I love this theater. Marcus Point is the opposite of the heartless industrial multi-plexes that have destroyed american cinema. It's one of two cinemas in Madison that I love, along with Market Square. The staff dresses in suits and act the part, and the cinema itself if beautifully decorated. It looks more like an upscale hotel than a modern theater. The screens are perfectly calibrated and the sound is excellent. The seats are also angled so that there is never a head in front of you. I'm extremely critical of the quality of a theater's projection, but have never been disappointed here. They obviously have someone employed who cares about their projection quality, and the payoff is a beautiful picture. I come here once a week usually, either for $5 Tuesdays or $5 Student Thursdays. My wife always grabs a closed captioning device, which is an easy way for foreigners and the hearing-impared to get subtitles. The device is an LED screen that attaches to the seat and receives wireless captions. In Madison, the elite rave about Sundance, but I find it vastly overpriced ($20+ per ticket after their fees!) and nowhere near as elegant as Marcus Point. MP's selection is also better, and they have an indie film series that catches a lot of eclectic titles. With no hesitation, I give 5 stars to Marcus Point. read more

We love this theater. The seating is spectacular. I love not being able to hold hands with the neighboring chair.. It's harder to try and steal a free nacho or two that way but alas I'll survive. We have enjoyed our experiences here after looking for a new movie watching spot in the area. Most of their theatres seem to be reserve seating. Their recliner seating is so comfortable! I sometimes worry about falling asleep even if I am really enjoying a film. If you get a rewards card with them, you can book at Fandango without an extra surcharge. They have plenty of specials for matinees and movies throughout the week. There is even a bar where you can enjoy a drink before showtime. read more

i wish i could rate them 0 stars. a group of 4 of us came, 2 of us are 16 and two of us are 17. we came in and they asked us for ID. how stupid. if we can drive ourselves here we can watch the dog on movie. there was no online warning(that we read) that you had to be 17. after them being meanies and not letting us in they told us we could get a refund. so anyways then they told us the only way we could get our money back was in the form of a gift card. extremely disappointing. waste of money. unacceptable. need i go on? i would not recommend this movie theatre. read more

This is one of our favorite theaters to visit. The staff is friendly. The restrooms are always clean which is important to me because of my 7 year old grandaughter's health and safety. I wish there was a motorized scooter or wheelchair to navigate the long walks to the specific theater for those of us in chronic pain with mobility issues. Point Cinema has been doing its best to lure us back out of our home theaters. Some of these endeavors have been good, some are severely lacking proper execution. And a few negative things are sort of beyond their control, although I'm not sure why any parent would think it was a good idea to take their INFANT to Captain America 2. But I digress. The IMAX screen certainly is big, but decidedly smaller than the one at Star Cinema. The seats are a massive improvement from the old style, which still haunt Market Square Cinema. The bathrooms are kept relatively clean and well-stocked. The theaters themselves are cleaned after every showing. The parking lot, however, could use some attention. For example, I've had the displeasure of walking by the same used condom on the ground of the basement level of the parking structure more than once over the past few months. The staff, on the other hand, is friendly, helpful, and very professional. One of the more annoying things that has gotten worse and worse over the years at nearly all theaters are the ads (not previews) that screen for several minutes before each movie. And half of them seem desperate to reassure you that seeing a movie in a theater is worth it! I'm already in my seat, you don't have to convince me at this point. I'd rather just get to the movie than hearing YET AGAIN about the Dolby Atmos sound system and why it is akin to the second coming of Jesus Christ. On the upside, if you're running late to a film, don't worry at ALL about getting there by the time the feature actually starts. I also don't think I have particularly sensitive ears, but good grief, the volume on some action films actually makes them painful to listen to. The selection of movies is alright, but there are next to no independent movies. Some of their oh-so-enjoyable ads keep promising that they will be bringing in independent movies in the near future, but it hasn't happened yet. As others have mentioned, Tuesdays and Thursdays are the best times to go. Tuesdays have $5 movies for everyone, and Thursdays have $5 movies for students. I believe both nights have reduced and/or free concessions, too. However, as Daniel J. mentioned, the bar is SO SLOW. They usually only have one employee, who is predictably slammed. You can only order one drink at a time, so there goes the "I'll grab seats while you get us beers" opportunity. Sundance lets me order multiple drinks at a time (imagine, someone going through TWO whole beers during a movie and not wanting to miss several minutes in the middle!), so I don't see why Point can't change this ridiculous policy. The concessions also take forever, especially the laughably-named Zaffiro's Express. The prices are all ridiculously high, as one might expect. Bottom line: it's a worthwhile trip on a Tuesday or Thursday night, when tickets are cheap. Just plan to eat and drink at home beforehand. read more

I enjoy the affordable $5 movies on Wednesday's. I recommend ordering your tickets in advance, so you don't show up and find your movie showing sold out. I'm rating the theater. It's the closest to me but is almost always a disappointment. Poor management. Today, for example, I had previously purchased tickets for Star Wars. I had my family with me. The kiosks weren't working so I went to the ticket girl to show my electronic ticket. She said she didn't have a ticket scanner so I needed to wait in line for the ticket counter for tickets I had already purchased. (Partially defeats the point of the early online purchase) 2 of the 4 seats we purchased were broken so I was uncomfortable the whole movie and as the movie was a sellout I couldn't go to any other seat. I've had problems like this in the past and it doesn't seem to get better. read more

