I recently returned with my mother on March, feeling in the mood to give back. Just basic cut which is $14 per person +tip. Our appointment was at 1pm, my mother received someone and I received someone. I would say both of our students had no idea what they were doing. By 4pm, our hair wasn't cut and the student was waiting for the Instructor to come and rescue. When mine was done.... I dunno I received I guess the most disingenuous comment "Oh! Your hair looks so nice!" Let me be clear, when you hear that 4 time and girls following one another saying it's so beautiful you realized they were trained in school to say that on auto pilot. My mom was the last victim, the hair cut did not match her picture. She wanted a cute pixie with bangs, it looked like Ellen DeGeneres instead with no bangs-also done by the instructor. Also followed by a stream of students saying the same compliment-occasionally some asking to wash their hair while they wait to close up. So we were stuck in our seats for 3hours each- our hair cut by the instructor. For a paid cut, I mean if you are ready to lose a whole day, it's pretty cheap. Just be ready to wait 3hrs-no less than that. Marca College has been a back up option that my mom was once amused watching and learning the cutting style- but to be the first one in and the last one out- she felt zero-ed out as the neglected customer for a paid cut. read more

Today I got a treatment and a haircut by a young woman Trisitine at the Danforth location. I have really course hair and she had explained to me that it was her first time working on 4C hair. I told her it was okay and I didn't mind if she went a little rough (people with my type of course hair are use to it). She took her time, and I reasured her through each step. In the end my hair turned out great and I loved the cut and style! I am also grateful for the professor who always supported her along the way. I been going here for some time and would always recommend it to friends and family. The way the Professors are really helpful to their students and how polite and welcoming the atmosphere is, it's always a pleasure coming by. read more

I been coming to Marca College for over 5 years and I never had a bad experience. I always get so many complements when they do my hair. I recently went for a style and I got a girl name Priscilla ( I don't know if I spell her name correctly) but she was very professional , kind sweet and very happy, she made sure I got what I wanted. Keep in mind that you are going to a school, sometimes you get an advance student sometimes you get a beginner student but the teachers are always there from the minute you seat on that chair to the end, so you can not get wrong! I wanted my hair wavy and after spending almost 4 hours at the salon, I walked out with my hair looking almost the same as when I walked in. I paid $100. When I spoke to the manager and teacher, they said that is what I asked for. They didn't seem to care. I am upset about the amount of money I spent. I could have gone to a professional place. Next time, I will. When I tried to tip the student, she didn't accept and was feeling uncomfortable. Maybe she felt it wasn't done right. I visited Marca Collge so I could get a professional consult on a hair cut. I was attended to by Natasha a student of 2 months. She was chatty, friendly, factual and honest about her time in the job and informative on the procedure being conducted on my hair. I learnt a few techniques of how to work in hair styles post cut Her teacher also provided suggestions on what cut would lend itself to a hair style later in the month. Natasha was also very gentle with my hair (my hair is delicate) during the hair cut, hair wash and hair styling process. I appreciated her educating me each step of the way and as well leaning in on her teacher whenever she needed an opinion. It was a pleasant experience and the end result was appreciated by friends and family (my husband who otherwise always has an issue with my hair cuts said I should repeat the same cut again). read more

This is my 3rd time coming here for balayage and I am never disappointed with my experience here. The staff are friendly and super helpful in explaining what they will be doing Elanor and Ruba are awesome by the way! Elanor is an amazing instructor andtotally down to earth . She was helpful in explaining the difference between my past 2 experience and the current one. Ruba who's in training right now doing the balayage is such a sweet lady! I have no doubt in my mind that she will be pro soon! Would recommend to my friends and family if they ever want to experiment a bit! This is a college, so one has to understand that you are getting a service from students who will be marked for their job. Hence: be patient. Sometimes I get an experienced student and another times the beginner. There is no booking. All of it means that it will take time to get in and some more time to have it done. I've been visiting this place (@ Rockwood Mall) for years, now. I switched from my 'professional' hairdresser for two reasons: 1 - I was never happy how my hair was done: either I was persuaded to change the color I wanted or the haircut: "This will be much better!"; 2 - the price was too high. At least, I'm giving the opportunity for someone to learn on me. Be aware: students don't jump on your hair straight from the books. They have practiced a lot on mannequins before they were allowed to work on your hair. Additionally, hair colors are professional line. Some students understand different hair quality, some 'listen' to the customer and some go by the scheme they are most comfortable with. Most instructors do a good job translating customers' requests to students. Instructors are all professional hairdressers, so some of them could be like mine old one, but most of them are there for students to help them learn and grow. If you want to save some money and have patience: this is much better solution than most of the professional saloons. You will get a good quality color and a very decent haircut and styling for affordable price. At the same time, you have helped some student to get the experience and become a good hairdresser. read more

