakery banana Pudding, I prefer the ones from Buccee's. Can't go wrong with any brisket sandwich from here, I ended up buying a couple of it since I never leave empty handed and even though my sister doesn't it, her husband will. Don't forget to grab some onions and pickles at the brisket station for your sandwich, it cuts the fattiness of the brisket or kimchi will do too. OMG I need to do that next time. Sound fire! I belived the nearest Buccee's for me is in Arizona and that recently opened up, can't go there just yet but I will. Many were in the hot food section buying brisket sandwiches, bakery items. They even had shirts and pajamas, and anything you might possibly need.
