I've officially learned my lesson from shopping at Marc's numerous times now. Do NOT buy steaks or fish from this store ever! A few days ago marked the third time this year that I'd bought meat (a steak this time, last week was a filet of salmon- both unexpired by date on package) and got home to find it was already rancid! I've wasted too much money buying bad meat from this store and it finally gave me food poisoning for the last 2.5 days! Never again. Plus, they're not cheap for the low quality dollar store type selection they have. Go to the new Fairfax Meijer market just a mile away instead for way better deals and fresh food. read more

Management is terrible, the younger cashiers are rude or are clueless to what they are doing, the store is unclean you will always find dried up cherry seeds or the shelves are sticky or you'll find trash. The dates on certain food items are wrong or the product is already expired. Security is awful, they let animals in freely. Customer service is no better, young customer service personnel are disrespectful to customers and ring out alcohol when they are not old enough. And price tags are placed incorrectly so there is always confusion, you have to wait 20 minutes for the manager to come help you with checkout. If I could put a 0 start review I would because it deserves it. read more

This local grocery store has a nice selection of produce that was surprising for the size of the store. It also carries a variety of alcoholic beverages in case you get thirsty over the weekend and can't make it to a liquor store. The variety of options at Marc's was great. It was no surprise that some items were a bit overpriced. However, others such as produce were at the same price, if not less than at other larger groceries. I would definitely recommend Marcs if you need a quick grocery find at a reasonable price in the Coventry area. read more

Marc's rocks. It's not the cleanest, fanciest, or most up-to-date grocery store, but it is pretty cheap and they usually have what you are looking for. I went there today for burger buns. It was a little confusing because there were no lane arrows. As much as it was a bit of a free-for-all, it was nice to not have to obey some arbitrary direction especially if the other lanes are clogged. They had Nichol's buns for $.99, but we really splurged for some whole wheat buns. We also went to the closeouts area to find a cigarette lighter usb charger for the car. They had it, but the one they were selling had too many other things in the package, a cable and a box, so we passed on it for today. I love the random things in the closeouts, but it can be addictive. Be careful. It also seems like Marc's is the only place in the area that will let you use their public bathroom. Unsure about my feelings for this particular Marcs. It's extremely small, like really small. 2 people with carts can't even fit down the isles. The vegetables are usually really good. They're fresh and lastlonger then normal. Negative, is you have to pay for parking. I get that it's coventry and it's a super busy place. But, seriously? It's a bit ridiculous. read more

I noticed a lot of bad/iffy reviews for this Marc's and so I felt compelled to share my experience shopping there. I've lived in the neighborhood for a few months now and I not so secretly love shopping at this Marc's. It's not just conveniently located between work and home for me, it's also a place that I've just had delightful interactions with other humans -- that includes both the other shoppers and definitely the cashiers. I can't tell you how many times I've left shopping at this Marc's and had my day made by the simple acts of kindness I've experienced there. Marc's is awfully convenient, in terms of location. That's pretty much where it ends for me. The store is tiny. Their selection is hit or miss - you can find about 50 different kinds of chicken broth, but no vegetable broth at all? Or, I could find whole walnuts, crushed walnuts, halved walnuts, but no pecans? However, they do have lots of different TYPES of stuff, but maybe only one brand of it. Limited selection of produce and some of it is a bit iffy looking. One of the biggest downsides is the staff that work there. They seem upset when you interrupt them as they're yelling across the store to the other cashier about so and so's baby mama's brother going on a date with so and so. There seems to be only one register open at a time and you wait for about 20 minutes. Also, they only take cash, checks (but only from Ohio), or Discover. I wish other credit/debit cards were accepted. It's convenient if you live nearby and forgot something common at the store, but I don't grocery shop here. read more

Warning....they take Cash or the Discover Card....I found that out when I was in line to pay and was rudely told that oh-by-way rule. Had to use the atm machine to cash out. The staff is rude to you unless you are 1: family 2: friend 3:management I only use this store on a emergency basis . The prices are fair, the selection is pretty good for the size but I wouldn't purchase lobster from there even if they carried it. Avoid at all costs this place during the hours that school lets out as the school age kids congregate at the doorway and panhandle money from you as you go in. I had to complain to the manager about that and he apologized and said that was an ongoing problem. Security came and made them leave. Saw a fight once in the parking lot on a Saturday afternoon. Speaking of which, the parking sucks. You are better off walking if you live in the area. read more

