Bella has been my hair stylist for years and I cannot recommend her enough. I'd still be going to her if it weren't for moving out of state. Not only is she very sweet but she listens to the vibe you're going for and delivers every time. I've never found another hairstylist that gets it like she does. This is the my daughters hair prior to the salon trying to strip left over color in here hair. Almost impossible to tell she has any color. Nope-- the salon tried to tell me a color done a year ago needs to be stripped prior to our color appointment. Takes up an hour time to try to strip hair that doesn't even need to be stripped, left my daughter, stuck on the other side and just brought her over for her haircut and skip the coloring altogether because the color is left. Didn't want to communicate that to me though.. When I asked what happened they're like oh they just ran out of time-- as though it was our fault cause she had hair that couldn't be processed over. BS Tried to charge me $150 at the front checking out for the removal of hair color on top of that. Worst salon service and staff to allow a young person sit so long and sideline her as she isn't important enough as a A list celebrity --yr salon claims to have. Never again! I complained at the front and the owner did their due diligence to stay away. I saw him while I was making a formal complaint while checking out. 150.00 for a service I never even booked and was unnecessary Estilo Salon which I can highly recommend! (3rd street) Owner instead writes that I have not booked here as a reply since 2019 Find another salon that doesn't try to extort your money when they have overbooked and allow you to be a pawn in their money grab. I am sorry to feel I have to write this review, however sat on it for quite some time prior to making that decision. I am not going to name the stylist here, because I feel it's more important to bring attention to what has sadly become widely acceptable business practice, particularly in Los Angeles. Please tell me why, as consumer's, we have begun to accept the outrageous cost of services, with SO little expectation in return. Why are we accepting this?!! I suppose anything is "worth" what someone is willing to pay for it, which is why I personally refuse to pay 600.00 ever, ever again for a highlight. I don't care who the damned stylist is (or isn't). I am not a celebrity, a high-profile client, nor am I someone of great wealth. That being said, I do have the resources, if I choose, to treat myself to a "celebrity" colorist (with the assumption that, well, I don't know what I was assuming other then to get the best highlight ever know to man or God). I arrived at the salon and was barely greeted by a woman at the front desk that could not have cared if I lived or died. I was offered tea or water but, frankly, for these prices, a glass of champagne (or prosecco) would have a been nice touch. Also, perhaps pretend that you want me there (I've had the same experience in many of the Beverly Hills luxury stores, but imagine me expecting you to be more pleasant, not RUDER, for these prices). Please get over yourself and make your paid work day about the customer. The snobbery is unnecessary and actually undermines your credibility. I digress... I proceed to have my hair highlighted which, in addition to the obvious, should also feel like a relaxing and enjoyable experience. Rather, my colorist is so rushed and distracted the entire time that on a couple of occasions I was mid-sentence when she just walked away (which is simply rude). She did service on no less than FOUR clients during the four hours I was there (I have never once spent more than two hours on this same service). Rushing back and forth, back and forth, in an effort to maximize her profit. It was so stressful and felt like nothing more than a continuation of the apathy I experienced when I walked in. In short, I was there for the benefit of someone's financial gain, which is fine, except that I felt it. There is absolutely NO way to integrate four clients at once and not make them feel slighted and stressed. The cherry on top was when I had booked a blow-dry (also, when did we start accepting an ADDITIONAL 60.+ to blow-dry our hair after a service, but it seems we've all accepted it so here we are). They tell me they didn't have it down, but found an assistant to do it. Five minutes in she turns the hair dryer off, sets it down and says "be right back". Huh, where the hell are you going now?! I pick up the dryer to finish it myself when the colorist sees me and rushes over to finish it. I get so annoyed with stuff like this I don't even want you to touch me now-just let me do it please so that I can get out of here. Bottom line-REGARDLESS of who you are, or what your budget is, what are you really getting when you decide to spend double or even triple the amount of what a service costs elsewhere? Is it ACTUALLY 2-3 times better? There are endless salon's in LA to choose from, so if I reeaally feel like I want to throw that kind of money around again, I'd prefer a nicer overall experience and to feel a bit more pampered and appreciated. read more

I just wanted to express my extreme disappointment with this salon. I have been a client for a long time. I had an emergency with my mother which required hospitalization and was unable to keep my appointment. I did not cancel within 24 hours due to the emergency. I was able to cancel 7 hours prior to the appointment. I was told that its their company policy to charge 50% cancellation fee. I know that Salons have discretion to enforce the "cancellation fee" and this salon chose to enforce it despite knowing that I had an emergency. How insensitive and disrespectful. read more

