If I could give one star I would. Can't tell you the amount of times I have gotten sick from their food (raw food, not hot bar) because it was not stored or handeled correctly. More often I see the meat within the fridge section have grey, tainted colored meat in addition to swollen packaging (clear sign of bacertia growth) and smell of rotting meat...this is unacceptable when the food is listed at FULL PRICE and not to expire within three days or more. Also don't do pickup orders, you are guaranteed to get something that goes bad in 24 hours that you paid full price for, like milk that spoils the VERY next day. read more

While I usually try to advocate for better reviews I'm rather quite frustrated with this location. The rewards program offers deals off on different items as if you're saving money. I'm starting to find that I'm wasting money as a lot of their marked off goods with the yellow and white stickers are going bad and should be thrown out instead of kept on the floor. This is the 4th time I've purchased meat here and had to either return it or take the loss because I simply don't have time to return the grocery store multiples times for returning bad groceries. I just purchased this ground beef yesterday and I open the fridge this afternoon and it's full blown graying/browning... I will not be purchasing meat or Dairy products from here anymore. I just left Mariano's and i got home to discover that the person who bagged my groceries broke 7 eggs and cracked a few more. I bought (2) 18pk cartons. Of course i checked the eggs before adding them to my cart and none of them were even cracked. I noticed liquid coming from the cartons when i got home and 3 were broken in one pack and 4 in the other. I don't have time in my schedule to return to the store right now and i don't see a place on the receipt to leave a review so here i am. Jada was the cashier. She was great. This store is heading down hill fast, they NEVER have much stock of the sale items, even if you come in on Wednesday (the start of the sale) they are usually out. The produce section is horrible, lots of rotten and/or brown fruit and veggies.The meat section is usually sparse. When you walk the aisle its obvious the store hasnt been stocked recently. I've been coming here for awhile and each time I'm underwhelmed. But today takes the cake. The produce was not fresh. Apples are turning brown. The pre packaged fresh fruit is sold out. I get to the bakery and the muffins look like they forgot to add yeast. Really? You really sell muffins like that? And they looked overcooked. They should go straight to the trash. There is literally no workers to ask where products are and the guy I finally saw had a bad attitude. He acted like the customers were in his way. I couldn't tell if he worked for the store or if he was a vendor , but either way he was rude. And when I say rude, I mean overall demeanor and facial expressions. He didn't say hello. No smile. Nothing. Where are the workers that are happy to be there and love their jobs??? I used to work in retail and I was required to speak to everyone who came in my path! The store overall was a mess! Stuff was everywhere and it is definitely a hazard for customers. Did everybody call off today? Did they quit while they were working?? 1. When I showed up to pick my cake up the writing was sloppy, the cake was lopsided and the colors were terrible. The box wasn't completely closed so I was concerned about the cake being exposed to air. They did not have the correct box to store the cake, they took two cake boxes and taped them together. Spoke to a bakery supervisor who stated she would redo the cake and have it prepared by 3pm. When I picked the cake up at 5 it looked better but was still lopsided and the color was not blended well at the bottom. They also added an inch of icing on the middle of my 5' cake even though I did not request a filling. My son's event was at 4, I was already late so I was unable to wait for them to fix it again. I often pass by this Mariano's all the time without going inside, but today I was starving and had to grab lunch. This place had many more options than I thought (that was a good thing). For 2 bucks I picked up a 8oz soup, and for 7 bucks I grabbed a pretty healthy meal for lunch (4oz chile grilled chicken, grilled asparagus, and roasted carrots). It was nice to have a full and satisfying meal-all I had to do was warm it up at home. And for some bonus points, I found some dark chocolate on sale (which I shall be enjoying later tonight). This location was clean and well lit. When I have more time I would like to walk around more. I saw a Monday special for poke bowls as I was walking out, so I will definitely like to try their sushi options. The line was a bit slow today. I think they you have a few more people staffing the checkout lanes on the weekends. However, it didn't seem like there was a shortage of staff because I saw many employees walking through and doing other tasks in the aisles. Every single time I go into this store, the staff at self check-out have the nastiest attitude when you ask them a question, or for help. I have worked in Customer Service for over 20 years. I would not have lasted at any job if my attitude was as bad as theirs. The managers are overworked, mainly fielding complaints from customer. I had to ask one worker if they have the same bad attitude when they pick up their paycheck. There is one worker, I believe his name is Brian, and he is the shining star amongst the souriest people I have the misfortune of coming into contact with. Plenty of parking, shopping carts, restrooms and of course quality merchandise. I pay attention to everything wherever I spend my money and time. I have been to a lot of different locations