I've been proud to call MP my home track for several years now. Nice practice range (irons only), putting green, and chipping area. I've always thought their greens are some of the best among courses within NYC. However, I was disappointed with a few things more than usual this time around: the rough looks like they forgot to seed and water it this season, you're more likely to hit off concrete dirt than any patch of grass; the starter consistently has a negative vibe and seems to have an easy trigger to bark at people for any small human error; and lastly, course management of the groups playing out there was the worst I've seen - by the back 9, we were consistently bunching with the two groups ahead of us on the next tee box AND the immediate group in front of us went from a 4some to a 5some on the back 9 (threw on an extra random?). I rarely ever call the club house to complain, but I had to this time around and asked them to send a ranger out to fix the problem. No ranger ever came. Quite disappointing. I'll be back but someone in management needs to see this. Hope you can take this feedback and make MP better. read more

Let start this was Pace of play matters , on a private course , on a public course , on any course. Period end of conversation, it doesn't matter that your a municipal course it matters. The idea of having starters and rangers is to maintain the pace of play. Standing on the 7 th t box 2 hours and 5 minutes into a round is totally unacceptable. Having to endure not play but endure multiple rounds over 5.5 hours is enough reason to not play your course And write a scathing review of your operation. You simple can't run a course that Routinely has its driving range closed during the morning and afternoon hours Can't maintain pace of play Has several starters that are both foolish and rude Hey guys what difference does it make where guys stand on the 1st t and by the shack if it all goes to hell on the 2nd Get over yourselves azz hats And can't check players in more than a few minutes prior to t time If I want to check in 45 minutes or more prior and then go practice prior to my round What the frig is the difference to check me the frig in Other than that most of the guys are pretty decent Jeff's good at the desk Ted and Bruno try to make things move along But they truly are paddling up stream The course is kept well and the greens are maintained Too fast n too sloped for the caliber of play they get They just slow things down even more But they are well kept Here's a few tips Slow the greens down Pull out some of the slope Then insist that your rangers maintain pace of play Insist that your staff checkers people in early And if your late your out out out Stop jamming 3 or 4 groups out on 1 it's a par 5 Standing at the shack and seeing guys on the green 2 groups in the fairway and a group on the t is very very disheartening and it happens often Or did because while I may come in for a round when I'm stuck 3 /4 days a week is no more Hell once a month or once a year might not even happen There are other better run courses to play read more

The course is in horrid shape. The front 9 is some of the worst conditioned fairways I've ever seen. Also it's not cheap to play here. I won't be coming back, bethpage will be my new course as it is exponentially better and just a little bit further away read more

i just had the chance to golf here for the first time today. I arrived at about 10am on a Tuesday without a reservation/tee time and the wait was about an hour before I could get on. I'm not sure if the entire course was as busy as where I was but it took 5 hours to do 18 holes with a cart. Every hole had four groups at it (two groups playing and two waiting to play). 18 walking was about $40 or about $60 with a cart. The front nine is surrounded on one side by the Belt Parkway and water on the other. There were some nice views of the city far off on the distance but that was definitely overshadowed by a major mosquito problem. Over the course of several holes in the front nine I got at least half a dozen bites. So if you're coming here bring bug spray. The course is very average in terms of design and upkeep. Several of the sand traps had a good amount of glass in them, one had a puddle, and none were all that soft. The grass throughout was in great shape though, especially the greens which were both very well taken care of, not overly slow/fast, and challenging. The course is fairly wide open with minimal trees between the holes and is a very flat course. There are a couple holes that do a slight curve but no real dog legs otherwise. Overall I found it to be a pretty boring course to play and combined with the mosquito problem, the backed up play that I experienced, and that they don't have any beverage/food carts going around the course, I really don't think I'll be back to this one. On the other side the clubhouse was great, the pro shop was large and well stocked and the lady working there was very nice, the bar was huge and beer prices started at a very reasonable $4, and they had a huge outdoor patio with plenty of seating. They also had two putting greens, and a small driving range for practicing with your irons (it wasn't long enough for woods or long irons). The do have a full restaurant at the bar as well. All these extras were the best I've experienced in any other NYC course but it just didn't make up for the fact that the course itself was just ok. read more