They get the job done, but you could get the same treatments done somewhere else for two times less. In my experience, I was able to find places that do my highlights better, using more product and really making sure I'm happy with it, for three times less than Mare. Beyond that, the vibe really depends on you. If you relate to the people working there and get along with them you'll like the environment, but if your personalities clash with the stylist, there's a snobbish feeling you'll receive. As though you're not entertaining enough to them, when they should be the one making you comfortable as you're paying for the service. read more

This is a beautiful salon with ample street parking. The vibe is chill and my hair is always always amazing. My colorist Sarah Connor moved here from Meche so I followed. She is amazing with my hair, which can be tricky when you are Asian and prefer to be on the lighter side. I've seen way too many Asians that have orange hair instead of blonde. Sarah had never given me a bad hair day. She is seriously the best just google her! I am so lucky that my stylist Alessandra "Allie" Saman also joined Sarah in her move. She's been cutting my hair also for about 8 years at least and I would rather go grey or let my hair get too long and shaggy than let any one else touch my hair than these two! I had a terrible experience with Meaghan at Mare salon. She bleached my hair roots to ends was distracted working on another client and not even listening to my requests. I used to have long blonde hair. And had to cut several inches off after coming to mare. I've never had anyone bleach my ends in the 18 years of having root touch ups I've now got terribly short hair that continues to break since seeing Meaghan. read more

Rain is a GEM!! I am so glad I found her. I have really THICK hair and it has always been an issue to style. It's been hard to find a stylist who can handle my hair. But look no further than Rain if you have thick asian hair. She gave me the perfect amount of layers so that my hair feels not as thick but doesn't get puffy. I also brought my boyfriend to see her. This hair salon is simply great. A bit hidden since it is off Beverly and from the outside looks like a private residence which as I understand used to be at one point until it was completely remodeled and turned into this bright, welcoming, and charming salon. They even have a little backyard area with chairs and tables for you to just relax. I was there on a Saturday and it was particularly busy but nonetheless the staff and hair artists were all super nice and professional. I made an appt with Kiley for a haircut this week - I get a text the day of my appt (hours before my appt) saying the stylist is double booked so my appt is cancelled and if I'm interested in rescheduling for the following week. Mare salon stylists and colorists are amazing. However receptionist was snobby and spoke to me like a disinterested valley girl and not willing to help me find a solution to get an appointment. I was trying to schedule an appointment with my og stylist (WHO IS AMAZING) but our schedules weren't aligning. The receptionist was incredibly rude and did not offer a solution to this issue and sounded irritated talking me for an extended amount of time about it. "Uh uh buh bye" was how she hung up on me after being entirely unhelpful in figuring a way to accommodate my schedule. The salon is really beautiful and I think everyone that ive personally had my hair done with does high quality work but they should work on the customer service which is part of the overall experience. She has taken me to many different shades of blonde, whatever I happen to be in the mood for! Jamie always maintains the integrity of my hair, lightening safely without drying or breaking my hair. LA has no shortage of salons and with so many claiming to be the best at blond, I've experienced my fair share of them all. I can say that Nina is the best! She gives that perfect baby blond. But she can do any blond, which is why she's so good! Just note, they do not blowout your hair unless you ask (and pay extra) but it's still worth it. read more

I read about this salon on Vogue.com and loved the work that I saw on their stylists' Instagram accounts. They all clearly have a great eye for aesthetics without being trendy, which is a plus. There are so many salons in L.A. that reproduce the same ombréd, beach waved lob on every single client regardless of whether or not it complements the individual. I'm wary of hair salons that seem too commercial or too busy-like a haircutting factory-and was immediately drawn to the beautiful décor and intimate vibe at Mare. (I can see why young Hollywood stars are flocking here-in fact, I sat next to two A-listers myself while I was there!) I decided to stop by on a whim for a consultation and ended up getting my hair cut that day. I only needed a light re-shaping and was generally happy with the cut I received. I wanted to write this review mainly because I'm so impressed with their customer service. I emailed the salon a couple of days later-with a pic attached-to respectfully point out that the ends of front layers needed a little more refining. To my surprise, they responded right away and said that they would be happy to accommodate at no extra charge. They genuinely seem invested in building long-standing relationships with their clients and making sure that everyone is 100% happy with their experience. They've got the building blocks of a successful business covered! I look forward to returning next time I'm in town. read more