and I really appreciate this one the best, bc they're on point with the needs of the consumer. My experiences with the store were all good.Except for the bakery department, they fell short with care and their mannerisms. I purchased a salmon steak from the fish counter Mariano's on 95th street in Evergreen Park, and when I opened the package the steak was rancid. I opened it the evening of the day after I bought it, and it was kept refrigerated. The problem of the salmon steak not being fresh matters, but what really upset me was the service and reception I received when I went to exchange it for another salmon steak. Upon entering Mariano's, I went to the service counter, where a woman told me to take the fish back to the fish counter. At the fish counter, a worker named "Vince" exchanged the salmon steak for another one, which he weighed, wrapped in paper, and gave me. I then went to pick up a few more items and got in line to pay for them. When I reached the cashier, she told me that I had to go to the service desk to "exchange" the salmon. At the service desk, they told me I needed to pay for the difference between the salmon steak I'd originally purchased and the one they'd given me a few moments prior. That seems ridiculous to me, given that salmon steaks are weighed. How would they have been able to exactly find one of the same weight to make an even switch? Or, why not just give me another salmon steak of similar weight for the inconvenience of selling me a rancid - not slightly unfresh, I mean really bad - salmon steak? After telling me I needed to pay, they asked me to identify the woman I'd spoken to when I came in, which I couldn't. So they had me wait while they tried to figure out who had originally told me to go to the fish counter. Why do I have to sort out who is staffing the service desk 30 minutes ago? Then they had me wait more while they called the fish counter, I guess to verify that I wasn't making the whole thing up. Finally, after verifying that I had indeed been to the fish counter, the woman at the service counter just said "ok". At no point did anyone apologize for the wait, for the runaround, for the rotten fish, any of it. Each employee I interacted with was abrupt and seemed to be completely unconcerned about having sold a customer rancid food. read more

What I can't live with is, the one time in I don't know how long that I've asked for cash back, they're now charging a fee. They say it's better than ATM fees, but... I don't get charged ATM fees. I love the fact that this location is open until 10, it's very helpful for me when trying to buy some quick late night items. Sometimes it can get a little pricey for me, but then again I'm not completely upset because I feel like I am paying for the great service as well. There's so much selection to choose from. The aisles specifically for certain foods of certain countries is very unique and helpful when looking for specifics. Every time I go to look at their wine selection, I get overwhelmed but excited because there's always a new wine they're promoting. Also I'm apart of their rewards program, so when checking out and putting in my phone number in the self checkout: there's coupons and deductions to my total which makes me happy! read more

Im a regular shopper here at this store. I'm also temporarily Disabled. I was at the register when I got the urge to go use restroom. The Women's toilet stalls were so filthy and nasty & the Handicap stall the worst with blood on toilet and floor and toilet full of toilet paper. I'm horrified by what's happened to this Mariano's. I used to drive for a half hour to get to this grocery store. It was clean, well organized, great produce, beautiful sushi and helpful staff. All of that is now gone. They redesigned the store. Now the aisles are cluttered like a Walmart or Dollar Store. I needed garlic and was informed that they didn't have it by a brisk and cold staff member who was shuffling produce like a dump truck. I get it's a pandemic, toilet paper and hand sanitizer I can understand, but no garlic? And couldn't the staff member have suggested a jarred or frozen option? I guess she was too busy bruising the berries. I even got "Pick n' Save" bags instead of the Mariano's logo. I know they are both owned by Roundy's but Mariano's was classy. I've been shopping at this Mariano's in EP since they opened. I've noticed over time that the produce has been lacking. Today, many of the shelves and display bins were empty! Why? This was later in the afternoon, so if Sunday's shopping traffic depleted produce there would have been enough time to restock. I love this store. The salad and hot bars are wonderful for lunch break (the creamy balsamic dressing on the salad bar is unbelievable), the employees are great, and the cheese and beer sections make this Minnesota/Wisconsin transplant happy. I love the international section, too, and just noticed today that a bunch of the regular items on the shelves have new lower prices. And there are always plenty of items on sale, but the slightly cheaper Roundy's brand stuff (staples like butter, milk, rice, cheese) is never disappointing. This is a chain, so you know what to expect! However, the reason I love Mariano's is that damn hot bar, but ESPECIALLY loooove getting my fresh fish grilled right in front of me (see photo previously posted). I am updating this review based on some things that have happened in the last couple of years or so since the grand opening. Despite assurances that the quality of selection especially the fresh organics would remain intact, unfortunately, since Mariano's was purchased by Kroger, - in recent months, many have found that the quality of food is not the same. And especially with regard to the abundance of