I really wanted to like this place. I just could not. Starts with their lack of parking. At their location you have to park over in front of Harris Teeter most of the time. However, it isn't that big of a deal. Inside is small and the tables are not very large either. Ambiance is eh at best. The service was ok, but I had to ask where my mom's wine was for her to get it. Food was just ok. Calamari was good, large portion with great marinara. The penne alla vodka however was awful. Truly awful. Maybe I'm spoiled with better options by me, buy sauce barely clung to the pasta, was watery and it claimed to have meat in it, but it didn't. Do yourself a favor and drive the extra few minutes to Huntersville or Charlotte. read more

I was looking to get my Italian fix on Saturday while visiting Denver and the reviews for Marchellos looked good so tried to call for reservations and phone just rang ; no pickup or message. I tried an hour later and same thing. So I thought that I would change plans and later that day as I was driving by I thought I would see if I could do take out. They had a pizza special on black board outside do I went in. .... Waited ....waited .... No one covering front . But when someone finally came I ordered the pizza to go..... it was a good pizza with fresh ingredients and a nice crust. Perhaps it was just a bad night. read more

Had to drop another plug for Marchellos Neighborhood Italian in Denver because this place continues to live rent-free in my stomach. If you're into sweet red sauce, melty cheese, and that no frills family-friendly neighborhood Italian restaurant vibe, this is your spot. Charlotte rush hour tried to stand in my way, but nothing was stopping me from this meal. Took an hour to get there, 30 minutes back, and I'd do it again tomorrow. Yes, I ordered the eggplant parm again. When something is that good, there's no reason to switch it up. Perfectly fried, covered in melted cheese, and drenched in Marcello's house-made sweet red sauce. It might be my favorite eggplant parm near Charlotte, but I'll let you be the judge. I got the penne alla vodka as my side for the entrée, and it delivered. Rich, creamy, and well-balanced without being too heavy. I also had a side of meatballs, which were a very respectable size and packed with flavor. The stuffed clams came packed with seasoned breading and sitting in a buttery, garlicky, lemony sauce. I was shamelessly using the house bread to soak up every last drop like I had something to prove. And tonight? The dining room was packed with more Long Island Italian grandmothers than a Staten Island church basement on Easter Sunday. I swear every other table had a Nonna holding court and quietly judging my plate like I was dating her granddaughter. That's how you know the food's the real deal. If you go, ask for Marshall and tell him I sent you. They'll treat you like family. The kind that insists you eat more even when you're already full. And don't skip dessert. Marshall's wife makes a Key Lime Pie that's South Floridian approved by me, and the ricotta cheesecake is the kind of dessert that lingers in your brain long after the check hits the table. read more

Solid 3. They get points for Gluten free options, and I was happy to see that there were multiple options. The calamari salad was 5 stars all day. The chicken parm GF was a grilled to death pounded to a millimeter and covered in cheese. Chicken parm jerky...with cheese. The sauce had no flavor, out of a can and on the GF penne. The penne was cooked perfectly. Slow service. Family friendly, loud and relaxed. Solid 3. I'll be back for the calamari. read more

Service was great....server kept out table cleared off and checked on us regularly. Really liked the atmosphere. It was really clean. Food.....not that great. Salad was room temp at best. The dressing did NOT taste like Cesar dressing...ALOT of oil and something else that I could not quite place. lol. Limited menu. Tonight was the second time my son and I have had an experience at Marchello's. I wanted to give them a second chance, as we weren't impressed the first time that we had this food. I've been in the culinary field for a long time, and I decided we should give them a second chance since we initially tried them as they were transitioning over from Mattiello's. Wine: Please narrow the list if they aren't good. Also, at the very least, ensure that the wait staff is aware that they should ask if the guest(s) are done with the wine menu before attempting to take it. These were two different people. Food: Waitress, Waiter, Wait staff; if they are sharing information about the menu, they should be educated about the food. i.e., angel hair pasta and capellini pasta are the same in the United States. When the guest asks if you have capellini and you respond, "No. We have angel hair.", it doesn't sound as if you know what you're serving. Presentation MATTERS. It takes less than five seconds to wipe the side of the bowl before serving a dish to a guest. Soup should not be displayed in a mess all over the side. Ambiance: Marilyn Monroe, Elvis, Dolly Parton. None of these people were Italian. The decor reminds me of someone who had some items in their garage or maybe went shopping at an antique shop. Make it make sense. Consider incorporating some Italian music. Oh, a few things: Gelato only has one "L". Mediterranean is misspelled, as well as a couple of other items on the chalkboard wall. I would love to add a positive, but from start to finish, it seemed to be all over the place. I'm hoping they will take some time to make some changes in the restaurant and make it feel like an authentic Italian neighborhood restaurant. read more

