This is our go to theatre on the east side. The amount of options for movie watching preferences is nice. I prefer the elite experience of the Ultra screen. It's a wider and larger screen and more crisp sound. The dream loungers are cozy for snuggling up to your partner, or for getting comfortable alone. There's plenty of space so you can escape into the movie. Also a fan of the pricing for theatre snacks. I remember when popcorn cost 13 dollars and I appreciate that Marcus keeps it under 10 for a large. Pro tip- sign up for the free rewards program. We always want the yummy buttered popcorn even if we aren't going to a movie. So on a Saturday movie night we go to the theater , get popcorn and go home and enjoy it. Most don't know this but at the beginning of the year, they offer a bucket of popcorn for $25, you keep the bucket and when you bring it back to enjoy more popcorn or go to the movie, it only costs $5 to fill that same bucket!! And this can be done throughout the year with that bucket. Shown in the picture is the bucket and the popcorn. The friendly staff also put the popcorn in a baggy so we wouldn't dirty the bucket on this visit. Normally concession items are super expensive at theaters. Not unlike most of the population I had not been to a movie in a theater in quite some time. Actually I think it has been 2.5 years - since before we moved to Madison. This was the first time I had been to this theater. During the day on Tuesdays they have a $5 special so we took advantage of that to go see a movie in a theater! We ordered our tickets online for the theater with the cushy recliner seats. If you join their "club" there is no charge for ordering online. Being during the day, even on a Tuesday, the theater was only about 25% full and with the big chairs people are well spaced out. The chairs are nice and include a seat heater (not needed this time of year). The audio and video were both very good. It was a very positive experience. read more

If you're paying a premium to see movies on the Ultrascreen, you would expect a premium experience, right? That is not what you get. The sound is nice but the screen itself is not. They don't have ultrawide screens (21x9) so you watch the movie with big black bars on the top and bottom. But the bars aren't fully black, more like very dark grey, so it is really distracting. You're better off watching a movie at him with the deep blacks of OLED. Also, the food prices are outrageous. I can only recommend coming on Tuesdays when the tickets are cheap and they actually give away popcorn. For free. Wild dichotomy there. read more

Theater was clean & the lounge seats are comfy. Sound system worked perfectly. My only complaint is 20 minutes of previews. That's just too much! Especially when none of them looked interesting. Extremely angry. Last night (July 31, 2024) wife and I were watching the 7:40 p.m. showing of "Longlegs". During the quiet suspenseful scene toward the end of the movie, as suspense was building, two of the theater's ushers decided to come into the theater and stand off to the side of the audience and watch the movie with us. OK, fine, no biggie. However, suddenly one of the usher's walkie-talkie radios starts blasting noise of some fellow worker trying to loudly talk to her through her walkie-talkie radio thing, it was loud! Her walkie-talkie radio thing even lit up; the two of them then immediately run out of theater! Between the loud noise of her walkie-talkie radio and it lighting up and the two of them sprinting out, it was unbelievably distracting, ruined the entire movie going experience for the paying customers. And they weren't responding to any emergency either bc they shouldn't have been in the theater in the first place and when we walked out a few minutes later after the movie ended they were calmly standing just outside that theater's door by the garbage receptables. Not as good as it used to be, I'm sure they took at hit due to Covid, not sure if they'll bounce back.... With so much streaming out there and prices soaring for tickets and food, I wonder if some day theaters will be a thing of the past. Theater is getting the "worn" look and the restrooms are typically quite dirty. Does not appear they any longer offer in theater dinning but people are able to still order sandwiches to carry in to the movies at the counter which is a nice option. read more

This cinema used to be top notch w great service. Now it's almost empty, customer service is poor, always broken drink machines, the magic is def gone from the experience of the theater. Also being disabled the Parking lot was not salted.. pure ice any very scary. Only two stars cause it's close and I still like going to the theater. read more

I really WANT to like this place. It's got all the key elements to really be a winner. And, okay, I don't DIS-like it, but the more times I come here, the more I just can't get over their sorry excuse of a staff. The kids behind the concessions counter are primarily who I am talking about here. No smiles, no enthusiasm, everyone appears to be just miserable! And on top of that, they move slower than molasses, which is just irritating and frustrating to the customers. The concessions are WAY over-priced, so the least you could do is TRY and make me feel good about the money I am about to fork over. I guess I just don't get it. If you really hate your job that much, leave. And why isn't management more in-tune to this? Either way, something has got to be done because the concession stand is not being handled efficiently at all. Can't beat those loungers though, amiright!?! read more

