I went later at night on a Tuesday. Tickets are $5.50 on Tuesdays which is nice. They have actual ticket stubs, which I like. They have Kiosk you purchase your tickets from - 1 was down. Even if you purchase tickets online they want you to scan them in on the kiosk. Concessions seemed to be closing down as I got there. There were 2 employees just standing around. My movie was in screen 3 upstairs, I took the escalator up, but needed to use the bathroom before the movie started, which the sign said was upstairs. If you take the escalator up you have to go back down stairs to the bathroom - it's halfway between floors I guess. The upstairs is 'The Shining themed'. Very cool. When I walked into the theater I had to double check my ticket. It was so messy, popcorn all over the floor, under seats, on seats, left behind trash, just a mess. Looked like they hadn't cleaned all day or a few days.. that's crazy before it's only like 4 screens here. The seats are upgraded to heated recliners which is nice but I found that you really had to look up because the seats are on a slant vs risers. But super grateful for the comfortable seats. read more

Wow! If you've never had the pleasure of seeing a movie at the Edina theatre, it's time to try it out! I visited on a Friday night to see wicked, and it was such a pleasant experience. The entry way is nostalgic and calm, you buy a ticket on a self service kiosk, then head to the concessions. I got a small popcorn, loaded it up with butter and salt then headed upstairs to the theatre. The elevator ride up is so special as you pass into the gold bar! What a cool unique aspect to a movie theatre. Then I found my seat just as the movie was beginning and to my delight the chairs were incredibly comfortable, with reclining features as well as heated seats! Much better than the seats at amc theatres. I'll be coming back to the Edina theatre solely because of the comfort level -- oh and tickets were cheaper here than they would have been at AMC. read more

What a great movie theater! The location is perfect near 50th & France. Although it's a busy area, there are plenty of parking options with ramps and street parking nearby. It's also close to a number of shops and restaurants. The theater itself is charming and cozy. The seats were super comfortable- reclining and the option to have a heated seat. A few negatives are that some of the theaters are upstairs but they do have an elevator for folks unable to navigate a few flights of stairs. The ticket kiosk was not working when we got there and it was not clear who to talk to about it. Thankfully the workers at the concession stand were friendly and helpful, but it's not ideal to have to wait in the concession line or interrupt people buying snacks in order to ask ticketing questions. Overall great theater and will definitely be back! Probably to watch Wicked again :) read more

I went to see a showing of Frozen with my daughter and some family friends. First of all, I think it's a cute idea to encourage attendance by advertising a photo op with characters from the movie and by offering some cute on theme snacks. Definitely an incentive to get people out of their living rooms and into the theater. I also loved the upstairs gold decorated room; I read reviews that it was based on decor from the shining but it felt very art deco and great gatsby to me, since I haven't seen the shining. Here is the not so good.. so mine in our party was wheel-chair bound and we were told that the elevator had just broken an hour before we got there. We didn't get an I'm sorry or any other solutions. There really should be a way to notify individuals who purchase an accessible ticket if the movie is no longer accessible (our movie was upstairs). I really didn't like how this situation was handled. Also, 30 min into our movie there was a power issue and the movie turned off. It was off for 15-20 min and they got up and running. Based on reviews, this isn't a one-off issue so hopefully they can troubleshoot what is causing all these power outages for them. read more

I love this place but they are going to go out of business if they don't have a ticket taker. You buy your tix before entering the lobby and nobody takes your tix so I'm sure they have a lot of sneak ins. This theater is under new management and had a notable post-COVID glowup. They replaced the seats with the same very comfortable recliners that are used at Emagine theaters, but they made the news for updating the interior design to specifically honor the classic horror movie The Shining. Specifically, the mezzanine level concession area is now a bar that resembles the ballroom bar from the movie, and the restrooms are the same red-and-white scheme from a scene in the movie. (I came in the afternoon and the bar was closed, with a gate surrounding it, ruining the view.) When I came for the first time since the pandemic, they were unable to start the movie. I was clearly the first one to inform them that, after eight minutes, the full theater was still waiting for something to happen. After twenty minutes I gave up; as I was getting my ticket refunded they clearly still didn't know what the problem was. They refunded my ticket purchase, but, like any other theater, they can't do anything about the fact that you paid movie-theater money for concessions that you now won't be enjoying during a movie. I paid $13.50 for a small drink and a small popcorn that I wound up abandoning half-finished. If you're curious about that Shining stuff, I recommend just ducking in and looking at it sometime, then going to see an actual movie somewhere else where the lights dim and the screen images start to flicker at the scheduled showtime. read more

