This is the worst Mariano's I've ever had the displeasure of walking into. I called ahead to see if they could transfer me to the gelato shop because I wanted to get a certain flavor for my grandpa. They had me on hold for SO LONG that I was STILL on hold when I walked into the store. I walked up to the Vero counter and the woman behind the counter just walked away after having seen me. I had to ask one of the gentlemen from the hot foods area to scoop my gelato for me. Then when I walked up to the small express checkout by the gelato, and the one cashier walked away while the second one stood there chatting with her other coworker who must've been on break. The first cashier finally came back from pretending she wasn't on the register and then proceeded to charge me incorrectly for the gelato. The only good part about this store is that I didn't have to go in more then three feet to experience all of this suffering. I will never come to this store again. read more

For the people commenting on the layout and how other Mariano's are better: do you not realize how fast the turn around was from When it was Jewel?? No kidding it's not like the others...I'm sure they're working on it and just wanted to get it opened for business. I just moved to Rosemont the day this location opened and I was sooo happy when I found that out! I've been here about 7 times in the last month. I love all their organic and natural choices and I'm obsessed with their own Roundy's brand. it's a more affordable organic option without all the chemicals and GMOs all these other corporations use. It's so easy to find what you're looking for even if you have no idea where to find it. The first time I was there I spent almost 2 hours walking slowly through the isles getting a feel for what products they have and just strolling around. Service: Last night I was asked by 7 different employees if I needed help finding something. Not in a pestering way, but in a genuinely helpful way. All of them told me to have a good night when I declined their offer. These are young kids working at a new place and it's probably their first job! Give these kids a break. They're still learning their system. And my guess is the employees that past reviews were referring to were probably fired. read more

Every time I go here for lunch I become increasingly disappointed with the customer service. Especially behind the deli and cold meals counter. On multiple occasions they have been rude and understaffed. So you have to not only wait more than 15-20 mins(which takes a considerable amount of time from your lunch break), when you do get served you are treated with attitude, looks, and extremely slow service. So don't bother and waste your money on overpriced dried out meals here. I'm so glad more Angelo Caputo's are popping up in the Chicagoland area. read more

I come here daily for lunch. Great salad bar and hot food bar, always clean. Nice and friendly staff, located across the street from my work. Nothing more convenient . The grocery portion of the store is fairly priced, similar to Safeway or Dominick's, great produce and just added a fresh juice bar. read more

People begged Mariano's to open this location as soon as possible. Closing date was 12/28/13. The opening date was 2/18/14. Therefor, there was not much time to completely setup this location. A very friendly & knowledgeable employee by the name of Erin (at the wine bar) explained that the Park Ridge location is working on adding an oyster bar, expand the sushi and smoothie bar, as well as re-arrange some departments. Be patient people! The only reason for the missing star is the fact that they are missing some very important organic items that are offered at the nearby Harwood Heights location. For example, no Roundy's brand organic frozen vegetables and fruit. BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! I am truly surprised by this just based on the fact that Park Ridge folks are known to buy lots of organic foods. The wine bar is awesome and Erin rocks it! Her customer service is outstanding. She is truly a gem at Mariano's :-D A flight of wine is $10, beer is $3 and you can choose any "Create Your Own 6-Pack" option out of the cooler if you do not like the selection at the wine bar, free meat & cheese platter that you can nibble on. You can also choose any wine off of the shelf to buy and drink it at the bar. And you can buy some dinner and bring it to the bar to have a drink. For it being "Park Ridge" severely disappointed in this Mariano's. It's the smallest one I've ever been in. They don't offer to cook cook meats and fish and the deli section is about HALF of the size of the countless others I've been in. Trust me, drive the extra 5 minutes to the Harwood Heights location. What does this Mariano's not have? I've been here for lunch, for an afternoon smoothie or coffee, to grocery shop, and even to study! They have a great selection of foods and walking through the store is a pleasant experience because everything is organized and good looking. I also love their dining area, especially the upstairs. It is quiet and nice for having a quick meal or for studying. The juice bar. Omg. If you like Jamba Juice or another basic smoothie place like that, you HAVE to try this- it'll change your life. The smoothies taste REAL. Perfectly creamy and rich yet fresh! The reason I gave this place 4 stars is because of the prices. The awesome atmosphere does not come at no cost, things that are not on sale are heavy wallet hitters. Its Dominick's 2.0! I mean its a guys name for a store... again! First, the positive. A larger selection of organic food! Dominick's was horrible with that but Mariano's knows their target market well: the question is, do they care just enough to fool the consumer, or do they care to the point where their ideals show through in their ingredients, the companies they choose to work with, etc. So far I do not agree with most of their ingredients in their selection of meals. There is no need to use dough conditioners in bread that are used to make synthetic rubberized yoga mats. The list goes on but this is a review, not a consumer lesson on ingredients, that is a tool for those who choose to pursue it. But if you are one who enjoys the fabled bliss of ignorance, then by all means, enjoy it while you can. Food by the pound is overly inflated, so the buffet system fails to be true to its content. Seeing as how the past market in Dominick's didn't always include people with big wallets, I say this is a loss for them. This system works in the downtown Chicago area, when I lived there nearby, but not so much on the border of Park Ridge. The most important thing for a grocery store is the level of happiness of its employees. In this day and age where minimum wage can barely cover housing costs, I would say that how much the company will give back to the foundation of its existence (the workers), is most apparent in the energy levels and how much that comes onto the customers to have a positive experience. When I went there, the workers seemed numb, but thats normal, its a 'normal' job. Some looked very happy to work there, most just treated it as another job, which is, again, normal. At the end of the day, what are you looking for? A place to support the organic movement? A place to get the best food (most nutritious) for the best price? A place to get more of a selection even if all the companies that the grocery chain will work with usually are all owned by a single parent company? A place to get cheap food? Or just a fancy place that puts all its earnings to make itself flashy, just for YOU! read more