The course was in good condition but the road leading into it was god awful. If you're going to be pretentious and act like a private country club, you could at the very least, fix the road. The starter was condescending. My friends and I were driving to the first hole when we encountered a group ahead of us teeing off. Just as we were going to park to wait our turn, the starter felt it was unnecessary to simply say, "please wait here and not at the first tee." Instead, he decided it was better to talk down to us and comment on how bad we were before we even teed off. Well, sir, I hope you talk to your children that way. They're bound to become as successful as you. Also, scumbags patronize this course. I caught two people hitting my ball while they were going the opposite direction. I confronted both of them. One of them confessed to it and offered a meek apology, while the other didn't let his dignity get in the way of looking like a complete fool. Awesome course to crush beers with some bros. A buddy and I went last weekend and drank more modelo especial cans than there were holes. We started with a bucket of balls and got some unsolicited tips from a golf pro that looked like Happy Gilmore's caddy Chubbs, except he had a hand. Opened with, "Are you done learning?". Nice guy. The course is wide open, which is great bc my drives are wild as hell. A couple times I had to hit my approach shot from the fairway of another hole. The conditions were spotty because of rain the night before... puddles in the fairways and whatnot. But it didn't really matter because the beer prevented me from hitting the ball by the back-nine. Also, I didn't realize my skin was burning off from the sun and mosquitoes the size of hummingbirds were sucking liters of blood from my ankles, legs, and arms. I looked like a lobster with chicken pox the next day. Keep an eye out for the a-hole at the pro shop. He was all bent out of shape about "yelpers" who don't take golf seriously. What a dick. Positives: - shotgunning beers is encouraged - minimal walking, drive carts right onto the greens - punctual tee time is optional - piss anywhere - no need to replace divots - the course is already f'd - solid base tan before speed dating event - perfect venue for weddings (crashing in particular) Negatives: - a-hole at pro shop - jurassic-era mosquitoes read more

Layout, course conditions, and management always seems up to par or exceeds it. Played this course many many times and always find it challenging due to change of weather and greens. Only problem I ever had was the jerkoff starter who thinks he knows everything about the game. Actually states giving the asshole speech to the guys teeing off before us. These guys didn't say one word and just ignored him and hit their tee shots. As for my group he asks "why do all Asians and blacks always tee off from the back tees"? He's actually telling us most people can't play from the back despite us standing on the middle tee box. When I reply where do you see us standing he makes believe he doesn't hear. On the 7th hole I miss the green on my approach shot to the right by about 20 ft. As I'm walking toward my ball, he comes out of nowhere in a golf cart, parks the cart in front of my ball, gets out and goes off on the people paired with us about them driving their cart near the green. He acknowledged parking the cart in front of my ball but doesn't really give a shit and gives me the "please" speech after not saying one word. I understand if your doing your job and going off on people due to stupid things but your ass has to realize some people actually know what they're doing and don't need the speech. If you do see something worth mentioning, not everyone has a hand in it. With all that, I realize he is playing two groups behind me so he's off the clock. At the moment I thought it was a sad incident but it wasn't nearly as sad as his own self importance. read more