This movie theater is large and plays a lot of movies at many different times. We opted to go to an 8:30PM movie. It seemed to be the main/best selling movie in the theatre as we had to show our tickets we purchased online when we walked in the theatre and again when we were walking into the portion of the hallway where our movie was. Since it was a Tuesday, tickets were $5 before fees. I am also a member of their movie rewards program and just had to give them my phone number to get a free personal sized bowl of popcorn. I believe they only do this on Tuesdays. The seats were comfortable and could be reclined. The seats in the bistro are also heated, if you choose. In the bistro you can be served food and drinks. Bought tickets with my app and then picked up my tickets at the ticket counter - swift. We were watching a movie that was playing at the Big Screen Bistro for the second time. I'm not sure yet what to make of it. As far as the movie-it was awesome. We give it an 8/8.5 out of 10 (The Revenant). The woman hacking next to me was a little disturbing since I was eating food. I brought a blanket with me because I recall it being cool in there before and I am glad I did. I ordered a salad and then noticed that everyone around me who ordered after me were getting their food. About 5 minutes after the movie started my salad showed up. Then I had to ask for silverware. The server reached by my seat to retrieve my silverware and stated that there wasn't any there and left to go get some. TIP: the seats are set up so that the call button to order, silverware and condiments are to the right of the two seat seating section. I was sitting on the left so the silverware my server was reaching for was gone because the party of to sitting in that section rightfully used theirs for their own meal. My husband told me later that he had silverware next to him and didn't realize I was looking for some. Since the movie had started it wasn't something you wanted to make a big deal out of but it would have been a mess if I had tried to eat a chopped salad with my fingers. My salad advertised a balsamic vinegar but if there was any dressing already on the salad It was hard to tell. Next time I think I'll order the dressing on the side. Otherwise the chopped salad with chicken breast was tasty. I was paying using a gift card and they had no way of scanning my phone right there and said something about me writing a number on my bill. I said I would need a pen but a pen did not arrive with my bill. So, when the movie was finished I proceeded to pay my bill outside the door where all the servers were standing around apparently waiting for others who hadn't paid their bill yet. My gift card said it had $25 on it but when my server took my iPhone to scan it she said the balance was only $15, which was fine because that is what I was going to pay with the tip anyway. The gift cards seem to take a few days to adjust after you have made a purchase. The server I had was was somewhat snippy and took off somewhere without a word after handing me my payment to sign which seemed a little unusual for a gift card. I left my husband standing there to wait for her to get back as I was dying to use the restroom. My husband said she was not very friendly but liked to think that she was engaged but customer service was not strong and I guess I can agree with that. Bottom line, I would eat there again and watch a movie. 10-26-17. Back at the Bistro for an early lunch and a movie. I thought this theater was great - comfy seats, friendly concession people @ the bar, etc - except for two things. The first was the totally annoying ticket machines; we finally saw a person standing @ a stand & got our tickets with her. Then was the waiter/food service. They took this one step too far. Once the lights go down I do NOT want to be distracted by a bunch of annoying people walking around serving lazy customers their food!! It really takes something away from the movie I was trying to enjoy. Then we overheard idiots talking to these waiters about getting more food or whatever they were doing behind us & actually had their phone flashlight on!! After coming here more than a dozen times I gave this a second review and bumped it up a notch from a 3 to a 4. Parking is still a problem at prime time. I experienced the bistro a few times and the food was good and beer cold. Service was quick. All of the chairs are comfortable. I still struggle to find a decent seat if I want to be spontaneous and go and watch a quick flick. They could do with more restrooms. As everyone understands movies usually release everyone within a few minutes and the lines can be long. Not good when you need to go quick!!. The new cinema offers a great experience all around. It remains clean, and nice. Its a dream movie theater. There are TVs everywhere, Bright lights and a wide open space. This place meets the needs and can be used for an after work chill spot(there's a bar to the left upon entry). The added feature that I believe is great and makes this a dream theater is that you can order popcorn at the concessions, but you can also order tacos, pizza, burgers, desserts and all of the drinks from your seat. This is a dream come true theater. The seats recline, you can turn them from single reclining seat to a reclining loveseat. Tuesdays and Thursdays are the days to show up, especially with the discounted tickets. The service is great at the counter & in the theater, the staff is easily identified and thats a plus, as you can know who to contact if help is needed. The only down side is, and I have only seen this once, they have businesses trying to offer you rewards to allow them to come into your home and give you an estimate on your windows or bathrooms. I drove an hour and paid $50 so my kids could watch "My Neighbor Totoro" for movie night. We sat in the theatre for 30 minutes of blank screen (I think the projectionist had a prior 4:20pm appointment) before anything started. First up: the first 3 minutes of the R rated "Scream 4" (thankfully free of bloody murder), before more blank screen. Some time later, the feature actually starts, but suddenly we're paging way into the middle. This runs for maybe 10 minutes, before restarting the entire thing from the beginning at roughly +50 minutes from the schedule start of the movie. This would have been a 1-star review, but we were actually presented with the entire movie, so OK. Thanks for crapping up Totoro and the rest of my night, Marcus Theaters. Overall, the experience at Palace is a pleasant one. From being able to reserve tickets in advance with assigned seating, to being able to order food right to your seat in the Big Screen Bistros, it's hard to go wrong here. Other reviewers mentioned the potential drawbacks to the assigned seating. Sometimes it is hard to get good seats to an opening night unless you reserve way in advance. It is also challenging to be able to get seats with a large group. However, that is all cancelled out by not having to get in line twice so you can get good seats on opening night. The food in the bistros is solid overall, although the Zafiro's Express pizza is not even as good as a $2 Roma pizza (which I happen to like). I got a special while watching a UW Badger Football Game on a Bistro Screen, and $8 was way too much to pay for that pizza. The loaded tater tots and chicken tenders are very good, however. Make sure you order your soda in the theater as opposed to at the concession stand - it saves you at least 50 cents with unlimited refills. The only other reason I don't give the Palace five stars is that the service can still be a bit iffy in the Bistro theaters. read more

