Gran Rodeo is located in the Landstown Place Shopping Center in Virginia Beach. The shopping…read morecenter isn't too big, but there are lots of businesses in here and parking has been pretty limited anytime I have come to this shopping center. When checking in here, I didn't realize I had been here before, but that was over a decade ago. My most recent visit here was on March 7, 2026. With this place being part of a shopping center, it didn't stand out too much from the other businesses there. I didn't see anything with them to pop out from the rest of the businesses there. My mom and I came in here around 4 pm that day. It was pretty busy, but I wasn't surprised since it was a Saturday. It took a few minutes for someone to come to the front desk to get us seated. While waiting for that, I had the chance to look over the specials they have throughout the week too. Since the timing was around St. Patricks Day, they had cards for the 757 Sober Ride program. Once someone came over, we were able to be seated. Shortly after, someone came around with the chips, salsa, and white sauce. We had some of that, and they are pretty similar to other places like this in our area. Our server came over and asked what we wanted to drink, so we did get the drink orders in, along with a Large Cheese Dip as the appetizer while still looking over the menu to decide what we would get. After about five to ten minutes later, we were finally ready to order, which was just after the cheese dip came out. I decided to go with the Burritos Fajitas Chicken (no rice) with a side of pico de gallo, while my mom ordered the Fajita Taco Salad with steak meat. While waiting for the order to come out later, we continued on to what we already had at the table. The Cheese Dip appetizer was good. It really felt like it was just cheese though. Usually there would be a few other things in it too to add flavor to it, at least that has been my experience in other places. In the end, it was still a good dip though. After about 10 to 15 minutes, the entrees came out to the table. They were both hot and looked good. The burritos that I had were good. The chicken in it was nice and tender too. I added pico de gallo to it on top, and I am glad I did, as that helped add more flavor to burritos. The beans were good too, but I don't eat too much of them. I had thought all was good for my mom until we were done and ready for the check. She told me that she didn't really notice any flavor to the Fajita Taco Salad, and the steak that was on it was tough to eat, so she didn't eat much of that part. She didn't really have a chance to address with with staff as they didn't come back around until we were pretty much done. We did say something at that point, but they said she should have said something to make it right. However, how do you do that when nobody came back over until the end? Overall, I would say everything was just okay at best. Just breaking out the parts, I would give the service a two and the food a three. It was the overall experience that made me look at this visit as a two star rating as it could have been better. I probably won't be back here soon as there are several other Mexican restaurants in the area where I have had much better overall experiences.

I met my Family here for an early dinner on Mother's Day…read more We were greeted as soon as we walked in and were immediately seated. Chip's and salsa were delivered and drink orders taken. I was surprised we didn't get white sauce with our chips . When we asked about it, our Server said we needed to ask for it . We asked and we got a bowl of white sauce. That's unusual to me because I've never been to a Mexican restaurant that didn't serve both Salsa and white with chips. Their chip were warm, salsa and white sauce were both very good. For my meal I ordered Carne Asada Tacos on soft wheat shells. The steak was seasoned and grilled to perfection. There were also large sides of rice and beans with the Tacos. The Restaurant is fairly large. Seating is spaced out nicely. There is an outdoor seating area that overlooks a lake. I enjoyed everything about the restaurant but do not live near it so I probably won't go there again unless a special occasion takes me to the area.

