As a Californian, I have been exposed to the massive foodie scene and had the privilege to appreciate various cuisines. However, due to professional reasons, I moved to MA and had been on a mission to find good restaurants/neighborhood gem (was successful in finding good sushi from Tora/Boston). So far, finding good Italian restaurants has been tough for me (even North End disappointed me, but I have yet to try Carmellina...). Mare E Monti was pretty good, as I had the chance to enjoy Frutti Di Mare and Pappardelle alla Bolognese. The pasta had the right texture, and the sauces were flavorful with a blend of various spices! So, the question is "is my quest to find a good Italian restaurant in MA over"? The answer is yes, and I'd say that is a great neighborhood gem. This was a really good meal that me and my son had. The resturant has a good atmosphere and nice staff. The only thing that was bad about our meal was that the noodles I got were hard and chewy. Besides that this was a really good meal! And my opinion is that they need more choice of sauces like meatball, sausage , or veggie sauce! read more

We got there a few minutes earlier from their opening time. Guy at the bar was kind of rude, telling us to wait outside when there's a waiting area inside. This was quickly redeemed once a kind waitress invited us inside and seated us early. Good thing cause we were a second away from going somewhere else. I deducted a star cause he made us feel bad. Otherwise, food and waitress service were quite good! Environment: Open, clean, with a lot of seating. Designs were rustic and very italian-y. Seems great for a romantic date, or if you want to indulge in delicious Italian cuisine. Mushroom Ravioli: It was creamy and heavy on the stomach (but what so you expect with this sort of pasta dish). I found it was delicious. I loved that there was plenty of mushroom too. Flavor was very rich. I didn't finish the meal, but definitely was excited for leftovers. Eggplant (side dish): It was huge considering the price for the side order. We were able to call ahead for a table of 16 on a late Saturday evening. As you can imagine with a party that size (half were teenage girls and younger kids), there was quite a bit of disagreement about where to go to dinner. While the building is unassuming, the food was delicious. Even the kids found something to order and they liked it. A couple of dishes that we had that were outstanding were the lobster ravioli and the gnocchi. The homemade pasta really made the bolognese extra special. Our waiter was efficient and did a great job taking care of us. All in all, if we are ever in town again, we'd definitely go back! Highly recommend. read more

Excellent food in a comfy setting, definitely worth a try! The bread and oil were nice, though not quite first press olive oil. Maybe it was a mix? Veal parmigiana with spaghetti was excellent, rich and textured in all the right ways. Baked haddock with risotto and green beans was scrumptious, flaky and well balanced. I'd likely want to return and try other dishes. I'm subtracting a point for a few details. Two servers squeezed past me instead of stopping to let me walk to and from the restroom, notably acknowledging my presence but not pausing for that second or two it takes to make a customer feel like a star. Parking on the street is tricky, especially considering the snow banks and many residences in the area. Notably, our food came way too fast, less than 5 minutes, which makes it more likely that they just reheated it. Risotto takes at least 20 minutes, so they're either great mind readers or practiced reheaters. It was also annoying because I was hoping to have a leisurely conversation with dinner. Definitely more of a "sit, eat, leave" kind of place. Finally, this is called a "trattoria" but it's just an average restaurant where you can't see the kitchen. And it does look weird to have the bar right in front of you when you walk in. That said, the four stars are solidly earned and I'd come again. read more

The people who work in this restaurant are so nice! My waiter, Anthony, was just terrific. He just had such a caring way about him and gave good tips on wine pairings and knew the menu very well. I loved the pasta bolognese. The pasta was home made and delicious. My mother ordered lamb chops and gave me one, and it was cooked to perfection and flavorful. Received a call at 3:00 the afternoon of the reservation confirming we were still coming and were told the entire party had to be present or we would forfeit our time slot. We went here on my fiance's birthday. Very good ambience(romantic), good service and good food-not extraordinary, but was better than other Italian restaurants (I am not a big fan of Italian food). I really liked the drinks. We ordered margarita and number 19. For food, we got calamari ( little chewy, not the best) and for entrees we got chicken marsala and pollo amaretto . Chicken Marsala had a very different sauce in it with mushrooms and herbs but pollo amaretto had a very unique sweet creamy taste. Overall, I really like this place. Other things I may try here next time is ravioli aragosta and pappardelle bolognese as they are quite popular here. read more

My friend ordered an Antipasto which was huge. All the meals came out very hot and each one of us truly enjoyed them. My Veal Marsala was very good with home made pasta. My wife's Gnocchi with goat cheese & spinach was delicious. Our friends ordered a chicken dish which was too big to finish. My wife ordered a white chocolate raspberry cheesecake & our friends ordered a chocolate mousse. Both were yummy. Since the restaurant is in the middle of a residential neighborhood there is limited parking but they offer complimentary valet parking which is a nice little perk. Overall I would give it a 4.5 stars but since there is no half stars I'll offer the 5th star because of the enjoyment of seeing friends we haven't seen in almost 20 years. read more

This place is very unassuming on the outside and there is only street parking available but inside it is decorated well and made for a nice ambiance. There is a bar area and a more intimate dining room area to the restaurant. They had a nice extensive wine selection and make homemade pasta. We ordered the calamari as an appetizer and it was quite possibly one of the best dishes of fried calamari I have had. The breading was crisp and not too thick which was perfect for my taste. The cherry peppers added a nice acidic, sweet, and mild spicy flavor to the dish. The warm bread and garlic olive oil that came out to the table when we arrived was also delicious. We ordered the lobster ravioli and the Pollo Giuseppe as our entrees. While my fiancé thought the chicken cutlets were on the dry side, the homemade pasta was cooked el dente and tasted fresh and authentic. I thoroughly enjoyed the lobster ravioli which also had chunks of lobster meat and the lemon cream sauce was quite delicious. They told us they are known for the almond torte cake but were out of it the evening we went so we ordered the tiramisu and an espresso martini for dinner. The tiramisu was good but the espresso martini was not as creamy and more watered down than I like. Overall, it was a great experience and I would definitely come back to try some of their other homemade pasta dishes and hopefully the almond cake. It is probably the most authentic Italian restaurant I've been to so far in the Worcester area. read more