Abbey is a color genius. There's really no other way to put it. I've been seeing her for color since I moved to LA nine months ago, and she is hands-down the best colorist I've ever been to. I'm a natural blonde, but I color my hair red, and Abbey is incredible with redheads! I've cycled through a few different shades (for work--I'm an actress) during the course of working with her, and she always gets it just right. I get asked all the time if my red hair is natural, and this is all thanks to Abbey's skills! Also, she has the uncanny ability to color match root grow-out to the EXACT color of the rest of your hair, which saved my life when I needed my roots dyed the day before new headshots! I am very disappointed with my experience here. I confirmed over the phone with the receptionist THREE times (I even said ARE YOU SURE??) that the price would be $250 for a partial highlight and she said yes, so I made an appointment and came in the next week. AFTER I was done getting colored, the colorist said it was $300. I said, oh but the receptionist said it would be $250 on the phone. The colorist said it starts around $250...umm okay? Then you should probably discuss that with your brand new client ahead of time. Then he asked me if I wanted a blow out! WHAT?! Yeah, I'd like to leave with dry hair! Well that was going to be an extra million dollars which was not discussed over the phone either! If you're going to charge people outrageous prices, then the color job needs to be FANTASTIC, which it was not. Oh and I wasn't offered anything to drink or magazines to read. The staff was friendly but half asleep to be honest. I normally go to Blonde/Blond Salon and they are incredible and charge less but I needed an appointment on short notice which I regret now. read more

Loved this gem of a salon!! You don't even realize it's a salon, it's so warm and inviting! Love the Koi pond in the front and the back patio is Magnificent!! From the moment you walk in the door until you leave, it's a wonderful experience!! All the staff is so warm and friendly!! Allie is beyond amazing!! I have very thick wavy hair and trust me when I tell you, Allie knows what to do with it. She's so patient with her blow outs and she's a perfectionist.. She's so passionate about her work!! I already wrote another review for Allie P a LONG time ago for Neil George, but I follow her everywhere and she's due for a review now that she's at Mare. Allie is amazing! I made the mistake of going somewhere near my house, in the Valley, one time and, without going into detail, will never make that faux pas again! I have naturally curly, thick hair. I need a cut that looks good blown out for work, but also looks good when I want to rock my natural look. Allie gives a wonderful natural, beachy wave cut. If you say trim, she gives a true trim and doesn't hack your hair. I also want to throw a shout out to Megan, who does my color. I had been trying to manage the gray hairs, that seem to be creeping in now, by myself and I was left with color that looked all sorts of crazy. Megan does such a great job that I only have to go in every 6 weeks or so for a base, and then we adjust my highlights as needed. Color from Megan and a cut from Allie and, VOILA!, perfect hair! read more

I'm only writing this review because I just read some of the negative reviews and I don't think they're fair. At least they don't make sense given my experience. The customer service at Mare is exceptional. They've always been kind, on top of it when it comes to communication, and the coffee is almost worth the price of the cut. Also, as I'm writing this, the receptionist is tracking down my man Dax to figure out when he can get me in and then call me back. There's very little, if anything that I've EVER experienced at Mare that hasn't been top of the line service. As for the cut I can only speak to Dax's work since he's been cutting my hair for years now but he's fantastic. Anyway... all you whiners who seem to dismiss receptionists because they "sound like valley girls" need to check yo self... BEFORE you wreck yo self... as the song clearly states. read more

I don't even know where to begin. I was referred to Mare by a co-worker. She had the exact hair colour I had been wanting to achieve after going to five YES five different hair colourists in LA with NO luck. I consulted with Abbey, which was the same hair colourist my friend sees. Once I arrived, I saw that she had me down for highlights. In our initial consultation, I advised her that all I wanted was a dark warm chocolate brown. My hair is currently a very dark brown since being ruined by the others. "Why the highlights I asked". She said to TRUST her and that it was part of the "process". Since when are highlights part of a process to achieve a SOLID colour!?!?? So I did, and let her do her thing. I was initially put down for a base colour, which cost $180. I didn't think to ask how much highlights were as I told her before we even started, while in her chair, I didn't want highlights but was told to respect "the process" again. After a long 4 hours in the chair, she was done and guess what!! My hair was NOT a dark warm chocolate brown after all that!! Shocking!!DEAR GAWD, my bill was $580!!! WTF!!! If you're going to charge $400 for highlights ON TOP of $180 for base colour, you need to advise your clients before you begin!! I was so distraught & embarrassed, so I paid for it. I called the salon a few days later to speak to a manager as I was SO sick to my stomach. $580!! Seriously!! They offered to credit me $150 or redo my hair. More like credit me $250 AND redo my hair!!! I accepted the $150 and now I have copper/yellow highlights!! The thing that baffles me, is that she has the formula of the exact hair color I was wanting. If you see a stylist at this salon, make sure you ask in DETAIL what it will cost you and go with your gut, which is what I should have done, when they say "RESPECT THE PROCESS". Modern, relaxed and clean environment. First time seeing Eddie and he delivered! He managed to transform my horrible foiled highlights to a blended master piece.