THE STAFF AND STUDENT REFUSED TO CUT MY HAIR They are in fact a school for junior and senior hairstylists, so expecting that they would know how to cut every kind of hairstyle was wrong on my part. I just wanted to get a haircut because I had a bad day and I left this place saddened, embarrassed and with bangs. Firstly, I believe consultation is a good idea before any capes or towels are put on. Asking what kind outcome the client wants is a smart move in case you cannot perform the task; perhaps you can find someone who can, or suggest other options. The front desk should probably disclose that there are limitations to what they can do in terms of haircuts and I would have taken my business elsewhere, however the front desk were very adamant that they could cut my hair. Secondly, I had a conversation three separate times with the Instructor and at first she said "It's not a haircut, so we can't do it". I obviously didn't know what that meant, and the second time I asked she said "It's a street style, you can go home and cut it yourself" and "There is no technique to show [the student] because it's not a haircut". Obviously I was still confused so I got a trim and bangs and left. As I was leaving I mentioned to the front desk that they weren't able to cut my hair how I wanted them to. Confused, I asked if there were senior stylists who were able to cut my hair (thinking that the junior stylists weren't able to because they just don't know anything but trimming hair for now). The Instructor came back and finally told me "It is not part of the curriculum. We would get in trouble if we did that. There is no technique to cutting your hair, so we cannot show [the students] how to do it." I had to clarify that literally NO ONE at Marca College could cut my hair with the instructor she said that was correct. This changes my outlook on becoming a potential student at Marca College because it seems as though problem solving and creativity are not really a focus in the teaching here. Forgive me if I am wrong, but I am very sure that using very basic "techniques" to cut hair to achieve a hairstyle is the essence of hair cutting and being a professional hair stylist. In case you were wondering, the hair style I wanted was as follows: If my hair is separated into four quadrants, the two quadrants at the back closest to the nape of the neck are to be kept long, but trimmed; and the two quadrants in the front (running across the top of my head from ear to ear closest to my face) was to be cut in a long bob. THAT'S IT. (I had uneven grow out from having my left side of my head shaved years ago and all I wanted was to make both sides even.) It's an unusual request, but Marca College could not deliver. P.S. Before I left, I asked the student how I could go about cutting my own hair at home as the Instructor so rudely suggested and the student gave me step by step instructions and techniques on how to do it at home. read more

The manicure was great, but I hated the colour. I wanted royal blue and ended up with navy. When I realized the mistake it was too late and when I complained, they wouldn't fix it. They said too bad. Won't ever have another manicure again b/c of this. It cost me $29 and there are other cheaper places to go with better colour selection. Being a little tight on money, I decided to look into having a bikini wax at Marca College. Online the service is priced at $15-20. So I thought great, half the cost of doing it at my regular place. I got there, everything was fine. Signed a form saying that I knew I was getting a service done by a student. I was introduced to one girl (forgot her name) she was nice, asked me what I was doing, went into a big room that was divided into three sections with curtains (like in a hospitals ER room) and left while I got settled. The girl, along with a second girl came in and started getting to work. They were nice, we talked, had no problems with them at all. They were having a little trouble with pulling out the hair, and tried different techniques and waxes and stuff like that. They were polite and took their time, made sure I was okay. My only gripe was that it took an hour and fourty five minutes to do a 20 minute (tops) wax job. However, part of that blame was on me because I had let the hair grow too long that it made it difficult to wax. My BIGGEST problem was the fact that the other students in the room doing waxes on other people or whatever, thought it was okay to open the curtain and look in during my procedure. That seriously erked me and would stop me from going there again. I don't know how they would think that would be okay? I mean I can honestly say it happened about more than 5 times. An instructor finally came along and had to help finish me, but she was nice, took her time, explained to me why it was problematic and all of that. At the end of the day, I ended up paying $40, which I wouldn't go back for. I had no problems with the procedure or anything like that, the price would stop me from going back, along as my experience with the students. The girl who stayed from beginning to end to finish the procedure I had no problems with (don't remember her name? An asian girl) she was nice and made me feel comfortable. When the girl she first started working with had left to do a test of some sort, she always asked me if it was okay if she brought someone else to help her. Which I really appreciated. I just didn't like the random girls looking into the room :/ Not sure if I would go back for a wax, but I might try a manicure/pedicure or haircut. read more