organics that first drew me to the store a few months ago. In the last couple of visits, I noticed that much of the fresh organics has been replaced with regular fruits and vegetables as can be found at any other store, so that was a big disappointment. And as such I am deducting one star. lowering the review to 3-Stars- as one does not expect a merger to make the quality go down as much as it has with regard to food products. At first we loved the variety of the organics selections, but now it is about the same as with Jewel, while okay, it isn't necessarily worth paying extra for. There has been a drastic change since I first visited in the summer until now. The store is still generally okay, but most of the problems that led me away from Jewel, I am seeing at Kroger/Mariano's. Before I could buy organic wild yams or organic golden potatoes by the bag for baking, and now if they even have them it's individual yams and they may not even be organic- Apparently Kroger Foods doesn't think the consumer base at Mariano's is worth the effort of quality pesticide free options, so I think we will have to make the extra trip to Whole Foods. Overall Grade C/C- 2.85Stars ---------------------------------------------------------------- Original Review- I finally had the opportunity to go to the new Mariano's in the Evergreen Park area- In short, I. Love. It. Although the prices are definitely higher than the Jewel-Osco, nearby, the prices are lower than Whole Foods, so I think it is definitely something to consider. And my overall shopping experience was thoroughly enjoyable-- I liked it so much I signed up for a Mariano's card... Downsides-- only two or three that specifically come to mind: 1- The bakery. I could only try one or two things, but didn't like anything I tried enough to want to buy again. I feel like I can get better tasting treats elsewhere at better prices. And 2- unfortunately, Apparently all of their freshly made soups have 'chicken' or meat stock in them--even the broccoli soup had chicken stock, (even if I wasn't a vegetarian, this would get a little monotonous)--sigh, and 3-- The smallness of the store impacts the total variety and range of goods available. So, because this is one of the smaller locations and they didnot have the range of selection that Jewel has. For example- in the cooking oil section, while they had every brand of olive oil, which was great, they didNOT have any 'Avocado' oil, whatsoever, which I usually get from Thrive online, but can now find at 'Jewel' (although in their defense i may have missed it being unfamiliar with the layout, but I didn't see any), and they also did not have 'coconut-cream', and they only had canned coconut milk-- although I am able to find both, the coconut milk or cream at Jewel. But in terms of general quality and freshness, I absolutely loved the freshness of their produce, which Jewel has been sadly lacking of late, and the main reason for my visit, but the Mariano's organic veggies, and fruits selections were outstanding, and even though I hate shopping at multiple stores on grocery-restocking days, for that alone, I would make a point of going back. So, there are probably a few novelty items that I will still need to go to Jewel for, so will have to work it out as I really enjoyed my shopping experience-- But so far there are some things that I can only easily find at Jewel although in terms of quality, I love Whole Foods and now Mariano's. I also hear the Whole Foods that is supposed to be at the old Evergreen Park location on 95th is still going to be completed in 2018, despite the delay after changing ownership recently (purchased by Amazon), so I am looking forward to making more comparisons of the two stores when both are in the area. If the bakery had worked out better, I would have given it an extra half-star atleast, but overall, it was a fantastic day at a fantastic grocer! A very nice, clean, well organized addition to the neighborhood. Mariano's is like a slightly upscaled version of Dominick's. The produce looked to be of good quality and the prices were competitive with Pete's Fresh Market. Mariano's also stocks ground meats such as camel, alligator, buffalo, wild boar, duck, rabbit, quail and other game. They have quite a few food bars, a great looking bakery and meat section, fresh juices and a live pianist. The newly installed traffic lights allow for easy entry and exit. read more

Huge store, very wide selection, very nice quality of goods. It was rather congested when I visited, though hopefully that will die down a bit, seeing as the store is still brand new. The "international" section has a very nice variety of imports and spices, much more selection than most of the other stores in the area. The meat section is absolutely huge! You can find everything from chicken, beef, and lamb, to house made sausages and even some wild game, for those adventurous enough. Produce was very colorful and fresh looking. The bakery had lots of artisan loaves, fresh rolls, not to mention some beautiful cakes on display in their pastry case. Gorgeous wine section, decent selection of craft beers and liquor. Even the frozen and dairy sections have so many different brands to choose from. The store also has a wide range of ready to eat foods and beverages, such as sushi, pizza, hot and cold food bars, fresh smoothies, and coffee. If you have a rather extensive food budget, this could easily be considered a one stop shop. Some of their pre packaged foods are a bit over priced, but those items are mixed in with a few great buys as well. It's definitely a store you need the time to browse through, as it is very easy to miss a deal if you come in a hurry. All of the staff I encountered was very polite and willingly helpful as well.
