Stopped in to place an order at 5:45 pm I ordered two taco baskets, they were not busy, there was group of 7-8 people and one other. Groop that was family or related. Another customer came in and placed an order 10 minutes after me. He sat down as I was waiting for my order another customer came in and picked up his takeout and left about 20 minutes after they called out an order and I thought it was mine and I went to the counter she said it was the other customers ( the one that placed his order ten minutes after me) so I sat back down and waited. it was about 45 minutes after I placed my order a young man who was setting tables up in the dinning area with other family members approached me and asked what I ordered I told him, he went behind the counter where no one was only the cooks in the back. he asked them and they said we don't have any order for taco baskets. I could see a bag on the counter below the shelf with the heat lamps. I asked the young kid, he said no that's not it without looking. then the woman who took my order came out from the office and grabbed the bag and bought it to the pay counter, the boy asked what hot sauce I wanted as I was checking to make sure it was what I ordered, it was then I felt the tacos and they were as cold as if they came out of the fridge. So my order has been setting on that back counter till it got cold while I could have been waiting for even more if I wasn't asked. For not being busy to forget about a customers order shows how incompetent this business is I would not want to dine in if they were busy and what they may forget then. There was no excuse for it. I told them the food is cold and that they were a f-n joke and left. I will never recomend Maria's to anyone. You know the old saying bad business travels farther and faster then good business and it will, I will make sure of it. read more

Don't bother asking for chips and salsa waitress gets chips off buffet that are stale from sitting out and Salsa is just a red sauce in a ketchup bottle. I think waitress should inform customers when they order chips and salsa what to expect. Tacos were just okay but the rice and beans were perfect!! They have a buffet. Seems like all the customers were getting the buffet but I can't tell you how good it was. Dinning room could use a good cleaning. Bathroom was gross there was a ton of ants. Maria's does not look the greatest, that your first clue, run. If you enter and make it to a seat, you'll notice that the place is not only run down but it's not the cleanest of restaurants. After being seated we were served chips and two bowls. I asked the waiter where was the salsa, since the bowls were empty. He pointed to the ketchup bottle on the table and said we only have red sauce. Another clue. I asked the waiter about the chimichanga. However, we ended up ordering a Mexican combo plate which consisted of four items plus rice and beans. My guest received her food in about 10 minutes, and then I waited. I waited 15 minutes before asking about my order. The waiter became upset stating they short on help and the cook was new. My order came it was the wrong order, a chimichanga. I ate it, paid the bill and left. Folks, there were clues all along, even on Yelp that I paid no heed to. Drive a little longer, pay a couple of bucks more, and steer clear of this place. read more

Six of us went for breakfast. No complaints. Chicharrónes are amazing! I had a taste for some and they didn't disappoint. We bought spicy pork tamales to go and they're fantastic. Great spice, not dry. Their hot salsa is very good. We're from the Chicago area and we know good Mexican food. We will be back next visit. read more

