This store is much smaller than others in this Kroger chain. So your selection will be a lot more limited if you usually other locations.

Whenever I come here it's always an awkward experience. I mean I start to not go unless I really needed to. Though I do like their gluten free selection. And the employees always walk away from me I always have to chase someone down read more

I loved the Halloween floral contest! Such cute ideas! My custom ordered Thanksgiving centerpiece was beautiful - and I'm sure, about 1/3 what it would have cost at a florist. I was just in this weekend and couldn't believe the roses! What a deal! The produce department is a work of art! read more

Personally, I love Mariano's and get about 90% of my groceries from them. But the location in Gurnee is not one of their best. There are often out of stocks in the produce and meat departments. We eat naturally and don't use a lot of processed or boxed goods. The gluten free, non GMO selection is very small. We frequently have to go to either Mariano's in Vernon Hills (which is majorly out of the way) or we go to local fresh stores / natural food stores to get the rest. I often speak with the manager about out of stocks and they are good about ordering product and calling when it arrives. But it's a lot of extra work for me and as a consumer, I'd prefer they maintained their product stock better. On a special note, their flower selection is excellent. read more

I had the best customer service ever with Bob he went over and beyond to make my experience at Mariano's the best I have ever had at a food store. I want to personally thank Bob for his amazing customer service and thank him for turning my day into such a wonderful day. Karen J read more

What a difference between this Mariano's and the fantastic store in Vernon Hills. This store is lacking in so many things that Mariano's is famous for, including friendly associates. I went to the meat department and a very hyper man behind the counter was unsure where to find the steaks I was looking for. He kept grabbing the wrong things and wasn't a very good listener! I wanted to buy more meat, but was just happy to finally get what I ordered in the first place. As I walked away, he apologized to another customer who was waiting, saying "I'm sorry if that lady cut in front of you." She told him that I was there before she got there, but he kept on apologizing. I was about to turn around and say something, but decided to just walk away. I will definitely walk away from this Mariano's. Even though it's out of my way, I'm going to stay loyal to the Vernon Hills store. read more

I'm baffled by the low rating of this Mariano's! It's in Gurnee, people. The next best thing to Mariano's is the jewel down the street and it's the saddest grocery store I've ever been into! I'm obsessed with this Mariano's. So many departments. the salad bar is killer- my only complaint is that they don't have salad bar punch cards, I would fill that sucker up in a week! read more

Very bad experience at the coffee counter the other day, i went in to grab a latte and the coffee bar manager was talking to an employee, neither of them made and move to help me or even acknowledge me other than the manager telling me that "someone would be right with me" and they both continued to talk about a clearly un-work related subject, I waited for about 5 minutes and was going to say something until the smoothie girl came over to take my order and make my drink, she was very polite and helpful but it bothered me to see her having to run back and forth between the coffee and smoothie bars. I asked her if she had to do both a lot and she said that it was no big deal and she was used to doing both, that really made me mad, it's not fare that this young girl is doing both jobs while the manager just stands around and talks while probably making double what the girl makes! I hate seeing a company over work their employees that way and until this is resolved I won't be giving Mariano's gurnee any of my money! That manager should be ashamed of herself and the other managers sound be to for letting that go on under their watch read more

Mariano's is pretty solid. However, this location sucks. The biggest issue is the produce dept. All of the produce is 1-2 days from being spoiled. Everything is bruised and beat up. If you want fresher food and much better liquor selection go to the Vernon Hills location. read more

This used to be my favorite store. My wife and I enjoyed going there to grab a salad or quick dinner. However the store seems to be suffering these days from poor management. The soup area seems to be a complete mess on most days, the salad bar prices went up but the quality went way down and most of the people behind the counter seem pretty surly these days. Also good luck finding a short check out line during the busy lunch/dinner rush. The management of the store says they are having problems hiring people.....Really? read more

Grill took forever to cook my chicken .i was the first person to bring my food to the grill and it took an hour for 2 pieces of chicken . HORRIBLE service !!!!!!! read more

Would give zero stars if that was possible. Called 3x to order a Thanksgiving turkey dinner and every time I was put on hold (no hold music) and nobody ever picked up. Called back and told the associate who answered that after 3x calling, nobody has ever picked up and that I have been on hold forever, she does not even apologize and rudely says hold on a minute and transfers me again, and AGAIN, nobody picks up. I am sitting here timing this last call while typing this and I have been on hold over 18 minutes with nobody picking up. Read the reviews, this place sucks!!!! Go elsewhere! read more

I miss the sushi that Dominicks had at this location. Wish I could find the folks who made it. Bakery had a much better selection also.