This review concerns the catering and lunch and learn offered by the store's dietician. The Yelp Elite party at Mrs. Green's Natural Market had us run around the store in a sort of treasure hunt gathering answers to clues. I administer a health and wellness program at work and thought such a treasure hunt would be great for my office! I emailed Mariano's with a proposal. They didn't like my idea. Booooooh! But they did offer to do a lunch and learn on any topic I wanted. Oh boy! They closed off a section of the cafe seating upstairs and set up a cooking demo lead by their dietician Peggy and her staff complete with free samples. I chose the topic of good carbs vs. bad carbs. Peggy chose awesome recipes to share and demo and gave the group valuable handouts. The whole thing took about 30 minutes and cost my company nothing. I had also set up catering with Josie for the event. They didn't have a whole bunch to choose from that I considered healthy (they need to work on that) but I found what I could. It was all excellent and everyone loved it! Josie set up everything on time and gave us to go containers as we had a lot of food left over. I couldn't believe how smoothly everything went considering we were their first catering customers under the Mariano's name. I am loving the new trend of dietitians in grocery stores. It shows their concern for the community and goes beyond what we think of and expect from a traditional grocery store. It's like Whole Foods luxury for everyone. I thought I'd miss this Dominick's at Cumberland and Higgins in Park Ridge for its size, ample parking and location. In fact, I'm so happy with the Mariano takeover. I want to say, "Thank you!" It's much better, actually. Since the opening and expanding of this grocery store, I've been to quite a few different Mariano locations in the NW suburbs. There are obvious consistencies and inconsistencies with each market place. Isn't that the way it is with any franchise? Every time I'd be at the store, I would stop by the Deli and be disappointed. In the past, there was not one selection that appealed to me. I will never buy anything that is smothered in mayonnaise. Present day, my luck has changed with noticeable improvement with their salad selection in the Deli. I absolutely love, Love, LOVE their Sundried Tomato Kale salad. It's amazing how a good tasting salad can turn anyone who doesn't regularly eat healthy into someone willing to pay $9 for a lb of tomatoes and kale. read more

