Set in it's own grounds with ample parking & a nicely set out garden area, it just looks the Country House part. We didn't go in the Function room or seperate Dining room but instead, used the Lounge Bar area & attached dining section. This was nicely decorated with restored wood panelling & an original fireplace. You get an even mix of people here from casual visitors (us), Guests having an evening meal along with the regulars at the Bar area. The staff were attentive & although the place was busy they managed to get us a table promptly (I would recommend phoning ahead at the weekend as it was surprisingly busy when we turned up hungry). The menu options were varied enough for everyones preferences & the food was just special. I had the Lamb Kebab on a bed of rice &, on the waiters recommendation, my partner had the Grilled Salmon with Ginger.. This place has jumped to my No.1 place to eat in Stonehaven. If you are going visit the area you could do much worst that consider staying here. You never know, you just might even bump into us cos for sure we will be back.

It feels very cozy and takes you back in the history. The upper floor is more modern and kind a without soul. Not really my favourite style. Staff is friendly. A bit slow but it was crowded so it wasn´t so it was understandable. They have a plenty of high chairs, unfortunately still not enough. This place is very popular among families so we had to wait a bit for a high chair. But that´s not their fault so.... Food was really good, not amazing but very decent. The prices are less reasonable but I understand that it´s a place mainly for tourists so that´s something what man can expect. Beer is very good. I guess I would come back when I am in Stonehaven again.

We found this spot in some local guide and decided to give it a shot. The restaurant has a small dining area in the front and additional seating in the back room by the bar. The menu has a variety of options as well as specials listed on the chalk board in the middle of the room. I really thought that it was good that they had the option for some dishes to get half portions. Being in Scotland I wanted to try their haggis and black pudding fritters that were fried in a light almost beer batter like crust and dressed with a small salad in the middle of the half sliced round fritters with a sweet sauce with a little heat chili sauce. The sauce was really good and surprisingly went well with the haggis and black pudding flavors. Both the haggis and black pudding was good but not the best I've had. Next course was the beef stroganoff with rice. The sauce of the stroganoff was ok but a little looser that what I'm used to. Also I think it would have done better with wide noodles than rice. Dessert I had the hot toffee sundae which is a good ending to the meal. The only slight negative was that it did take some time to get our food. I'm guessing it could be lack of kitchen staff to help cook and prepare all the dishes to come to the customers at a timely matter. At the time we went it happened that two other large tables were dining there arrived just before us. The servers were very nice to us and also were nice enough to give my friend some bread with butter as she waited for her entree to come and she didn't order an appetizer.
