Having walked most of Bologna's downtown and yes there are some beautiful old structures I found the exteriors to be run down. The AC is new and clean. My rate did come with breakfast. There is an Old world charm as they still have keys and ask that you leave them at the front desk when you leave the hotel. At the bottom of the steps in the lobby area, there is a Moderna's famous tribute with a picture of Pavarotti and Ferrari display. Breakfast is available and from what we saw it looked comprehensive as well they had a small bar area. They don't have a Fitness room. Our 3rd floor Double Twin room had a safe with outlets next to the beds. Opening windows were a nice touch. Staff was really helpful with suggestions for restaurants and tips overall. What we liked the most was the location and that's what you're paying for here. Amazing restaurant/cafe/Bar (UVA d"Oro, Paticerria remondini & Birrlandina) around the corner and 15 minutes walk to the Ferrari museum. Extra star for the service.

The location is not particularly appealing - it's in a commercial district and surrounded by roads so I guess their main business is from the attached conference centre. There is a shopping area across a busy road that has a couple of restaurants if you're feeling adventurous. The room was pretty well appointed and better than I expected; it sported all the required amenities apart from a minibar and trouser press. No wardrobe as such, but two hanging rails and plenty of hangers. The bed was large and comfy, the bathroom nice and roomy with a big corner shower. The room price was very reasonable at 49 Euros per night including Continental breakfast. You really can't complain at those prices, although presumably it gets more expensive in high season. The conference centre is in a separate wing from the bedrooms, accessible only from the main reception so non-resident delegates are kept away from the guest bedrooms. It has two floors, both with large rooms that could be subdivided into two or three smaller areas with sliding partitions. As I was staying over the night after the conference, I took the chance to eat in the hotel restaurant as I was too tired to consider heading into town. At 7.30pm I was the only person in it, although over the next hour or so another 3 or 4 diners appeared. You couldn't call it busy though. For starters I had a salmon risotto, followed by a tuna steak with sesame and miso dressing. The risotto was tasty, although a bit too creamy for my taste. The tuna steak was certainly impressive in size, but was sadly a bit over-cooked. The server had not asked how I wanted it cooked, but even so it's surely not that difficult to get right. Parts of it were fine with a nice juicy centre, but most of it was distinctly on the chewy side. I'd have no hesitation about staying here again in future as the standard of the hotel was very good; however I would certainly think twice about having an evening meal in their restaurant again.

Ravenna is about an hour away on the Autostrada, and I'd been there before to see some of the sights. Location is not great for tourism, but I had a rental car and wanted to venture out. As an auto enthusiast I wanted to visit Modena, Maranello, and Sant Agata for Ferrari and Lamborghini (FYI Maserati is closed on weekends) - the museums were within 40 minutes of the hotel. Free parking at the hotel was a plus. My room was modern and clean. Great for my short stay. The breakfast buffet is very nice, and dinner was good, as well. Overall, the price and property were very good for my needs. If I were visiting the historic area, I would probably want to stay closer to the center of town. No complaints from my stay here.

The breakfast is extensive and the coffee strong. I am not sure if there is a charge for a second cup of coffee as they only asked for my room after I ordered it. Now to the hotel. There is no lift. That could be a deterrent for some. I stayed in a junior suite. It was very large for Italian standards. A king size bed. Nice. Only two pillows. (There could be more, I didn't check). The furniture was utilitarian, think IKEA for the decor. The bathroom has a tub with shower doors. I found the taps to be in an inconvenient place as I banged my thighs on it a few times. This hotel does not provide shampoo/conditioner or body lotion. Maybe that's typical, I don't know. But they do provide shoe polish. They could invest in a good grout cleaner as there is a bit of discoloration from use. In the tub there is black mold on the silicon which could easily be removed and cleaned in an afternoon. This I find to be unacceptable as it's an easy fix.

My one reservation is that the hostel is slightly far off the main road (maybe 1/8 of a mile) and it takes about 20 minutes walking to get to the big grocery store, although there are other small food places around (we passed at least one cafe less than 5 minutes away). I would highly recommend this hostel. Just know that you will be doing a bit of walking!
