Russell is a pleasure to do business with, unlike some other local wood purveyors: 1 Service is excellent and he is very polite and informative 2 Delivery is on time and faster than expected (Delivery fee was included) 3 A real chord, the largest I have ever received...makes me wonder about what I purchased from others in the past If you are looking for wood, Russell and Marin Firewood are it!!! read more

The wood is fine. The price isn't outrageous. The owner, however, is a nasty little man. I called Russell yesterday and he fit me in early this morning. Perfect! He quoted me. I inquired about having them stack the wood -- an extra $120. No problem. He asked how far the wood pile is from where they would be dumping it and I told him roughly 20 yards. He inquired if it would be accessible with a wheelbarrow, to which I responded "yes". When he arrived this morning, he pitched a fit, telling my wife that he asked about stairs, and I said there weren't any. (1) There aren't any stairs and (2) he never asked me about stairs! There's a curb between the driveway and the path leading to the wood pile. 1 curb. This sent him into a rage and he told my wife it would be an extra $20. Fine -- they stacked the wood. He told my wife we could get our wood from someone else now. I called Russell to ask why he treated my wife the way he did and he said something yet again about the "stairs". I told him that was unacceptable and then he proceeded to tell me to get my wood from somewhere else and promptly hung up on me. Russell may be the only game in town -- I don't know. I do know that if you don't want this creepy cretinous a-hole insulting you or your family members, you owe it to yourself to call around. read more

Excellent product and very good service. Very easy to deal with. Russell can be gruf but is actually a great guy.

Called them Monday Morning asking for a quote and delivery fee's. The were very friendly and efficient. We agreed on a price and day they would drop it off in my driveway. Couldn't be happier with the service and quality of the wood. Oak that's dry and ready to burn. Very Very happy customer. Garren read more

I was able to order and arrange the delivery without too much hassle. As others have noted, it's cash or check only, and it took a day or two to arrange the delivery. If you need a delivery in an exact time window, it may be difficult to arrange. Now a few months later, I can't recommend this business. The wood was just not seasoned enough, and generally in pieces too large for small wood stoves. Too many pieces were green with moss or difficult to burn branches. I'd prefer to support a local business, but I'd have been better off purchasing wood in smaller quantities from an Ace or Safeway. read more

Russell and his crew at Marin Firewood are terrific. The almond we get each year is always well seasoned. Pricing is reasonable & he delivers on time & without adding delivery charges to our Mill Valley home. Reliable and responsive. read more

I bought a half cord of an almond walnut mix from Russell. He delivered it the next day, and the wood looked great. I'll definitely reach out again next season. read more

The "kindling" he delivered for us was nothing more than unseasoned bits of wood of various lengths and was impossible to light.

Russell has the best firewood in Marin bar none! He's available to deliver usually the same day you call him which is awesome in the middle of winter when you're dependent on your wood burning stove. Give him a call, you'll be happy you did! read more

See all

Russell is old school. That means he calls you back right away. He quotes a fair price and delivers the wood on time. The firewood is dry and excellent. read more

Fast delivery but ..... Wood not seasoned as promised. It's very hard to get started without tons of kindling and pine needles. Tried using a duraflame under logs and even then they want to go out... Next year going back to my regular supplier. read more

Delivery was smooth and my wood is all nicely stacked. We haven't had occasion to use it yet, but the process to buy was easy and I relied on the ratings from others initially. read more

Delivery was on time, oak wood was good and dry, price was competitive.

I used Marin Firewood last year. The wood was lovely and I want to do local all the way. This year I'm sorry to say that the wood was not well seasoned, although delivered promptly as always. It is hard to start and keep burning ( a problem that I have never had before) and smokes a great deal. I've used more fatwood to start than I ever had to, and have concerns about using the wood, but it is my only heat source. : - ( read more

Reached out to the Russell on Thursday night. He answered the phone later than the usual business hours which was impressive. He told me he would call me on Monday morning to tell me what time on that day he can deliver. I asked him if he would stack the wood to which he replied " In the time that would take me to stack the wood, I can make 3 deliveries". A simple "no" would have been just fine. He also told me he only takes cash and check. I did not hear from him till 11:30a on Monday. He called me to tell him I am next. I asked him roughly how long before he gets there because I needed to leave Novato to meet him. He replied "I don't know but I don't want to wait for you". Then he suggested to push me back in the day which would have been fine with me. I asked him what time later. to which he replied "I don't know. I have 12 deliveries". I told him I could meet him at my house in 20 minutes and asked again "how long will it take you to get to my house?". Again he said he didn't know and then something about needing to meet his driver in the parking lot of Yardbirds..... . He sounded stressed out and I didn't want to deal with that. I thanked him for his call and cancelled my order. He made no effort to save the business and hung up the phone. I may have caught Russell in a bad day or something. I wish him well. He is a local Marin Business and I really wanted to support local. I hung up the phone and called Bare Bottom Farms Firewood. A very pleasant lady answered the phone. Offered the same product for a better price. Offered to include kindling free of charge. Gave me pricing for stacking the wood. Accepted credit card over the phone. Scheduled a very narrow time for delivery and told me I do not need to be present when they drop the wood. She will make a confirmation call before they arrive and will follow up after delivery to make sure all went ok. WOW, what a difference a phone call makes. read more

Marin Firewood offers a great price and quick delivery. However, the wood was not as well- seasoned as other firewood places that charge more. There is hissing and steaming with the oak in particular. The walnut was better seasoned than the oak. I would use them again knowing that the wood may just need a little more time to finish drying. read more
