I've been here so far at least on 4 different occasions and all have been spectacular. I've seen Wonka, Barbie, Soul and Migration....so far. Many more movies to come. The location cannot be beat - 36 and 694 (oakdale). I'm big on making my reservation using the app so I know exactly where I'm going to sit in my big plush red reclining chair and skip the line. Woo hoo! Also if you go to the movies frequently I would suggest doing the app and sign up for the movie rewards too! You can even order food/snacks prior to arriving. They make it soooo easy! They also have their discount day on Tuesdays! A way to save money! As a side note, some theaters run a little chilly so I always bring a cozy blanket too! A nice movie theater!! Sooooo many options for seeing movies. They have heated seats, dine in (they serve you), or just a good ole theater experience in recliner seats. They have a bar and multiple food/concession options. My first time going here, seen Little. Got here early for the dine in experience. Parking is easy as they're semi secluded and have a large parking lot. Love that you can order tickets and food for pickup online. It made the movie going experience easy. It's a little confusing in that if you join the Marcus Magical Movie Rewards you get free drink refills but the drink station itself is in its own little section, including the icee machines. It's been a while since I've been to the movies but their food options has evolved so much! Their hotdogs are great in theory but honestly hard to eat in the dark because there's a lot of condiments in it, very thankful I didn't get any on my clothes. Wow. Im from Sacramento Ca visiting. This is an extremely nice theater! The seating was extremely comfortable and recliner was very nice. The arcade area looked fun and the restaurant bar was a nice addition. I can't say if all theaters are like this but here it was a treat. Back home we have movie chains similar but thus felt more pleasing. In my opinion. Men's restroom was clean and comfortable. Parking was great and the concession stand was efficient. Good selection of treats along with food. I would recommend and if I'm back would look forward to watching a movie here again. read more

This is your standard movie theater. Yes, prices are steep here, but that's just how things are nowadays. I went here yesterday for a 8pm viewing of Inside Out 2 (such a good movie, 5/5 stars, but this isn't a view for the movie). I got last minute tickets and the only tickets left were front row, but with the reclining seats, I didn't have to crane my neck to see the screen. Overall this theater is good enough. The place is clean, but as a professional carpet cleaner, I can't help but question the state of the theaters carpet. There's not many theaters left in the area so I guess I get what I get and can't throw a fit. Oh well! read more

This is my second time at Marcus Oakdale. My sister and I saw the movie Ordinary Angels on a Friday night at 9:30pm. Theater was fairly busy, but not surprised considering it was the weekend. Being heading it the movie, we stopped at the concessions for a beverage and popcorn. The gentleman at the counter didn't seem very eager to help us. However, we got our items and went on our way. Popcorn was fine, nothing special. Theater was clean. The staff we crossed paths with didn't say anything. Undecided if I'd return to this theater or not. read more

One of the nicest movie theatre's in the Twin Cities: clean, well-staffed with people who are friendly and attentive, clean restrooms and high quality movie presentation. The Ultrascreen auditorium here has to be one of the largest auditoriums--and movie screens--in the state, rivaling AMC's Imax. It's a drive to get there, but worth it. Also fun to enjoy a decent meal and a cocktail at the Take Five Lounge before or after a movie. This place has got it all. read more

I feel terrible saying this because the staff has been quite nice. There are now two movies I have gone to see where the projector bulb was on the fritz or the projector itself was out of focus. Worst part about this? The staff is unable to do anything with the projectors if something is wrong. Literally, they have to schedule a technician to come out and adjust the focus of the projector -- they cannot do it themselves or aren't allowed to. So I watched Indiana Jones & the Dial of Destiny in extremely soft focus, without detail. The staff acknowledged the focus problem and saw it for themselves but couldn't do anything about it during the movie. read more

Good seats, spacing and sound- we just the latest Quiet movie. Most of the family liked it. I found it a 'sleeper' and had to be nudged a couple of times...the seating was SO comfy. The experience is great with a bar and food you can order - yes, real food. My son had a burger and loved it. He said it tasted fresh- not frozen...sadly my chicken fingers should have been thrown out a couple of months ago. Over cooked, so crunchy with a hard breading that there wasn't much chicken flavor. Poor quality... so, I may have to return to the White Bear theater next time. read more

Got a recommendation from a family member to go here. We got tickets online which doesn't speed anything up but does reserve your seats. We got some drinks at the bar. Donald was our server and he was the best. Good service and friendly. After that we found our seats( why to the seats rows start with the number 8 and end with 21?) Anyway comfortable seats and lots more room than a regular theater. Top gun was an awesome movie. Sound system was great without being violently loud. All in all a great movie experience. read more

