We were staying in Marquette with our two pups (two pit mixes), and we needed to board them for the…read morenight with little notice. I called many of the local dog daycare/boarding locations but all of them were booked or were not taking new dogs. Then came The Animal Inn to the rescue! They quickly responded to my voicemail and were able to take both dogs that day! After a few minute conversation about our dogs, their vaccination records, and where to locate the facility, we were all set up and dropped the dogs off about an hour later. The whole process was very easy, and once in-person with the staff it is very clear that they are experienced and care about your dogs. They gave us many options and asked us many questions to make sure both us and the dogs would be comfortable with their stay. I also liked that I could bring in bones from home for them, but it was also nice that they have blankets and everything there so I didn't have to bring all of their belongings with us. When we picked them up, the staff member told us that one of our dogs wouldn't come inside after playtime and gave the staff a smiling grin with her squinted eyes - which is a clear sign to me that they let our dogs have fun and that they were enjoying themselves, because that's her exact behavior at home when she's happy. For the two dogs boarded together with additional play time at night and in the morning, it was $57! I still can't get over that. Our daycare at home is $50 per dog per night with no added extras. I would absolutely bring our dogs back if we're in the Marquette area again, and anyone looking for boarding should feel comfortable bringing their pups here as well.

If I could rate this place lower than 1 star I would....we have left our dogs here twice the first…read moretime it didn't seem like my dogs had a good time at all as when we picked them up they couldn't get out of there fast enough, and when I called to check in on my dogs after they'd been there for a few days the lady on the phone was incredibly rude and acted like she had no interest in telling me how my dogs were. After this last stay, they will never go back and I wouldn't recommend anyone else send your dogs here. Our dog showed up on a harness, which we told them couldn't stay on her. They left it on her all weekend and now she has a huge infected hot spot under her neck. When I called to ask the place about it the owner pretty much said "oh well sorry I wasn't here when your dogs were" and "I guess I'll chew out the other people working there". When I asked to be reimbursed for the vet bill I will now have, she yelled "send me the damn bill I guess I'll pay it" the place takes no accountability for what happens to your dogs under their care.

I was nervous about leaving him somewhere that there isn't a staff member onsite 24 hours, but my understanding is that the prior owners live next door and we were welcomed to call to check-in on our pup. They even took our energetic guy out for a walk and I felt like that was going above and beyond. Prices are fantastic and drop-off/pick-up hours are just right. Very disappointed! My dog goes to the groomers every four weeks and while on vacation in Escanaba,…read moreI chose to go to K9 Cosmetology. I was hesitant based on how much availability they had but it was the only groomer in town not booked throughout the summer which should have been a red flag in itself. I made an appointment for 1100 and dropped her off at 1050. Other than shot records being a requirement to get groomed, I can't say anything else good about this place. I have a beagle which takes approximately an hour for a bath, nail trim and dry. After two hours have passed, I popped in to check on the status of my pup and the girl at the front desk was on her phone, but put it away as I approached her. When I asked how much longer they would have my dog, she said they hadn't started yet. I told her I would just take her now. She said that they were behind schedule, but never provided any status updates over the duration they had my dog. Lastly, my pup was kenneled the two hours she was there, not in the open bay to play which hurt my heart because she is not kenneled at home. Had I known they were not going to groom her immediately and call upon completion, I would not have left her at all. Of all the groomers I have visited in my travels with the Air Force, this place has the worst customer service; no communication, multiple excuses, distracted by phone, no compensation. It's clear they care about the dollar and not the dog. I have shared my experience with local friends and family and hope to pay it forward so others time is not wasted.

Well, there's a great alternative, you can have someone come to your home and care for your pets, walk them and feed them while you're out of town and they'll have all of the comforts of your own home instead of a small cage. We use Jennifer for our golden retriever whenever we have to head out of town and she's great about getting him out for walks and spending some QT with him. She's insured and bonded as well and can do a range of pets. Give Tails to Scales a call instead of sending your pets to mini jail cells! They'll thank you when you get back!