For some reason, the customer service at this store is lacking. I'm not sure why as I have experienced excellent customer service at other Mariano's stores. For customer service, my rating is 3-stars. My review will be regarding their Gelato. Gelato is made with only five to eight percent milk fat, making it a healthier alternative. My two faves are mango and coconut. The Gelato is worthy of 5-stars. Most of all, it is all of the wonderful crazy cacophony of flavors that makes the Gelato amazingly delicious! I enjoyed a medium mango Gelato over the weekend. They have excellent Gelato which is refreshing on a warm muggy summer day. If you haven't tried their Gelato yet give it a try. They also offer a "mini" size which is the perfect size for me, but this weekend for the first time, I had a "medium" Gelato. It was/is very reasonably priced, and a very good value. Gelato is churned differently than ice cream and contains less air. Despite its lower fat content, Gelato boasts a creamy consistency. When it is done right, it is thick, dense and elastic, which is the case at Mariano's, but what truly distinguishes Gelato is its taste. There is no comparing it to ice cream or frozen yogurt, because this Gelato is in a class of its own. read more

Lots of nice deli, sushi and hot food to go. I really enjoyed the spinach, kale and mushroom dish. The roaster squash was also pretty good. The Polish sausage was so-so.Staff are very friendly and polite. One of the absolute worst Mariano's. My first mistake was ordering a pizza. The lady at the counter told me it would take 40 minutes to bake the pizza. I know it doesn't take that long for a pizza. I literally told her I know she just doesn't want to make the pizza. She wouldn't budge so I called the manager over. He was shocked she told me 40 minutes. I liked this store and it was a lot bigger than I thought it would be. It had everything that I needed. I'm not sure if I would go here for the special rare ingredients that you would need for certain meals, but this place had all the regular stuff, just better quality. I absolutely love doing my groceries here. The selection is great and so is the quality. I also love the salad bar selection to the hot bar. If you want pizza, they have a station making that. In the mood for sushi, there is another station where they're make it in front of you. Or if you are looking for a fresh squeezed juice they make that also at the juicing station, with a Mariano's card after your 10th juice you get the 11th free. If you order meat from the meat station, they will cook it for you. The customer service here is also great, the employees are always willing to above and beyond. read more

This is my local Mariano's. Coming from Roscoe Village, where a new Mariano's was built a couple years back, I was excited to hear the Dominicks was being converted. While I do enjoy the typical Mariano's offerings, including a gelato bar, this location falls short in some respects. For example, the olive bar is just incorporated into the cold salad bar. If you want specific olives, to the deli counter you will go. There also isn't a wood burning pizza oven that other locations have. Basically, it feels like a Dominick's converted to a Mariano's, not just a stand alone Mariano's, if that makes sense. I knocked off a star for these issues. However, Mariano's does a lot right. I love their cheese section and the above mentioned gelato bar where you can buy a small size with 3 flavors for $1.25. They also have a huge hot/cold bar where many people go for lunch from nearby offices, and where people grab dinners after work on their way home. There is also a wine bar located in the alcohol section of the store. Believe it or not, the seats are always filled, even on a random Tuesday night. Not sure I'd decide to enjoy a glass of wine at the Mariano's bar, but hey, to each his own. Finally, I am continually impressed by the workers at Mariano's. They are always courteous, efficient, and friendly. I've never once had an unpleasant experience. I'll continue to shop at this location, but am hoping for some truly Mariano's updates soon. read more

This Mariano's is and always will be our go to grocery store. But tonight we witnessed the weirdest display of unprofessionalism, enough for me to write my first yelp review. My husband and I were buying some groceries and a few bottles of wine. The cashier was under 21 so she needed assistance. She called for a +21 rep to check our ID's and ring up the alcohol. As we were waiting, and waiting, we noticed that every single employee working on a Friday at 6:30 pm was under 21 years old. And just about every customer was buying alcohol. Each of the lines were held up because of alcohol purchases. The cashiers were continuously paging someone to come check ID's and help with the alcohol purchases. As a last resort, the young cashier paged "Jason the manager", who came out of his office, starred her down from across the store, and proceeded to act if he was not only superior to her but too good to help the paying customers check out. After "Jason the manager" got paged another +21 woman came over and made the cashier feel that she did something wrong for paging him. At the end of the day, it is NOT that we had to wait to purchase our alcohol, it was a Friday night where our only plans were to cook dinner and drink wine. It was that "Jason the Manager" felt that he was too good to help out his employees. read more

