The good: The gal at the pickup counter was nice and informed me that the extra protection I was…read moresold at the time of the booking wasn't needed, and that she suggested I don't pay the $60 Euros (total) for that protection, and instead, pay $40 Euros/day for protection that the car rental place sold. I dropped the $60, called my credit card company that I booked the reservation thru to confirm that I was covered with my Visa for up to $60k in theft/damage, etc, so I didn't pay anything extra above and beyond what I booked for.
The bad: we were handed a set of keys to a vehicle that we didn't get to choose, and informed to get on a bus, and head over to the universal rental car lot where we could find our car, and advised to take photos and videos of damage. We looked for the vehicle for about 15 minutes in the dark, until a lot attendant from a completely different rental car company informed us that our rental was on the far right side the lot where there was one row of Autovia cars located way in back. There was no panic button on the key fob to the crappy car we were issued or I would have just used that to quickly locate the car. There was no Autovia attendant in the lot to assist us when we finally found the car. Once we finally found it, we took pics of the dirty car and damage it had on the exterior and then opened the trunk to the smell of an ASHTRAY...this car hadn't just been smoked in, there was a layer of ash coating every surface....Seriously disgusting. I got an instant migraine and it lasted well into the next day. Every time my family got into this POS dirty car, we all felt sick. My father has Asthma and both my Mother and I get really bad headaches from cigarette smoke. Unfortunately, changing the vehicle wasn't prudent due to the circle jerk of being issued the car, getting on the bus, and then finding no attendant in the lot. But it gets better...this car was such a hunk of junk that apple play worked from the airport to the hotel and then it didn't work again for the next 4 days we had it. It made trying to navigate without a moving map in downtown Naples a real clusterfvck.
When we went to return the vehicle, we were met with an attendant for Autovia who was very nice and we explained to him our experience....he wasn't surprised, and simply said to make it known in the review, so that's what I am doing. Not just here, but I will also be alerting any other potential customers of my experience and what to expect if they rent a vehicle here, on google, yelp, etc. I should have just rented from National, where it's just easy. No BS to deal with on your trip.
