I am due for a routine mammogram, which my insurance covers. However, I was told that if I didn't schedule the ultrasound with them (which costs $1500 out of pocket), they would refuse to perform the mammogram. I already had the ultrasound scheduled elsewhere, but they still refused to provide the mammogram. This hospital does not seem to prioritize patient care, and it feels like they are more focused on overcharging locals rather than properly serving the community. I urge others to be cautious when dealing with this facility, and I believe it should be reevaluated for its practices. read more

Had to visit the emergency room at Mariners hospital on 1/26/24 evening. After a fall and laceration above the right eye. I want to thank the admitting clerk for being so patient with me, had trouble seeing and she walked me through everything. Sorry I didnt remember your name, but you have a great attitude and put me at ease, same with the check out after I was done. Nurse kimatha was very pleasant and attentive, walked me through everything that was being done. Dr. Daniel Farrel was awesome, very calm explained everything he was doing. Same with Cat scan tech, told me everything that was being done. The whole staff have great attitudes which calms you down right away. On Oct 23 at 4pm i went to Mariners Hospital because of severe back pain. This has been ongoing issue with me for 30 years plus i have a morphine pain pump and a spinal cord stimulator and i have been fused in 2 different places. When i got checked in they were nice and told them all about issues and they knew because i have been there many times before. After wait 2 mins the doctor sent in a physician assistant to tell me they would not give me any pain meds. I told them from the start i had Percocet at home and the pain pump is running 24/7 but it wasn't enough. At that point i had been awake for 5 days. Why would there be a hospital that wouldnt treat a chronic pain management person. Ive been there at least 3-4 times before spent keas than a hour and felt great when i left. This doctor needs to be fired. There is no use in having a hospital if uou wont treat the people that go. I am not nor ever had a drug problem just a really bad back and this doctor wouldnt even take the time out to talk to me. Where do i go? What do i do? Do i buy drugs on street because the retarded doctor they have wants to heal people holistically? Well maybe if i pray the pain with go or drink some tea or maybe this doctor needs to look at the patient and make a decision after he looks and assesses the patient. I went in on a Wednesday around 4pm. There was no one in the waiting room. I filled out my info, and sat for about 1.5 minutes before someone came & called my name. The people there worked fast, and efficient. I was never uncomfortable, and they explained anything that I asked for them to explain. I had to go in to the ER. Most of the staff was friendly. One was pretty cold and argued with me when I told her the dose I was on, yet I was looking at the bottle and investigate everything the doc puts me on. The doctors and other staff were nice. One doctor said it was an infection and the other said it was inflammation so they treated both. They are limited in what they can treat here. Staying in Islamorada for family holiday. My baby came down with a high fever while suddenly and we decided to visit Mariners. Wait time was less than five minutes. Staff was friendly and kind, empathetic and most importantly, competent and trustworthy. Would highly recommend and will plan to return if ever necessary in the future. read more

OK, its a "Rural" hospital, which means they charge more. If you are going for something expensive, you might want to check out the mainland. I did the sleep test, and I wouldn't recommend this place. Set-up was not good and the final report had all the hallmarks of being boilerplate. No interface with the "author" of the report. They send it out to the Dr. that ordered it to talk with you. Also this was the only visit that did not result in a mailed survey, which I looked forward to, with baited breath. They Took amazing care of me over the three day stay which initiated with an ER visit. I was very impressed with the facility, the staff was amazing and all of the services were given efficiently and effectively. I'm very impressed with the small rural hospital serving this community extremely well. My doctor, Dr Miguel Diaz is probably the best physician I've had in my life in terms of caring , great bedside manner, knowledge and thoroughness. We were visiting on vacation and I went in after nearly 3 weeks of not being able to shake a cough. As a nurse practitioner myself I never chose to go to the ER for urgent care , but on the Keys there is no other option and this hospital was amazingly efficient. I was in and out within 30 minutes, prescription in hand that I walked into CVS. I found the nurse and doctor be very thorough and proficient and was very impressed with my overall visit. Excellent urgent care visit - I'd highly recommend - in fact other hospital ERs should consider studying their methods. I figured I'd be there for hours but it seems they knew I was a straight forward patient and instead of waiting to see me (as would be typical elsewhere as I was non-urgent) they treated and discharged me quickly, freeing space in the ED. On Saturday my husband had a sharp pain in his left arm -he was nervous so we went to Mariners Emergency room. From the front desk to the doctors we felt the care and love they gave us. They performed the right test and lucky it was not a heart attack. The diagnosis was Something that my husband had before . Dr. Rey and Dr. Rengito, Nurse Tara, Nurse Keith, Front dedo Tara, and all the techs that did the test were exceptional. We are weekenders and live in Miami, so having the professionals talk both English and Spanish was a blessing. Thank you all!! read more