I have always loved this theater, but a recent experience has made me feel that I may not be coming back. Last weekend, my husband and I went to see a Saturday afternoon movie here. We go a few weekends a month. On this Saturday, we ordered food ahead. With the movie and the food we paid over $50. The theater was pretty packed. We were seated in the D aisle right by the stairs. Shortly before the movie started, an older couple (50s or so?) came in and seemed very confused. They walked up the stairs passed us and talked loudly to the people seated directly behind us. They did not seem to know these people, and it was clear they couldn't figure out where their seats were. After wandering around the theater, talking loudly, they settled into seats in the C row right in the middle, so they were kiddy corner in front of us. Throughout the previews, they talked loudly, as if they were in their own living room. It was annoying and I hoped they would be quiet once the movie started. No such luck. They talked throughout the movie. The woman got up several times, and it became clear that she was drunk. About halfway through the movie, my husband finally went out to find an usher. My husband came back. Ten minutes went by. No usher. 20 minutes went by. No usher. I actually shushed them. They didn't hear me. My husband finally got fed up, went over to them, and asked them to be quiet. Shortly after, the usher finally decided to show up. Surprise surprise, we'd already spoken to them, and the drunks were doing their best to keep their mouths shut. After the movie we left. It didn't seem that asking for a manager would really matter, since the usher didn't seem to care about the movie being ruined for us. I sent an email that same day, explaining the situation. A week went by. Finally, I got really mad. I sent a message on FB asking why it is that no one seems to care about the spoiled movie or the waste of $50. No surprise, a manager got back to me. At first she claimed she couldn't even find my email. Just goes to show they must not check it and don't care about customer complaints. Although she told me she would figure out how to give a refund (she's a manager and doesn't know how to give a refund?) and send me free tickets, she also tried to admonish me by saying we should have asked for a manager right away. Oh really? And waste MORE time missing the movie? Seriously? Basically she was like "hey sorry about that, but you should have done that." Terrible customer service. This exchange happened today. I will edit my review if I ever actually receive my refund or not. Word to the wise: go to Alamo instead. At least they care about people who disrupt movies and kick them out, rather than being rude to those of us who dare to complain. read more

This is are go to place for Movies. However, the attached pictures are gross and a health hazard. The self serve beverage area hasn't been wiped down in at least a month. As you can see with the THICK layer of dust on top of the napkin and soda lid dispenser. Mgmt should be incredibly embarrassed. This place is bomb. $5 Tuesday for any movie all day. $6 for 3d...whaaat? $11 all other days for reserved seating and recliners. If in the big screen bistro theater you can order food and they bring it to your seat. They even bring you beer although I don't drink but figured some of you folks might enjoy that. About God damn time. Like why did it take this long? Booze in the theater. Can't believe I had to wait this long in to my life for movie theaters to start doing the obvious - let adults have adult beverages. What in the hell was the hold-up? Was the concern about unruly customers? Were they worried about people getting up and down to go to the bathroom too often? The worries were not justified - It was so long overdue. My one less than five is only minimally Marcus' fault. I've just had unbelievably bad luck two out of the three times that I have seen a movie here. The first time here I saw St. Vincent (great movie - first time I have cried at a movie since Turner & Hooch) and would have gone five stars for this place all the way. So nice to have a recliner seat with a brew dog. Then the trouble started. Second time back I saw Horrible Bosses 2. Had a teenage kid who would not stop fidgeting with his stupid legs sitting next to me. The reclining seats are all attached, so he was shaking everyone around him or at least on both sides of him. Funny side note - after the movie in the lobby, saw that he was with his mother who was a former co-worker of mine. Did my best to let it slide. Third time back today. Wanted to see American Sniper, but Selma fit better with my schedule. Seat was so comfy that I fell asleep for a good chunk of the movie. Great movie of what I saw of it, though. One major thing that pissed me off was I had an old couple to my left who would not STFU throughout the entire movie. I did not ask to sit next to Siskel & Ebert, you asshats! Really, you didn't know MLK smoked a cigarette once in awhile? I don't give a shit about your random observations and endless commentary. Get back to the trailer park, you two. I live very close to this theater and when I was younger I would come here often. Marcus has improved a whole lot since my childhood. They have alcohol and "real" food that you can order. I am actually impressed on how good the pizza tastes and how yummy the tator tots were. The other things that is really nice about the theater includes the comfy reclining seats. When you buy tickets you choose the seats that you sit in. That makes it very convenient so you don't have to walk up and down the aisles looking for a seat, you already know where to sit. They have $5 movies on Tuesdays and only $1 more for a 3D movie. read more

