It's a beautiful night We're looking for something dumb to do Hey baby I think I wanna Marion - Bruno Venus Florida doesn't have my favourite rest areas, and they don't keep them clean and working very well, perhaps because a lot of tourists come through. They're little bit run down, and I don't like all the signs and how passive aggressive they are. A lot more than just the one or two you can see in this photo. Still, at least it's here.

Totally devastated. I just pulled into the rest area from the 640 mile stint and I was greeted by this old lady. After I made an admitted illegal U-turn into the second portion of the parking lot (EMPTY LOT...) she approached me right in my face during Covid season & wouldn't step away. She was asking me all these questions.... Interrogated as to why I'm parked there what I was doing there. She wouldn't give me my distance and I had to tell her to step the fuck back. It wasn't until I started recording that she finally gave me my space. But, she called the cops. Being a brown bearded man in Tennessee in the middle of the night, I called the cops. Cops came super polite but kicked me out. Why? Because she said she didn't feel safe with me sleeping there. So here I am at 12:30 AM continuing all the way to Michigan. Mood for sleep is gone, I will never forget this totally disgusting prejudice experience in the state of Tennessee. To the old hag that did this, How dare you infringe on my freedom, and for and cost? NOTHING. I did NOTHING to you. You should be fucking ashamed of yourself. Great show of white privilege. Great show of considering the safety of a fatigued person traveling through your state. You are pathetic.

Payne's Prairie Reserve Rest Area is on the northbound side of Interstate 75. It is a typical…read moreFlorida rest area with rest rooms, a place to walk your dog, a few pavilions and a few holders for the various hotel and real estate guides. There is plenty of parking for cars, but it looked like the truck parking for the tractor trailers was a bit tight. This rest area is just south of the Gainesville, Florida exits. All in all, I would definitely recommend this rest area. It was clean and a good place to stretch your legs.

This is a large rest area just south of a Gainesville on I-75, with lots of parking for both cars and trucks. The location is very "southern" and pretty; big shady oak trees with lots of hanging Spanish moss. There are dozens of big covered picnic tables, not too close together, each one is like a little pavilion. Some are reserved for handicapped guests. The bathrooms were huge, with multiple entrances. (I assume this is so they can clean 1/2 at a time & still keep the other 1/2 open.). The facilities were clean, with plenty of soap and working air dryers. They also had baby changing tables and a family bathroom. There was a good assortment of vending machines, all pretty well stocked. There are paths that you can walk through; but unfortunately none of the paths took you into the Payne's Prairie Preserve. There was a chain link fence separating rest area from Mother Nature, but we walked up to the fence & could see multiple gators swimming in the water retention area beyond the fence and we saw one cute little alligator, about 3.5-4 feet long just chilling during the beautiful fall day. (He was separated by the fence, and there are many "No Trespassing" signs posted all around, along with warnings about venomous snakes.). I'm glad to know there are safe rest stops along I-75; and this is definitely a nice place to rest, eat, or walk around.

On Saturday, I went to the Visa website to check my balance remaining. I booked the room for $74.71 (total with taxes), however they billed Visa $125.65. I also discovered that on that Thursday night some at a Japanese Steak house in JBooneville Mississippi tried to use the Visa card to pay a bill for $83.22 which was declined. The remaining balance on the card was $69.35. On on that same Thursday night a man in Arizona was able to transfer $69.30 to his account leaving me with a whopping 5 cent balance. I truly believe that someone at the front desk provided the card number and pin number to these people for their use thereby defrauding me of my card balance. I

So we stayed the next town over in Ocala. The hotel was conveniently right off of the highway. The hotel room was pretty large and had a comfy bed. The hotel room is definitely a bit outdated but it did its job. They had free breakfast so definitely can't complain. They front desk was really nice. I actually left my phone in the room after check out and they were nice to let me up and get my phone. I don't know if I would stay here for a long time but for a quick trip it's great!

The parking lot alone is wild, with what feels like endless gas pumps. Walking inside was a whole experience because I genuinely didn't know where to start. It's like HomeGoods and Wawa had a giant, chaotic, beautiful baby. I made my way through section by section, and there's a little bit of everything. I grabbed their BBQ brisket sandwich and Beaver Chips first--absolutely worth it. The brisket sandwich was ridiculously good, and they're pumping those things out fresh every few minutes. Their hot food menu isn't huge, but honestly, that works in their favor--simple, focused, and done well. I also tried the triple meat sandwich with brisket, turkey, and sausage. It costs a little more, but it's loaded, super filling, and definitely worth it if you're hungry. One of the coolest parts? The jerky section, where you can sample different options before buying. Somehow I even left with beard oil... because Buc-ee's is apparently the kind of place where that makes total sense. Loved Buc-ee's. It's more than a gas station--it's basically a road trip experience.

If you answer a resounding "Yes" to all of the above, especially coffee, then Buc-ee's is your one stop shop of choice. My partner (who's been to a Buc-cee's in Texas)and I ventured to this location after disembarking our cruise ship in Port Canaveral; it was about a 1 hour drive North. Interestingly enough, we discovered this location via YouTube vlogger/channel, "wrightdownmainstreet". She regularly posts vlogs about Disney World, and while looking thru her videos we found a posted vlog about this location. As expected, this location is enormous. Really, it is. I think this is probably the largest gas station I have ever been to. I thought it was pretty awesome they basically had all the needs a driver would want, aside from gas: coffee, drinks, snacks, sweets, warm food, souvenirs, clothes, etc. The snacks and products are their own, and I was impressed with the wide variety of snacks/chips/candies, etc. We took our time perusing the store, as we couldn't check into our Disney World Hotel (Old Key West, see my review!) until later in the afternoon. I estimate we spent over an hour browsing and just carefully looking throughout the store.....especially the snack section and hot food (grab and go section). In the end, we got snacks for the road and room, soda, water, coffee, and brisket wraps. The wrap was good, though I would want definitely want to try other food items on a future visit to any Buc-ee's on the mainland. BOTTOM LINE A stop worth checking out.....especially if you need gas and snacks and drinks for the road.