I usually do not have issues with marca and its pretty decent. Ive gotten my hair styled for prom there and they did very well. You can not expect an outstanding hair cut because they are in fact still students learning but they do pretty well. The reason i give them 3 stars is because i waited 45 min before asking how much longer it will take and I left since there was more people that had to go before me while all I wanted was a wash and trim. read more

Hello! I visited this campus today, and I just wanted to say its a far shot from what it used to be! I used to come primarily in the afternoons because I didn't like dealing with some of the morning staff as I found them to be rude and inattentive of the customers. To my surprise I saw the old afternoon girl (my apologies I can't remember her name, the red head) had been moved to mornings. Every afternoon she was there to greet me with a smile, and even if I left unhappy with the service (which I understand are students as the form you sign states) she was always quick to help me with any questions or concerns, or ways to assist me with my issues. I was delighted to come in and see her once again sans pregnant tummy. The morning with the new staff is a large leap in the right direction! This campus is on the rise. As for my service, I had a shampoo, cut and blow dry which also went smoothly. The instructors were like eagles on the floor keeping watch for any students which may need direction or guidance. 5/5 for today, quite happy with the positive changes Marca has enforced. read more

Hi, I only say do not even consider doing your nails in Marca ( Mississauga ) Branch. I have done it twice and each time I had to return. First time I called and told them 4 of my nail shelac came off the day after and since I could not schedule my time around their time I went back 2 days after I called them. Second time even worse. I have done them yesterday and had to repeat some 3 of them while there as the girl was in rush to leave and turned to mess and lost at least another 1 hour extra there. And my pedicure had to be fixed on one nail and even if I sat there for 2 hours and half and left with no shoes only paper shoes. And wore my shoes only 30 min after I left 2 of my nails were messed up. Maybe because of their colors being old, maybe because they don't have proper fan to dry. And today I have to call them also for 2 of my mani-shlac that came off. Just imagine the time and waste and my poor nails being destroyed as the result of their inconsiderate care for clients. Maybe the $10 or $15 save is not worthy if you are reading my review! well I agree with you and today I won't ask them to fix it, I only go there to show it as I have not time to sit and do them again and I can not be bothered any longer. But hair color service is good, the blow dry is an average. I went back to the college and met the director and discussed with her my serious concerns, specially that I couldn't sleep because of one of my nails. The smallest right hand finger unfortunately I learnt that was sanded too much and that's why for that finger the shellac polish painted. For 2 nights in row I had to wrap and put a lot of vitamins A and D cream on it. So she was very understanding and followed through all our conversations. She took some points and note down and even she has a great passion for her student and work, she agreed that no matter what ever the circumstance of any student is once they take responsibilities in the society and specially in service industry they got to perform their best in order to last in the market and continue to earn their living with pride. I feel for their life and stage of life and I have been there too though if we don't learn to separate our job and private life from one another we will have hard time to move on and make it better. I really appreciate her, even though she offered free nail polish and mani-pedi for the moment I refused as I had to fix 2 feet and 3 hand nails over the weekend as well as my small finger I removed all and it's still in bandage. She also offered a free blow dry. I think she is one of the unique special successful lady I met in my life and I wish her best and I am certain she will continue doing better in her business. read more

I went to get information about the courses they offer, only for the receptionist to pull all the papers away from me, and yell in a rude way to come back another time! keep in mind i didn't come before they were closing or at a time where it was busy.. They rude receptionist just decided to be rude because she felt like it! I don't think a school like this should act in an unprofessional way to its prospective students.. To whom it may concern, I am writing today to complain of the poor service that I received from Marca College at the Dixie location on April 12th , 2016. I went to Marca to get my hair done. Usually I go to the Brampton location but of recent, to be specific this time and the last time about a month ago I have had to go to the Dixie location. The experience was so painful , I felt like I was getting my appendix removed. Upon arrival I was greeted by a very grumpy receptionist who refused to smile, it's almost like she forgot how to smile which is not surprising as the whole place seemed like a zoo with the students yelling and swearing at each other...one must ask who is in control of such a mess? Why does this person still have a job? Back to the receptionist...she was unable to answer any of my questions or give me any sort of guidance because 1) she did not care 2) there was way too many of her peers around for her to care about anything I had to say. Simply put I have never met a more mean/evil/rude receptionist, I believe she would be a great exorcist though (scare ghosts away like she scares customers). Finally after waiting what felt like a decade I was finally attended to by a hair stylist. I was very excited to get my hair coloured for our 10th anniversary but the hair stylist told me there was no product. What kind of school has no product? Honestly this question must be posed again...who's running this place? Marca needs to reevaluate who ever that is running this place as this wasn't the first time. Talk about disappointment. I conveyed to the hair stylist my disappointment in the lack of product and the hair stylist told me this is all that they are provided with. Seriously? Appalling. Meanwhile the director's walking around with colour on her hair ...I saw the director of this place the last time walking around with colour on her hair as well. No wonder this place is a big giant mess. The person who's running this place is too busy pretending to being a client while getting paid to be "the boss of the worst run salon in the universe". two years ago i enrolled in marca college at the dixie and burnhamthorpe location. i was going through mental instability because of medication a doctor prescribed me. i had troubles staying awake due to the medication. the head director kept insisting that i quit because i didnt belong there. after months of being put down by the school i quit because my mind wasnt stable enough to do it on my own. i had no support from staff and was left feeling unwanted! now i am unsure what to do because i have a month remaining and was cheated out of my tuition! i was basicly robbed! is there anyone who can help me deal with this matter because my dream and passion was to become a hair stylist and now i feel like i cant do anything to get back on track! i need legal help read more

