I used Guild Morgage Company for a residential loan and had a terrible experience, and would not use them for myself or recommend them. Mario Sandoval, a branch manager/loan officer, was not familiar with California laws regarding appraiser duties and California law regarding areas such as carbon monoxide detector compliance, among other things. Mario insisted on having carbon monoxide detectors installed in a property with no gas lines and no fireplaces. California law states that such properties are exempt from such detectors, if there is not an attached garage. Yet Mario held up the closing of my property because he doesn't understand the laws or the responsibilities of the appraiser, who admitted that she did not understand the laws either. In essence, Mario acted to give legal advice, which he is not qualified/allowed to do, and he contradicted California law. Mario was arrogant and rude in his responses, even when given Fire Marshall and California Law links to this information. I can understand a loan broker/branch manager not being up to speed on every law, but he took no action to learn the law and resolve the issue professionally. What's worse, when I emailed and called Guild Mortgage's corporate office in San Diego to ask them to intervene and educate Mario Sandoval on the laws and Realtor regulations/forms, Lisa Klika, Chief Compliance Officer at the corporate office in San Diego, didn't return my call or email. read more