Terribly rude staff (2 guys) on the night of 2/22/25. I paid $31 ticket/popcorn/soda...and they didn't even give me my soda. I ended up just walking to my movie because I didn't want to have to interact with the immature staff again. So I wasted my money on a soda they didn't give me. On the way back out after the movie was over, the unprofessional 2 guys were just standing there, staring. So creepy and rude. read more

Damn. This is a nice theater. The outside has a great vintage vibe, and the inside is a fun blend of retro and modern. Huge, comfortable seats that recline (and I think have butt warmers), clean bathrooms with tons of stalls, a really fun bar that is pretty much entirely coated in gold-colored panels, and a great selection of concessions and films. There are lots of options for buying tickets, and you get to reserve the exact seats you want, another huge win. The location is also great--it's near parking, shopping, and dining, so you can easily make an afternoon or evening night out. If you're in the area and planning a date, afternoon with friends or family, or we'll-deserved night to yourself, consider visiting this neighborhood and taking in a film or two. read more

I was at the Edina theater recently and was blown away by the renovations. The venerable old theater had become down at the heels but it has now been modernized and redecorated. The antiquated straight backed theater style seats have been replaced by modern comfortable recliners. The upstairs lounge area has been refurbished and now accommodates a bar. The face lift has given this institution a new lease on life. The whole 50th and France area now has a variety of interesting restaurants and there is lots of free parking. The area is safe and very attractive. I highly recommend going there for a meal and a movie as streaming can't compare with watching a movie on a big screen with full sound effects and an audience. read more

Really cool how the Mann family renovated the great old Edina Theater. As a movie-lover, what a delight it is to see the care they put into updates and making it unique. I'm nitpicking here, but I wish they had added some stadium-style seating because it still feels like you're kind of looking up at the screen. My wife and I are grateful we live within walking distance to 50th & France and enjoy a cocktail in the beautiful Gold Room Bar before catching independent fare or the latest blockbuster. Been going here since the remodel and we love it. Great place to see a movie, very reasonable prices, and feels like a neighborhood gem.

Their renovation is complete! Theater is open. Recently went here to see the movie "The Banshees of Inisherin" on a weekday evening. Inside the entrance foyer, there are self-service kiosks attached to the left wall where you can purchase tickets, if you wish. Otherwise, go inside the lobby to purchase your ticket at the concessions counter. What a transformation inside this area! Looks more like an AMC Theater than a unique neighborhood theater. Absent was the aroma of freshly-popped popcorn. Because of that absence, I did not opt to buy any popcorn. In fact, no popped corn was even visible inside their huge bin behind the counter. And if you want "real" butter, you'll have to pony-up an extra $2! There's a self-select soft drink dispenser for filling your purchased cup on your own. Going up the escalator, you're expelled into a grand, shiny-golden walled "lounge and bar" area with tables and chairs spaced all around which you must pass through to get to the theaters up there on the third floor. The HUGE chairs in the viewing room ought to have simple operating instructions clearly posted so that patrons have the opportunity to know how to properly position and adjust their seat to their liking. The seat seemed fairly comfortable for my body size. A nicely renovated ladies room down on the second floor - the "RED ROOM" level. Parking ease is available in the adjacent ramp. read more

A Cinema rather than a theater. Films you may not find otherwise. Saw Where's My Cohn yesterday. Good historical piece. Next on my list is Judy Garland. Environment - a few clean theaters under one roof. Stairs, escalators and a noisy elevator for access. Adequate snack bar. Friendly and knowledgable staff. Parking is a challenge, especially those with a walking disability. Good restaurants in the area. read more

What a great experience. The seats and auditorium was great. Clear well balanced sound and great screen illumination. This is going to be one of my favorite Theatres in the twin cities. I worked as projectionist at the Edina during the past several owners and Manns are operating it right. The bar was great and needs to be experienced by all. One of the drinks pays homage to Benji Mann, one of the owners. I would love to see more Theatres renovated with a similar type theme! Great job and I wish you great success with this Theatre. I understand they plan on having plays in one of the auditoriums in the future. This should do well in Edina. We just came here last night to see Collette since this was the only theater in the Twin Cities to show it. Parking can be a bit hectic so just park at the garage behind the B&L grocery store. The place may seem worn down but still manages to put out some great independent and foreign films. Prices are a bit steep for a place in this condition but it has to keep appearances. I do have to say the matinee prices are pretty reasonable at $7 per person. It could be worse in Minneapolis downtown I suppose. The theater is pretty large and nice to spread out. It is an older crowd so you can expect more polite people who do not talk loud or bring kids. Overall, we will come back again to see another film that AMC, Regal, or Marcus is not showing in our neighborhood. read more

