Rundown theater with nothing in the proximity…read more It's old. I remember was this theater first opened, probably in the late 90's to early 2000's. I saw the first Fast and Furious film here. This theater was amazing when it first came out. Now, compared to the AMC's in KC and the home theater experiences you can buy for cheap, this place is not much. We went and saw Deadpool 2. Pretty funny movie, but the seats were broken. The popcorn looked old and stale, we didn't buy any. Everything had a kind of sticky vibe to it. The arcade had a couple broken machines; we didn't play anything but checked it out. It's an old theater. It's kind of fun because you're on vacation, but most of positive memories here are simply nostalgic value. Don't come expecting the same quality you'd get in a big city.

Retro theater is going strong…read more This small movie theater is still alive because of the college as they give a great student discount on tickets. If they didn't have that I am not sure it would stay afloat. Here you have to buy directly at the ticket counter or prepaid online, but no assigned seats so you need to go early or you risk not being sat with your group. The screen rooms are not stadium seating so its a slight lower slope. A seat in the back at this place is actually the best. The seats are leather material but do not recline or have any features like adjustable arm rests -- just a comfy chair. The concessions are mid and lack luster so I recommend eating before your film and just enjoy a box of candy and slushy there if you need to. For accessibility it's decent with the accessibility parking on the side. They need automatic doors. The bathroom smelled awful so I just washed my hands and got out.

I cannot comment on the concessions since I haven't bought any though

My BIL bought the tickets online so we didn't have to deal with getting tickets there. The girls at the concession counter were AWESOME. They were so friendly and helpful and never seemed annoyed when we came up for our 10000x refills. The theater we were in wasn't huge but it was big enough. But the seats were AMAZINGGGGG. So comfy!! If Regal is trying to run off their paying customers they have found a sure fired way to do it. Regal are you trying to run off and annoy your paying customers or just certain ones! Rhetorical question. The seats we sat in were somewhat comfortable although they were very worn and tattered. Most of them need to be repaired or better yet replaced. Of course the refreshments were obnoxiously expensive. For what we paid for tickets and snacks we could have paid for an hour massage and not frozen to death. Reminds me why we only patronize this theatre twice a year. They are easily persuaded to behave childish and unprofessional and target their paying customers. We won't be back. You can bet on that. Save your money and rent a movie on HULU to enjoy in your own living room in a comfortable temperature setting that you choose not the temperature that the coppers choose.

The floor is not sloped, so if a very tall person sits in front of you, oh welllll. I will also say, the screening room only has one aisle to get into the seats, and it was a bit tight to squeeze past people if the only seats open were against the wall. I was also surprised that the bar served drinks in real glasses. Definitely saw a few broken wine glasses, which :E Sounds like I am full of nothing but complaints, but it is a nice microcinema and I would visit for a regular screening if I'm ever there not for the fest!

The employees were friendly as we entered the foyer and helped us select our seats; however, they then informed us that "because it's a free showing masks are required". I paused and considered this information. I walked away in frustration, but ended up going back to ask for clarification questions. I got confirmation that if I PAY for a ticket to watch a movie, I would have the freedom to not wear a mask, but when there's no MONEY involved, apparently the science changes and suddenly masks are required to save everyone's lives. I won't start a debate over the validity of masks on this review, that's not the point. The issue I have is that they "recommend" masks for paying customers and "require" masks for non-paying customers. I imagine they'd be hard pressed to explain the "science" behind that decision. Again... employees were pleasant; policies... not. I will never return.

Wow - The Moxie is truly the best cinema experience in Springfield if the movie selection suits…read moreyou. I hadn't been to the new location until I came here for a movie this past weekend with some friends of mine, and I had such a good time, I think I could have sat and watched another one if time had permitted. I sat in for The Grand Budapest Hotel after watching previews for several films that I ACTIVELY WANTED TO SEE, as opposed to enduring a somewhat nonsensical thread of cinematic barf. An amazing aspect of The Moxie is its dedication to real, true businesses - right down to its concessions options. Gourmet chocolate bar with orange peel? Yup. Izze soda? Got it. Wine? Wait. Hold the phone. There's WINE here? I can have WINE with my excellently hip indie film? Someone snatch me up a blanket made of alpaca wool and let's do this thing! And the prices are refreshingly NOT blasphemous, as opposed to chain cinema concession stands. The new Moxie is somehow just the old Moxie on a different street - as in, it retained its upbeat, modern, blocked red-and-black scheme in the best possible way - with a few new art installations thrown in. The new auditoriums are even better, though. They're bigger yet cozier and the red seats (which are super comfy on your buns, by the way) remind you where you are even after you're away from the lobby. You're at The Moxie, and you're enjoying yourself. The staff seems great, too. The college-ish girl running the register at the front popped into the theater before our show began and gave a short little talk about another movie coming up, which was not insignificant in the sense that it really showed that this theatre is loved. As Ebert and Roeper would say (because they review movies and stuff, get it? Ha ha ha...): two thumbs up!
