Name should be March Past. Very light trim (because I really only needed color) and full color - which, God help me - can only be described as "mousy brown." I'd shown her several photos of my hair, taken over the last two years. In none of them was my hair brown. I recolored my hair myself later, that day, with L'Oreal, something I haven't done in at least a decade. It's still too dark. The more I look in the mirror, the angrier I get. I visit Carmel fairly regularly and on two previous visits had two of the worst haircuts ever, bar none. (I reviewed them--make that plastered them --under each parlors business names.) I was placed with Letty. Attention to detail and thoroughness are the hallmarks of her trade. Ask for Letty when making your appointment--and be aware that this is a salon requiring a several week lead time to secure a reservation. Tell her "Keith sent me". March Hare is the place to go if you are looking for a professional hair stylist. I had not had my hair done in 5 years because it is difficult to find someone who can work well with fine hair. I was so lucky to get an appointment on a Saturday. I arrived early & got a front parking space downtown Carmel on a Saturday again, right in front of the salon. How lucky is that? I had Letti & she took me early which was super nice. I was scheduled for a must needed haircut. She shampooed & conditioned my hair nicely & gave me the haircut. I have long hair & usually wear it curly, but asked if she could blow dry it straight & so she did which was really nice. It was a great experience. I came to this salon after getting a terrible color job at a very expensive salon in LA. Maryanne fixed my cut and miraculously got my hair back to a normal color. I always enjoy going here and consider this salon as good as any in more metropolitan areas. It is not inexpensive but I wouldn't expect it to be. I went in to have my base darkened and some red added to my blonde highlights to achieve a fall look. After 3 tries, I ended up with Letty completely covering my blonde highlights... and no red at all. For $470 - YES, 470 US Dollars - I ended up with dark brown hair (no highlights). The owner, Marianna, was in the store after the first try - said not to worry, they would make it right. After the second try, she said come back in a couple of days and we'll fix it. After now over 6 hours of my time, I (in good faith) came back for a third try. Letty had completely removed all highlights from my hair, and guess what? Marianna (the owner) had nothing to say about it. No apology, no offer to refund my $470 based on the disaster my hair had become... nothing - dead silence! Unless you want the opposite of what you ask for and have $ to burn, do not go to this salon EVER! They clearly, despite claiming YEARS of experience, have no ability to deliver what they promise. read more

Marche Hair is a small but beautiful salon. The staff there is professional, warm and extremely talented. This salon is everything that a salon should be. Most importantly, the staff can really cut hair. Monica is amazing. I actually went to a different salon and was so disappointed. Had to go to Monica to fix it and she did a wonderful job. This salon has been voted best salon in Carmel by the Carmel Pine Cone for two years in a row. And it deserves it. They know what they are doing here and it shows in the overall presence of the shop. If you are considering a salon in the area, consider Marche Hair. It's the best. DO NOT confuse this with the other Aveda salon in Carmel. You will be sadly disappointed if you do. read more

This is the only place I will have my hair cut. The owner truly understands it is an art to cut hair. The cuts she gives last and hold up well over time. Sure, it's not cheap, but between the cut and the Aveda products, my hair looks better than it has in years. I've been going here for several years, and plan to continue. read more

I'm quite surprised by all the negative reviews. Yes it is pricey but you get what you pay for. Ny cut and color still look good months later. Blonde highlights on dark hair usually get brassy pretty quickly but my color doesn't change between appointments. I have never been misquoted on a price so I can't speak to that but the customer service has always been great. read more

I love March Hair and Aveda products. This is also the only place in town that offers reward points for Aveda. The only reason why it is not 5 stars is because of the price. I was in town for a wedding. Came for a simple blow out. Arrived with my hair washed, conditioned and wet. I was staying around the corner. Blow out was ok. Purchased a 2 oz can of hair spray. Total upon check out was $86.00. If you are contemplating a blow out or any styling service ASK for pricing before you book. I live in Chicago and an amazing blowout is $40. I went to this salon for the first time last week and i must admit that the service was pretty good. I am giving the salon 1 star due to their pricing--worse than LA ladies. they charged me $250 for an allover color, that is the same as my natural color. I called them to discuss the exorbitant charges and was told that due to the amount and length of my hair that she felt it was warranted (btw, I have very fine, medium length hair). There are other Aveda salons close by that are much more reasonable. Don't be taken for a ride and leave with an empty pocket book. read more

What a rip off! I was unfortunate enough to end up with Maryanna, the owner. My foil "touch up", for what should have been half a head of hair, ended up being one strip of color down the middle of my head with three miserly foils on either side at the crown. I guess she's so greedy, that she had the opportunity to squeeze in a haircut at the last minute and didn't even color 1/4 of my head. Total bill for that quarter head of haircolor and a haircut? $375.00. Hope it was worth it, you'll never get another dime from me again. All she did was complain about how much the remodel to her salon cost her. I guess she was trying to recoup the cost of her entire remodel in my one visit to her salon. NEVER AGAIN! read more

When I first moved to Carmel, my hair went crazy. I would start the day with good hair, but the moment I stepped into the fog my hair would start to grow into a giant puff ball of frizz. The moisture also turned half of my head into Medusa-like spirals. Not pretty. I spent hundreds on new styling products and new hot tools. Nothing worked until I wandered into this salon. Nothing takes the place of an excellent hair cut. The owner sat me down and corrected the hideous bangs another salon had given me. She then cut my hair with the curl. It was amazing the difference the cut made. Since that initial cut I've gone back several times, and each time I'm reminded that a really good cut is better than any styling aid. She is THE most talented colorist/stylist ever, always consistent and always a delight to be with during each and every appointment. The salon is peaceful, light, airy and full of great energy. The minute I enter I relax immediately and am delighted with the thought of being there for a couple of hours. The minute I met Maryanna, the owner, I realized i was in extremely competent hands. She is THE best colorist I have had in decades and never fails to be consistent in her applications of highlights and lowlights. And her cuts are fabulous. This is talent at its best. Her receptionist, CJ, is also a delight, always attentive and unfailingly kind. Her staff is comprised of well-trained, highly professional stylists, all of whom can be relied upon for excellent cuts and color, as well. The salon, a perfect central Carmel location, pleases the senses from the minute one enters. The Aveda product line is impressive and impeccably displayed. Never overpowering, the trademark Aveda scents immediately offer anyone who enters a very pleasurable experience. My hair went from over-processed to beautifully conditioned after my first visit, thanks to the gentle blends of ayurvedic herbs and essences in the shampoo, conditioner and other products I now consider musts for regular hair grooming.
