Dr. Saguil figured out what was going on with me after suffering for 4 years; it was my thyroid…read more If you need a diagnosis please go see Dr. Saguil. My reason for venturing out on my own is I was brought up to serve others and I have an innate desire to find the root of disease and not just treat the effects. The national average for doctor visits is 15 minutes. Extending over the "Fatal Fifteen" (see blog DrRic Fatal Fifteen) can provide personalized lifestyle directions for the patient IN THE ROOM but makes everyone IN WAITING delayed. Then comes the monthly review from corporate saying I'm not seeing as many patients as the national average so "we'll have to reduce your salary!"? So now being solo without a large corporation/hospital backing me up...I can spend up to 1-1.5 hours establishing the fine details of life and designing a template so we both reduce dependence on prescriptions/surgeries AND ultimately reverse disease. Imagine that: fixing a patient so they don't need to come to the doctor anymore! Bad business model for hospital but I can't shake the innate desire to teach, empower, change and heal. The privilege of providing successful life changes to the community comes at a price; no medical insurance companies want me to fix lives unless I'm working for a large organization! The root word of "physician" is healer SO I would be very careful if your doctor doesn't mention/design changing life habits.

Extremely kind and great bedside manner. My kids adore him. He's very flexible in regards to…read moretreatment and preventive care strategies. I love that he encourages our family to have healthy lifestyles i.e. exercising, eating healthy, taking whole food vitamins, eating organic and locally grown when possible. Before rushing to prescribe a bunch of antibiotics or other pharmaceutical drugs and saying "good luck" like most doctors do these days - he'll suggest more natural, holistic remedies first, depending on the medical nature of the problem. He implements a logical sequence and balance of utilizing modern medicine, research and pharmaceuticals as well as natural remedies, as needed. Another thing that I found interesting is when asked at different hospitals (Rush, University of Chicago, and West Suburban Medical Center) who was my or my kids general practitioner , all the nurses and doctors said "you've got a great doctor" or "he's really good at what he does". That's totally reassuring when, if they wanted, could have instead advised me to utilize one of their staff doctors. Dr. Shauttauer came to the hospital after my second child was born and ensured she breastfed immediately to get the colostrum and that the baby nursed properly. And he was very concerned that I was doing well also. That experience was completely different from the hospital ended up at after delivering my first child (before I found Dr. Shauttauer) where the staff wanted to immediately take my son to see some random pediatrician and my husband had to debate with the staff to keep the child in the room with us or he was going where ever they were taking our child (and he did - they called him "the crazy man that won't leave his child") and they also gave our baby formula (which caused him to vomit multiple times) after we told them not to...sorry, had a short post traumatic stress moment there. Anyway, Dr. Shauttauer insured he was at the hospital on a Sunday to check on my newborn so the staff didn't have to whisk her away. Just be aware you have to pay out of pocket for office visits and hope to get reimbursed from insurance. I never remember to submit my claim to the insurance. So my visits were never counted towards my deductible. But, I'd rather pay out of pocket for good care for my children than let my insurance pay a crappy doctor. I can't say what the prices for everyone else will be, but I paid a ranged from like $50/visit to $150 for hospital visit. It may be different now because I had my daughter in 2015. Call first to check the prices before making a visit, to be sure.

I am so glad I made the switch to Green Medical Practice. I really felt my concerns were brushed…read moreoff by our previous pediatrician. I felt this pressure to conform even though my gut told me otherwise. Now I feel heard. I was even able to speak to Dr Paul personally on the phone. He educated me and reassured me. I appreciated all the great reviews of Dr. Boyd and after weeks and weeks of trying to find a…read moredoctor I think I can trust, they helped me decide she was the doctor for me. So I called for an appointment and was told she could see me on August 18 (today is July 2). I have prescriptions that have to be monitored and maintained, and I also have a very painful issues with my arm. I don't think either can wait for August 18. They are two separate appointments and they won't combine them: one is "to establish care" and the other is an illness visit. Once I see her as a "wellness visit" on August 18, I would be able to "get in quicker" to see her in the future. For now, if I'd like to be seen and monitored by "someone else" who has more availability in their schedule I could do that. Well, I've had a terrible experience with a doctor in Chicago that left me with ongoing medical issues that could have been prevented. So I did my research and selected someone I felt I could trust. I was so very lucky to have that in New Orleans (from where I just moved) and I just wanted that again. I don't really want to see "someone else" that I don't know anything about and waiting 6+ weeks to see a doctor I researched heavily. So while I can't really rate Dr. Boyd herself, this is a warning to those who are looking for a doctor: even though her site says she is accepting new patients, I don't think she really has time for them. Be sure you can wait six weeks before seeing her if you choose her. I get why she's busy -- she's good. But why advertise that you're accepting new patients when you really don't have time for someone who needs you?

Dr. Boyd is AMAZING. She's warm, but professional. She takes her time with her patients, and it's…read moreobvious that she cares very deeply for those in her care. Truth be told, I prefer younger, female, Family Docs (as opposed to Internal Medicine) - just as personal preference - but she's absolutely lovely. Kind. Attentive. Concerned. All the things you want in a GP. Oh - and one last thing: At my previous practice, there would be a HUGE wait - I mean, HOURS. (But heaven forbid you be more than 10 minutes late...they would cancel your appointment.) Not so with Dr. Boyd. I never feel rushed, either. She's genuinely a good MD. Seriously.
