Look, I'm a foodie. I know food. I love to cook, and am an…read moreaccomplished amateur cook. I've also lived in several major US cities. I must say that there is no better grocery store or grocery chain in the country than Heinen's. Ok, Sunset Grocery Stores in Highland Park, IL, and Straubs in St. Louis are a close second. But Heinens reigns supreme. Selection They have a diverse selection of brands of every kind and type so you can choose exactly what you need. Heinens also has a variety of foods, except their downtown location. Even though their stores are huge, it's always easy to find someone to point you in the right direction. Other stores may have people on the floor, but they have no idea what they have or where things are. This store is the perfect size to get exactly what you need and zoom in and out. They have INCREDIBLE prepared foods if you're in a hurry to eat, from meatloaf to meatballs, salads, and spreads. Just incredible. Heinens has an incredible wine selection and they even carry Mexican Coke, which is all I can drink now. They're bakery is awesome too. It isn't that typical in-store bakery with the weird aftertaste of preservatives. It's good enough to be a stand-alone bakery. Their produce is expansive and fresh. I'm beginning to think, if they don't have it, you really don't need it!

I didn't feel rushed to get out of the store, or feel like it was a hassle/chore being inside. The workers were in good spirits on vibing with the atmosphere. The bakery and meat market was great. I couldnt ask for a better layout, where some Whole Food locations have the bakery and the breads in separate areas, this one had all breads, tortillas, deli, and meats in one area (PERFECT).

You'll find more…read moreexciting holiday items inside - advent calendars, seasonal Apres ski pour Veuve Clicquot champagne, the hygge game, and more. I've visited this location many times and especially find it festive during the holiday season. AMBIANCE: This location is a standard WF store - spacious and clean. The store is also organized like other WF for convenience. I prefer it to the University Heights location. FOOD: Food selection is excellent and everything looks fresh! I found some items here that aren't available at my frequented University Heights destination. For instance, fresh breads you can pack yourself, plenty more smoked salmon options, liverwurst, chestnuts, and plenty of hot foods. During my last visit I picked up just a few favorites - smoked salmon, rotisserie chicken, baked bread, liverwurst, and some hot foods. I was very pleased with how easy it is to find everything especially later in the day. Typically, hot foods, bread, and rotisserie chicken are hard to find later in the day. The prices at Whole Foods are on the higher end. The ambiance and quality make it well worth it. SERVICE: The service is okay. The employees are selectively nice. Lines are usually long during busy shopping days like weekends. COFFEE SHOP: I've never had coffee inside the Whole Foods until today. I was very sleepy and needed a pick me up, wasn't in the mood to seek out a coffee shop. I was pleasantly surprised with the selection of coffee drinks like lattes and seasonal offerings. I selected drip coffee, which was $2.75 for a large. I was very happy with this cup of coffee - not too acidic, flavorful, and awakening. CHRISTMAS TREES: There are plenty of Christmas trees - $29.99 for table trees, and $69.99 for regular trees. Table trees were not very lush, but many people were purchasing them. There are plenty of choices here so that you don't have to make a journey to a farm or other market. I enjoy my visits to this store. I look forward to stopping in again soon. Next time I'll try seasonal caffeine drinks!

Other prepared foods are good. It's not huge store but a nice size to easily navigate. In a cute area in Lakewood. In the summer you can grab a homemade sandwich, chips and drink and head to Edgewater park. I miss the bar where you could drink and shop. Oh well. It's a good grocery experience.

While typical grocery shopping here is amazing too, this review is focused on the "extras" they offer. I'm not sure when it happened, but I was thrilled to see that they once again have a full salad bar. Their salad bar is always fresh and I love that they have some of the options from the prepared food counter on the bar for the same price. I added in a little bit of the orzo salad and kale salad and asked the lady at the counter for a small amount of the corn salad because the one of the salad bar did look a little dry. Luckily she obliged and gave me a spoonful to add into my container. Lucky's also has an awesome sushi and ramen bar with discounts on Tuesday. They serve Edison's pizza by the slice and full pies, and they offer full rotisserie chickens for 5.99 on Wednesdays. I love getting pre marinated meat and fish from their meat counter. There's usually a lot of different chicken flavor options, which really cuts down on prep time. In the cheese cooler, they also have great ready to cook meals. From Mac and cheese to chicken wings and meatloaf, it's really paradise for those that don't like to cook too much. Their beer and wine departments go without stating. Their awesome. I love combing through the single beer cooler to sample something new. They also have discount wine bins that are really fun. It's always nice to discover a new wine you like for less than $20. On the weekends you may be pleasantly surprised to find a DJ spinning tracks while you grocery shop. I LOVE THIS! You can buy wine or beer by the glass and make grocery shopping a full event on a Friday night. There's so much I could say about Lucky's but I'll keep it short hahaha. Overall, fantastic place. Healthy food and a paradise for people who enjoy prepared foods. P.s. they have one of the largest assortments of Health Aide kombucha in the area.
