Recently, I've had 2 separate experiences within a week a week of each other. The first one, I was selling a bike on CL. A buyer living in Colorado asked if I could ship the bike and I was reluctant to do it. I suggested he call Specialized Bay Area to see if they can handle the packing and shipping of the bike, basically taking liability to get it shipped there. The transaction worked out perfectly where the buyer dealt directly with SBA on the shipping. Buyer Venmo'd me payment and received his bike in 3 days! Kudos to SBA for offering this service! The second experience. I was gonna go for a ride on the Levo this morning. Found a broken spoke. I texted the SBA and explained my problem, gave them a copy of my registration of the Roval wheels, and they said to drop it off any time. I stopped in @ 4pm on a Friday thinking to pick it up next week. One of the managers, Yoav replaced it on the spot, trued the wheel, lubed all the nipples, installed factory tubeless tape, all within 10 minutes! Best of all, the spoke repair was covered under warranty! Actually, the best of all was the staff were friendly and personable. :-) My bike was down for only a few hours! By far, the best experience I have had with a bike shop. I hope they stick around because I want I work here when I retire. Specialized for life!

But it bothered me so much to see that, so here I am. Reading that review now before I write this one, I don't see a trace of truth in what Nick noticed. Maybe Nick knows a competitor. Phillip felt genuine, knowledgeable, understated. He listened well, asked lots of questions to help diagnose the issue, and made me feel welcome. He also fixed my bike's creak on the spot. I've been to so many bike shops. Enough to know how common it is to deal with young kids (and sometimes even adults) who are still trying to figure out who they are. This is not one of those shops. Phillips not a bro. He's a great person, and an even better mechanic. I'm definitely coming back to Pink Puffin.

Plus, he even helped me better understand the right tire pressure for racing. The online calculator I was using was off by about 10 PSI, but he explained the correct pressure based on my tire brand. I also brought in my commuter bike to replace the cables. Philip mentioned that new cables can stretch, so he told me to come back in a couple of weeks for a free tune-up, no appointment needed. Soon after I rode out on a beautifully rebuilt Pinarello road bike. All of his employees through the years have matched Brian's help and care. And now with this bike shop downtown, it is especially great during farmers markets. They have live music, a great assortment of beer, wine and coffee and even popcorn and avocado toast. I rate my experience here as a 1 star based on the following: We were referred to this business…read more We scheduled online with our issue and made an appointment 1 week out. When we arrived at our scheduled time, we were told that our issue could not be addressed based on our bike's seat type making access to the lift not possible. A better run business would have confirmed they have the right equipment before taking the booking. Their system allowed us to book with our bike type. An excellent business would have recognized their error, which was not waiting for a customer to walk in before declining service. A top business would have found a way to get a light bike on the lift. My 12 year old was easily able to load the bike in and out of our pickup truck. My hope is the business will see this review and improve their intake process for prospective new customers. I also hope to warn potential customers to check in and see if their e-bike can be serviced here.
