My friend and I enjoyed brunch at Marika's last weekend. We had the cheese and mushroom omelet and blueberry pecan pancakes. Both were delicious! Very casual atmosphere and super friendly service. It's run by an older mom and pop and their grown daughter who waits on the customers. We'll be back! read more

First time dining here recently. Breakfast order was two omelets and it nearly took what felt like two days to come out of the kitchen. While waiting , unfortunately we had the disadvantage to see one of the servers using her hands to rearrange food on a customers plate. Disgusting, and no gloves were on hands. Make sure to have lots of time on your hands if you go. Best of luck, your gonna need it read more

The food is cheap, but incredibly delicious and the portions are generous. The ladies that serve the tables are a family and they are a riot! The atmosphere is humble and comfy. It feels like going to grandma's house for breakfast. This is not fast food. It's not a chain. The staff will make jokes, hug you, and make pamper you. But it is at a leisurely, enjoyable pace. read more

Ran by an 87 year old German woman whose husband is the chef in the back! Everything fresh and made to order. She mentioned they're closing in September. Go while you still can!!!! Must have. read more

Had a very magical experience there, the owner and family were very sweet and generous :) The Blueberry Mascarpone French Toast was beyond amazing. read more

Very few places do you find such excellent service anymore. They really care about their customers. Thank you for making my morning!

Excellent breakfast fast, generous portions and the waitstaff is attentive and accommodating. The little restaurant has a the feel of coming home to mom's kitchen where conversation is easy and the atmosphere is casual and comforting. Two thumbs up. read more

The best place I've ever been. The atmosphere was beyond amazing, our server was the kindest 85 year old lady. I am obsessed and will be returning! There is clearly so much love in this place. read more

Terrible service. We had to extend our parking before even getting our food because they took so long to serve us. They even took forever to take my money at the checkout (it's cash only). Food was pretty good. read more

Just want to add to my review of a few months ago: went in this really cold (for end of March) morning. Marika took my order for coffee and told me it would be a couple of minutes because the CUPS were cold and she needed to heat them up before she could pour coffee into them. That kind of love and attention is what brings me back. read more

A cute and kind German family owns this place and it's a no-frills breakfast diner in the heart of Beverly. I've come here a couple of times and have enjoyed it quite a bit. They don't accept credit cards which can be quite an inconvenience but the food is tasty. I ordered a goat cheese omelet special with artichoke and it was divine. The home fries were cooked perfectly and if I were any hungrier, I may have ordered more. The main waitress is super personable and while a bit chatty at times, she makes you feel welcomed and likes to personally get to know her patrons. Coffee was always filled and food was just right, so if you have some cash on you and you're hungry for some morning grub, head to Marika's (I sound like a used car salesman with that line but hey, it's genuine). read more

Mooshka, Marika and Basil always make it feel like your at nanas house for Sunday brunch. Food is incredible but the family is what makes this place magic. There's a lot of new restaurants in Beverly but they've been here long before the microbreweries and fancy coffee shops. If you want a real breakfast, not just trendy Social media rubbish then get ya buns over to Marikas! read more

Very very special place great food magical experience Great people very cute inside love all the chickens

I have never written a one start review. Never less than 4 actually. My friend and I had to go there because City Diner, What's Brewin' and Stephy's had lines out the door. When we entered Marika's there were only 2 groups there. One had 2 small kids, and was the recipient of many awful looks and comments. When we got there we moved a table to be able to get in and was told that wasn't allowed to do. She had worked here 21 years and this is not where that table goes. After we ordered coffee she revisited the subject and told us not to do that again. She wouldn't stop, so I said "oh I just got a call, we need to go. I'm sorry we won't be having coffee after all, have a great day." She was an older woman and she said loudly "I know you didn't get a call you just don't like what I said to you." She shouted at us while we were leaving, all the way to the door. "You don't need to be here, we don't need you here. You don't understand how this is." This is so disappointing. read more

Great place for slow, relaxing food and chit chat with the family owners. Great menu and ask for the chai!

Looked all over the area for a quiet Mom and Pop style breakfast stop and came across Marika's. Quirky little place... at first they weren't sure they could get the 5 of us at one table. But we managed just fine. The food was excellent and the hostess was a wonderful German woman who was super pleasant and accommodating. My mother and her talked for quite a bit about Germany and some of their foods. Kids loved their Pancakes and French toast made of Baguettes. All in all we enjoyed ourselves very much read more