5 stars, for a municipal golf course? Hear me out. Saturday at 8pm, just got back from my first visit there. A lot to say. -As a single, Bill at the pro shop was really helpful in squeezing me in on a busy Saturday when I called at 9am. -Coming from Times Square, you MUST budget 90 minutes by public transportation to get to the course. Take the 2 train to its end, and then take a bus (15-20 minutes, depending on how long you have to wait for the bus, traffic, etc.). From the end of the 2 train, a livery taxi will cost $10 and perhaps save 10 minutes in arriving to the course. Fortunately, the Q35 bus stops right in front of the course (in both directions, FWIW). -You get there, and they have a driving range, which is nice, many big city muni courses didn't. Artificial turf, but, meh, better than nothing. Full-sized putting green, a chipping area, and a 'trackman' area for lessons. Also, a full-sized clubhouse, with a well-stocked pro-shop, and a full-size bar-restaurant. -The tee boxes, fairways, and greens are all in rather good condition. Not once did I find any that I felt the need to complain about. This course has come under new ownership in recent years, and they're really putting a lot of effort into making it a GREAT course. -On a Saturday the walking rate for a resident is $39. That's a phenomenal price to play such a good course, let alone a course in New York City, where everything is more expensive. The resident rate with a golf cart is $59. I was feeling cheap, but glad that I walked. One of the easiest courses that I've ever walked. -The $6 turkey sandwich was tasty and filing. **** Let's do some criticisms of the course: -Extremely time-consuming to get to by public transportation from Manhattan. They've "thought about" running a shuttle from Manhattan, but "thought about" didn't help me today. Having said that, maybe they're busy enough and don't need to feather the additional cost/effort of a shuttle. -They charged me $5 for a can of Arnold Palmer that had a '99cent' mark on the can's graphics. Sweet bro. -A lot of the sand in the bunkers didn't seem that 'fluffy'. A lot of the bunkers seemed pretty bare. Would be nice if they invested more money in better quality sand. -I played with 3 randoms, who were all friends. My 3 partners were INSANELY slow (5.5 hour round), and there were no marshalls trying to do anything about it. I felt really bad for the foursome behind ours. -Sprinkler heads with precise yardage markings would be nice. All they had were the 200, 150, 100. -There should be plaques on all par-3 teeboxes showing 'distance to center of the green' from various spots. There weren't. Total weak sauce. Fortunately we had a range finder. ***** Back to the course itself. Cool visuals of Manhattan skyline at times. It's quite wide open and quite flat, except for most of the greens, which were elevated (elevated greens are great, adds a nice level of challenge). The greens were huge, and as I said earlier, in really good condition, and quite fast. Given that you're near the Atlantic Ocean, this course can get VERY windy, 2-3 club wind at times. Was cool to see seagulls on the course. I could definitely see a criticism of this course being: 'it's boring, it's all flat and wide-open'. That statement is true, but mainly of the finest links courses in the British Isles are flat and wide-open. Take it or leave it. I like variety. Not all courses need to bee tree lined. Also, the wide open nature makes this course absolutely more 'playable' for the average golfer. The overwhelming majority of golfers don't want to spend most of their round looking for balls. They still want a 'clear shot at the green' even after a less-than-stellar drive, etc. The green complexes are nearly uniformly challenging, as well as the wind. Personally, until I start putting up ridiculous scores here, I feel no need to call it 'easy'. There's fescue between many of the fairways, if you're too far off. It'd be cool if they put in pot bunkers in the fairways. They're currently constructing more mounds between fairways, a nice links touch. Such a tough front-left pin placement today (see my pic). -Love the well-elevated green on 11. -The blind-tee shot on 16 is brilliant hole design. -18 is a par 5. Tough fescue/bunker on left off the tee, and OB right. Easy par5 if hit it straight. If this were double the price, or in an area with tons of great courses, I wouldn't give it five stars. Price definitely affects my ratings, as does 'comparable options in the area'. There are so few golf courses in a city of 8 million people, so my ratings standards are more flexible. So, why 5 stars? Aside from maybe Trump's new spot this is definitely NYCs best course. Better than Pelham IMO. The price is good value for the quality. To be clear - this course is in much better shape than the other NYC courses. Tee boxes, fairways, rough all well maintained. Greens are huge and can be pretty tough. Tee to green it's not too difficult. Rough isn't much of an issue. Glad I found this place so I don't always have to drive 40 minutes to reach a decent course. Warning - the starter here is insane. Every time I have played he has yelled at me for something. The self importance is strong with this one. read more

Played a round with fellow Yelper and pro golfer Glenn V yesterday in rough and Scottish conditions here. Being half a Scot from the St Andrews area, I prefer a brisker climate to play in and can generally handle the wind. Well, yesterday it was all that and then some. I have played the course many times, and the good thing is that it is a wide open track. I played with one Pro V the whole day and I'm no pro. Greens were in decent shape , but the fairways were a little beat up. It is very early for NYC golf, so that is to be expected and was not a problem. The wind, however, made for an interesting round. Gusts over 40mph were common right off the water, so hitting your ball low and clubbing up at least 2 clubs were key. I enjoyed my day and round in the harsh conditions. I try to score in the high eighties and low nineties, and I was basically right there( a few Mulligans helped, early in the season). Marine Park is one of the longer courses and straighter ones you will find in NYC, so you big hitters out there can take out the driver. Shorter hitters like me would be best sticking with your 3 wood off the tee and second shot then chip and putt(s). Check it out if you can. Easy to get to in Bklyn and rates are good for a muni. read more

Extremely well groomed for a public course in NYC. Not especially challenging but it was LONG! Reasonably priced for location. Packed as crap - we went on a Saturday afternoon (1ish) on an overcast day with a 70% chance of rain hoping it would scare off most people. At the 7th hole we had already been playing for 3 1/2 hours...on track for a monster 8 hour game. The back 9 cleared up and played faster, but it still ended up taking about 6 1/2 hours to play through. Range is irons-only, as others have said. read more