My first Mariano's. I wanted to see what the fuss is about. I don't see anything exciting or special. It's just another grocery store. Yes they do have a few 'clean' products but do does Jewel. This store is clean & we'll stocked. One thing - they sell mini cups of gelato/sorbet for $1.00. Score! It's all nice. I would shop if i needed to pick something up & a location happened to be in front of me but I won't be going out of my way to go shopping at Mariano's. read more

4 stars for the selection and convenience, 0 stars for service. First time we went there, we signed up for the card and the terminal froze up. The front desk service manager came over and Is like oh they shut down overnight it will be stuck like this until then. Then my wife demanded it be restarted because it had our personal info on it. The manager complains that they have to stay here to fix this and says I have to be somewhere. Very rude. They just unplugged the terminal after 45 minutes of waiting. Second time workers are texting on their phone walking in front of us and we are trying to walk around them but they took up the whole isle when we say excuse me they look back and walk in front of us so we can't get through. Third time we went to check out and my wife hose debit and I saw she selected no cash back but yet after the guy did the transaction she got 60$ cash back for some reason. All he said was oops. I am pleased to report that this new Mariano's grocery store is like the other locations that we have visited: it offers exceptional customer service and a great selection of organic and natural products - as well as a quality line of generic items. I am willing to pay more for these services, the selection, the pharmacy, and the politics of this local chain, but usually it ends up being not much more because the prices and sales are very reasonable. I price shop as well as use coupons, so I am very keen on local pricing. You can add coupons directly to your rewards card, and Wednesdays are double coupon days (up to $5; ). The only suggestion I have (this far) for this location is to install more cart corrals in the outdoor parking lot. I was, however, pleasantly surprised when a kindly employee walked to my car and returned mine for me (I have a small child; it was raining; and there was not one near my car). read more

Although it is not the beautiful new building in Harwood Heights this Mariano's does not disappoint. I feel it unfair to judge based on the building alone as most of us know they inherited the Dominick's building and glad someone took it over. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I find the same things I would at any other Mariano's. I love that they have a Nob's Wine bar, oyster bar, seafood and sushi bar, and the usual fun frills of a Mariano's. I recently used their catering services for some Italian beef, meatballs (SO GOOD), and pasta and they did a great job. Food was ready on time and tasted great. Highly recommend their catering services. Very fair prices! read more

Usually I liked this place but last few experiences here were disappointing. Whenever I come there is such a huge line with few cashiers who do their job so painfully slowly. Last time I also tried their self checkout which is no better. The guy who was working at that area instead of subtracting coupon amount added them. After some calculation I figured them out and politely pointed his mistake to which he flatly refused to acknowledge. It left me no other choice but to go to customer service. They fixed the problem for me but whole experience left a bad aftertaste. But their products are still good so three stars. read more

A few complaints that I tried to avoid yelping but the corporate office would not help me. I trusted them with my sons first birthday cupcake cake as i have seen several nice ones on here. We paid almost $90 for it... which is a lot of money for us. I wanted a light blue color writing so you can actually read the cake. This is what they used. Ridiculous... can barely read it. I also asked for paw patrol theme. Also want to add many (not all) employees in this store are miserable and rude and I've caught a few of them fighting in front of customers. Also unrelated topic but had to add, I tried to put my son in the shopping carts but came across several that didn't have working straps to buckle him in. No one would help me. I asked two staff members to find me one with a strap. A customer ended up helping me. Something has to give here at this store as it's so convenient and big that I would love to continue shopping here. read more

The worst run Marianos in the chain. They are not cutomer friendly, and good luck trying to get a readonable answer for things at customer service. I think they just put the Marianos sign over the Dominicks and didn't bother to train the employees on how to deal with customers. The worst ever! Lines are huge- management is rude. I waited in line for 25 minutes during the lunch hour. Checker had to call management twice for people ahead of me in line. Management was slow to respond to her call button on both occasions. Poor checker has to hear the grumblings from customers because the managers run away after pushing a few buttons on the register. There is just not enough check out lines open. Self check out is a hassle if you have a cart full of groceries! read more

This woman looked me up and down as I walked in and as I walked out of the restroom she was gossiping with her coworker referring to me " she's going to hide in there" "why is she even here so early" . She didn't see me walk past but I heard her . This female worker had no manners at all and no people skills .