This is based on a to go order placed on 8/11. We were excited to try a new local Italian place with a menu that looked promising. I grew up in Western NY and have always had great Italian, but have been in Charlotte 13 years. We have some "go tos" for Italian in Charlotte, but want something close! We didn't enjoy Matilleos either when it was here as a precursor. Positives: They packed the to go food with care! No spills. The actual flavor of the sauce is very good. Certain things are definitely homemade. We enjoyed the dressings and sauces. Negatives: Portion size. Portion size. Portion size. I got chicken and eggplant parm ($19). The chicken looked as if they took a breast and sliced it in 4 thin slices and you got 1/4 of a thin chicken cutlet. Underwhelmed. The portion size of the eggplant was also small and it was undercooked. The sauce was good and generous on cheese. The lasagna was a child portion for $16. Food not as described on the menu. The penne was missing the meat that was in the description. But the rigatoni that I chose as my pasta with the chicken parm did come with meat. No bread was included. We ordered the "garlic bread" which was the pita bread Matiellos also served. Why why why?! People want Italian bread (INCLUDED) while enjoying their Italian food. Disappointing. I disliked that pita and was hoping for something different! It was over $4 for a tasteless pita. Bottom line: Maybe eating in house is different?! Maybe the issue was we got it to go? But this was incredibly underwhelming for over $70. I'll keep an eye on if things change. read more

We decided to dine out on Sunday because we were on our way home from a long movie and the wife and I didn't feel like cooking.We have been to this restaurant before under two previous owners.I didn't feel like having chicken Marsala because I eat chicken a lot so I asked if I could exchange it for veal and the waitress asked and they said no problem.My meal was very tasty except that the veal was a bit overcooked.My wife ordered the shrimp salad and she enjoyed it.There is one thing that could be changed and that is the dining room could use a face lift and when we dine at Chillfire the manager/owner will come to all the tables asking us if we enjoyed the food and beverages and thanking us for our business and please come back soon.Its a nice touch.I forgot to add that our waitress was awesome and very attractive!! read more

We were promptly greeted when we walked in. I visited this establishments around 5:30pm. I have never ate here before. The bread was thin pita bread. The olive oil is good. The food came out quick. My girlfriend got the aunt Mari's fettuccine and I order the penne con broccoli with chicken added. The Cesar salad came out first and it lacked any flavor. Grated Parmesan instead of shaved Parmesan, Small croutons pieced and little dressing. The main entrees were very under season. The Alfredo sauce was grainy and didn't have any flavor. I don't feel like fresh Parmesan was used. Especially after we asked for Parmesan and a shaker was handed to us. The penne con broccoli didn't have any flavor other than burnt garlic. The garlic slices was burnt. The best part of the meal was the slice of ricotta cheesecake and at 10$ a slice it should be. read more

We gave them a shot, as they just opened. The wait for a table for two was about 30 minutes at 6:30pm on a Saturday night. The menu has plenty of options. We started with Mozzarella sticks. I had a Pasta E Fagioli soup with beans, pasta, and tomatoes. The pasta was al dente and really worked well together. The garlic bread is more of a thin pizza dough with garlic and seasoning done just right! Unfortunately the entrees left something to be desired: mainly temperature as both our orders came to the table Luke warm at best, like they were sitting for a while in the kitchen. I had the Pasta Tuscanio (I believe that was the name) it was sliced Italian sausage with pasta and spinach with a butter white wine sauce. Even in the center of the dish it was warm at best. Pasta was a touch over cooked, with very little sauce. A bit bland, but the sausage was on point. My wife had the Eggplant Parmesan. It too was warm at best and a tad undercooked. Great presentation, but missed the mark on execution. Realizing they just opened, we will give them a couple weeks and try again to see if they work out opening issues. read more

