I went in on a Saturday to look at a specific kayak they had in stock. As soon as I opened the door the smell hit me. The shop smells like a litter box. There's at least 1 cat walking around and it's clearly been using several items in the place as scratch pads. One kayak had the flooring all torn up. The furniture with padding is disgusting! There are birds too. Cages were disgusting. Even the fish tank was gross. In fact, the place looks like it's owned by hoarder. There's stuff stashed in various areas. The more you look around, the more you see. Now on to the shopping experience. I told them what I was looking for and they directed me to a "salesman". He showed me what I was looking for which was outside covered in dirt. That's where his usefulness stopped. He had no clue about any of the kayaks I wanted to see. Told me the kayak had 800lb weight limit but it's actually 650lbs. When I asked where the floor inserts were he said they didn't come with them, but they actually do come with them already installed. Asked for a specific color and was told that color was "defective" and the manufacturer was recalling all of them, and that's another lie. When he realized I wasn't going to buy one right then and there, he proceeded to follow me around the store for the remainder of my visit. The only way he would've gotten closer was if he had ridden on my back! I ended up driving to San Marcos the same day and bought the exact kayak I wanted. If you buy anything from here, make sure you disinfect the hell out of it. read more

This place is just foul. This is a hole for sure. Walked in and immediately smelled cat piss. I only noticed one cat but you can tell it laid on everything in the store. It had hair and scratches in the boats and furniture. Then there were bird cages that smells bad as well with almost black looking water in them. Fish tank didn't look too good either. There was a bag of open chips and other food items like salsa out in what looked like a break room, along with what looked like newspapers and trash laying around. It looked like hoarders storage unit. The boats were dirty and the kayaks were stacked on top of each other outside. So you had to move them to look at the other ones. It just looked completely unprofessional compared to other places. The sales guy didn't know anything. Everything he said was completely wrong from the pamphlet they have of the kayak I wanted sitting up front for anyone to take. If I can't get this kayak I want from anywhere else, then I'll just swim around. read more

I initially heard about Marine Outlet from a friend reccomending I check their stock for a PDL 106 fishing kayak. I arrived at the store and greeted with plenty of hospitality, a cute cat, and tons of stock on many hard-to-find items. I had a peculiar situation regarding payment, and Jackie was happy to accommodate and help me get out on the water. If I could give NO stars I would! We locked down a new Tritoon. Paid deposit. Got financed. Went to pick it up--and were so appalled by the customer service, we walked away heartbroken. The boat was filthy--caked in mud. Holes were drilled in the wrong places. They had the wrong trolling motor. The fish graph was mounted in a ridiculous location, even though we requested it in a better location (that didn't block all the gauges and was blocked by the steering wheel. All with a Mickey Mouse trailer. But the worst of it all, was the salesman. He didn't greet us. He didn't seem interested in helping make the deal happen. He didn't offer to fix anything. He didn't offer my daughter water or a restroom or to come in to the air conditioning. We stood out in the parking lot waiting. Mind you, the heat index was 108. Even if they had the boat of my dreams, I wouldn't buy it from these people. read more

wow, bought some parts last week and went to pick them up today. paid cash for the parts last week but no record of that in their computer so they said I needed to pay again. I explained that I already had and even had some stuff to return from the same ticket and would not believe that I already paid or even check with the person that sold them to me last week to see if there was some sort of error. They pretty much called me a liar and even threatened to call the police for this $6.00 part. just wow. I had no problem paying just cant see being treated like a criminal over a misunderstanding like this without a bit of research. A different approach would have been appreciated read more

I took my boat to another local shop first. Several pick ups, money spent, a lot of time wasted later... Specialty knocked it out of the park the first time and cleaned up after previous shop!!! I picked up my boat today from Marine Outlet in Temple TX and I have to say I was very impressed. My boat was fixed and they even cleaned it up. I walked up to my boat and thought I had a new boat, they waxed it, vacumed it and cleaned the mold off the vinyl seats. I had stored my boat for over 8 months in a boat storage facility that had a leaky roof and with all the rain we had in Central Texas, needles to say my boat was pretty grungy. To my amazement Marine Outlet had done a complete detail on my boat. I have never been so happy. It is things like this--- the customer service that will have me coming back and recommending my friends and family. Thank you so much for caring about your customers!!! You made my day. I called to get a price for installing a new fish finder. I was told it would take between and hour and hour and a half. I took my boat there and showed Rick what I had and needed. I wanted a Hummingbird Helix installed and linked to my Hummingbird 1199 and I-pilot trolling motor. He again told me it would take 1 1/2 - 2 hours to install @ $110 a hour labor (165-220). When I got there my bill was $1051. There were apparent parts that I needed but he charged me 3 1/2 hours labor with the explanation that he did not know what I had, which is extremely hard to believe (I think straight up lie) as he was right next to the boat when he gave me the quote. He did not budge, I paid the bill and vowed never to go back. The work Duane did on the boat appears to be great work. The only reason I gave it two stars was because of how they worked with me to get a transducer bracket that I needed before that went smoothly, otherwise a one star. Micky B read more

