That's when I decided to change my Cardiologist to Dr. Nick, he would not clear me unless I had the proper testing done. The results of that test showed I could have had a heart attack / or worse do to major blockages in my heart..blockages I was unaware of.. Dr. Nick answered all my questions, reassured me that i would be ok, and made the arrangements for me to see a surgeon. Everything Dr. Nick did saved my life. I had a colonoscopy done here yesterday. They made me pay $250 in advance for the possibility of a…read morepolyp removal. Kim, the office manager, assured me that I would be reimbursed if the gastroenterologist does not find any polyps. Before I paid the fee, I called my health insurer, Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS), and a representative explained that Island Digestive Health Center had a legal right to charge an advanced fee and that $250 is what BCBS charges for removal and that BCBS cannot interfere with Island DIgestive's policies. The gastroenterologist, Dr. Subramani; the anesthesiologist, Dr Su; and the registered nurses were thorough and professional. Fortunately, I had no polyps, so I am now waiting to be reimbursed. I am not coming here again because of the imposed out of pocket fee. In 2021, I had a colonoscopy done at St. Charles Hospital in Port Jeff, and I did not have to pay anything. I am considering going back there for my next colonoscopy.

She has a lot of concerns, has long had difficulty being taken seriously at the pediatricians' practice, and increasingly complained of discomfort and palpitations for over a week prior to her visit. I booked through ZocDoc, so it didn't actually generate a true appointment with the younger Dr. Hertz. I would have understood being moved to a different day, but on a busy Sunday, they still fit my daughter in to see the other Dr. (Howard) Hertz. Yes, there was a wait, which is to be expected on a Sunday and I brought a book. My daughter wanted to go in alone (her first time) and she was very apprehensive, and had been distressed in the days prior due to intensifying discomfort and broad symptoms. She came out of her visit extremely relieved, her concerns addressed, and with some testing appointments scheduled. She is afraid of blood draws, and said the nurses gave her an alcohol pad to sniff (normally I am there with her, so she was probably more anxious). In her entire medical history, she has always felt like any symptom she asked about was unaddressed, and the change in her demeanor after her visit was immediate - she was no longer scared she was seriously ill or on the verge of death. So on a busy Sunday, Dr. Hertz had a billion patients and still managed to make my sensitive/shy teenager feel heard, seen, and safe. I wasn't present so I didn't get the chance to explain her distress and discomfort, and he and the nurses noticed and addressed it anyway. My daughter is relaxed now and feels relieved, and I am so impressed that every person with whom she interacted made her feel safer and calmer. And I finally got to read my book!

The office called and asked whether I could arrive 15 minutes late because they were running behind. I agreed. I arrived at 1:00 p.m. and waited in the reception area until nearly 2:00 p.m. I was frustrated by the delay, but I understood that a busy office can fall behind, so I waited. I was then taken to an exam room. A staff member checked my vitals, reviewed my paperwork, and left. I waited more than another hour with no update. At that point I had been there roughly two hours. I went back to the front desk and asked whether the wait would be much longer. I was told it would not be and that someone would be with me soon. If the office was still running behind, or if they were unable to see me in a reasonable time, I should have been told. I am a working mother and cannot spend hours waiting without any communication. I was left alone in an exam room with music playing for over an hour, with no one checking in or explaining the delay. After more than two hours and no clear update, I left. A brief explanation or an offer to reschedule would have been basic courtesy. The lack of communication was the main problem.
