Having been a frequent visitor and part-time resident of Lucerne since the late 60's, I've seen a lot of changes over the years. When I was really young, staying with my grandparents, the only options for groceries up here were Lakeview Market or Nice Market, or if you wanted to drive to Lakeport you could go to Bruno's. Well as time has passed much has changed. Mar-Val Sentry Market opened a couple decades ago, I guess, making it much easier to get a good selection of groceries on this side of the lake. Now if you want to make the drive to Lakeport you can visit Safeway. My how things have changed! Back to Sentry... selection is good, staff are friendly, store is clean, and most importantly the location is convenient for those staying in Glenhaven, Lucerne, Nice, and Upper Lake. Prices are a bit on the high side, but the convenience makes it worth the extra cost! I'm sure when I'm up at the Lake, I'll be shopping at Sentry, just as I have this trip and many before. read more

Stopped in to grab an early lunch. Found a fully loaded chicken salad in the deli section. A friendly customer service rep helped me, very courteous. The salad was a delicious choice: it contained generous amounts of cooked chicken, onion, HB egg, celery, mayo, cranberries and more. Great choice! This place used to be my favorite local store. As of lately the have hired a bunch of people that don't know how to do their jobs. I was in there today buying my daughter some popsicles at the self checkout. After I paid and took my receipt. I was Followed out by a guy who looked like the annoying spikey blonde guy from storage. He tried telling me I didn't pay for my purchase. Dragging me back into the store demanding I pay for my purchase again. I told him I paid and showed him the receipt that was printed. It was a receipt of the customer before me that didn't print. After showing him the receipt he told me I paid for his purchase and I had to pay for mine again or ask the previous customer for my money back. All while 4 more new cashier's I have never seen all surrounded me over a box of popsicles that were $6. After telling them I paid. they refused to listen until I demanded the blonde spikey haired guy to go back into the registers history. He then told me that I would have to take it up with the cameras upstairs. Demanding I pay again because it would take time to look at the cameras. I finally snapped. I said "look I paid for my purchase. I even left the change in the machine." After losing my cool the blonde spikey hair guy finally went into the register and printed my receipt proving I paid. There were no apologies. Only rude cashiers that are obviously not from around lake county. I grew up in nice and sentry market was a store you could go in and have full conversations with the cashiers because we either grew up together or they worked at the store for so long. Now you go into the store and it's a hassle. All of the new workers are rude and have terrible customer service. Before I was accused of stealing my stepdad asked if self checkout took cash and another new cashier snapped at him saying they all take cash and called him stupid. This used to be a store you could go to and not have to worry about the workers being rude and unhelpful. Only cashier that is still there after all these years is a woman named Kathy. If she seen these workers act like that towards me. She would have fired them on the spot. Go to upper lake grocery or Lakeview market in Lucerne instead. Sentry market is not the same since marvals bought them out. Go support your local mom and pop stores and keep the money in the county. Let keep lake county city slicker free. read more

Plus side - Mar-Val has everything you need in groceries. Down side - Pricey $$$ Hours are convenient and they are usually fully staffed. Overall, a nice clean grocery store. read more

Went there while staying at Worldmark in town. Flies all over the onions and in the bags of potatoes. Homeless sitting on the benches outside smoking cigarettes and going into the store wandering through the isles. No checkers in the morning only through express. Nightime is like night of the living dead. Never will step foot in that place again. read more

Horrible" Tina" was very unprofessional rude disrespectful and unkind in my opinion due to the fact that I have a service animal and she did not believe he was a service animal and went above and beyond her call of duty which would have been to ask his service and what he performs and when as far as to say I'm a liar and refuse to give me her name I only got it because I spoke to management read more

Great little market that has everything you could want when staying in Nice without wasting time going across the lake. People there are so nice and courteous. Yeah their prices are higher but what do you want or expect in a lake town that caters to tourists. It is what it is. Don't sweat it. It's clean and very well stocked. Good jobs everybody! read more

The only reason I am giving 4 stars is bc prices are high. As a local, I could use more sales. I could use a better organic produce/fruit section too. But it's clean, staff is local, I know them, they know me, the manager is good (the store improved a LOT under this management), and the solar panels are nice in the parking lot but they seem to have shooed the birds away that I loved. It goes to show, those things aren't healthy. Also, prices did not go down after the panels went up, even though they must be saving a good buck by using solar. I love the trees outside in spring when they bloom. They could plant more trees, maybe? Oh, I almost forgot to talk about the products. It's good. I find anything I need and if not, they will order. What I like most about century market is the prepared and fresh foods. I buy the chickens that have been seasoned and cooked to perfection. I like the fresh food in the deli. I like the sushi section. I'm shopping around the perimeter of the store because everything is in the middle is processed Sugar junk. read more

Basically the only place you want to buy your groceries if you're staying in Nice. They do also have a dollar general nearby if you need to pick up one or two items, but this is much nicer. The prices are much higher than in the Bay Area. They do have to get the merchandise all trucked in, I'm sure that's why the higher costs. Very clean and well organized. All the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. The deli makes wonderful sandwiches. It was a good shopping experience almost everyone were wearing masks. Highly recommend you check out this grocery store. Bait sold on premises if you're a fisherman or fisherwoman. read more