The best place to take a date where you can cuddle up under a blanket in a comfortable leather recliner love seat. It is always clean, the sound and screens look great, the seats are the best and if you join the movie rewards program, you can reserve seats through their app without a convenience fee. I like to reserve seats a few days ahead and get the best ones. Then, you can just arrive when when the movie is about to start and still get the best seats. All of the seats are assigned so if you don't get your seats ahead of time, you should get there early to get the best seats. They have put a lot of money into this location and it shows. There is a lovely cocktail lounge where you can enjoy a good meal and drinks before the show (or have a meal in one of the special bistro screening rooms). There is also a separate option to get pizza and concessions. Incidentally, their prices are pretty good for meals and the concessions aren't too outrageous. Any movies is $5 on Tuesday and movie rewards members get a free 44 oz popcorn with drink purchase. read more

We used to love this theater, but it is going downhill fast. My husband and I just saw Oppenheimer, which is an excellent movie, and the sound was so bad we couldn't hear all of the dialogue. The food isn't great and the place is dirty. Half of the concession counters were closed, so we had to stand in a long line for drinks. The owner seems like a nice person, but I think he should spend more time paying attention to the quality of his theater than making videos for the previews. We'll be going to Alamo Drafthouse or AMC from now on. read more

I went to watch the second movie in the Kingsmen series. This theater was one of the best I've been to! The reclining seats were awesome - not to mention the heated seats! I went on a Tuesday and got free popcorn and the movie tickets were only $5! That's definitely a steal for a movie in a theater with reclining seats and all. We bought our tickets online ahead of time which made it easier for us to get into the theater quickly and have pre-selected seats. I didn't go to the Bistro in the theater this time, but I'll have to try it next time I'm there. Can't wait to go back! read more

Marcus is typically my go-to* because of its comfort and location. There are great perks if you join the rewards program and it's super easy to purchase tickets through the app. I like being able to reserve my seat and order right from my reclined position (this option is available in the Big Screen Bistro auditoriums). As far as the food goes, it's hit and miss. There's nothing special here just your run of the mill burgers, etc. Tuesday is $5 movie day, which I've seen a lot of other theaters begin to offer, but it's nice that it extends to all movies and not just a certain few. The one drawback to ordering tickets through the app is that once you're near or inside the actual building it's nearly impossible to get service, so you'll have to stand in line to have them pull up your information. Have that thing pulled up before you get there! *We're getting an Alamo Drafthouse. This is a game changer! If you want to see a movie without dealing with cell phones in your face, that will be the place to go. I have high hopes! read more

We hadn't been to a movie here in a while.. saw the haunted mansion and the screen went dark right as the story line was starting to pick up and it was off for a while until multiple people left to go speak to someone. I absolutely LOVE this theater. My family and I used to go to a different one, and decided to give this one a shot, and we have never gone back. I absolutely LOVE that there are several theaters that you can order actual food, and drinks, and have them delivered to your seat. I think that is just great. Also, the food isn't incredibly over priced, about the same that you would see in a restaurant in Woodbury. Also, the new renovations allowed them to put a bar in the theater, I have not had the chance to experience that, but every time I go in, there are people sitting at the bar. So there must be something good over there!. Also, I absolutely love the new reclining seats, and I enjoy that you can lift all of the arms so that you can make it into a 2 seated sofa chair if you would like. The only thing is that no matter what I wear, I am always FREEZING in this theater, so I have started to bring a blanket with me, and I'm not the only one! They are 100% okay with you bringing in your own blanket and stuff to the theater so that you are as comfortable as possible. I really LOVE that about this place! read more

Great theater especially with all the remodeling they've done. This place has it all (except for an arcade? I couldn't figure out if it just moved or went away entirely). Popcorn is decent but not made fresh in front of you which irks me. They fill the popcorn cases from huge plastic bags. I used to work at a movie theater and we only kept popcorn in those bags if it was old so it weirds me out. (Definitely better than AMC popcorn though). Drinks are self serve so it's great for refills! I haven't personally had food from their cafe because I feel that they are overpriced and there's not much I would want to get anyway besides popcorn. What I have heard from friends though is not good. I have a friend who got sick from the Swiss burger and the other said the artichoke dip was not good. Overall the lobby feels very cramped when it's full but the auditoriums are spacious yet cozy. read more

