Beautiful location. Price is unreasonable for an old apartment that is being held together by duck tape. Maintenance was in my apartment every week. We even had a roach issue. Turns out they were coming in from under a hole under the sink area. Picture attached will show how they decided to fix it. There was always an issue. Parking, speeding and smoking in the complex is a huge problem. Jane is amazing she does what she can. Josh the property manager is a waste of space and should not be managing an apartment complex. He's never on site and when does he speak to you He's condescending and rude. Doesn't care about anything you say so just save your breath. Safety is also a big concern in the community. Several neighbors had their apartments broken into. As well as E-bikes stolen every single day. Saw the sheriffs department cars in the community way too often to feel safe. Considering this is such a nice area, you would think that you wouldn't have to deal with things like that, especially paying such a high price tag. Ultimately moved out because we were being threatened by a neighbor and the office did nothing about it. They even went as far as letting him re-sign, even after all he had done. read more

Update 7/6/20 Marea is a good community. Nothing is perfect but throughout COVID-19 this complex has done an excellent job of creating a good environment. Pools are nice, path the Salt Creek saved my sanity many times. The staff is great. Fernando Vargas on the maintenance team has come through in the clutch multiple times. When my freezer failed he was there right away-the same with my washing machine. His honesty and dedication that went above and beyond. When I took my sick daughter out of the car my phone fell out of my pocket. Fernando not only found it--where find my iPhone failed he brought it to my apartment. It not only saved the day but saved me $1000. I have been grateful to live here the last 3 years. read more

So, um, where do I start this. We've lived here for a year now and there are plenty of reviews on here regarding the recent construction of a new clubhouse and swimming pool the people living close by it had to deal with. Well, the pool is now open and THAT construction is done. We were offered a lease renewal of only $50 a month and we gladly took it. Now we knew that was just too good to be true. Imagine our surprise when all of a sudden, without any prior warning or notice, they bring in heavy equipment and start a construction of ANOTHER BUILDING right next to ours? That is completely f-king insane. The friendly construction starts at 7 AM sharp and goes on full day until 5 pm. Not only is the noise unbearable, the smell of burnt diesel fuel is pretty much everywhere, leaving anyone is building 31 and adjacent building in unlivable conditions, forcing us to close down all windows and balconies and depriving us of one of the most important amenity we moved down here for - fresh air. After a few phone calls with the leasing office, and email was finally sent out explaining that this is a brand-spanking-new construction which is scheduled to run for fifteen (15!!!) months and that they are offering a few hundred bucks off for the September - December period of time. Don't you guys think this is kind of low now that you have us trapped living in a construction site for a year? Building 31 will fight for our rights. Don't expect this practice of yours to pass without consequence. read more

NOTICE: Over the next few months we will be preparing the site by securing the slope with earth movement and the pouring of concrete pillars. Framing is anticipated to begin at the end of January 2020. The work will take place Monday thru Fridays between the hours of 7AM - 5PM and the entire project will last approximately 15 months. awful management. Strongly recommend not moving into this place. Every one of their employees that I dealt with is aloof and passive aggressive. months and months stealing long distance with this crowd trying to get simple questions answered. 10 email sent and maybe one response. 20 phone calls made and no one picks up the phone. Leaving messages that go unanintellect. Simple questions such as phone numbers to reach after-hours staff they wouldn't answer. Spent months and months trying to get everyone including the supervisor that would never pick up the phone or answer any questions, to ask how to get into the complex after-hours upon moving from another state. Six people gave six different answers. It never got settled. They have no game plan. They have no backup. They wing it and make up answers based on their own personal predilectionsswered. A pattern that is offputting and strange. up until a week prior to moving in they still didn't have an answer for me when asking what happens at the after-hours person doesn't pick up the phone. They had no backup plan nothing. They would not give me their personal phone numbers to reach them after-hours. One of the characters that works there by the name of Joan who is supposedly frighteningly enough supposedly a supervisor, gave me a phone number to call when I got to the gate. I called it in advance because I knew they were a shady outfit and guess what, the phone call went to an overseas out call center in the Philippines that would "taken message" I got a much better place I mean much better then the $3800 they were trying to charge for a two-bedroom apartment with somebody beneath you and to both sides of you. I was able to get an actual house here for the same price with no common walls and a garage. When I moved down here at grow through the complex and it looks dirty to me there is garbage everywhere and it just look all cluttered. I'd recommend visiting this place which I did not do because of the distances as I was out of state but would recommend that you get a good feel for this place before moving in. It's a very old and cheesy -looking apartment complex that does happen to be located in Dana point a mile from the beach. That may have value to you but a couple of miles in land can get a whole house for less money than these thin-walled 50-year-old apartment complex offers in my opinion. I've never had a stranger interaction with anybody over 45 years of renting. I could not believe the incompetency of the staff. The turnover is astronomical and they just don't care. They don't care they won't call you back they won't help you. It's a mess. I can only extrapolate out to what it would be like to live there if the staff is so offputting and has this I don't give a blank attitude. Avoid them would be my advice read more

We initially loved living here until we had an issue with our downstairs neighbor's excessive grilling and smoking our house out with toxic fumes. We politely spoke with our neighbor, asking him to stop since I'm asthmatic and it causes a lot of breathing issues for me. AND it's against California law to have outdoor grills in apartment communities as well as a violation of the lease terms. Our neighbor continued to use his outdoor grill, even after our requests. So, I asked management for help. But even after management got involved and spoke to our neighbor he still continued to grill. Management allows him to store his grill (even though our lease says they aren't allowed on our porches) and told me further complaints against my neighbor are affecting my neighbor's "quality of life." Our neighbor has harassed us a few times in retaliation after our reporting and we've informed management of these incidents. Their reply is that we just "don't like each other." So clearly management does not take harassment serious enough and does not go above and beyond to create a safe environment in a "luxury leasing" community. If you are looking for a place to rent and feel comfortable in your home do not look here. There are nicer communities in the area and it's not really "luxury leasing." Management will allow your neighbor to harass you even if you pay rent on time and follow leasing rules. They look the other way when other neighbors are out of compliance. This community is about the bottom line and can care less about your well-being. Giving two stars since we love Sierra, Dez, and Adam in the leasing office. They've always been very accommodating. read more

