Went in for there lunch specials. The restaurant was spotless and appetizing atmosphere. Sort of a very modern NYC Manhattan style restaurant. Service was fast and the lunch specials were displayed on A frame placards on the Road entrance and on the sidewalk as well in the restaurant. We ordered both the Pizza special 2 slices with a fountain drink included cost $5 and the hot plate of Chicken Parmigiana with penne pasta $10 . Very good prices. Both came in timely manner. So this is a mixed review. We ordered take out for Father's Day. It was ready in about 15 mins so not long at all. I ordered the buffalo chicken pizza for my husband and I ordered the pear and Gorgonzola pasta and a side salad with house dressing. The pizza was large and tasted great! The pasta while tasty, was a SMALL portion, 20 pieces total with minimal sauce. The salad had a lot of middle "pieces" that I tore out but dressing was delicious! Both dishes were $28 each. For the price, we would definitely order the pizza again, but not the pasta! Pizza crust was tasteless and not fresh. Cheese was tough and salty. Service was slow. When we ordered just a pizza, and we were the only ones there, it took a half hour. On a prior visit I had tried ravioli special and though ravioli was good, the meat sauce was dry with meat too broken-up. We came for lunch here around noon. There were 4 people in our party + small child. We all ordered the lunch special - two slices of pizza and a drink and then one kids Alfredo. After about 45 minutes of waiting, the waiter apologized and indicated the pizza was still in the oven. After about an hour and fifteen minutes of sitting, we couldn't wait any longer as we had a church event that afternoon. We went to register to pay for the food and ask it be made to go. They over charged for what we ordered but at this point we really just needed to go and didn't have time to ask for itemized bill. The pizza was mediocre. We were searching for some Italian food on a random Sunday and we're out this way so I discovered this restaurant, and I am so glad I did! The chicken Parmesan was absolutely delicious!!! I would definitely love to go back just for that! The portions are a great size, I am with chicken and pasta, no salad. 5/5. I did have to ask for bread, but it was worth the wait! The lasagna was also a 4.5/5. I personally didn't love the pizza crust, so I wouldn't go back for pizza. It was hard, not chewy at all, how I like it unless it's super thin crust. Good prices, decent food, friendly service. The two gnocchi dishes were judged to be very good. The spinach ravioli also got a good rating. The Philly cheesesteaks were said to be "just right" from 2 Philly-born diners. The one negative note was the Mediterranean pasta. Ingredients themselves were OK, but the sauce, if there was one, was without taste and left the pasta itself boring. The dish could also have used more than 2 pieces of artichoke heart. As of 5pm last Friday, we entered phase 2 of the Covid-19 redrawal from the lockdown. Still Susan does not want to go any sit down restaurant even if they are following precautions and social distances. We ordered take out again for 1:15 pm after Susan got to watch Judge Judy. Some of us have different priorities but go with the flow. Placed our order a little after 12 noon. Susan want the Sausage and Peppers Roll with Mozzarella Sticks and I chose the Meat Lover Lasagna. Arrived promptly at 1:15 and walked in to pay and still had to wait. Susan's Sausage and Pepper Roll was just going into the oven but no big deal. Payed for lunch and picked it us and made one more stop on the way home. We stopped at Centre Presbyterian Church Cemetery so that I could pay respects to some of my ancestors who served in the Revolution War. Got home and the food was still pipping hot. Ate on the balcony overlooking the lake. Portion sizes are huge and we had enough left over for another meal. Susan really enjoyed her Sausage and Pepper Roll. We shared an order of 6 mozzarella sticks. Consistency was bland and more like cardboard and the marinara dipping sauce did not even have the zesty freshness of tomatoes. The Meat Lovers Lasagna was good but looking at the packaging, I would hazard a guess that it came from a food service company like Sysco and just popped into the oven. Even so, it was still good. Ordered spaghetti & meatballs, but honestly should've just made it myself instead of ordering from this place.. the meatballs were very mushy and very bland. I was able to smush the meatball with my fork and I was pretty sure if I threw the meatball at a flat surface, it would spread thin. For whatever reason, most places here in the south consider a 16" pizza a large pizza. When I grew up in New Jersey, we just took it for granted that a large pizza was an 18" pizza. Prices are decent here, as well. In addition to their pizza, they also have calzones, wings, salads, subs and Italian food. I have only had the pizza here, so I cannot make any comment on any of the other food. The pizza was good and as I had said earlier, priced right. Plus, this left more time to fill up on bread (always a plus). First things. The kids they hire are great. They're working their hardest. It's the owner, Miguel, who is unprofessional and quick to anger when challenged. When a customer calls to complain, in an even tempered way, you should start with, "I'm sorry you feel that way". Not try invalidate the customer's opinion and accuse them of trying to get a free meal. That, understandably I think, left me incensed. I called to complain about the portion size, about how it was much smaller than when they opened. I initially spoke with a worker and told them that I understood that maybe it was the hard times of the pandemic that caused them to start putting everything in smaller containers and decrease the size of the portions in those containers, but whatever, I wasn't happy about it and I wanted someone to tell the management the opinion of one of their customers. So the worker put the owner on the phone. I repeated my complaint in a very matter of fact way. It was then that Miguel escalated the incident, told me every reason why my assumptions were wrong (I guess because they shrank the portion size and changed the recipes years ago when he took over and not during the pandemic), and then rudely suggested that I was trying to force a resolution and get something for free which was never the point. He then had an argument with me, becoming increasingly accusatory and calling me out for raising my voice after he suggested I was some kind of freeloader. Then he hung up. All I needed was, "I hear you, I'm sorry you feel that way." Boom. Instead of considering a legitimate complaint (look at how much calamari comes in an order compared to other places some day), he chose to insult, enrage and ultimately, lose a good customer. The food is acceptable, pizza and other cheese and sauce dishes are fine, especially for this area. The picatta and carbonara are garbage. Stay away from them if you're Italian and know what those dishes are actually supposed to taste like. And never, ever complain because at Maola's, Miguel, the owner, will do his damned best to put you in your place. read more

As everywhere else their prices have definitely gone up ... but their pizzas are huge and they do not skimp on toppings. Going a full-on 5 Stars after one visit for take out and doing so with zero reservations. Maola's is a dynamite addition to the LKN food scene. What they offer is great NY style Italian with pizza and pasta taking center stage on a menu that also includes salads, hot heros, calzones/rolls and a variety of classic entrees. I can't comment too much on the pizza since we ordered one with extra pepperoni and no sauce to accommodate a picky son but with some side marinara dumped on, it tasted great and had a good thin, chewy crust. We tried three other dishes. Rigatoni with bolognese, spaghetti with meatballs and lasagna. Check, check and check! Huge portions (We're now eating leftovers for lunch) for a good price and really tasty. Re. the pasta offerings, check this out... Choose from four different types of pasta and then pick from THIRTEEN different sauces! Word seems to be out as every table was full when I walked in around 7:00 on a Sunday. Maola's is not as delicate and refined in their offerings like a Caruso's in Mooresville but they aren't trying to be either. We get takeout from here quite often. It's always very tasty and satisfying. It's not cheap, but portions are generous. I think we have tried all the pastas, which are addictive. I don't even like Alfredo sauce, but theirs is delectable. The appetizers are all delicious as well. I definitely recommend it. read more