Next year this will be a five star golf course... I tee'd off two hours and ten minutes after leaving the house, and I walked right on. I live in Harlem, and Marine Park is as far away in BK as possible, two trains and a bus.... And well worth the trip, I will play there at least one more time this year. Tee Boxes: ~Freshly aerated, dark green short grass. ~I still don't know why I can't find a perfectly flat tee box in NYC. ~Narrow, some just ten feet wide, but nice. Fairways: ~Like walking on thick padded carpet. You can take a perfect divot. ~Some puddles, it rained this morning, and didn't drain well, saw so many of my drives splash. Rough: ~Now too bad. Even the really thick stuff , the ball can be easily muscled out of. Bunkers: ~A thick, dirty, rocky sand. But I hear they're being replaced with real sand soon. And I found one of those new bunkers that they put just past the green on 18, and the dirty stuff is much easier to hit out of, so look out next year... Greens: ~AWESOME!!! ~It's like putting on a pool table. ~So many unfair pin positions. ~Forget everything you know about putting on public courses, and just putt like you see them do on Golf Channel. Overall: ~Full water coolers everywhere. ~Benches at alot of the tees. ~Ball cleaner at every hole. ~NICE practice facility, I'd come here just to pitch and putt. It's free. ~Nice outdoor, full service grill at the turn. ~They are under constant construction, but that does not interrupt play. The front nine is well underway of looking like a great links course, and the back nine currently shows how things were. ~With todays 20+ mph wind, I was in Ireland or Scotland for a day on this links course, what a great day. Shot my worst round of the year, but had a great time. Next time I'll know what I'm up against... ~$4.75 pull cart rental sure beats a $25 cart. ~Today stats, according to my GPS... Todays round was 5.00 hours, walked 4.69 miles, took 14,635 steps, and burned 411 calories. read more

Tee boxes and greens were in great condition, fairways and bunkers were fair at best. Nearly every hole is a straight-away. Good for beginners as there aren't many obstacles, but might be a downer for those looking for a challenge. The greens were a little more difficult and are pretty much all raised greens. As someone stated before, the course isn't maintained very well but is more of a relaxed course play. I guess with the high level of beginner players around there were many Marshalls buzzing around making sure that people are playing through properly read more

Pretty decent place, I must admit. Though I don't care much for the driving range being limited to irons; how can it be a driving range if i cant use my driver? C'mon now. It's not that crowded of a course, but when I played, the entire course was dried out (a few days after a storm too, which was surprising). When I asked how often they watered the course, the attendant told me "Not enough. Do you know how much it costs???" The course itself isn't that hard. I played this course last week - and it's truly the hardest (as in the ground is hard) course I've ever played. I was hoping maybe it's bc it's early in the season but from the other reviews - I guess this is how it is. I'll definitely play again bc it's a great value for the price - and the pro-shop and driving range area are really well maintained. The folks there are very nice and attentive. Met some nice folks during my round as well. Also the greens and tee boxes had just been aerated with half inch plugs .... so it I can't judge it too harshly. read more

This course is perfectly fine for people, like myself, who rarely play golf and just want to spend an afternoon outdoors on a nice late summer day. The course is not too challenging and wide open meaning you won't have to fish your ball out of the water on every hole. We were paired up with a couple decent golfers but they didn't seem to mind our amateur status. Not too many other options near a subway line that are affordable and laid back atmosphere of this course. read more

It really disappoints me to write this review. I have visited Marine park golf course a few times and have always enjoyed myself while there. This year I decided to take some lessons from their top lesson guy Richard. I was able to contact Richard and set up a time for our first lesson which was today. Unfortunately after driving an hour to the first lesson I arrive at Marine Park only to find out that Richard has decided not to come to the lesson. Richard did not call or text to let me know that I shouldn't waste an hour traveling to the golf course. When I called Richard to inquire about what was going on, instead of the pleasant person that I had spoken to previously on the phone to set up the lesson I was engaged with a rude, belligerent and nasty instructor who acted as if I had did something wrong. Again this lesson was set up at a time that was convenient for both of us not just me, Richard, agreed to be there on time and be present. Unfortunately it was a complete waste of time, I was given a bucket of balls for my time. read more

Marine Park is probably in its best shape ever. Comparing to other city courses, it fairs ok. Always a good time there, but gets busy... be prepared for ~6 hour rounds on weekends. read more