Went here three times. All three times I had installed a weave and just wanted to get it layered. First time I had a student cut my hair and she did a great job (forgot her name) both second and third time the students looked at my hair (it was 26 inches) and openly said they had no idea what theyre doing and called their supervisor for help. Also the third time i went there just for a cut the receptionist told me i had to get it washed before cutting it. DO NOT GO HERE!!!!!!!!!!! The front desk staff are rude and snarky and eyeball you up and down when you walk in. The wait times are extremely long . I went in to have my roots bleached and it took 1.5 hours of wait time the first time around. The instructor wanted me to use a more expensive bleach bc she said it was less damaging. It was not mixed well and chucks of powder kept falling on my face while the student applied it. They left it on for well over an hour and I came out with uneven orange roots on top with chunks that weren't even processed all along the underside. The worst part was that there was a huge gap of demarcation where the bleach never swelled and covered pretty much all over my head. I called two days later and spoke to the same instructor who told me to come into the salon to have it redone but insisted I would have to come early in the morning only the next day. I work late night shifts so I was unable to get there prior to noon but came back in one weeks time to allow my hair to rest before it was processed again. The second time I arrived, I was shooed away from the front desk being told the wait was over 2.5 hours and I wouldn't be seen despite the fact that the salon was open for another 7 hours that day. I came back three days later again and a different instructor spoke to me at the front desk. She was extremely curt, rude and pushy and told me that their policy is to correct hair within seven days of initial service only, to which, I told her that the other two instructors I spoke to on the phone never mentioned this policy to me ( and I did return in the seven days initially but was told they were too busy to do it ). She then proceeded to harass me as to why I would want to bleach my roots seeing as bleaching causes breakage/damage. Here's the thing! If I want to bleach my roots it's my own damn choice! I'm well aware of the potential risks but I'm not attached to my hair and obviously I was having my roots done to match the rest of my hair so I know how my hair handles bleach. Besides, I wouldn't have had to have it bleached a second time if it was applied evenly and properly the first time around. The actual students I dealt with were polite but all I observed sitting in that chair were the majority of other students gossiping and acting unprofessionally all around me when they approached the hair colour station. I also heard one student refuse to service a client waiting in the lobby when reception approached him about doing the new job because he simply didn't feel like it. What's even worse was watching students playing on their phones while customers sat around their stations and looked on. Obviously the instructors have yet to teach these students how disrespectful they will seem in real salons when they pull out their phones while working on a client. One girl even had her feet resting on another chair and didn't seem to care who saw her. Please pay the extra money and have it done right the first time without the attitude and unprofessional environment. read more

I have been to this location four or five times. Every time I've gone I have gotten a different student and they were all reasonably good and professional. The last student I had was Erica and she was phenomenal. I decided to bring my daughter with me this time and was hoping to get Erica again but she was busy with someone else. So my daughter ended up with a part time student and I ended up with a student that was starting her first day. We were both so disappointed with the work done. It took three and a half hours to get roots coloured for me and ombre color for my daughter.. My student really didn't know what she was doing. She missed the whole front of my head and it had to be touched up by two other students. Then when she washed it out, she left color all along the back of my head. Had to wash it again. At this point I was so frustrated that I didn't even get her to blow dry it. My daughters hair was a disaster. She brought a photo in of how she wanted her hair and it turned out terrible. Nothing like the picture. It was orange with an inch of brown roots. She came out crying. I would have complained but we had already spent so much time there and there was really no way of fixing my daughters hair other than colouring the whole head a dark color. Which is not what she wanted. My complaint is basically that the teachers should really guide the students better and make sure the customers are happy with the end results. Even though the prices are cheaper than a salon, we are still spending money and we want a good result. read more