The "Italian" bread was left over pizza crust that was just like pita bread: poor excuse for Italian bread. (If you can't make it, buy at at Publix.) Dried parmesan cheese in a shaker? How about fresh? Salad: good. Spaghetti and meatballs: bland, bland, bland. Please use salt to enhance the flavor of your food. Homemade apple pie a la mode: again: use salt in crust. Average. Service: pleasant. Cold beer. It's a big room with a small bar in a large shopping center. With the price of food, the experience was not worth it. The Hollywood, movie star vibe was confusing. Have someone re-paint the bathrooms: paint was slopped on the baseboards, around the sink. Not too classy. Good location, but not worth the drive if you come from anywhere but Denver and you don't cook your own Italian. read more

I will give Marchello's a 4 rating, but my heart really isn't quite in it. In regard to ambience, the restaurant is very simply decorated...a big open room with one long wall of white subway tiles dressed with middling art of celebrities. The furniture was uninspiring, and we chose not to sit at the bar as the area was just too dark. A better feeling about the food...the menu is broader than you would expect, and offers a lot of variety. When our entrees were delivered, the overall perception was that the food was competent, plentiful and fairly priced. In all fairness, my Shrimp Fra Diavlo did sport 5 or 6 very good sized shrimp. Service was friendly and effective, although in a house that was not quite half full we felt that our waiter might have been just a little more attentive. So...if you're looking for a cost effective, reliable Italian meal and not worried about being too fancy, Marchello's will work for you. As for us we, we net out at "competent but plain". read more

The very small side salad consisted solely lettuce, a couple red onions, two tomatoes and two olives. We had to ask for bread which was a tasteless thin flatbread. The food was bland and the sauce was very watery. The only redeeming quality was the chocolate cake and sea salt caramel gelato. The server was a very sweet young lady who is new and it shows. Hopefully she will improve as she becomes more experienced. The restaurant is very cold as most restaurants are these days but it is very cold. I am Italian, from upstate New York, and have had it all I my lifetime - from homemade to $200/person restaurants, and everything in between. In my opinion, Marchello's is so much better than I expected based on the reviews, and well worth the price we paid for dinner and a drink for two of us. I will be back! read more

We got the marchello pizza it was very good. I'm usually just a pepperoni guys but this had quite a special flavor and we got tomato and cheese salad appetizer wry good comes with vinegar and oil on the table. All very nice. Looks like we'll need to go back and try some of the other dishes. read more

We live out of state but come to visit family in Denver a couple of times a year. I was disappointed to hear that the restaurant had changed hands since the last time I'd been in Denver, and a little worried that the experience wouldn't be as good as it had been for us before. We came on a Thursday night with a party of 6. The place was pretty busy, but they got a table ready for us in just a few minutes. The server was great, very friendly and helpful, and later the manager (or owner?) checked on us to make sure all was well. The food was delicious, (Chicken Piccata was a favorite). I wish I could remember the name of my pasta dish, but it included spinach, white beans and sausage. It was great, and I would order it again. Their desserts were fantastic as well. We had key lime pie, tiramisu and gelato. I'm so happy that there's still a great Italian restaurant in Denver and we'll absolutely be back! read more

We ate here this evening and it possibly may have been the worst food and service we have experienced anywhere in quite awhile. My husband and I are new to the area and we eat out often, but we will not be coming back here. My pasta was undercooked and tasted as if it had been prepared with seafood (I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo) and had very little sauce. After taking two bites, I politely informed my waiter that I was finished as it was undercooked and tasted as if it had been cooked with seafood. He apologized, said he wasn't sure and asked if I wanted dessert. My husband's entree lacked flavor and only ate a few bites of his as well. I go to Marchello's Italian at least once a week. This is now my favorite Italian restaurant in this area. We had our company party here and the food and service were outstanding! I had the chicken piccata and it was amazing! The chicken was so tender I could slice it with my fork and the sauce was perfect! All of the guest at my table raved about the quality and taste of the food and such large portions. I had leftovers for the next day. I love how the pictures on the walls are of old movies; it took me back in time! Thanks for such a lovely evening, I will definitely keep coming back. read more