The Palace seems to have gotten into its groove. I went shortly after they opened and it was a bit of a mess - a log jam at the entrance due to kiosk placement, nowhere to park, and general confusion by staff on how to handle things like looking up tickets by credit card when the kiosks wouldn't load. Now that they've been open awhile they've made some smart changes (like lining the ticket kiosks up along the wall instead of staggered between the door and the ticket counter/entrance area). The parking lot hasn't changed, but it didn't seem to be as packed even though we were there on a Friday night for the opening of Star Wars. We bypassed the kiosks and claimed our tickets from the counter. I had a free soda for my birthday but was unable to get the app to open and load to show them my rewards account. I decided to give it a go anyway, and got in line. Most of the concession lanes had "This Lane Closed" signs, but a man behind the counter kept pointing for people to go to them anyway. I did and was helped quickly. The kid working the register was able to look me up by phone number and wished me a happy birthday. The shows were run very close together so we weren't able to enter the theater until a few minutes before the show, but the upside of assigned seating is that you don't have to worry about getting situated - just find your spot an sit and you're good to go - no need to hunt for a place your party will all fit or to ask people to scoot down. The show went off without a hitch, there's enough room between rows that people can come and go even when seats are reclined, and the sound was set at an appropriate level - I've noticed the last few times I've gone to see a movie it's seat-shakingly loud. A fringe benefit of the Palace being built is that the other theaters in town have had to up their game, making for a better all-around moviegoing experience in Madison. read more

There's no denying this theater has good bones, but it ends there. The dream loungers are a treat, and basically the only reason to choose this theater over other options, but even they can't make up for the problems the Palace seems to have in executing a great movie experience. Over my last four visits: 1. The movie wasn't downloaded when we arrived, resulting in a 30 minute delay to the start-time. 2. The theater has double sold seats (there seems to be a communication problem between the online booking system and the theater's box office). 3. Although you can purchase tickets through their app, you can't use the app to enter the theater, you must print tickets from the kiosks or box office. 4. After purchasing a ticket at the box office I realized they printed tickets for the wrong seat and had to exit the theater and go back to the box office to have it fixed. 5. The $9 cocktail I ordered was so small the cup it was in literally disappeared in the cup holder. 6. One movie crashed 10 minutes to the end. We had to wait for the projector to be rebooted and for staff to fast forward back to our place in the film. Staff say this happens frequently. There are some good deals to be had if you buy tickets at the right time, but I'd much rather enjoy my films somewhere else. read more