Purchased a used boat in May 2020. Rick the owner said he would have it cleaned up and ready in 7 days. Then charged $999 for a tune up on boat motor that he never did. All he did was wipe down the motor, replace the prop with a used wrong size one. He cashed my check for boat the day I wrote it and then when I showed up to see if they were working on replacing parts promised on day 5, nothing had been touched and he had no answers for why not. Had a terrible attitude and worse customer service I have ever had to put up with. Now 2 months later I have had to replace the water pump he said he did but didn't, buy a new prop, and no telling what else will happen. Don't buy used from this place! read more

It's been a pleasure working with Rick Smith and the team at Marine Outlet. I purchased a 2019 Yamaha 4 Stroke Motor for my Used Pontoon. Rick Gave me a good deal on my old motor trade in and a fair price on the new. This has been a unique situation that I have had some Cavitation issues at top speed. Rick and the Marine team have done everything and more to fix the issue. I had replaced the pontoons on the boat with taller than stock pontoons. After Marine changing out numerous props we determined that my shaft was too short to accommodate to taller pontoons. Marine is in the process of making fix. Dealing with all the people at Marine Outlet has been a great experience. The customer service and personal attention I have received has been great! Rick personally called me on a Sunday ( they are closed Sundays ) after ordering a special Pontoon prop to see if that fixed the problem. Rick and Tom are a true class act. I purchased a used boat, and after launch, had a major alarm go off. I called Rick/Tom while on the water, and without hesitation, offered to pick up my vessel (all the way to Austin), and find & fix the fault. So they did, and did not accept a dime for payment. Although that happened a few months ago, I am still in awe of the true commitment to their customers. It's not common to find such integrity in the business, or any business for that matter. It is peace of mind to deal with folks that have such honesty and morality. I can't say enough to thank them for such professionalism, not only during the sale of my boat (which was the lowest in a 300 mile search radius), but for their timely, knowledgeable and outstanding service. Our boat buying experience was good but when there was a problem with our boat and we had to take it in for the service that was a whole other experience! First, it took us 3 months to get the work done and get our boat back! There was always an excuse for the delay! Then when it was finally ready to be picked up and I went to go get it there was a huge scratch down the side and the boat was filthy! When I complained about the state of my boat, the sales person started raising his voice and then dropped the "F" bomb! We dropped off our boat on September 7, 2018. It was looked over and it was determined pending mechanical review that the boat was in good condition and we signed a contract for sale of $10,500. Mechanics would have a review and let us know any issues within 24 hours. The boat was listed on Marine Outlets website indicating "very clean" two days after we dropped off the boat which indicated to us that it had been looked at by the mechanics. Prior to dropping the boat off we had a different boat company go through our boats mechanics. We also took the boat to another facility and had some minor surface repair from under the boat taken care of also prior to taking it to Marine Outlet. We knew the condition of the boat when we dropped it off and were not surprised that we did not hear from Marine Outlet regarding any issues. Then, almost 2 weeks later we receive a call that we had wrecked the boat and it needed $4000 in repair. We assumed that this company was trying to scam money from us for repairs that we not necessary so we decided to just pick the boat up and sell it another way. When we picked the boat up it was evident that it had been wrecked. I asked if someone had taken it out and was told they wouldn't do that. The owner also asked me if we had insurance. We took the boat to the businesses that saw the boat prior to us taking it to Marine Outlet and they confirmed that this boat was not in this condition when they saw it. Marine Outlet refuses any responsibility. The ethics of this business is highly questionable. I feel certain that other people have experienced similar issues. I called to talk to the owner and was told that he was with a customer and would be a while before he called back. She asked my name and number only and when Rick called he stated who he was and that he understood that I was calling about damage I thought was done on their lot.