My dad had been complaining about his arm hurting after a fall on a Friday afternoon. On sunday on our way to the Keys he couldn't take the pain anymore, so we stopped at Mariner's Hospital, which is owned by Baptist Health Systems to get it checked out. We were able to give our information to the receptionist right away, and since my dad had visited Baptist Hospiotal in Miami they already had all of his information on file. After we were seated the recptionist brought two ice-packs for my dad, and we were called in to see the nurse after about 30 minutes (there were five people ahead of us). After that my dad had his x-rays and saw the doctor. We were through in about two hours...the fastest visit to an ER I have ever experienced! read more

While on vacation I experienced shortness of breath and discomfort in my chest. With a long history of heart disease in my family, I decided to err on the side of caution and get checked out. The good is that they saw me immediately and were pleasant and efficient. The bad was that as I lay in the bed, we were required to pay the balance on our insurance deductible which was over $900!!! Reluctantly we plunked down our credit card... THEN I GOT THE BILL!!! For my 1 hour visit I was billed $6,474!!!!!!! I had a chest x-ray and an EKG. This was a 1 hour urgent care visit!!!!! My ER visit today was horrible. Something has changed. Was there a couple months ago and it was great. The help including the Dr just had no regard for the patent. Only came in for a SHORT MINUTE. This amazing team helped save my husband's life...My husband had a stroke while out fishing with his guide. His guide worked fast, called the EMT's while getting him to shore. The EMT's took him to Mariners Hospital. Mariners took excellent care of him, worked extremely fast, and administered the treatment to stabilize him. Afterward and within minutes, he was airlifted to their sister hospital in Miami, Baptist Hospital. I was told repeatedly by Miami Baptist, that had it not been for the proper and excellent treatment initially administered by Mariners Hospital he would not have lived. The staff at this hospital was very caring, concerned and worked diligently to save him. I can not thank this team enough for what they did for my husband and our family. Horrible hospital. The social workers at this hospital are incapable of performing their job duties, therefore, affecting the patients recovery. I have had a horrible experience trying to plan care for my father. The hospital is even unable to provide their own corporate contact number. I have to wonder if anyone works if they are all off to the beach. Drive the extra hour to Miami if you want your family member to receive adequate care. I went to the ER with a sore (strep?) throat. The staff were all kind, informative and efficient. The facility is spotlessly clean. I had no wait time and got a prescription for antibiotics. Lovely place, I can't say enough good about it. read more

Staff were great, however, received stitches and were told to come back in two days for a quick follow up check, saying we should just tell the person at the front desk that we were there for a follow up and wouldn't have to check in or wait. When we arrived for the follow up visit, we were told we had to check in, re-register, then they we waited for the doctor to spend 5 seconds to look at the wound and say, "ok", then they charged us another $100 copay and billed our insurance for another full emergency room visit. Sure seemed like a "bait and switch" attempt to bill both the patient and the insurance company for an extra visit that was not even necessary. The doctor, during the original visit, old us what to look for relative to infection. We knew it was healing appropriately. Had we known they would charge us again, we never would've returned. They did not set expectations well and we are disputing the second visit charge. read more

I had an appointment at 10 am they asked me to be there earlier to make payment and registration. I got there at 9.30 am for a mammogram and ultrasound. Got out of there 5 hrs later 2.30pm. The staff were very nice but there was some confusion somewhere for taking so long. I was told it will be about an hour. They said the same thing for the last one and it took 2-2.5hrs. I was visiting from Ohio and had to have( post surgery ) stitches and an abdominal drain removed. I couldn't find a doctor to do it, so my daughter took me to the Emergency Department at Mariner's as I had been there previously. Everyone from the receptionest to the doctor and nurses were excellent. I would recommend this emergency department to anyone who needs one while in the Keys. read more