Happy to see that Dawn is back as leasing manager. She was the leasing manager when I first moved in years ago. She follows through and gets things done. Plus she's very approachable and kind. I've lived here for 10 years and I've known the maintenance crew. Fernando is awesome! He's been here now for 30 years and I've known him for 10 years and it's been a pleasure. Also a shout out to Jesus who help me out a few times and he was very pleasant and got the job done not to mention everyone else everybody's great here. I moved to Marea in 2017 after a difficult period in life. I wanted to be by the beach in a happy area and restart my life so I did and it became the only place I've called home for many years. I've traveled a good bit between then and now but always come home and have no plans of leaving soon. I will say that having lived in a few different units it's important to consider what your priorities are (space, view, cost) and make sure you pick one that works for you. I've ended up in one that didn't meet my needs, but leasing was nice enough to let us move within their policy to one that was a better fit. Another plus is the maintenance team...if you can even call them that because they do so much more. Fernando is usually the one that comes to help us out when something isn't working and he is always so on top of it. He's also been very patient with me when I get flustered over small things that can easily be fixed. When I'm home alone with our baby I get a little nervous having people come in, but with Fernando it feels like family. He asks about my kid and tells me about his family, all while multitasking and getting the job done quickly. Today he took one look at my AC and had it fixed in under five minutes. One day I was exceptionally overwhelmed with work and mom life he came to fix the sink and I was taking care of baby, so he grabbed my trash I had set by the front door and took it up for me no questions asked. Like everywhere, places undergo changes and there have been quite a few since I first moved here, but through the ups and downs it's a pretty wonderful place to call home. read more

From the first interaction with Sierra and Des my last week of moving into this amazing property has been well above my expectations. The paperwork process was so efficient, simple and quick. Once moved in I had my first call for a couple of minor service request items and called and spoke to Josh and again impressed with the pleasant experience from Josh's greeting and quick action to them being totally blown away by Mr Fernando. Never before in all of my renting experience have I been approached so kindly and with care than my phone ringing and Fernando introducing himself and giving me an ETA when he was going to be by and of course I had an appointment at that time and Fernando was so accommodating and quickly offered another time to fit my schedule. And then he was right in time and was so knowledgeable and fixed all the little issues right away. And then came my 4th day in my new apartment that I love and adore. It is with regret that I will be moving from Marea Apartments. I have lived here for 1 and 1/2 year and have enjoyed every minute! My plan was to rent until I could find the right home to purchase and I have done just that! The complex has been well kept and updated. The facilities and second to none! The maintenance team takes pride in their job and is always available to help when needed. Fernando has been to my apartment for some minor issues in a moment's, notice and goes above and beyond what is asked. The office team is always friendly and personable when approached. It is obvious Josh, the manager, runs a business where people take pride in their work and approach with tenants. I will miss living in this well run, prideful, and content complex. I have lived here since January 2017. I am a quiet resident who never has any issues. Do not let the location of this place fool you. I highly recommend anyone considering Marea to stay far away. The front office staff member Alexa is awful. Anything I have ever asked she flat out says no without offering any alternatives. I have to pry more information out of her and come up with my own solutions. Isn't it her job to help me? She has zero customer service skills. Try to speak with anyone besides her, they are actually friendly and will TRY to help you. This place is constantly under construction. Be prepared to pay full price for your rent without having access to the gym, pools, jacuzzis, your own parking spot, and trails. The pools and gym were closed most of 2019 for "renovations" and they were also closed for months in 2020 due to Covid. The 2020 closures are of course in no fault of Marea, but still be prepared to pay full price even though the amenities are a huge reason I pay high rent to live here. Parking is a nightmare. Every night I have to park on the farthest side of the community and take a 10 minute walk to get to my front door. They say this is luxury leasing? To me luxury means CONVENIENCE, not having to walk across the community to get home. Also this place has the smallest parking spots I have ever seen. I have gotten so many dings because we are quite literally parked right on top of each other. I dont even blame residents for this, it is entirely Mareas fault for giving us tiny parking spots. Please see picture attached. Also you only get 5 guest parking spots a month and you need a pass STARTING AT 6 PM. I have never heard of such strict parking regulations. Does this sound like luxury to you? The pools were closed for the majority of 2019 for "rennovations". Dont be blind sided by the furniture, the jacuzzis still only get up to 99 degrees and the bottom is covered in sand (gross). I've never seen anyone out there disinfecting surfaces and instead of hiring appropriate cleaning and security Marea actually threatens to close amenities on residents. Is this legal? Lastly the apartments are so outdated. Be prepared to call maintenance once a week to re hang, re bolt, re screw, and fix everything. Maintenance here is AWESOME though and they come quickly and are kind and professional. At this point the only thing you pay for here is location! read more

I am here to applaud Marea yet again. I have lived here for 10 years this year. I cannot imagine a better community to be part of. The leasing staff is very kind, and I am always greeted with a smile. The maintenance staff is extremely helpful and helps in a very timely manner. There has never been an issue they could not resolve. And in the small change there is, a full replacement of the item or appliance is offered. I am so grateful to be part of this community.
