Fab hotel on the outskirts of Aberdeen a short £12 taxi ride from the city centre, Aberdeen Altens Hotel has much to recommend itself. The staff are really on the ball and anticipated all my questions at check in before I had a chance to ask them. They gladly summoned cabs which arrived promptly whenever required and the rooms were simply marvellous.
Here's a wee list of my rooms attributes: Comfy beds, free WiFi, in room safety deposit box, iron and ironing boards, oodles of storage, non-fogging bathroom mirror great bath shower and products, flat screen TV, room service, nespresso machine and kettle, shortbread and highland spring water, dressing gown, slippers and more. They thought of everything!
There's a swimming pool too and a friendly if expensive bar, and a restaurant that I didn't try. Plenty of free parking. Hey there's even an IKEA across the roundabout if you get bored. Only downside for me came at breakfast which was decent enough, but one of the staff members was excessively dour, coffee was slow to arrive and our used plates were sometimes left to stack up. All in all we had a great stay and I would definitely recommend a stay if the out of town location suits.
Vegetarians note they offer veggie sausages on the breakfast buffet menu but presume you have to make a point of asking for them to be cooked to order. I couldn't be bothered waiting and there were plenty of other options on days that clumsy guests hadn't spilled bits of haggis into the tomatoes beans and mushrooms. Oh the trials of being vegetarian lol! read more
