Marcy's Grill is situated in the quiet little town of Leopold IN, in the middle of the Hoosier national forest. The place looks unassuming from the outside and my expectations were not high during my first visit, but boy have I been proven wrong! I have been there twice now for a Sunday afternoon lunch. During my first time, I had the fried white fish sandwich (fully dressed, with tomato, lettuce, pickle and onion) and I was struck by how good it was. The fish tasted fresh, it looked and tasted homemade. It was perfectly fried, the fish was neither over nor underdone, the crust was light and crispy, the lettuce still had slight crunch, the tartar sauce was very good, everything was just right. A simple sandwich that was done just perfectly. Who says you need a fancy preparation to enjoy a great meal? During our second visit, we noticed they served fried chicken. Normally, I prefer to eat a lighter lunch but our waitress told us it was very good so my buddy and both ordered the fried chicken. He got two pieces of white meat and I got two pieces of dark meat, with mashed potatoes and coleslaw as sides (they have other option for sides too). The fried chicken blew me away! It was fingerlickin' good as they say, the crust was light and crispy, the chicken moist, juicy and oh so tasty. The coleslaw was excellent too, one of the best I have had in a while. They make it fresh and you can tell that when you are tasting it, it was nicely dressed, and there was still a nice little crunch on the slaw. None of that premade slop that comes in tubs. The perfect counterpoint to the fried chicken. The mashed potatoes were excellent too. Foodgasm might be an exaggeration but I came close. The fact that I skipped breakfast that morning probably added to my overwhelming sense of well-being during the consummation of that meal. You know you have had an excellent meal when you feel lucky and privileged while you are eating it. Service was friendly too and prices quite reasonable. Marcy's apparently has been in business for over four decades so they must been doing something right. On their menu they claim to be best kept secret in Southern Indiana and they may very well be right. I will definitely keep coming back there. It is worth the detour from I-64, just to eat at Marcy's. Heck, I live an hour away and I would consider driving over there just to eat that fried chicken again! PS I forgot to ask if they serve the fried chicken every day or if it is only a Sunday thing so you might want to check beforehand.

Well, partner, you best steer your boots toward Smokin' Hawgs. Nestled in the old Main Street Pizza building, this joint might still be a work in progress, but it's already staking its claim as a local treasure. The inside seating might be on the cozy side, but don't let that fool you--there's ample room for comfort. And soon, a new patio with a gazebo will grace the front and side, offering a prime view of the creek that meanders beside it. While you're relaxin' and enjoyin' your meal, you'll also have a perfect view of the century-old courthouse in the town square, a grand piece of history that adds to the charm of this small town. Imagine sittin' under the gazebo, the sun setting over the horizon, and the gentle murmur of the creek as you savor every bite. That's the kind of experience Smokin' Hawgs is fixing' to offer. Now, let me tell y'all about the man behind the magic--Daryel. He's a dedicated chef and a fellow Masonic brother, rising with the rooster each morning to prepare the day's meats and sides. Every dish is crafted with pure love and passion, and it shows in every mouthful. **What we tried:** - **Brat Slider:** I took a bite, and it was like striking gold. Each morsel was a burst of flavor that had me wanting more. - **Pulled Pork Sandwich:** My wife saddled up to this dish, and let me tell ya, she's a tough critic. But this time, she cleaned her plate, leaving nary a crumb behind, except the bread. The pulled pork was plentiful, the baked beans were rich and savory, and the scalloped potatoes were creamy and delightful. - **4 Rib Meal:** My daughter chose this, and those ribs were tender as a gentle breeze, falling right off the bone. I had a taste of the beans--lip-smacking good, I tell ya. The ribs were seasoned to perfection, and each bite was a journey through flavor town. Daryel's signature sauces are the perfect sidekick to the star of the show--the meat. Each sauce complemented the flavors beautifully, adding a delightful kick that lingered on the taste buds. So, whether you're a local lookin' for your next favorite spot or just a traveler passing through, Smokin' Hawgs is worth every mile of the journey. With Daryel's dedication and the rustic charm of the place, you're in for a meal that's as memorable as a Western sunset. Giddy up and head on over to Smokin' Hawgs, where every meal is a culinary adventure crafted with heart and soul, all while takin' in the sights of the historic town square and its venerable courthouse.

I strongly recommend it. Our server, Jaelyn, was very busy, since this appear to be a place where the locals hang out. She was very friendly, and attentive. A must come back or stop by when traveling. To add, they have a salad bar as a choice. The ambiance is enjoyable, with music in the background. Their sign is a real warning: "Notice, the food is made fresh for the day, and we do run out!" With the sample and food that I had, I believe it.

Food took about 15 minutes or so to be prepared, as expected. My wife ordered pulled pork, baked beans, and Mac & cheese (which they give you a generous and delicious portion of pulled pork but she said the baked beans tasted like she was eating a fire pit (they were so smokey-tasting) and the Mac & cheese was ok but nothing special). I ordered fried cheese sticks, a pulled chicken sandwich and fries (which all tasted good but nothing particularly stood-out. They do put a nice seasoning (presumably old bay seasoning or something similar) on the fries which I enjoyed) We both got the house bbq sauce but neither of us thought it was standout good. It wasn't bad though. Overall, the food and service was good so I'd say stop-in if you are hungry for bbq, but if you're a well-traveled bbq enthusiast you may want to temper your expectations.