Very average course, fairways are decent and the greens are usually in good shape. The course itself is not difficult, but the high winds and some pin placements can contribute to high scores. Pace of play is a serious problem though at Marine Park (and all of the city courses for that matter). Folks, a round of golf shouldn't take 5 hours or more (which is sadly the norm here). Be part of the solution and keep an eye on your pace. You know who you are. It's about everyone's enjoyment, and you slow players are ruining it for the dozens and dozens of players behind you. It only takes 1 slow group to screw up the pace for the rest of the day. And to the greens keepers- rethink some of your pin placements. I've seen scratch golfers 3 putt from 5 feet when you put the cup on those severe slopes. You bear some responsibility for the slow play as well. It's a mini course, not Augusta. I'd agree with several of the reviews highlighting the unfriendly staff as well. There are a few nice ones in there, but most of the veterans are down right jerks. But I will say that the course manager I met once was very nice and even apologetic about the slow pace. He gave me a pass for a future round after I gave up on the 3rd hole after 1.5hours. Do the math on how long that round would have taken! So I give him praise...I just wish I could remember his name. read more

Haven't played this course in over a year it's in great condition but took 6hr to play 18. I complained at the 10 hole the lady inside said she was sending a ranger out. The ranger was sitting on his phone the whole time didn't care about anything. I complained after the round to her that I've never played a round more than 5hrs anywhere she said that's the normal, make enough money and join a private club... last time I give them any money read more

I'm new to the game and I love Marine Park. It's clean and the staff is great. It's a lovely open airy experience. It's much better than Forest Park which feels very confined and dark to me. They really seem interested in getting all people into the game. I'm West Indian American so that kind of stuff matters to me. I only spend my money at places where I feel welcomed and I feel welcomed at Marine Park. read more

the place is kind of a dump, but in all fairness, they have made huge improvements to the course in the last 5 years. If you can get out to staten island, i think La Tourette, Silverlake and South Shore are better options (in that order). read more

I played this course two years ago when the course was starting renovations. I was excited to experience the fast greens and see how the course was shaping up. The greens were in good condition, but not near as good as the first time. The rest of the course is definitely improving, but not as nicely kept as many other NYC courses. The question of the day, from an employee...is this tee backed up? There were three groups sitting on the 7th tee waiting to hit. And we were two hours into the round. Total time.for the round was 5:30+ with waiting on every hole. No marshall activity to speak of, but not sure it would have helped. It's debatable if I would return. read more

Staff was very rude. They wanted to kick us off after the first hole, claiming we were taking too long, however we were still waiting for the group in front of us. Man named Ted "head ranger" was following us through out the whole course, after every hole he would say keep it going, was very unsettled . Felt rushed and could not play well. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COURSE AT ALL!!!!! I've played here literally hundreds of times yet this time the so called "owner" followed us around from 14-18 because he said "we were the only people on the course and left 3 divots on hole 10," meanwhile there was 4 groups right behind us, while we were already on hole 14. Also, a guy named Bill (who should be fired) came up to us and said "last people on gotta go first," yet there was 4 groups behind us and then insisted we were scumbags for not understanding how we needed to leave first, although there was 4 groups behind us. This guy named Bill then was slamming on the desk how we were liars, screaming like a maniac how we were psychopaths, and how nobody was behind us, yet the entire time there was 4 groups behind us (I mean our tee time was 4:30, obviously people played behind us). The owner completely accused us of driving all over their greens yet we didn't even rent golf carts which was extremely confusing but they insisted it was us driving on the greens, mean while we were all walking. Also, they threatened to call the cops on us multiple times because we damaged the greens, yet we didn't do a single thing, even though the "owner" followed us around from 14-18 with out any proof at all. Further more, on our way out, multiple workers pushed us and shoved us without any disregard to their customers, and then continued to threaten to call the police. I do not recommend this course whatsoever and find it completely absurd how they would put their hands on a paying customer and still insist on calling the cops. It is terribly managed and not well kept whatsoever, not to mention a crazy amount of mosquitoes as well, please do not play at this course!!!! There is much better golf at either forest park golf course, dyker beach golf course, or Kissena park golf course which I highly highly recommend. DO NOT PLAY GOLF AT MARINE PARK, THEIR MANAGEMENT IS ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE AND COMPLETELY RUDE!!!!!! read more

I recently visited for a catered event and the food was terrible. Atmosphere was great though.

Much improved from years past. It plays like the longest public course in the city because of the long 5's and the viciousness of the wind. You get your money's worth out of the links type course. Just repair those bunkers guys! read more