We'll start with the good. The food was excellent. The owner and her mother were very personable and friendly - as if we were eating at their house - great customer service! The atmosphere was nice - very Greek Diner-ish (the owner is half Greek - she told us - twice. Lots of locals (I'm a local and I've been here once before and had a similar experience as outlined below). It was very inexpensive - way less than I had expected - the 2 of us ate (pancakes, orange juice, hash and eggs) for $12.50. Now the bad. We (a party of 2) walked in to a full restaurant (no issue there - in fact, that usually means it'll be a great dining experience!). We were seated quickly (also a sign of good things to come). But after we were seated it took 30 minutes to get one of us an orange juice (we ordered 1 each) and the other came after 2 different people came by to ask us what we wanted and we told them 3 times... then after 10 minutes someone brought a duplicate orange juice - so now we had 3 and then they took our food order. 10 minutes later, my companions food came. 35 minutes later, my food came. It turns out - the reason the restaurant was full was because no one was getting their orders... there were just a bunch of tables with people sitting at them waiting for coffee, breakfast, napkins, menus, etc. As folks left, the owner and her mother apologized to each one of them for the long wait and gave a different reason for it to each one of them. This happened the first time I was there too (a while ago). So - in all - the food and customer service was excellent, but the organization of the staff needs serious work. read more

Always incredible food. Very European atmosphere. One can relax, take your time and chat with locals.

This is a really interesting joint. Quirky and full of local character, and the food was very good. Pancakes, French toast, "Buzzy" sandwich, no one had any complaints. Apparently it is 100% family run. There was a bit of a language barrier at one point, which resulted in my nephew getting only one pancake when he wanted two, but we chalked it up to an interesting experience and ordered another one. Speed of service was not their strength, so I'm glad we weren't in a hurry. But I will go back sometime for a leisurely breakfast. read more

Marika's is back! After being closed for a while, they've returned, and are doing everything they possibly can to make you feel safe and at home. I discovered this place just before the shut-down, and was so sad when they had to close. When they reopened, I was excited for the food, but just as (if it more) excited for the people! Marika, Muschka, and Buzzy are wonderful people who care well. I told my wife "This is the closest you can get to eating breakfast in your living room." read more

I feel bad writing this because Marika's mom was the nicest woman in the world, and was genuinely concerned that we enjoyed our food. However, if I could give this place zero stars, I would. I waited AN HOUR AND TWENTY MINUTES for an omelette. a freakin western omelette. It was ok. Nothing special. AN HOUR AND TWENTY MINUTES If i hadn't invested so much time there, i would have left at the hour mark. I will not be going back. read more

Cabot Street and me, we're just getting to know each other. I've driven along it hundreds of times, yet only recently exited my vehicle to see what it has to offer. Enter: Marika's. I first visited with my husband right before xmas, meeting friends who were big fans of the place. I was pleased/impressed to see that they were obviously known by the owners, and I love that caring interest -- that /actual/ interest -- that the best business owners have towards their clientele. It's totally a home-style joint in the best possible way. Since then I've been in a handful of times for breakfast and today for lunch, and the food's been consistently good, nourishing, and obviously cooked with care... But today, today I looked up at the specials board and saw goulash beaming back at me..! And it was as good as the goulash I lived on when I was in Vienna for a week, and I sort of wish I'd gotten a second order for takeout so I could be eating it right now. Sigh. read more

Some people say I am too picky when I go out to eat, but in actuallity I only have 4 Rules 1. The Restaurant must be clean. 2. Hot Food Hot, Cold Food Cold 3. Staff should be courteous 4. Ordered items should come as ordered I visited Marika's last Sunday and after hearing all the fan fare on yelp I was very optimistic when I arrived... I was very dissapointed when I left.... The staff was good, though a bit disorganized and the restaurant was relatively clean. When my food arrived (French Toast and Sausage) it was stone cold and had this "sauce" on it that had the consistency and color of chocolate milk...When I sent it back I could hear the cook moan...so hopefully it this isn't the norm. At the end of the meal I expected to see my meal removed from the bill for all the trouble...when I got the bill it was there...in fact I was over charged by .50 cents.... I wasn't going to complain about this because ensuring customer satisfaction after an incident falls upon the shoulders of the management. I will not be visiting Markia's again...I will stick to the Depot Diner in Beverly, Brother's in Danvers, and George's in Gloucester. read more

Holy smokes batman...you should have seen the size of my meal at Marika's!! Because there was enough food on my plate too feed three burly lumberjack men. But thankfully I have the freakish stomach size of professional eater. My amazing breakfast platter came with three eggs, a monster load of hash browns, steak(covered in gravy) and side plate of potatoes. My breakfast platter was so massive it had to be lowered with the help of a building crane. I couldn't believe my eyes because it was like love at first site. My CFS was the perfect size(not to big not to small) and the gravy that covered my glorious CFS was seasoned to perfection. I can gladly say those hash browns I had that morning were thee best I have ever had. Because they weren't greasy and must of have been made by heavenly angels. I opted for sunny side eggs and even those were amazing. The side plate of potatoes and gravy were just a added bonus. In fact I even shared them with M'lady because sharing is caring! Believe me if you roll up to Marika's and see a line you know why. Because their food is simply amazing and so are their prices. I couldn't believe that meal was under $10. For the quantity and quality of my breakfast I would have gladly paid more...a lot more! Like M'lady says Marika is a badass and she should think about changing her resturants name too Marika's Badass Breakfast! Again great breakfast, friendly service and cheap prices makes me a repeat offender!!! Marika, you go girl!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Great place for breakfast & lunch. The pancakes are always good. They have specials. I love seeing peach & walnut pancakes on the board. The owner is very personable. Cash only. I would recommend this great little restaurant. read more