This is a Walmart grocery store with a Mariano's sign. I don't understand why this franchise would allow such s low end store to use their name. It has none of the extras you expect from a true Mariano's. I was not impressed when they converted it from the old Dominicks. They did very little renovations. There is no real cafe area or selection of specialty foods. Every time I go in there I come out empty handed. They have none of the specialty items you would expect. Today I was looking for imported holiday candy. The candy isle was tiny and offered the basics. I ended up next door at target where they had 2 double isles of choices. Save yourself a trip and shop elsewhere for groceries. I'm done with this store. read more

I agree with the other 1- and 2-star reviews of this location. I, too, shopped at the one in Vernon Hills, looking forward to the day the Gurnee location would open. Much disappointed that it took so long to reopen to nothing different other than the people and the signage. There is a lack of quality to the produce section, and a lack of quantity in every department. This location has been watered down, using only what was already there as a Dominicks. Items have been left out of my cart after checkout THREE times since opening in July. Most recently, we ordered birthdays cakes for our kids. They were frosting bombs. One was buttercream frosting with yellow cake - sickly sweet frosting the consistency of Crisco, and the other chocolate ganache filling with marble cake. It had so much frosting I couldn't even see the cake. I hope they read the reviews here on Yelp, and improve their quality and service. I don't WANT to shop at Walmart. I don't WANT to shop at Jewel. I want to shop at Marianos in Gurnee and I want them to bring the quality from their other stores HERE. read more

This location is not like the others. Basic produce is not always in stock. When questioned, the answer usually is, the product you are looking for will be here tomorrow or the next day. The meat and fresh fish counter can not tell me what some of the offerings are in the fish section. The cashiers seem bothered when you prefer paper over plastic. read more

I'm so glad Mariano's is closer to where I live. I love this place. I love buying fruit here because it's always fresh. I don't usually like buying sushi from a grocery store but they make it there and it's always very delicious. The staff is always friendly and there is never long lines to check out. I'm going to continue to shop here for my groceries. read more

Prefer this location to the Vernon Hills store. The fresh produce section isn't as cramped as it feels in VH. Great selection of vegetarian and specialty items. Not as wide a selection of popular brand name items, which suits me fine since I like to eat more healthy foods. This location still has a live piano player, and hasn't switched yet to the HORRIBLE "music" played at the VH location. Overall less crowded and a more pleasant experience. The pharmacy staff is polite and efficient unlike the nearby Osco pharmacy. read more

One of my customers told me to go here and get a steak sandwich for lunch for $6.00. I was skeptical that for $6 i could get much steak or a decent sandwich but this place is amazing. I walk in(having never been to this store cause i live in wisconsin) and was immediately greeted by a very friendly woman and given fresh squeezed orange juice. Then i walked up to the grill and ordered my sandwiches and the very pleasant man asked how he could customize it for me and said it would be just a few minutes if i'd like to look around. I did look around and holy samples!!! You could have a lovely lunch just walking around for 10 minutes. I found some super cheap $1.00 raspberries that i had to buy(cause it's $1!!!) and then went and got my sandwiches. HUGE Sandwiches. Delicious HUGE Sandwich. As i walked out i was again offered some fresh orange juice for my walk to the car. Super happy with my experience. Will come here for lunch more often. read more

I placed a catering order with the deli to be picked up Saturday morning at 7 am. Heather and Denise did a fantastic job putting the deli trays together for me. Gurnee location I live in the Gurnee community all my life 40 years and shopped at Marianos since they first open . I've never been treated as a thief in my life until I came to this store. I was being followed and watched by the security person the whole time while I'm trynig to get a hot meal. The only thing I did was tried a sample of the rice to check if its stale from my to go box. I talked to the security and store manager and asked why I'm being followed and they were nonchalant and seem to just brush it off about my complain and the store manager said that's his job, so I told him so its okay to treat customers like a thief. Maybe because my skin is brown or I look young for my age, I don't know why I was singled out but I don't need to be treated like a thief. I paid my dues living in this community (property taxes and support the local businesses in the area) and this what I get from this Store. I did talk to the Store Director two days after the incident and he took care of the situation pretty well and will likely go back to the store. no ignorant security guard will stop me from shopping anywhere. read more

Just shopping at the Gurnee store, check out person Barry VERY RUDE!!!!! I said hello, no response. Done paying Barry folded the receipt did not even say thank you would you like some help with your groceries and proceeded to ask his bagger if she was asked to work at the Northbrook location today. Normally I shop at Jewel and from now on that is exactly where I will shop. Barry smiled and was very nice to his co worker when asking her a question. read more