Landmark theater? Try more like a skidmark theater. Pigpen's underwear is more fresh and clean. I cannot believe the state of this theater. I came by for the first time in ages, and, after looking it over, I can say that nothing has changed since about 1995 when Cineplex Odeon ran it. Seriously, this place is so old and dilapidated that it makes me wonder how long it will stay open. Who wants to pay Landmark cinema prices to see a movie in a retched theater like this. Now, I love the theater, itself. It's got history, and I've seen so many great movies here over the years, but something's gotta give. Get with the program Landmark, or sell the place and let someone who cares rehab this place. I only hope that Edina doesn't give up on it and razz the place. They have wonderful Sundance type of films, the seat are definitely older and smaller/ you do not get the comfort/ luxury of the the newer theaters but the films the decide to show make up for that read more

This theater has seen some better days but this is also what contributes to its character. Situated at the popular 50th and France in the trendy area of Edina, this theater does tend to be the recipient of more independent films and not always the typical top box movies. In fact, I had not been here in some time and what brought me here was the only theater that was showing "Loving" in the entire Twin Cities, before it opened up to a broader audience. This theater definitely has some history and it would be neat to see it restored to its former glory. There are even remnants of ash trays in the Ladies Room. We paid $10 a ticket for a Sunday afternoon movie. There are a couple of free parking ramps nearby and lots of great restaurants and shops surrounding the theater. read more

For an art house theater it really doesn't have that indie vibe to it. The films are definitely geared towards the over 50 crowd, and while there's nothing wrong with it, be prepared for a the general din of said crowd; the gesticulations, grunts, groans, coughs, and not-so-subtle conversations during the movie. It was 20 minutes into the film before people settled! Then as if a signal was given, the din erupted again an hour or so later. I'm not poking fun at people here and it's not an indictment of the Edina Theater, only giving a head's up. It is what it is. During a tense, dramatic movie it can be quite distracting to hear knitting needles clacking behind you and conversations at the end of your isle from people who want 'everyone' to hear how their son is taking their granddaughter to her first whatever. Save it for Thanksgiving dinner. That being said, I fully expect to return at some point and hopefully it'll be more satisfying. read more

great theater, but gosh darn it, why won't they let you bring in your own drink? I mean, we just spent 18 bucks on a "matinee" but stopped for a mocha at caribou. So now we have chug our beverage (which will result in a bladder emergency mid way through the movie). Oh right, I get it. You want me to buy YOUR overpriced coffee and treats. That's my only complaint. The rest of the theater is wonderful. Great people, great movie selections, parking is a snap. But gosh darn it, the beverage thing really irked me. She was nice about it and explained that we had 20 min before the movie started, and with that an additional 10 min of previews, so plenty of time to consume our beverages in the lobby. We sat for a minute and then found our seats. With our caribou beverages. Ya. I know. I'm a rebel. Next time I'm going to bring a full blown picnic - blanket, cheese, wine, crackers, you name it. read more

I have driven past this theater many times and this was our first time stopping in for a show. The facade is beautiful but the interior could use an update. As others have noted the layout of the theatre is a little odd, most likely due to the small footprint of the building. Once you get to your theater the space is nice and the picture and sound are everything you would expect from a modern theatre. We were here to see The Imitation Game, the Edina Theatre shows mostly independent and small budget films. We had a fun time, we would definitely come back to see another movie here. read more

After going to the Uptown Landmark, I was thinking this theater would have the similar old-school feel to it, but it didn't, which sort of disappointed me. It's still got a little bit of an older feel to it, but lacked the retro charm of the Uptown. On the other hand, it had four screens which works better if you want to go but don't have a plan on what to see, unlike at the single screen Uptown. The workers were friendly and polite, and the theater was clean. The seats were a little uncomfortable, but the show started on time without the huge barrage of ads that come when you see a showing at a mainstream theater. You won't find your typical blockbusters here, but I definitely encourage you to see an independent movie here - you have to experience it at least once. Because of the type of movies shown here, I wouldn't recommend this for families with younger kids simply because the type of movies shown really are for more of an older overall audience. read more

The Edina Theater is our go-to spot for Academy Award nominated films in the Twin Cities. This year we saw 'The Imitation Game', 'The Theory of Everything', 'Whiplash', and 'Grand Budapest Hotel' here. The theater is not nearly as updated and modern as say ICON Showplace at West End in St. Louis Park (our go-to for mass release movies). But, it is clean, comfortable, has a decent snack bar, and always has space. However, if you are a person who comes late to movies you will likely be relegated to the less desirable seating options, as the best tend to fill up quickly. Prices are reasonable, the movies are always top-notch, and we've never been sold out. Will keep coming back as long and the movies keep rolling! read more