My friend Bethany and I came here nearly every day one summer. We made friends with Marika and love the gossip she'd spin for us. She'd talk about her night at Kitty's or the 23 y/o chasing her--what fun! She told me I could order the french toast vegan, but after a few times eating it I think she was mistaken. I'm pretty sure they use powdered egg, which is actually made from eggs but are not fresh. I am not one of those vegans who gets all fussy over mistakes--so after ordering it three times in a row I marked it on my Oops, and ordered the oatmeal or something. I'd still go to Marika's as they have a fun staff, veggie burgers and fake sausage (could have egg, as it tastes like morning star), its just one of those places that you can feel at home, even if the food is not 100%. read more

What a treat! We had breakfast this morning and absolutely enjoyed every single thing we ate. Highly recommend anything with a poached egg, and the home fries are to die for. Marika has the most incredible personality and sense of humor. Can't wait to be back read more

Cute little place in downtown Beverly. Very friendly staff. Food was decent. Had a delicious pancake. Eggs were so-so and bacon wasn't great. Home fries were ok and toast was perfect. Tea and OJ - perfect. Over all decent but I probably won't be back anytime soon. Too many places near by that are significantly better. read more

The best breakfast place in town, by far! This place is excellent! They have great specials and huge pancakes. The food is top-notch and the service is great. The diner/restaurant has a great atmosphere, too. The food can be a little slow, so plan accordingly. I usually take this time to actually talk with whoever I am dining with. The prices are competitive, too. read more

The rule for having a really good Marika's experience is don't go during a busy time. Pretty simple rule. You will be tempted to break this rule but don't. We go during the week when we happen to have a day off. We always get stellar service and our food is done right. That being said, Marika is the epitome of the stereotypical (archetypal?) German grandma. That is to say, don't expect special treatment, you might be the customer, but clearly, you are not always right. Do not ask for substitutions or extra plates for splitting your meal. Read the damn menu and comprehend it. It is what it is, no exceptions. Leave your special snowflake status at the door. If you cop an attitude, you will get it back. You want to split your meal? Get it to go. Realize that if you break the rule for a good Marika's experience that you will experience long waits, 45 min to an hour is not unheard of, longer on holiday weekends. Also be aware that the quarters are tight, they have seating for 36, but holy crisco, it's jammed packed. If you don't like crowds, eat outside or get the food to go. When following the only rule, the food is good and service is good. The hash is really good and made in house with real corned beef, and you can tell. They make it fresh everyday. The coffee is dark roast and strong. It tastes as though she keeps those press pots sparkling clean. Though the place looks a little weathered it was very clean. The prices are high but not out of this world, and not much higher than anywhere else in Beverly. read more

Marika's is my favorite place to eat and I always bring my guests there for breakfast when they visit. The people who run it are such a delight too! The portions always leave me happily full but not overstuffed and the prices are very reasonable. The homefries are the best I've had! I'm headed there later and look forward to what is on the specials board! ps: Don't forget to bring cash. read more

This is one of my favorite breakfast places in the area. It's cozy with great food and really nice staff. There's not a whole lot of variety on the menu, but they have all the breakfast/brunch staples, make them really well, and at low prices. I'll be going again :) read more

Marika's - A special: French toast stuffed with fresh blueberries and mascarpone. It was delicious and I vote for it to be added to the permanent menu! - Breakfast & Brunch Near Me - Beverly, Massachusetts

Marikas is the type of place one just doesn't see these days. Not in the States anyway. It's small, family run. with excellent quality food. Comfort is what it's all about. Some others have decried the leisurely pace. They are missing the point. Without a doubt, it is unapologetically relaxed. If you want fast food go to MacDonalds. If you revel in creative delicious breakfast combinations, clever twists on old favorites and the kind of familiar friendly charm that you just don't see here these days. Marikas is your type of establishment. read more

Love this place for breakfast on weekends. go before 10 am if you want to get a table on the weekend. the place is small and fills up quickly. Marika's has really great breakfast. on weekends they serve specials as well which are made to order and always homemade. Crisp Saturday morning and we stopped in to Marika's for breakfast. Carrot pancakes? Portabello omelet? AMAZING!! Even the two eggs over easy with delicious home-fries was savory good. I felt like I was eating brunch in a posh hotel in New York. the food was really, really good. We overheard the table next to us oohing and ahhh over the french toast, so got an order for "dessert" (yeah its possible at breakfast) and we were yumming our way to happiness. Most of the breakfast came home because we were so stuffed. Mushka the owner was a delight, telling us about her german specials on Thursday nights.