I can kind of understand a restaurant that doesn't take credit cards... but a grocer? I think not. This place is close, which is really the only thing it has going for it. The selection is quite small, though some of the prices are pretty good. Unfortunately, it isn't really worth the hassle of having to get cash. I will probably find myself here from time to time to pick up 1 or 2 things... but I don't carry cash often and I don't have an in state checking account since checks have been mostly useless for at least a decade. Marc's sells a lot of really good stuff here for really cheap prices. However, while they have many categories of items, they're limited in their selection. For example, they'll have product X, but only have one option for picking it out. The produce here is pretty terrible and old-looking. The biggest downside is that they don't take credit cards. You have to pay with cash, in-state checks, or Discover. I don't plan on really grocery shopping here; it's not worth it to save a total of $3 with the inconvenience of going elsewhere to get other quality foods. read more

The worst Marc's I've ever shopped at. The employees are so rude and hate their lives it's a shame. The meat selection is very poor and have no variety. The manager harasses my girlfriend every time she comes in the store and had me going for a while to avoid him. Now I can't even deal with the bs that's associated with this store. I live down the street from the store but I rather get in my car and drive to Dave's instead of deal with these guys lol. This store has honestly been the worst part about living in Coventry Village. I have been shopping in this store for almost two years. It's always been frustrating. Especially since when I first moved here they didn't have simple things like Alfredo Sauce. Now they have the worst selection of foods I've ever seen. The fruit is always bad! I have an ED and since I don't drive this store is my sole way to get food. Fruit is a comfort item for me. I have thrown away almost $80 in fruit over the past two months. My watermelons have shown signs of either dangerous Nitrate levels or Rind Necrosis (super hard yellow chunks even a knife won't cut through, my mangoes have been molded on the inside, etc. The selection has gone down drastically. I can never find the things I used to get here all the time. Example: Ham and Cheese lunchables (which they switched out with Bologna and chicken). The lines are always extremely long! I have gone multiple times in the past months and have stood in line for upwards of 30/40 minutes. The express line is terrible because there is always that one older customer who has no idea what they're talking about arguing with the cashier or having the cashier do things for them that they're capable of doing themselves. I've waited longer in the express line than a regular one. While staff is always kind and helpful. This store is a waste of time. They don't even have regular maple and brown sugar oatmeal just the sugar free alternatives (which is another issue of theirs. If you're gonna have alternatives for an item at least carry the original) read more

This is our local grocery. We can walk there. I was upset by one of the managers working at the 12 item or less desk. First she wouldn't extend her hand to take our groceries and ordered me to move them closer. I did. Then she proceeded to scan each item and throw them into the bags. I asked her not to do this and she scowled at me and denied doing it. On another visit I picked out about six items and went to the check out. A manager was standing near the door staring at his phone. I waited. I waited. I decided to wait 30 seconds more. He never looked at me nor spoke to me. I left the food on the counter and walked out. I stopped into the store around noon to pick up a gallon of milk. I checked out at customer service. The cashier had long brown? hair and black glasses. Along with a black personality. She scanned my milk, she said $2.50(Great price btw) and I gave her the money as she gave my change. I said thanks and she looked away. She did the the same thing to the guy infront of me. What happened to good old fashioned customer service? For instance, "Hello sir, will that be all?.....find everything ok? Thank you have a nice day." Just a suggestion. This Marc's is weird mainly because it is supposed to be a small neighborhood store so their selection of stuff is nowhere near as extensive as the other stores. However, if you have a quarter for the meters (because the free meters are always taken) cash, a check, or a Discover Card and need to pick something like milk up and don't feel with dealing with a big grocery store or a big box store this should be your go to place. read more

Popped in for a few bottles of tea and wish id have gone anywhere but here. Place is trashed, crowded with people who refuse for some reason to let anyone through and the staff are just disgustingly rude. Oh, and to top it all off they dont take debit cards, visa or mc. Overall, the employees at this store are rude. I stopped in for a few items before a trip and in 5 minutes I was run into by a stocking cart (after which there was no quick apology from the employee) and was turned away from a short checkout line even though several others had been helped at the same counter before me; I got a flat "I'm closed," before the employee turned, walked away, and started complaining about customers. I set my basket down immediately and walked out of the store. Dave's Supermarket has friendlier employees and a well-organized store, drive a couple minutes down the road and support them instead! read more