This cinema allows minors to watch R rated movies without asking for ID cards, or parents. My daughter was allowed to watch an R rated movie and she looks not much older than 11. I have complained several times to the management to avail. I understand there are parents that don't care, but there are many that do. read more

This is by far our favorite theater in Madison. All of the theaters have dream lounges, which are recliners, and way comfier than normal movie theater seats. We also have always been able to get tickets ahead of time. There is a parking structure which is nice on winter nights, and the bathrooms have always been pretty clean. If the movie is newer you will want to buy tickets online since the new theaters have less seating, but the extra leg room makes up for it! read more

Been going to this theater since I moved here a year ago and I'm really happy with it. It's clean, the service is friendly and fast, and the concessions are decent. The seats in the theaters are comfortable and spacious and the stadium seating configuration is great. It's usually not very crowded and the movies they carry are diverse enough that there's almost always something we want to see any given weekend. The parking is easy (and covered). There has never been a long wait for tickets. The sound in the theaters is good and the picture is very clear. So far nothing but good experiences! More commercial but less uppity than Sundance. And much more wallet friendly. read more

Point has a lot going for it, which is why it continues to succeed in the Netflix era and in a town with several competitive theaters. One notable drawback: I'm disappointed that the theater doesn't have recycling bins yet serves tons if concessions in recyclable materials. How hard would it be to dedicate even one bin to recycling? I really would prefer to rate the bar, Take Five. It is awesome. Great food. Great bartenders. A bartender named jeremy checked my wine glass before pouring to make sure it was clean. Don't see that too often anywhere. Then he made a great recommendation of a reasonable off-menu cocktail for my girlfriend. Service was great. Friendly but not over-bearing. Bruschetta and spinach dip were way above average. Only complaint is that they need to register the bar on Yelp so I can give it high marks. Well done! read more

Point has always been the typical theater experience. The Ultrascreen is nice mainly because of the recliners...or at least it was at first. The staff never did a great job of explaining the new seating policy (assigned seats for the recliners), so some goers get confused unless they're familiar with it. But my main complaint came in January: Purchased tickets and reserved our recliner seats online earlier in the day. Upon entering the theater, the high school staffers were picking up the area still. We walked up to our row where we stopped because one of our seats had been vomited on during the last show...really?!? It took that long to get it cleaned up in the first place? We debated for a minute whether or not we wanted those seats, but the clincher was when we saw the young man coming up the aisle to clean it - with only a spray bottle and role of thin paper towels...no extensive cleaner, no gloves, nothing remotely safe for cleaning of bodily fluids. We approached the front desk on the always-packed Tuesday nights ($5 is nice but the teen crowd and constant mess get old fast). After waiting ten minutes to speak to a manager we were told we could be reimbursed but not for the additional online fee. Fine. I asked if we could possibly get free passes for our time and inconvenience, which were hesitantly given. This manager did not seem pleased to be reissuing anything, let alone having to talk to customers while she had other employees to do so. She swiped my credit card but did not hand it back. When I double checked my wallet with my reimbursement receipt I asked if they were finished with the card. This manager responded with a snap, "I gave it to you." I insisted I didn't have it, she again demanded she handed it back. One glance over the counter and I saw it sitting right below the computer. When I pointed it out, the teen employee handed it back while the manager scoffed away. Obviously I've been to this theater plenty, so I will say the new expansions are decent. The bar is not so much. Aside from the prices (seven dollars for a spotted cow...really?) the service is INCREDIBLY slow. One night had three bartenders working and less than ten customers at the bar, yet it still took a good ten minutes for two beers. I understand the regulations being worrisome from a legal standpoint, but one drink at a time is a little ridiculous, too. We don't want to have to leave mid-show to grab another beer, especially when it takes so long to get them. Overall, it has its moments - specifically the cheaper priced nights. But with parking being a fiasco, the cleanliness always in question, the ignorant and often rude staff, and the sound quality (like other yelpers, I've also had the surround sound blip in and out several times), I prefer Star and Sundance. read more

The staff is always helpful. I didn't know how to redeem my marcus points on the computer and they helped me out. I had to have a refund for a movie and they where helpful. A person took my seat one time and that person didn't want to move so they made sure I was able to sit in my seat and gave me free popcorn for the trouble. The theater is clean and I love the seats. Awesome seating Huge screen and one of the best sound systems around, a deluxe theater at a small price, where else can you go to a movie for around $5.00? 4 dollars if you go before 1 pm!!! The floors are always clean but the snack prices are expensive though, they do have a little deal though, 2 (small) popcorn 2 (small) sodas $2.00. that's all well and good but I like many others like to have our popcorn and soda at a good size. not to mention the fact that they have a better deal with local restaurants that if you show your stub after the movie you get a price cut on diner!!! check out they're website, all other theaters suck, Marcus RULES!!!