Wow. This theater is chocked full of old people. We're talking full to the brim. This isn't a problem unless you get behind them when you are trying to make a speedy exit. I like this theater, it always has good movies that they don't show in the megaplexes and the showings usually aren't too busy. They also seem to have a lovely snack collection. Adult tickets are $9 (even for a matinee) which isn't bad at night but kind of high if you are seeing a movie during the day. They do have a Senior Discount though! The seats are comfy and the screen is nice. All in all this is a solid theater just be sure to pick an aisle seat so you can bolt when the credits roll. read more

In general, I like this theater. It shows a lot of the movies that I like, it's in an adorable neighborhood, the parking is free, they've got fun seasonings for your popcorn. Only a couple of things bother me. First, as previous reviewers have noted, the crowd that frequents this theater doesn't really seem to be inclined to be quiet and let others enjoy the movie. It is what it is, but it really can be frustrating at times. The other thing is the seats. They're quite narrow for those of us who have a more sizeable behind; I always seem to have to contort myself into a weird position for a few hours. The great movies are generally worth it. But I admit that if I find the same movies playing at a more cushy AMC, I may be inclined to sell my soul (or at least my business) to the soulless corporate behemoth that thinks to make a little room for my booty. read more

I have no complaints about the Edina Theater. The staff there are really trying to keep it going despite declines in movie attendance due to DVDs, Netflix and the like. They are very friendly, the place is clean, the popcorn is popped there, they have a reasonable size bottle of water, and the art films they show are an eclectic mix that skews in my favor. So, you see it's got everything I love. We were there last night for "The September Issue" (loved it!) and it was packed. Normally waiting in lines is irritating but the Edina Theater handled the crowds efficiently and started the movie on time. The biggest complaint is the movie-goers that frequent the theater. They (we) tend to be a privileged, entitled lot with lots of individualism and demands. I once witnessed a guy screaming about something at the concession stand--upper middle class white guy just wanting his way. The poor manager was trying to calm him down but he could only see his point of view. Whoa. People talk. They stand up and linger during the credits. They won't let you merge in the parking ramp. Everyone wants there way and believes they deserve it, now So, it's important to go when the privileged masses of humanity won't grate on your nerves. read more

Out of the three Landmark Theaters in the Twin Cities area, the Edina is probably my least favorite. The movies the Edina gets are usually the indie films that are geared more towards a more general or older audience, and it reflects in the people that show up (not that the older crowd is an issue at all, just throwing that out there). The layout of the theater is weird. There's four screens, and two of them are upstairs and have you take an escalator to them, and the bathrooms are on the level in between. Once again, that isn't an issue, it's just weird. Like The Lagoon, the theater itself could probably use some updates in seating and projection/sound quality, but it's still a good theater. Parking is free and close by which is nice, and there are a lot of good restaurants nearby. All in all, it's a good theater, and is worth coming to for the movies it gets. read more

This theatre is great! It has a very old feel to it (building is old). The tickets are concessions are cheap, free parking in the back. The films they get are always top notch indie/art house films. I'm usually there once a week with a smile on my face the whole time. All the staff is really great especially Ellie. If she is working you're in good hands. read more

Absolutely love this place! Although they only offer a small selection of movies, the movies that are offered are bound to blow your mind. Sometimes a foreign movie can be a little bit too foreign for my taste for a simple date night, so be sure to know what kind of movie you're in for before you go. It is a little bit on the pricey side and often pretty busy, but it's clean and comfortable. Even though it can be busy, I am almost never annoyed by the crowds and usually quickly forget they are even there. I've gone here on dates, with friends and even with my family. It has never let me down. Be aware of long lines on Friday and Saturday evenings and enjoy! read more

The woman dealing with tickets was a snarky unpleasant person to customers. She told me that she has worked there for 13 yrs and she knows that there is no senior discount unless you are 65. Recently saw a film in theater #3 and the projector was terrible. Thousands of red pixels against white images and there were two dead green pixels against dark images. It was a big dis traction for what was a beautiful foreign film. When I pay top dollar for a current film I expect the projection to be of high quality. Instead it wasn't. I will not go back until I hear this has been fixed. read more

I love this theatre because of their movie selection, size and parking. However, when I attend an early matinee, (when the doors first open for the day) I am very suspicious about the freshness of their popcorn as well as the topping. I always wonder if it is a holdover from the prior evening. I have asked on more than one occasion if it was just popped and the answer is always yes...but it is neither hot nor tastes fresh. When a friend and I did not feel well after having it recently, I question that the topping is fresh. At over $5.00 a bag this is inexcusable. read more
