Absolutely the best Maria was outstanding with her alterations to my suit Nice storefront location that also serves as their private residence but you do not get that feel at all Two very happy terriers to meet you read more

January 2, 2026 so now, it's $20 to hem 1 pair of jeans!! Geez-us! It was $11. Quite the INCREASE huh Maria?! Lady, I KNOW thread isn't THAT costly and you've got no overhead because it's your home. This is just advantageous because she has a captive island clientele. I just spent my last dollar here. I'll drive to League City dry cleaners where I've been sending my dry cleaning for 13 years. FYI Galveston dry cleaners charge outrageous prices just like Maria. 2 stars because she does a good job I just don't like her business ethic read more

Really quick turn around. I have had several formal's hemmed. My husband had a suit alternating and it looked like it was custom made. As well as other things. Never disappointed. Never had to go back and forth because it was not correct the first time.(which I had to do with other alterations done in town before) . Her prices our worth the money.. read more

Spectacular pricing. Good work and friendly service. Got it done quick. Thanks so much

They are pricey and can improve their attitude towards the costumers. They look always angry to the point that they don't even look at you. Horrible experience. read more

Maria is not friendly. She seems unhappy :/ she rolled her eyes at me. She also charges high prices compared to other alterations places here. I don't recommend this business read more

Very friendly. Quality of work is great. Service time was delivered as promised. It is also good to help support local businesses

Asked for patches to be sewn on a military uniform. Explained upon drop off they must be 1/2 inch from the shoulder seam. When I picked up the jacket the patches were one inch from the shoulder seam and not in accordance with the regulation. She offered an excuse that it was too hard for her machine to get through the material so she sewed them on in the wrong location. She had my phone number, but didn't bother to call to see if the change was acceptable. Now I'm going to another place to get the patches sewn on correctly. read more

Maria, Is simply the best on the Island! Excellent job with quick reliable service at a reasonable cost !

I recommend Marie's alterations to all my friends. She is kind and efficient and meets all her deadlines.

Husband is nice. Maria is rude! Very high in cost. Do not come here. She complains what you want to altered and what you want to taken up and fixed. read more

Called her before showing up Friday and she said my pants would be ready on Saturday if I dropped it off Friday morning. It Sunday and I came to pick it up and nothing was done! She didn't apologize and the guy was so rude! He literally just said "here you go" and walked off. No I am sorry can I do anything! Please don't waste your time here read more

I had an emergency alteration situation and Maria came to the rescue! I needed just one pair of pants hemmed and she did a phenomenal job in less than 15 minutes! Absolutely recommend! read more

She is the best, and at a good price. She is kind and friendly. I highly recommend her and her services.

Everyone recommended Maria's when I asked where a good local tailor was... well add me to that list when someone else asks now! I dropped off a dress on a Friday afternoon after she pinned it all up, and since I was in no rush, she told me to come back anytime the next week. I still thought that was pretty quick! I come home, try on my dress, and it's as if it were custom made for my body. She did SUCH a fabulous job and was such a pleasure to do business with! So quick, and such wonderful work. Thank you Maria! (Bonus points: she has a friendly dog and multiple cats that you can love on when you go!) This was the first, and the only place I'll be using for alterations from here on out while living here. read more

The BEST on the Island! Quality work and fast turn around to meet your needs! Maria greets you each time!

I needed 2 long dresses altered asap. They did them perfectly. I never expected them done that well under the time constraints!!!

I referred a colleague for alterations for a formal dress. She was very happy with the results and interactions for the process.

Great alteration of my dress and very good turnaround time. It is reasonably priced and easy to visit Ms. Maria.

My family uses Ms Maria. She is our go to for our last minute quick fixes to our alteration. I also plan to use her for sewing patches.

They are quick, the quality isn't any better than anywhere else I've been for alterations , and they are trying to nickel and dime you here. They will charge you for services that were never rendered and have hidden costs and fees that they will not disclose you even if specifically asked. I will not be returning read more

I took a pair of pants here recently to shorten them up and get them hemmed. I dropped by on a Saturday. Maria and another worker had me try on the pants and measured me to make sure I was getting the best fit. They were both really friendly and accommodating. I returned on Tuesday to pick them up. Perfect! It was $11 to hem about a couple inches off of my pants. There are a few furry friends hanging around the shop too. I'll definitely be taking my dress clothes here in the future! read more

Shorten ball gown and repair tear in skirt. Maria is always pleasant and easy to work with!

Well, they're OK they're kind of pricey and I waited a week to get my stuff sewn in. They have never done it so when I went in there, they did it right there on the spot him. They seem a little busy nice people though if you wanna pay the price, they'll do the job. read more

I took several pairs of trousers to this establishment to be hemmed and have the waist let out and tried on each pair so she could determine the correct adjustments. Upon pickup the trousers were all much too loose in the waist so I took them back and tried on the trousers again. She claimed she would have to put the pants back to their original condition and that my waist must have changed since the initial measurements. I asked her to please split the difference because they were clearly too tight in their original state. On the second try 2 of the 3 pairs fit OK in the waist but one was clearly messed up in the seat. I also think she must have taken offense to my request because in addition to the sub par quality of the work (see photos) compared to the first iteration, she was very standoffish and would not talk to me directly. Her husband(?) had to communicate on her behalf despite her sitting right there watching television. $70 later I must find another tailor to hopefully fix the poor quality work on these high quality trousers. :( read more

I have used Maria's Alterations in Galveston only twice in the many years I've lived on this island, and both times were for some last minute adjustments and embellishments on a Regency era coat (ie Dickens on the Strand clothing). Both times it was apparent that Maria and her team were extremely skilled. From detail work to run of the mill hems, I was extremely pleased with the result. And if there's ever anything that is not up to par in your mind, Maria never hesitates to make it right. PLUS, I have always left the store thinking that I grossly underpaid for truly amazing results. read more

This is a small business that delivers an excellent service.I dropped off 5 pair of pants to be cuffed. Not a difficult job as alterations go, but a necessary one. Was measured for correct length and picked them up 3 days later. Price was very reasonable, pants on hangers and protected by plastic bag. Will use again. read more

I used Maria's Alterations because of the good Yelp reviews. Her service is commendable. I had her fit a blazer to me. The turn around time was less than 1 week and the cost was very much fair. The blazer fits perfectly and Ms. Maria has good attention to detail because the blazer has a striped pattern to the fabric and Maria matched the stripes up perfectly. Kudos! FYI 1) Maria takes these forms of payment: credit cards and cash 2) Maria's business is located in the rear portion of her home. - You drive to the side of the home where the garage is located, park on the street and when you enter through the white metal door you will probably be greeted by Maria's husband and/or her very friendly dogs. read more

Have used her several times - always pleasant, professional and perfect. Cannot overemphasize ON TIME!!!! If it's possible, she will get it to you when you need it - being reasonable, of course. I'm going there tomorrow and later in the week. Very sure of another positive experience. read more

Maria has a great little shop, she's a hidden gem. The shop is in a residential neighborhood in the back of a house, but the entrance to the shop is clearly labeled. If it says open, she's there. She did alterations on a formal dress for me in a matter of days and it was perfect. Will definitely be bringing her more things from now on! read more