Just got back from Mariano's in Gurnee and need to get this off my chest. I've been a customer since before the beginning, when they were Dominicks. I called this morning to inquire about their lobster tails. I was looking for 4 8 oz. cold water lobster tails for a special dinner. I was told the largest they had were 4 oz. but they had some larger that were warm water tails. Just doesn't make sense to me to spend my money on anything but cold water tails. When I got to the store they had a big sign in front of the meat market which stated they were taking orders for live Maine lobster for 10.00 each. So why couldn't this person inform me of this? After leaving the meat market and walking out I also noticed what other people are talking about " How dirty the produce dept. was" . Driving home I got more irate as I went along prompting a phone call to "Chris" the store manager. After a brief description of the above his best response was " Huh? Well what is that you want?" It's plain to see that Bob Mariano is no longer running this store, he would never let this happen to any store with his name on it!!! read more

This Mariano's is not very busy for a reason. Just overall not run well. Employees that one would consider professionals such as managers and butchers are not very helpful at all. Case and point. Their meat selection most rave about is no better than Jewel's and the butcher is useless. For instance their ground beef for $4 a pound was light pink and full of fat - just looked bad and dyed. I looked at the Black Angus which was $4.69 a pound and it looked better but still meh. So as usual as I have done for decades I chose a pot roast to grind. The butcher was there and it was not off hours. I asked for it to be ground. The butcher came out and told me due to the size of the roast it wouldn't fit in the machine (too wide... guess he doesn't have a knife). He also told me the ground meat also wouldn't be able to be extruded. Huh? He said understand? I said no I do not but it sounds like you have a clean grinder and don't want to use it. So off I went with no meat purchased. I bought other items on my list but I won't be returning for any raw meat products in the future. I'll have to plan better and go to the packing house as I usually do or if I'm in a pinch Jewels is the only option. I don't like bs and games. Never ever ever have I heard such a thing. Just lazy read more

I really wish Mariano's would go back through and renovate the gurnee location. This Mariano's is nothing like the local Mariano's. Vernon Hills has such a better layout and their produce, especially their organic produce is outstanding. The Mariano's in gurnee has a small organic section and yesterday I went into the gurnee location and the oranges and apples were spoiled. I cannot believe they would keep the spoiled fruit out for purchase. Younger staff are stocking the produce shelves, if you go to Mariano's in VHs. a manager is always stocking along with their team and if you have any questions or concerns manager is right there. I will make the extra drive to Vernon Hills from now on, especially since the sales tax is lower and Vernon Hills has more of a variety. Gurnee Mariano's needs a facelift. The bakery in VHs gets so much more traffic, if the gurnee location moved the bakery or changed the store layout, it would probably get the attention it needs. I'm giving two stars because most staff seem pretty friendly here. read more

My fiance and I used to frequent the Hoffman Estates location, but after moving to Kenosha, we were excited to find a location in Gurnee. We literally left this Mariano's disappointed and frustrated. Sure, the deli and cafe area appear to be traditional to other Mariano's locations, but the grocery, produce, and meat section is just awful. The organic produce, specifically the leafy greens, were rotten and past their expiration. We were forced to purchase non-organic leafy greens. The 4 organic Honey Crisp apples we purchased cost $7.00 and were sour and disgusting. Their cheese selection is much smaller, and we couldn't find the aged cheddar we regularly purchase. As you approach the meat section, the smell of raw meat and decaying animal smacks you right in the face. I have never smelled this anywhere else!! It really took us by surprise and made meat shopping a bit repulsive. They didn't have the selection of cuts that we're use to, so again we settled for something we didn't really want. Their selection of grass-fed and organic meats were ridiculously small. They didn't carry the milk we purchase, and they were out of stock on our organic half and half. The frozen and dry goods section is a joke. Good luck finding anything with their overly crowded, pack rat aisles. In conclusion, their organic selection throughout the entire store is lacking in quality and quantity. Non-organic selection was also lacking dramatically. Prices are typical of other Mariano's locations. We read other reviews and should have taken them seriously. I will be surprised if this location lasts. Even the sign outside makes the place look run down and disappointing. This location left a bad taste in our mouth's (literally). We will never frequent this location ever again. So much for being loyal Mariano's customers of many years. Save your money and time, and go to Woodman's, or anywhere but here for that matter. It's terribly sad when even Walmart has a better organic selection than this grocer. read more

quite disappointing after taking 6 + mos to open. it could be so much better. it's not much different than the dominicks it replaced. the layout in the deli/produce/bakery area is horrible. the service is above average but the store is nothing special. very limited product selection. nothing like the other marianos I've been to. the second time I was there I rec'd rotten wagyu ground beef. the very mediocre deli is the biggest disappointment for me. It's pitiful that they couldn't have done a better job. I'll be passing on this store. read more
