Horrible Service ( no greeting as I walked in, death stare as I ordered and no thank you upon leaving)! They have young girls working in the front that need customer service training. In addition , the cake was bland (understand that German cake has low sugar, which I appreciate and aware) but this cake was bland and tasted like wax! No flavor with the exception of the filling ... very disappointing! Ordered for my daughter's 15th birthday, she didn't even have a full slice! Threw in the trash, what a waste of money. Great service and friendly people! I came here last second trying to find a Rosca de Reyes, unfortunately they were all sold out, but they were willing to keep the shop open for an extra hour to finish baking some extra ones for us procrastinators. Unfortunately I was on a tight schedule so I didn't accept the generous offer. I instead got a treat to go and it looks amazing!! Side note, I went to a small birthday gathering a few days back and they had bought a cheesecake from this bakery as the birthday cake. It was absolutely delicious and a must have. The filling was light like a mousse yet still firm, not at all as dense as I'm used to (but just as delicious). I highly recommend the cheesecake if you like light fluffy desserts. read more

My call was quickly answered by a cheerful lady (no automated service, a real live person) who answered all of my questions and told me that she would box up my order and have it ready in 15 minutes. When you walk in, it's a humble looking bakery with a quaint dining area. It feels like you're visiting someone's family dining area. Very cool. We were greeted as soon as we walked in. Service was great. Food was just ok. Tiramisu and eclairs tasted like they were frozen and not made in house. I had a pretzel which did taste homemade, but it was almost stale. I had a bratwurst and the bread was phenomenal; soft, fresh and delicious. The brat not so much. Not sure if it was microwaved, but it was not impressive and not very flavorful. I'd come back to give some of their other baked goods a try. I will say I've had their homemade cake and it was delicious. The decoratied cookies are delicious but the young ladies behind the counter are rude and very Unprofessional. I usually buy a large amount of cookies but today I was told there was a limit. First time I've ever been told that. This was very upsetting. This is a single family owned and operated business. Not Dunkin' Donuts. Not Starbucks. There isn't a line formed outside the door. I love Marinas! It's right around the corner from our house so we're there probably once a month. It's a quaint little bakery. Good food. Unfortunately the last three times I've been in I've been helped by a young girl with pink hair and a rotten attitude. Her job is to take a pair of tongs and place cookies in a box, but you'd think she was being splattered with battery acid. Last time I was there a man was looking for a cake he ordered and she rolled her eyes at management (I presume) when he let her know the order had been hung on the side of the fridge. Just uncalled for. And I'm not a princess, but she's rotten enough that I'll drive in the opposite direction to get baked goods from the new bakery by Peking Garden. Marina's German Bakery is a classic in El Paso. They've been around since 1956. If that isn't a reputable small business, then I don't know what is. This is my go-to spot for special occasions. The other day, I came to buy some cookies for my grandfather because he loves sweets. Their cookies are always fresh and taste great! I like that the majority of them aren't overly sweet. My grandfather was celebrating his 85th birthday. That is a special occasion in my book! My mom also likes their cookies and cakes. She's celebrating a birthday in a couple of weeks. I'll probably buy her a cake from here if I don't bake it. I like to bake occasionally. I have yet to try their pretzels or bread. Their pretzels were on sale the day I went but I wasn't in the mood for one. I stuck with the cookies. Oh yeah, I also bought some macarons for me and my son. Kids like these a lot for some reason. I think the bright colors probably entice them. I gave my son the chocolate one and I had a strawberry one. Their macarons are bite size but they're really tasty. I enjoyed their chocolate sandwich cookie a lot as well. The great thing about their cookies is that they still taste good after a few days! The cookies are not overpriced either. Most of them are under a dollar. A lot of them were .80 each. I ended up spending $18. Not bad! I'll keep coming here. read more

