Pepperoni pinwheels and Nona slice of pizza
Meesh G.

We have ordered from Brooklyn South since it was established in 1998 and used to be on the other side of the road by Harris Teeter. It's the best New York style pizza in the area. With that being said, it is no where close to having a slice of pizza in NYC, but it's the closest you will get to one from this area. The sauce has a little sweetness to it, and you can taste all those spices in it. They put a good amount of cheese, and the dough has the right amount of crunch. We tried the pinwheels for the first time. The flavor was nice as you can really taste the pepperoni, but it was unfortunately overcooked.

Walked in to get a togo New York style pizza. Just cheese. Girls at the counter were very nice and helpful. When you walk in you can tell it's a New York style place in the south. Pizza was fantastic! Above average for sure. Foldable and crust was crisp to perfection. Very pleased with the outcome. Great job!

Stopped in for lunch on the recommendation of some Facebook group who claimed they have awesome garlic knots and NY style pizza. So glad I did! The person who took my order was so incredibly nice and helpful! She gave me recommendations, talked to me about real estate and even brought me a go box without asking. Sweet! This is one of those establishments where you order at the counter and go sit down with a "neighborhood" in NYC as your number. They'll bring out the food to you. I didn't feel like getting garlic knots AND pizza, so I opted for the knots and chicken parm on the recommendation of my server. The garlic knots were indeed excellent, but a bit dry. I love the knots that have the garlic butter poured on them. These are served with a cup of marinara that was yummy. The chicken parm was ok. The chicken tenders were huge and the portion was enormous. It truly was enough for 3 meals, especially when you get the knots, too. I'd definitely try something different next time. The cool thing about this restaurant is the sheer number of pizzas and pies you can get by the slice. When I go back, and I will be back, I'm getting one of those slices. The Good * The Service was so kind and helpful * Tons of room in the dining room * Garlic knots The Bad * The bathroom wasn't my favorite Bottom line: They are known for their pizza. Try that!

Pretty good pizza! I can say that if you really go for thin, foldable crust.... You will like this Za. They are in a shopping strip but if you blink you might miss it, but I did not blink so I didn't miss it. I have been going here for a few years now, and they always take a while to heat up the pizza, and though they don't do anything extra there is a tip jar on the counter and a space to write in tips on your to go receipt. The place is clean and cutely decorated with black & white historical New York City photographs. The tables are always clean if you'd like to sit, but most people seem to take their orders to go. I appreciate the fact that you can buy single slices, I usually get the lunch special of two cheese slices and a fountain drink for around five bucks. I have had their soup and it was really nice, as I recall. I remember getting an order of wings for my hubby. He said that they were zesty with just the right amount of spice and left nothing but bones on his plate! They offer an eclectic mix of bottled beers, both domestic and some international. The fountain drinks are self service. Here the sweetened iced tea and pink lemonade blend for a pretty decent Arnold Palmer. Admittedly I may be guilty of a bit of an over simplification here, but at the end of the day isn't a good Arnold Palmer what it's really all about?

Fantastic food, easy atmosphere, family friendly. Quick service. Definitely looking forward to coming back and trying more on the menu, specifically the hoagies. They look amazing. Also, good to know I can order to go and while I wait maybe enjoy a glass of wine

Ask the Community - Brooklyn South Pizzeria

Okay there are a bunch of NYkers posting about pizza.Well I'm looking for a better than good NEW HAVEN style pizza. Which is actually where the best pizza is made (google new haven pizza). Anyway not judging anyone, but is this the only place?

ok, so Brooklyn south is not a New Haven pizza, but more like a Brooklyn pizza and the closest I have found so far. Alinos in Mooresville is more like a New have pizza but they cannot get that crispy crust, even when requested. They do the pan… Read more

