Very good restaurant right by the barbour. It´s famous for its fish and chips. There are two floors. The lower one is really cool. Decorated in original style. It feels very cozy and takes you back in the history. The upper floor is more modern and kind a without soul. Not really my favourite style. Staff is friendly. A bit slow but it was crowded so it wasn´t so it was understandable. They have a plenty of high chairs, unfortunately still not enough. This place is very popular among families so we had to wait a bit for a high chair. But that´s not their fault so.... Food was really good, not amazing but very decent. The prices are less reasonable but I understand that it´s a place mainly for tourists so that´s something what man can expect. Beer is very good. I guess I would come back when I am in Stonehaven again. read more

Me and my friends call Stonehaven ''the village''... and every Sunday we always go to the village for our soup! It is a tradition that has not been broken for the last two years and I do not see something like that happening in the near future. The Marine Hotel, is the place that we go every weekend, to have a salmon skink. The best and most tasty soup that I have ever had in my life. Creamy, and tasty, it is being served in a fresh bread bowl and it comes down your throat easily. In combination with chips (that you need to tell them to be well done, as they are quite chunky and some times they come raw in the middle) and a portion of garlic bread, your tummy will be full and you will be pleased...I guarantee for that! Friends have told me that the risotto is also really good. Prices are very good, and the boys that run the place are the kindest of all. What I also really enjoy is that they take their time when you ask for the bill, so that you can actually get some more time to enjoy your time there. The decoration is warm and cosy, and it has a fireplace that during the winter is on, making our stay there a wonderful experience on the cold and wet days of Aberdeenshire. read more

Stayed here on a whim while driving up the coast of Scotland with my family. Absolutely loved it. Nice view of the little harbor. The place was jam packed full of people drinking - this was a Saturday late afternoon when we arrived. They had two rooms for us and after bringing our luggage up and visiting the beautiful Dunnottar Castle a few miles away it was time for us to have a couple before dinner. Sat at the tables outside and instantly starting up conversation with a couple of lads from Aberdeen. Sat and drank until our time for dinner reservations came up. Food was great, seafood and local meats and all the trimmings. One of the best meals we had in Scotland. Went back outside for a couple of after dinner drinks and ended up staying till last call. Sunday morning featured a great breakfast included in the price of the room. Only downside was that they said it was from 9:30-10:30 only. Seems strange but it wasn't crowded at all and either people sleep a lot later than we do or people just wait until Sunday Roast time. Anyway had a great time and really liked it here. They didn't even charge me until we were about to check out. Paid at the bar where the breakfast was served. Left my room keys on the bar when leaving, very laid back. read more

The Marine is a very popular bar, in the picturesque setting of Stonehaven Harbour. It is popular with tourists but also has a large amount of loyal regulars who frequent this bar, probably for its relaxed ambience and vast selection of fine beers and ales. You would have to visit the Marine on many, many occasions before you could sample all of the beers! The Marine also serves food which I would say is usually excellent. I have only eaten in the bar recently and the quality of food is up there with the best bar food, prices are as you would expect for the quality. The bar can get very busy so you are not always guaranteed a seat on a Friday or a Saturday night. In the summertime, the bar is mobbed, particularly on a sunny day. It is well worth a visit though as there is plenty of seating and standing area outside in the harbour. read more
