A life saver....literally. My husband's service dog got Kennel cough while in Marquette moving our daughter out of NMU for the summer. The vet was closed and not answering the emergency line. We are from southern Illinois....so this was an anxious situation. We went to PetSmart and the employee couldn't help us there. She referred us to Mares-Z-Doats. The employees were eager to help. They sold me homeopathic drops which I immediately gave him and he has went from hardly being able to get a breath to no coughing for five hours now. They carry a lot of stuff and I am glad that we have a local feed store like this, and the fact that they help load the car with heavy bags is wonderful. However the customer service is not very good. They are not the kindest nor do they seem interested in helping you out when you come in with non-frequently asked questions. read more

Going into Mare-z-doats as a pet owner is like being a toddler in a toy store! I've grown up in the area, and used to think it wasn't as fun because they don't sell any furry animals in there (just fish), but now that I'm grown up I appreciate the fact that you don't have to be concerned that they contribute to puppy mills and such. Infact they tend to be frequent contributors to our local humane society. As a dog trainer they have most of the supplies myself and my clients need to be successful. It's really just a fun place to go, you can bring your dog with and see what toys he will like etc. My least favorite part is sometimes the costs of certain items, but it is worth it to support a local business. (They also give 5% off everytime you show that you are an owner to our Marquette Food Co-op!) Mare-z-doats has an awesome array of pet foods to choose from. If you do your research you will see most large chain stores don't carry very high quality brands, (Mare-z-doats also carries some low quality brands) but here they have a lot, and educated staff to help you decide! I love this store. They have a wide variety of supplies for domestic pets. I especially appreciate all of the assorted food and feeders that they have for wild birds. It's the best in the area. The staff is friendly, they carry heavy things out to the car (you don't even have to ask, they just do it!), and they provide great customer service. It's like going back to another era. Best place in the Marquette area for doggie needs. They have such variety and a great staff! They also have a good selection of items for bird feeding, cats, caged birds, horses, you name it, they probably have it. They are the only place I shop for pet needs.