This is how movie theaters should be okay, paid 10.00 bucks for two adults to sit in the best recliners most comfortable seats to watch the new Star Wars movie. You also can purchase a wide variety of food and adult drinks for your pleasure. I have not been to a movie theater in years. I can't sit quietly through a movie at home. I decided to try out Marcus. I was purchasing tickets at a kiosk, which I have never seen before at a theater, and I sort of took too long and there were no more seats left just like that. When I realized what happened I wanted to punch the machine. We went home that day. On my second attempt I did some research beforehand. I signed up for their rewards program, downloaded the app, and purchased tickets on the app several hours in advance. We also went on a Tuesday, $5 tickets!!! We were finally going to see a movie in a theater, I did it. I felt like I was entering a new world at this theater. It's just been that long since I've been to one. I kept pointing like oohhh they have a bar, they have a whole pizza counter, they have a kitchen, they have free refills on beverages, look at all the food options, checkout the recliners!!! I've definitely been missing out. Prices, aside from $5 tickets, were fairly high, as expected at a theater. We got a kiddie combo with a small serving of popcorn, fruit snacks, a tiny icee, and an order of pretzel bites with cheese. It came out to about $14. I refilled on my icee just to feel like I was getting my money's worth. The recliners were super comfy, felt like home, I was so relaxed. Service was fine, it's a bunch of young kids who don't really care to be there, but that's expected. I'll be back for sure, but I'd do a Tuesday again to get the $5 deal. read more

I'm re-reviewing this theater now that they have their new "Big Screen Bistro" service in full swing. I dropped it down a star because it's so shaky. This theater in the outer St Paul suburb of Oakdale (easy to get to despite this distance; it's right where Highway 36 and 694 meet) has a lot going for it. I go here pretty regularly from St. Paul. The chief virtue of this theater is their "Dreamlounger" seating. Every seat in every auditorium is a plush recliner with a footrest. No other theater in the Twin Cities comes anywhere near this level of luxury, not even the VIP section of the Showplace Icon. If sitting comfortably is your top priority when choosing a movie theater, you have found your new favorite theater. The largest auditorium is the "Ultrascreen", which is impressively large. It's one of the largest screens in the Twin Cities, and it's a great place to see a big visual spectacle. Like the Showplace Icon, you reserve your specific seats when you buy your ticket. I'm a big fan of this. You can really assure yourself decent seats without having to show up at the theater an hour early and wait in a line at the auditorium. Their big new feature is "Big Screen Bistro". They've turned three of their auditoriums into restaurants, basically. The seats have table-tray-things with menus on them waiting for you when you arrive. Waiters come to your seat and take your order pretty much just like a restaurant. The idea is that people will come to the movie a half hour early (due to show schedules they can't let you in any earlier than that), order their food, and have it delivered before the show starts. But in practice, they can't get to everyone in that half hour unless it's a slow time. So you'll likely sit there for more than a half hour before anyone even talks to you. The trailers will start and you'll wonder if you'll actually get to order at all, even if you got there a half hour in advance. I've done this four times now, and that was the case three of those times. The other time was a slow weekday evening. The food was fine; I'm easy to please, although I didn't care for the chicken tenders. But I won't be doing Big Screen Bistro again. I really didn't like arriving hungry and waiting so long to even be able to place an order. A lot of that food, maybe even all of it, can be ordered at the regular concession stand no matter which movie you're going to. So there's that. They also have a bar/lounge deal where you can order the same beer and cocktails and stuff from the Big Screen Bistro menu. So I'll regularly go to this theater still, but the execution of Big Screen Bistro is bad enough that I'll strongly advise against planning on using it. read more

Come here for the seats - they are amazing. Picture electric recliners with a small table that swings over your lap. It was easily the most relaxing experience I've ever had in a movie. We've visited several other theaters that serve full meals and drinks. The service here was great, the prices fair and the food quality better than I expected. Stick with food that you are comfortable eating in the dark. Don't come here if you get upset about small noises during the movie. Most of the service is done before the show really starts, but people are going to be eating near you. If the idea of that bugs you, then consider a different theater. Marcus theatre is off of 694 and 36. Quite easily accessible and close to me and the usual theatre I go to. I love how they have dream loungers, the bistro and among other things they've added and updated. I also like how they do $5 Tuesdays, but it's usually busy. Try to get your tickets early if you plan to go on Tuesdays. In addition, I love how you can buy tickets on their mobile app-- makes it so much easier. This is my usual go to theatre, not only is is closer to me, I love the new updates they have. I chose the bistro theatre; what I like is there are menus when you sit down. Whenever you're ready, you press a button on the table and a sever is on the way to get your orders. I ordered fries and a drink-- total of $13 for the two. Fries came with side of ketchup and the mango mojito was good; just wished it tasted a bit more mango. read more