Marina's is such a nice change of pace from all the typical bakeries in El Paso. It really is an authentic German bakery with brotchen, baguettes, cakes (if you've never had a German cake, don't expect a Betty Crocker cake...think whipped, light and not too sweet), and pastries. The Rum balls are by far my favorite, the flavor isn't too much chocolate or too much Rum -it's perfect. It's quaint (not in the nicest of shopping plazas, but not a bad neighborhood) like a German bakery should be. There are about 3 or 4 tables inside if you'd like to dine-in, which I love doing. If whether permits, I recommend eating outside on the patio, it's airy and shaded so even in the summer you don't feel the EPT heat. Normally I wouldn't give a simple bakery 5 stars, but Marina's is so authentic it is a must for everyone in El Paso and everyone passing through. read more

Came here due to the great reviews. I did enjoy my visit and some of the pastries. My favorite one was the cookie filled with raspberries, it was delicious as it was not overly sweet. Did not care for the macaroons. The tiramisu was good and the cake with the pineapple filling was my second favorite. We didn't care for the double chocolate. read more

It's so easy to get caught up with the new and trendy, that it is simple to forget the local bakeries that have been around for a long time. Marina's is amazing, in their one unique way. They have a large variety of pastries and breads. From French bread to Pretzels and everything savory in between. I haven't had anything there that I haven't liked. You can buy small pastries or a whole cake. It's very versatile when it comes to what they offer. I like that. The prices are very good. You can walk out with a loaf of bread, a box full of pastries, and pretzels just for a little over $20. Of course, that depends on what you choose. I ordered a cake, when I show up to pick it up, they had the wrong cake, they didn't write down the message the person who took the order asked me to tell her. The cake I ordered was pink and when she asked me, I told her white lettering. When I show up the cake was white and no the paper they wrote the order didn't have the message it only Said I wanted white lettering. I always loved going into the bakery when I was stationed in Germany. The smell of freshly baked goods was always welcome on a Saturday morning. Marina's is no different. Someone from my family is there every Saturday morning to get what we need. They have both large (normal) and small brötchen. However, if you want the small, you'd better get there early. They are usually out by noon. Of course they offer a variety of German breads, cookies, pretzels, and cakes. My favorite cake is the Black Forest cake. Marina's excels here! You can call in an order which is very handy if you cannot get their early. Call and tell them what you want and they will hold it for you. They have a small area to eat and an outdoor area when it is warmer. While it is not the same atmosphere as when you are sitting outside watching people walk by, it does give you a nice place to sit and enjoy a nice pastry and coffee or tea. Came here five min befor closing time. Look on yelp seem like they got a few good rating on their chart. Was kinda of sad. wasnt enought cake selection for me. They only had one kind. i not sure what it was call. It had white and chocolate wit waith a pineapple filling i think. It was dry and the cake was falling aprat. For lunch I had the goulash and German potato salad that was totally phenomenal and soo addicting! Always very fresh and delicious, home made and the best of ingredients. The breads are AMAZING. The moment I stepped into the German Bakery (Bäckerei in German), it smelled like home. It's so nice to have a little piece of Germany on the eastside of town and I felt like I was at home, with all those sweets and German varieties of breads and rolls. Some elderly women had their coffee date there, just like home when Grannies meet at heir local bakery, and it smelled like cake and coffe. I ordered a lot of pastries, cookies and German brezeln, and I have to say that I was content. It's not as good as back home, but regarding that they have to work with American ingredients and that flour is quite different here, I'm just happy I got a taste of home. So... on 14 March we made a purchase of brotchen, kaiser rolls, pastries and brats that came to $37... when we got home we discovered the brotchen and kaiser roll were rock hard... which kind of spoiled our bratwurst dinner! I took the rolls back today, 15 March at noon and stated our disappointment. The woman at the counter gave me a skeptical look and stated that if we bought them yesterday then of course they would be hard today. I told her again that they were hard when we got home yesterday (but really... does anyone in the US run to the bakery for brotchen in the morning so you would expect that they would be soft the next day). She continued to be skeptical so I grabbed the bag of possibly $3 of bread out of a $37 purchase and said that's ok... we just won't shop here anymore.