The outside of the building is easy to see when coming up on Nimmo Parkway. My most recent visit here was on April 10, 2026. The outside of the business looks to be like a festive Mexican place. The colors of the name stand out from the rest of the building. There is outdoor seating overlooking the lake. I have found that parking can be a bit dicey during the busier times, which was the case on my most recent visit. The inside of the business is a festive Mexican scene too with all the art along the walls and such throughout. The overall vibe is part Mexican, part Bar Scene. It's actually a great combo for them. It had been a few years since I had been there before my first recent visit on March 30, 2026. I was going through stuff for an early spring cleaning, and found a coupon (that didn't have an expiration date). It was so old that it still listed locations for their sister restaurant El Tapatio (no longer around). This was the catalyst that got both myself and my mom to come back in. Speaking of coupons, they do honor coupons from their competitors too. On the first recent visit (March 30, 2026), we were immediately greeted and went to a booth. A server came over and brought the chips and salsa right away. When our server came over, which was pretty quick, we did ask to have the white sauce too (by request now). When he came back, I showed him the coupon and he went over to check with the manager. Ultimately, that coupon was able to be used on this visit. It was now time to start ordering while still looking over the menu. We started with the Small Cheese Dip Appetizer. This is something I get most of the time when going to a Mexican restaurant, though I will switch out to guacamole sometimes. It didn't take long for the cheese dip to come out. I don't normally drink alcohol, but I did on this visit, and I would try the Bloody Maria. My mom would get Pepsi on this visit. It would still take us a bit longer to choose something since there is so much to choose from. After another few minutes, we were finally ready to order. I ordered the Burritos Mexicanos with Chicken as the protein (no rice), while my mom got the Chimichangas with ground beef as the protein. In a little under ten minutes, the food came out to the table, and it was very hot, which is what I would expect. Both entrees looked really good. The burritos looked small, but they were packed with chicken and flavor. My mom really liked the Chimichangas as well. Since this visit was so good, we came back a few weeks later on April 10, 2026. On the April 10, 2026 visit, parking was pretty limited, which I am not surprised since it was a Friday evening and the weather was nice. This second visit was very similar to the one a few weeks before. On this visit, we ordered the Tableside Guacamole, but exclude the serrano peppers in it. Even without the serrano peppers, the guacamole was really good, fresh and flavorful. For the entree, I ordered a Burrito Bowl with chicken as the protein. My mom ordered the TJ Tacos entree. Both of those food items were great too, and my mom said it was too much, but it was good. Overall, these latest visits here were great. The food and service were on point and didn't have any issues. One thing to note is that if you use a credit card, there is a 3% processing fee. This fee does not apply when paying by cash or debit card. With great food and great service, this place is worth checking out if you're in the Red Mill area in Virginia Beach and looking for a Mexican place.

I wanted to like this place, but my experience wasn't great…read more I arrived a little after 7pm on a Wednesday night. It's right next to Zeke's (Yum!) so the free shared parking lot is across the street with extra parking in the back. The place was on the smaller side (usually a good sign, as "holes in the wall" tend to be delicious) and had 3 other tables sat with one finishing up. Still, I waited at the front hostess stand a good while before an employee told me to sit anywhere. Strike one. Once sat, the same employee who told me to sit anywhere brought over chips and salsa. But this wouldn't be our waitress. Instead, she was waiting on the table next to us. I admire the teamwork. Furthermore, their salsa was tasty. Things were looking up. Our waitress came a few minutes later with a water for me and drinks for another table on the same tray. She asked if I wanted anything besides water to drink and I told her no, but that I was ready to order. Instead of giving the drinks to the other table she took my order without writing anything down. This is always a problem for me since I modify everything I order. I will say she was patient and kind with all my modifications and even said them back to me. However, my order was still incorrect. Strike two. When my food arrived the veggies in my veggie taco were not the ones listed in the menu. There wasn't any asparagus or mushrooms, but there was corn! It was the only veggie I could identify from the burnt -whatever- inside my tortilla. Thankfully, the lettuce and shredded cheese on top was very fresh. My second taco was supposed to be steak but I was served chicken. I don't eat chicken. This is why servers should write down customers orders. (A chicken taco was also listed on my receipt!) Sigh. The final strike was how the employees sat at the bar area on their phones, not my waitress, but the rest of the staff. Granted they all seemed to be in their twenties (or younger) so I suppose that's their generation, but this is a huge pet peeve for me. I was a server once upon a time and I know there's always something to clean or stock. Unless it's an emergency an employee shouldn't be on their phones in any customer service profession. Strike three.
