I would specifically NEVER TAKE CHILDREN TO THIS RESTAURANT. See the WARNINGS about bringing children here, below.
Marino's Buffet is on the way to going out of business.
I can't remember ever seeing a restaurant with so many things done horribly wrong.
I really wanted this buffet to be our new "go-to" place near M-127 on the way up to our cottage ... but instead it was one of the worst restaurants I've seen in many years.
Total lack of management, horrible food quality, complete lack of sanitation, and cutting of corners in every possible way.
When you come in for the buffet, they hand you two plates from behind the front counter (assumedly one for salad and one for pizza). There are no further clean plates available. This means that you have to re-use these plates if you return to the buffet. This is expressly against health department regulations which state you have to use a new plate for each trip to get more food.
They are trying to not have to pay employees to do dishes, and they are trying to limit the amount of food you eat. Just put the damn plates out.
The plates and silverware were so dirty I had to re-wash all of it myself. They have *cut* some combination of soap ... dish machine sanitizer ... or water temperature in the dishwasher. Cutting costs.
The salad bar was horrible. Very *few* items ... cutting out things like blue cheese dressing and many other very standard salad bar items.
We were there for 1 hour, and in that time there were 7 tables which remained completely un-bussed and strewn with filth and dirty dishes ... *for our entire visit*.
Not a single dirty dish was removed from the dining room.
There were no table settings. No salt & pepper, no toppings (parmesan cheese and/or pepper flakes - RPF), no napkins, no nothing.
We ordered the pizza buffet. They had ONE, SINGLE, old, hard cold pizza on the buffet. When I inquired what was going on with the pizza, I was told more would be made. This took so long however that we ended up filling up on salad and the cold pizza before more was put out. We were totally ripped off.
When the new pizza did arrive on the buffet, it was one single pizza which the cook had simply taken various toppings and jumbled them all together (including pineapple). By the time we left, a couple more pizzas that came out were the same!
NO specific combinations whatsoever.
This was not a "supreme" style pizza ... which has multiple toppings distributed on *all* the pieces. Made so poorly I wondered if the cook was making an angry statement.
They claimed that "garlic bread" was part of the buffet, but when it finally came out near the end of our stay, it was flat, greasy and hard as a rock and with no hint of garlic.
It would have been just as easy for them to take the dough and make it into breadstick shapes. Instead they took a pizza crust, put some prep (grease) on it, and threw it in the oven. Garbage.
The sauce on the pizza I recognized immediately as having taken canned tomato paste, cut it with water, and added sugar. It was horribly sweet. Absolutely awful. AGAIN, cost cutting.
WARNING: an issue with bringing CHILDREN to this restaurant.
The restrooms are back in the game area in a dark side-hall and completely out of view of parents unless you stand there in that hallway and monitor.
In the men's room there are only two toilet stalls and one children's urinal. NOTABLY, anyone using the urinal has their private parts completely exposed and on full display because of the two large mirrors at the sink directly reflecting the front of one's body.
That means, if you or your children are waiting to use one of the toilets etc (which is likely because the restaurant's seating capacity appears to far exceed the restroom facilities allowances), it is a total PEEP SHOW of adult or children's privates.
(Not sure how they got away with the seating vs restroom capacity issue.)
Folks, anyone can follow your children into the restroom from the game area and you'd never know unless you stood there and kept watch.
I would NEVER bring children to this place.
Positives?
The price is quite cheap ... and includes beverage.
They have a selection of ice cream up by the cash register at additional cost.
The location is a *great* location. Near the freeway, easy to get to, nice neighborhood (they should be doing *gangbusters* business here). The parking lot is fairly easily accessible. That's it.
With as bad as every single thing was in the front of the house at this restaurant, I would bet good money that they are in TOTAL VIOLATION of health code in the kitchen.
This kind of total lack of Controls, SOP's and lack of management is FOOD POISONING waiting to happen, folks.
I strongly recommend people who have been ripped off and suffered through a visit to this restaurant call the Health Department and request an inspection be done.
To the owners: ... *close* this restaurant and STOP RIPPING PEOPLE OFF .
CLOSE IT! read more
