The wood is fine. The price isn't outrageous. The owner, however, is a nasty little man. I called Russell yesterday and he fit me in early this morning. Perfect! He quoted me. I inquired about having them stack the wood -- an extra $120. No problem. He asked how far the wood pile is from where they would be dumping it and I told him roughly 20 yards. He inquired if it would be accessible with a wheelbarrow, to which I responded "yes". When he arrived this morning, he pitched a fit, telling my wife that he asked about stairs, and I said there weren't any. (1) There aren't any stairs and (2) he never asked me about stairs! There's a curb between the driveway and the path leading to the wood pile. 1 curb. This sent him into a rage and he told my wife it would be an extra $20. Fine -- they stacked the wood. He told my wife we could get our wood from someone else now. I called Russell to ask why he treated my wife the way he did and he said something yet again about the "stairs". I told him that was unacceptable and then he proceeded to tell me to get my wood from somewhere else and promptly hung up on me. Russell may be the only game in town -- I don't know. I do know that if you don't want this creepy cretinous a-hole insulting you or your family members, you owe it to yourself to call around. read more

I was able to order and arrange the delivery without too much hassle. As others have noted, it's cash or check only, and it took a day or two to arrange the delivery. If you need a delivery in an exact time window, it may be difficult to arrange. Now a few months later, I can't recommend this business. The wood was just not seasoned enough, and generally in pieces too large for small wood stoves. Too many pieces were green with moss or difficult to burn branches. I'd prefer to support a local business, but I'd have been better off purchasing wood in smaller quantities from an Ace or Safeway. read more

I used Marin Firewood last year. The wood was lovely and I want to do local all the way. This year I'm sorry to say that the wood was not well seasoned, although delivered promptly as always. It is hard to start and keep burning ( a problem that I have never had before) and smokes a great deal. Reached out to the Russell on Thursday night. He answered the phone later than the usual business hours which was impressive. He told me he would call me on Monday morning to tell me what time on that day he can deliver. I asked him if he would stack the wood to which he replied " In the time that would take me to stack the wood, I can make 3 deliveries". A simple "no" would have been just fine. He also told me he only takes cash and check. I did not hear from him till 11:30a on Monday. He called me to tell him I am next. I asked him roughly how long before he gets there because I needed to leave Novato to meet him. He replied "I don't know but I don't want to wait for you". Then he suggested to push me back in the day which would have been fine with me. I asked him what time later. to which he replied "I don't know. I have 12 deliveries". I told him I could meet him at my house in 20 minutes and asked again "how long will it take you to get to my house?". Again he said he didn't know and then something about needing to meet his driver in the parking lot of Yardbirds..... . He sounded stressed out and I didn't want to deal with that. I thanked him for his call and cancelled my order. He made no effort to save the business and hung up the phone. I may have caught Russell in a bad day or something. I wish him well. He is a local Marin Business and I really wanted to support local. I hung up the phone and called Bare Bottom Farms Firewood. A very pleasant lady answered the phone. Offered the same product for a better price. Offered to include kindling free of charge. Gave me pricing for stacking the wood. Accepted credit card over the phone. Scheduled a very narrow time for delivery and told me I do not need to be present when they drop the wood. She will make a confirmation call before they arrive and will follow up after delivery to make sure all went ok. WOW, what a difference a phone call makes. read more

Marin Firewood offers a great price and quick delivery. However, the wood was not as well- seasoned as other firewood places that charge more. There is hissing and steaming with the oak in particular. The walnut was better seasoned than the oak. I would use them again knowing that the wood may just need a little more time to finish drying. read more
