Really quick turn around. I have had several formal's hemmed. My husband had a suit alternating and it looked like it was custom made. As well as other things. Never disappointed. Never had to go back and forth because it was not correct the first time.(which I had to do with other alterations done in town before) . Her prices our worth the money.. read more

Asked for patches to be sewn on a military uniform. Explained upon drop off they must be 1/2 inch from the shoulder seam. When I picked up the jacket the patches were one inch from the shoulder seam and not in accordance with the regulation. She offered an excuse that it was too hard for her machine to get through the material so she sewed them on in the wrong location. She had my phone number, but didn't bother to call to see if the change was acceptable. Now I'm going to another place to get the patches sewn on correctly. read more

Called her before showing up Friday and she said my pants would be ready on Saturday if I dropped it off Friday morning. It Sunday and I came to pick it up and nothing was done! Everyone recommended Maria's when I asked where a good local tailor was... well add me to that list when someone else asks now! I dropped off a dress on a Friday afternoon after she pinned it all up, and since I was in no rush, she told me to come back anytime the next week. I still thought that was pretty quick! I come home, try on my dress, and it's as if it were custom made for my body. She did SUCH a fabulous job and was such a pleasure to do business with! So quick, and such wonderful work. They are quick, the quality isn't any better than anywhere else I've been for alterations , and they are trying to nickel and dime you here. Well, they're OK they're kind of pricey and I waited a week to get my stuff sewn in. They have never done it so when I went in there, they did it right there on the spot him. They seem a little busy nice people though if you wanna pay the price, they'll do the job. read more

I took several pairs of trousers to this establishment to be hemmed and have the waist let out and tried on each pair so she could determine the correct adjustments. Upon pickup the trousers were all much too loose in the waist so I took them back and tried on the trousers again. She claimed she would have to put the pants back to their original condition and that my waist must have changed since the initial measurements. I asked her to please split the difference because they were clearly too tight in their original state. On the second try 2 of the 3 pairs fit OK in the waist but one was clearly messed up in the seat. I also think she must have taken offense to my request because in addition to the sub par quality of the work (see photos) compared to the first iteration, she was very standoffish and would not talk to me directly. Her husband(?) had to communicate on her behalf despite her sitting right there watching television. $70 later I must find another tailor to hopefully fix the poor quality work on these high quality trousers. :( read more

I took a pair of pants here recently to shorten them up and get them hemmed. I dropped by on a Saturday. Maria and another worker had me try on the pants and measured me to make sure I was getting the best fit. They were both really friendly and accommodating. I returned on Tuesday to pick them up. Perfect! It was $11 to hem about a couple inches off of my pants. There are a few furry friends hanging around the shop too. I'll definitely be taking my dress clothes here in the future! read more

I have used Maria's Alterations in Galveston only twice in the many years I've lived on this island, and both times were for some last minute adjustments and embellishments on a Regency era coat (ie Dickens on the Strand clothing). Both times it was apparent that Maria and her team were extremely skilled. From detail work to run of the mill hems, I was extremely pleased with the result. And if there's ever anything that is not up to par in your mind, Maria never hesitates to make it right. This is a small business that delivers an excellent service.I dropped off 5 pair of pants to be cuffed. Not a difficult job as alterations go, but a necessary one. Was measured for correct length and picked them up 3 days later. Price was very reasonable, pants on hangers and protected by plastic bag. Will use again. read more

I used Maria's Alterations because of the good Yelp reviews. Her service is commendable. I had her fit a blazer to me. The turn around time was less than 1 week and the cost was very much fair. The blazer fits perfectly and Ms. Maria has good attention to detail because the blazer has a striped pattern to the fabric and Maria matched the stripes up perfectly. Kudos! FYI 1) Maria takes these forms of payment: credit cards and cash 2) Maria's business is located in the rear portion of her home. - You drive to the side of the home where the garage is located, park on the street and when you enter through the white metal door you will probably be greeted by Maria's husband and/or her very friendly dogs. read more

Maria has a great little shop, she's a hidden gem. The shop is in a residential neighborhood in the back of a house, but the entrance to the shop is clearly labeled. If it says open, she's there.