There is nothing wrong, in my opinion, with this movie theater. They offer dinner and beer which can be brought to your seats in the theater. I like the fact I don't have to rush to eat something before my movie which can cause a lot of anxiety for myself. They also have assigned seating which is great for when a brand new movie comes out. My first time going to this theater with my family as we have a tradition of going to see a movie on Christmas. I was surprised how early we they were open as the film that we wanted to see was showing at 7:15 and 9:30 in the morning! The whole building is HUGE! When you walk in, you see the concessions area, to the right you see several of those soda machines where you can add a million different flavors to it, and on your left there is a bar. I think that's cool, but why do I need to drink at a movie theater? I don't need a cocktail to help me fall asleep during the movie. The dark room and comfy chairs already do the trick lol. What was a new experience for me was their Bistro screen areas. They have four screens with the electric recliners with heated seats (really, is that necessary?), and they have a full service menu. Each chair has a little swivel table with a cupholder, and you can order food from sandwiches, wraps, burgers, and pizzas plus you can order drinks. A server comes up to you before the movie to take your order. I wasn't terribly hungry to have a meal, but did get a snack of the deep fried pickles. I thought they were pretty good, my Dad got the cheese curds and wasn't thrilled with them. I'm kind of glad I didn't get anything else. Just like the concessions the prices are pretty expensive. Based on what we got, I bet the meals you can get are also not worth spending the money. I don't go to a theater to eat, just to watch movies. This place is beautiful, inside and out. I love the fact they have several kiosks so you don't have to wait in line. I went to two early showings on Sunday's, before 11am and was surprised the first time when the ticket only cost $5! So any show before 11am is $5! Such a great deal and not too crowded unless you are watching a kid friendly movie on Sunday. Tons of families and kids early Sunday. I've sat in the Big Bistro both times that I went and didn't order anything to eat or drink. Other people did and service seemed fine. The seats recline and I love how you can bring up the partition...only for the seats that are connected. You should check when you purchase your tickets. I just moved here and am originally from a big city in TX and this reminds me of home. This is my go to place for movies. read more

There is a large number of screens so a large variety of movies is showing to choose from. In addition to this there is a selection in terms of the experience you want, IMAX, 3D, bistro, or even no gimmick at all. The drink machines were malfunctioning, there was ice piled up and on the floor, there was popcorn everywhere and the temperature control was terrible! The lobby was a comfy temp but the theater was hot and humid. The standards have seriously fallen; I may think twice before going back. There are other theaters to go to. As far as cinemas go I'm sure it's a step above standard. Of course they have the wonderful dinner and drink option, and who doesn't love 2-bird-with-one-stoning it? Not to mention that the food truly is very good. The seats truly are remarkable, even for someone like me who gets much too cold to stretch out. The screens do have exceptional picture. ALL OF THIS IS APPARENTLY WORTH MANYMANY DOLLARS, to many people who consistently pay it, while all the luxury is probably worth the money, most days I can't justify that the money is worth this PARTICULAR luxury. I'm sure some will adore this aspect which I despise: the audio is far too loud. It is too loud while I wear my earplugs (EVERY VISIT). Substantial volume is important. Too much causes migraines. This is a nice movie theater. Nicely located next to a shopping center. This is my first theater with a bar, food and reclining seats. I didn't get a chance to try the drinks or food but the recliners are first class. The theater has all the latest in drink and concessions that are currently pretty up to date. However the self serve drink machines are only a single person serve and creates a large line. They tried to diminish this issue by placing several of them in a row. read more

The one cashier told me tonight to just take the cotton candy for free and I told him no I would remain honest. Of course this a great and comfortable place to see a movie. I took my 83 year old mom to see a movie and decided to stop at the Take Five Lounge for a cocktail afterwards. My mom doesn't drive so didn't have an ID. They wouldn't serve an 83 year old, white haired woman an alcoholic beverage. Their policy on carding is over the top.