They do not take reservations, so you have to get there to get on list. Today happened to be a perfect Tuesday evening to go; there was no wait. The waitress wasted no time to come over and share all the appetizer and main course specials. She did a great job explaining the dishes and answering any concerns. If she wasnt sure, she made sure to get clarification with any substitutions. Everything we had was very good. Each item was either fresh or well seasoned. After an amazing dinner, we were offered the dessert menu. We all were full but the waitress reminded us that we would get a complimentary teramisu or cannoli for my aunts birthday. We picked the tiramisu. Which was amazing. The ambiance is very warm with low-light dining. Will definitely be returning for special occasions or if company comes to town. See you again Antico

I shared the pesto cappelini with my child-it was not very good, we gave the pesto pasta a 1.5/5 Neither of us had much interest in eating more. My partner had the chicken cacciatore 3/5 rating. This was more palatable however, my husband says it's definitely not one of the best that he's had.. I server was nice and attentive when getting us the drinks, however, they did not check on the food quality once. But towards the end of the meal as my son and I were not touching our food, they asked us if we wanted boxes to go - it was quite obvious. They were trying to do this to free up the table. However, my partner was still working on their dish As we left the restaurant, it was surprising the line of people waiting outside for a table, I hope they had a better experience. The ambience inside felt OK, but it was nothing extraordinary, however, the weight staff all had professional looking uniform.

I was seated facing the kitchen in a booth. I just loved the decor with the bricks, open kitchen, and warehouse ceiling. The wood, beams and bricks were reclaimed materials from Manhattan, adds old world charm. The Easter decorations were a nice touch. My amazing waitress created me a mocktail with ginger beer and cranberry. It was colorful and wonderful. It had some tang to it. The Italian restaurant has Neopolitan pizzas and Italian dishes. It was so hard deciding what to select from the menu. If I hadn't just had shrimp, the shrimp scampi would have been what I ordered. Then there was a lasagna with a bechamel sauce I really wanted. But the pizza won out. My waitress talked me into the salad I was debating, too. The salad was Dolce Crostata. It has mixed lettuce, goat cheese, pancetta, candied pecans and golden raisins. I like the salads with fruit, and this one was wonderful. Novanta means 90 in Italian, which is the 90 seconds it takes to cook the pizza. It goes into the 900-degree Italian wood-fired oven. The pizza was a true Neapolitan with the soft, airy crust and a little bit of char on it. It tasted as good as it looked. I wanted a second pizza after my first slice, but I had trouble finishing the first and had to take half of the salad to go. I did love every bite of the margherita pizza and salad. This is a large restaurant with a great open layout, which makes it perfect for big groups and families. The outdoor seating area is especially nice, with comfortable chairs and a relaxed atmosphere where people can sit and enjoy themselves without feeling rushed. Inside, the place has a modern warehouse-style feel with brick, wood, and open kitchen views. You can actually see the pizza ovens working, which is always a good sign. The dining room has energy without feeling chaotic, and the sanitation rating posted up front was a solid A (96.0), which always gives you a little extra peace of mind. Our server Jessica was very friendly and attentive throughout the evening. We started with the meatballs and burrata crostini. I couldn't eat the burrata because of the dairy, but the meatballs were outstanding--very meaty, rich flavor and a terrific tomato sauce. A great start to the meal. My wife had the house salad, which looked very fresh. Mixed greens, tomatoes, and peas--simple but well done. She skipped the onions, which they handled without any issue. For the main course, she ordered the Marinara pizza, and it was excellent. The sauce had great flavor and the pizza had that classic Neapolitan look--thin center, charred edges, and simple ingredients done right. She enjoyed the whole thing. I had the calzone and paired it with a local beer, "What He's Having" IPA from Wooden Robot Brewing in Charlotte, which was a great choice. The calzone itself tasted very good, but it was a little uneven on the filling. I ordered double pepperoni, and one side had most of it while the other side had very little. That said, the crust and flavor were still very enjoyable. Overall, everything was very good. The atmosphere is lively, the food is flavorful, and it's a great spot if you're dining with a group or family. Bottom line: Novanta is a fun, energetic Italian spot with solid Neapolitan-style pizza, a welcoming environment, and good service. Definitely worth a visit.
