I am new to the LA area and my brother's wedding events spanned two weekends in mid-October. My sister and Mom were coming in from DC and also wanted their makeup done, so I took to Yelp to find someone who would come to us and who clearly was familiar with working with darker skin tones. Val was the first one I found and after going to her website, I straight up prayed that we would be lucky enough to work with her. And we did! She met us in random locations in Santa Monica and Malibu, made us look and FEEL beautiful, and above all, made us as comfortable as she could. The makeup matched our skin tones perfectly and was perfectly in place for the whole night. She even saved our butts for a last minute photographer for one of the events! Day of! She made me feel so comfortable, she has a relaxed, fun attitude, is very professional, and does incredible makeup. One thing I love about the way she does makeup is that she makes you look beautiful while somehow keeping you still looking like yourself. She followed the notes she took from our trial to a T and my makeup was exactly how I wanted it to look for my big day! She did a wonderful job with my bridesmaids as well! My fiancée at the time came back from the makeup trial and was very happy with her experience with Kelly. On the wedding day, the makeup was done really well but Kelly's rudeness ruined it for the bride, my sister (a bridesmaid) and the mother of the groom. My bride (now wife) told me how she pestered her about payment all day and even to the point of hovering next to her while peeing, 5 mins before walking to the alter. My sister, who was holding the wedding dress so the bride could go pee, had to tell her to back off. She even bothered my mom for payment even though she was late getting dressed. It wasn't until one of our wedding planner assistants caught her asking for money, and then pulling her aside to have a chat that she stopped. My wife remembers the wedding day as magical and perfect, but her one bad taste is Kelly. She does good makeup, but if you care about an experience, I wouldn't recommend her. Honestly, Sharon is so good at what she does, I don't even think I needed a trial because I absolutely loved what she did but it gave me peace of mind and reassurance. I told her all my concerns (oily skin, hair that doesn't hold curls, etc) and she made sure it was all addressed. I had SO many compliments after my trial and on wedding day. My hair normally doesn't hold a curl but I wanted cohesive waves and they held the entire night without making my hair feel stiff. She was perfectly on time too. Her arrival, set up and doing my mom's makeup, my sister's hair and makeup and then mine. She ended perfectly at the end time we aimed for too.