We just don't have anything good to say about here, except for our waitress, who was very nice. We had the combo platter and steak fajitas. Wife said there was little flavor in her combo platter, and it tasted like leftovers. The steak for my fajitas were like jerky with no flavor. The tortillas were dry and brittle. I (use to) eat here at least 2 times a month. The last time I went the taste of everything was so off. I was confused. I called and talked to the owner (VERY NICE older lady) and she said she knew me from ordering so many time and the next time she would replace my entire order for free. So I called today.....the man/woman rude as hell to me and even yelled at me like I was making this up. Then they (I say man/woman because I couldn't tell if it was a woman or a man. I think it was a woman) said they would only replace ONE thing!! I disagreed!! After a few seconds of back and forth debating about it she/he m hung up in my face!! I called back and a different lady (yes this was a lady) that was nice listened to me and asked me to hold for a minute. Once she put me on hold I hung up. They called me back and I didn't answer. My husband and I have been waiting 20 minutes and all we have gotten was some chips and salsa. Our food hasn't arrived, and there isn't that many people here. My tea hasn't been refilled either. Maria's catered our recent event and the food was wonderful!! We did a nacho bar & they delivered all the food & provided all the serving utensils & plates/napkins. Staff is very friendly & accommodating & went above and beyond for us. I don't know what they do to the jalapenos but they are delicious! Like others have said, the service isn't very good. The food isn't bad, a little bland but that's what you get when you cater to everyone. The buffet is a good value if you can eat a lot. The Maria's fried flour tacos are great, and so are the flautas - they're very generous with the guac. Other restaurants would charge you $5 for the guac alone - which is chunky and not the watery paste you get at other places. There's always plenty of people working but they never stop by your table. They're always sitting in a booth in the corner chatting and eating chips. My other complaint is they don't use home-made tortillas. Charge me 50 cents extra for tacos and use them - I'd never go anywhere else. Maria's does not look the greatest, but the food is great! Do not go into this place expecting taco bell, which is not real Mexican food (and often requires a reminder to those who frequent taco bell). The food is not overly seasoned, but it is good. I always get the cubed beef nachos. The beef is tender and in solid chunks (not ground beef) and is coated in a delicious sauce. You are also served chips and salsa, though the refresher on chips are far and few between. The wait staff is decent/good. They are not overlycheerful, but also not rude either. Takeout is available and is usually a quick option in terms of ordering to actually taking it out. There is also a buffet, though I have not gone that route. I am not the biggest fan of buffets, especially for Mexican food. read more

It's easily the worst Mexican option in Saginaw. They have a buffet but neglect to keep it stocked, so I ended up eating mostly beans and cheese and chips. The service is slow, the food isn't very good, the salsa is lousy, and to top it off, the interior is dirty. The owner seems to wander around and chat with regulars instead of working harder at keeping the buffet running properly. Saginaw has several Mexican options that are much better. I ordered 2 large pan of nacho's for a work function and they were awful. They had beef, tomato, lettuce with barely any cheese on them. I have never had nacho's where there was no cheese. first let me say we chose Maria's because yelpers rated it so highly, but... I got the cheese and onion enchiladas because I don't like meat and that was the ONLY vegetarian choice. They were OK but not spectacular, but I did love those beans, smoky and probably lardy, but wonderful. Rice quite plain and tasteless. Mild salsa quite good, with a little hot mixed in but i couldn't decide if the chips were store bought or house fried. Now hubby was the down side. He ordered the chik. fajitas and, in his words- disappointed, had better, they just didn't taste right. He loved my enchiladas, just to give the place a little credit. But after he got home, he was definitely sick; all the symptoms of food poisoning. With that "special coating" on the chik in the fajitas, that is probably the culprit. The service was sporadic, had to go ask for our bill and a box. Almost had to beg for our drink refill. So obviously, we would not go again! We wanted to try this Mexican Restaurant out and I was super pleased I had the dinner buffet the wife had a Taco Salad. The buffet items were plentiful and tasty and I just loved it.To me it reminded me of Tex-Mex I had in Texas with all the spices and aromas I was so used to. First impressions upon walking in- very dirty, my husband and I had a hard time finding a clean table to sit at. We looked at the buffet before ordering but the food looked old so we passed. The homemade guacamole was bland, could have used more seasoning. The chips were obviously store bought and tasted the stale. I'm always on the lookout for good Mexican restaurants, especially authentic ones. I tried Maria's on my parents' recommendation and I just have to say I was seriously unimpressed. The good parts about Maria's are the fact that they generously heap on the cheese and the enchilada sauce has a good flavor. However the downsides are definitely the chips and salsa - the chips tasted slightly rancid, possibly out of a bag, and the "salsa" was in a ketchup squeeze bottle and had almost no flavor. The decor was lacking, which I can overlook, but the overall place just seemed like it needed a good deep cleaning. To make matters worse I felt pretty queasy when I went home; I'm not sure if it was because the overload of cheese (which normally doesn't bother me) or because the kitchen was unsanitary as the dining room. read more