This store is worst than ever. While in line waiting was a bag boy working while on his cell phone. This is unnacceptable. Unfortunately this Marc's is much higher in prices than other Marc's which makes it bad for people who don't have cars to drive to another one. This is quite unfair for the neighborhood. Also, because of their size you won't find everything that the other stores have. I never stand in line long but the employees at times are barely paying attention to the customer in front of them and at times show that they really don't care. The little red baskets are not good to hold being that there is no plastic bar where you hold it. In turn if your basket gets a little heavy it will wreck havoc on your hands. I find most everything I need, including a good selection of produce & some fun things in the closeout area, too. I know in advanced I need to write a check or use cash so it is not a hassel for me at all, I'd rather take 15 seconds to write out a check than pay high prices someplace else. From what I am told, they do not use charge cards because of the high cost the charge card companies charge retailers, so they pass that saving to us. It's a small grocery store in the Conventry area, and I come here out of convenience becuase my bf lives so close. It's quite the perfect spot to run to when we realize that we're short 1-cup of sugar, or out of flour, etc. Parking is a pain on the street so just head into the lot for 30 minutes of free parking at the meter. Don't forget to turn the knob on the meter for our free 30 mins. It has all the basic necessities, but lacks any gourmet ingredients. The prices are fairly standard... not really "discount" priced. read more

I come in here a lot. They have great prices and a huge quantity but bought blackberries recently to find they were covered in mold when I got them home. They also lack in any seafood items at all. Three stars is easily generous enough. read more

Wow!!!! I swear I thought it was just me until I read the reviews. Very rude almost seem like prejudice cashier to me. 1st off, he was talking to another customer ALL SMILES. Until he looked at me, if looks could kill I'd be dead. He frowned during the whole transaction. I said thank you sir he never replied,I said have a great day he absolutely turned away as if he didn't hear me. I will go back (I'm petty like that,) just to expose him and tell a manager, as I happened to know the owner because I've done tree work for him years ago when he lived in Gates/ Moreland Mills I can't remember which. When Marc's started out many many years ago, they carried mostly closeout stuff and sold them at very low prices. They got a reputation of being a very cheap place to shop. Then they got into mainstream items trying to compete with the big stores. Their prices had to go up. They tried to keep prices low, but did not always suceed. It's fun to shop in the closeout aisles because merchandise is always changing. But you have to know your prices in the rest of the store. Sometimes they are cheap, sometimes they are expensive. Most of their locations now have a deli section. You can get fresh sliced deli meats at a pretty good price because they go through tons of it at their gazillion locations. read more

It's really unfortunate that I have to go far out into the Suburbs to find reasonable prices. I attempted to buy a box of Clif Bars (12 ct) while they have a 6 ct priced at 6.33, they wanted to charge me an individual price of 1.33 ea for the 12ct...I don't think so. I can get these for less at Trader Joes, Whole Foods or a local grocery store. While I try to shop local these stores make it difficult. I purchased closeout merchandise on the Westside for half the price that the stores in my neighborhood charged. I have to be careful of pricing; while chicken breasts are on sale for 1.99 a pound they were marked at 3.99 lb at your Mayfield store. This is disturbing and unfortunate. I feel sorry for people who don't drive and have to shop locally or one's who don't carefully pay attention. I have shopped these stores since they were Bernie Shulman but it's too bad I have to spread my money out because of inconsistencies. Thanks for nothing Marc's. read more

I love Marcs! I have been shopping at Marcs 3-4 times a week for the last 3 years. They only take cash (So what? Goto an ATM they are nearby, cash is cool), but pass the savings on to me. The produce is always ripe and ready to eat. I live 3 minutes away walking distance on Hampshire. I shop at Marc's the day that I cook and so my produce is always ripe and ready. Things aren't just cheap at Marc's they are Marc's cheap, I must have saved thousands of dollars by shopping here. They usually only have one item of each type of product, but who cares? It's how they afford to make things cheap, by taking stuff that other grocery stores can't use and offering one variety of each product. By doing this in the limited space that exists in the store, they have everything you want and you don't have to walk football fields to get from one side of the store to the other. The Marc's on Coventry is tricky, sometimes they will be out of what you need, but never fear, just think on your toes and buy something else. No one item should make or break a dish. Variety is the spice of life. It is all part of the Marc's adventure. They even have an organic section, which is good for me and my wife as we enjoy buying organic eggs and milk. They have some organic meat. but I generally don't eat meat. I just bought a house in Cleveland Heights and one of the major selling points was I could still walk to Coventry and my beloved Marc's.
