This was my 5th round of physical therapy at Riverside Medical for different problems which have all been successful. My Physical Therapist was Allison and she had me back to 100% after only 6 weeks. Allison knows how to rehab injuries and she focuses on doing the exercises correctly and slowly while building up strength around the injury. She always gives me exercises to do at home daily. I am now back to full strength with no apprehension when climbing stairs or squatting. I would highly recommend Riverside Medical Physical Therapy if you want to rehab an injury. Instead, billing charges me for something I did not agree to or believe I needed, though as the person in billing wasn't actually present, she explains that she can't know what actually happened and can only read the codes (i.e. no point in talking about it to her). People who were present at the exam are apparently too busy to ever give any why for disregarding what I asked for. I don't know if I would have agreed to any test(s) if the doctor had explained why he wanted to diverge from my reason for visiting and do additional costly work, but I was never offered any choice in the matter. Unfortunately, I have to start over and find a better practice for me.

After realizing the office is not there anymore I called them and they gave me the new address. By the time I arrived the new place I got 7 minutes late. The old lady at the front desk refused to give me the service and didn't let me see the doctor. This was quite disappointing for me as I had waited for this appointment for over 2 months and I had taken half day off from work due to my appointment. My primary physician is Mike Melnick who I have been seeing for many years but I am not going back to this place again and trying to find a different practice. The old white lady at the front desk was very rude and treated me with disrespect. I assume she is racist towards people of color. I am quite disappointed and am going to report this incident to BBB, Federal Trade Commission, Illinois Attorney General's office and other consumer rights protection agencies. I believe they are up-charging patients by utilizing the 99204 code for 5-minute visits and follow-ups. I just thought this was just how expensive healthcare was, and that was just how it was. After consulting with other doctors about how much I pay for doctor visits and the extent of the visits, they suggested that I ask for itemized statements. Upon receiving the itemized statements, I was informed that I was being charged the 99204 code all these years. That being the case, I will be specific and only refer to the last couple visits. Both visits were no more than 5-minutes. The second visit included a strep test in which the doctor said it would take 5-minutes for the results, in which, through thin-walls, I heard him go see another patient, and then 25-minutes later, he came back and talked to me for another 3-minutes. I called the doctors' office on a Thursday, and upon talking to them, they told me the doctor was not in and that I would receive a call on Monday. Surprisingly, they called me back an hour later and their explanation was that the time reported is accurate. When I asked what time was reported, they only said "they reported time". No further explanation was given even after I asked several times, the person would not go into specifics on how much time was reported. I have used them for many years, so this is not a one-off, or me just being disgruntled by one bad visit. I have grown wiser and actually started looking into the codes they are using. How could they know if the time was reported accurately if the doctor wasn't even in to review this with? I will be also reporting this to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation and to my insurance company. It is really sad that our healthcare system is like this. This is not even about the money, but the principle. I am fortunate enough to have the money to pay for these bills, but what about those who cannot? I don't think this is fair either for insurance companies or for any medical network to represent their physicians with crooked, already well-paid doctors. All I'm really saying is be smart, don't think healthcare really has to be expensive, and if you feel a bill is too expensive, ask for an itemized bill! You may be surprised with what you'll find.

After one of my surgeries, he even came to see me personally, which meant the world to me. What I respected most about him was that he was never afraid to tell me the truth when I needed to hear it. At one point, another pain management doctor had me on extremely high amounts of medication, and I didn't even realize how much it was affecting me because I trusted the treatment plan. Dr. Melnick suggested a short rehab stay to evaluate my actual pain level, and it honestly changed my life. By that Monday, I felt like a new person, and I never went back down that road again. Doctors like him are rare. Since COVID and telehealth changed so much in healthcare, I've realized even more how hard it is to replace a doctor you truly trust. I was late to appointments a few times over the years, and I always worried he may have felt disrespected, but that was never my intention. I care about that because I have hypothyroidism and diabetes type 2 so I get a lot of blood sucked out, lol. I had to change my previous doctor because the previous one was punishing me with not refilling my medicine if I couldn't come to the clinic as often as she wanted me to. I told her I can do telehealth but I can not just keep coming to the clinic. I am disabled and it's not easy for me to just jump in the car and go where I need to, or when I need to. I do not have a special car for my wheelchair and I can't pick it up to put this in the trunk. Not that it would fit. Its a mobilized wheelchair and it weighs 50 lbs. She did not care and I went months without my medicine, she wouldn't even call me back when I left messages, so I found a new doctor Anam Ahmed MD at this location and she is really nice.