This is a small chain market (headquartered in Lodi). Though prices are more than your larger chains, they still have a lot of choices. And I've come across quite a few good deals here. The staff is a good team. The meat department has plenty of good deals, check the weekly ad. Monday's have $5 specials . 4 stars because the prices are slightly higher. read more

I used to love Sentry growing up in Lake County, but I'm afraid to say it's gone down hill. Today I tried to get a sandwich from the deli and was going to get a tri-tip sandwich. Pretty simple, trio rip, some bbq, maybe some cheese if I was feeling fancy. Had the form filled out and ready to hand to the person when let me know they actually had them fresh up front, hot and ready to go. I went to the hot case and grabbed one. Searched the packaging to make sure nothing else was on it as I'm not a fan of onions or things like mayo, but the only ingredient listed were tri-tip and BBQ sauce. $9.99, which felt a little high but for tri-tip... oh well. I got back to my office and opened it up and could immediately smell onions and the mayo was leaking out the sides of the inner wrap. I did try to call Sentry and provide feedback that you should have your ingredients listed fully if you're going to have some partially listed. I was placed on hold for several minutes, spoke to a manager that I don't think ever gave his name, and all I got was "Sorry that happened to you." At least an attempt to remedy the situation would have been fantastic, but nothing. He seemed annoyed that I was interrupting his day. He did of course end the call telling me he hopes I will continue to show at sentry... unfortunately I won't be. read more

What a gem! Amazing selection, super clean store (and bathrooms) and the deli selection is impressive. We custom ordered a sandwich, got freshly made potato wedges and chicken strips, and got the edamame quinoa salad. All were great! The man working at the deli counter, Justin, was so helpful and patient as I considered all options and was right on about the quality of the deli salads- family recipes made with all the best ingredients. read more

Local food market in Nice. Prices are high. Fruit doesnt seem to have much flavor..Meat is better here than at Safeway. I like there Jumbo eggs. They really are jumbo. Fresh French bread from the deli is puffy..not like normal French bread that has texture but has a good flavor. Getting waited on at the deli is very long. I've stood there for 10 minutes & deli staff looked as me & acknowledged me & went back to what she was doing & when finished went over & started talking to another worker. I've been standing there & no one else was around & couldn't get served for 8 - 10 minutes. Definetly check cheese before u buy it..I've gotten moldy cheese a couple times. Fried chicken is usually yummy. Sandwiches are yummy but wait time is way too long. Too much chit chat between the deli staff when they should be serving shoppers. This store has a lot of everything, but is VERY overpriced. I only go here when I just don't feel like driving all the way to Lakeport from Nice. They do carry hard to find items I will give them that. It is a small store packed to the ceiling with products. Including lots of beer and hard liquor and wine and fresh produce. Always friendly people working. I've had some great steaks from this place. They even sell prime rated beef and not all markets sell that so it was a nice surprise in nice . The prime ribeye is always a sure bet. The store it self is great. BUT, Their chicken pieces is the worst. Every time every piece is tuff and blan. For 5 years I keep saying I will never buy their chicken again. And I will try again hoping they have changed where they get their chicken from. It taste like and feels like it is older chickens. No more hoping. I will get my chicken from safeway from now on. It cost more but at least I can eat it and it is not older age chickens. Their chicken is the only thing I have a problem with. read more

I love Mar-Val. I think it's a great grocery store for such a little town. I always find what I need. You have to try the Mar-Val Seafood Salad it's the best. Don't forget the Ritz Crackers to go with it. And get a tote or two too it has a great picture of all the little towns around the lake :) read more

I actually like this place they have a great selection and the people who work in the store are nice and friendly... clean store, prices could be better, but noticed they other day that butter was $3.99 there compared to Dollar General for $4.50. So why would I drive to Lakeport to save .25 cents on butter.? It's all relative. We got hamburger from them it was also very good. (stay away from Lakeview Market!) Bakery is good but limited. These people are crooks. They sold me a bottle of liquor and left something on it that made it impossible to open. This rendered the product completely valueless to me. I called them for help and they told me to basically screw off - the only thing I could do is bring it all the way back and get it fixed, no discount, no help, no nothing. They refused to even fix it if I didn't have my receipt, which I had left in the cart, like a normal person would. Never go to this store - they are dishonest and unethical. read more

Extremely hard to go online and get the current grocery ads for mar Val sentry grocery store in nice calif. I used to be on the email list for grocery ads. I spoke to the store manager and he said he would add me again. It never happened. It makes it very difficult to know what is available. read more

Staying at the Worldmark resort and to be honest I was reluctant to go here because of the review by Jon I vacillated between driving to Lakeport where there are more food options but opted to stop at Sentry to check first. Despite Jon's negative review I was pleasantly surprised. I eat consciously and healthily and was happy with the organic selections found throughout the store. I live in a small coastal Oregon town just as remote as Nice and found the prices here to be cheaper. Large selection of grocery, deli, and beverage options including alcohol. Souvenirs and water toys can also be found here. All in all I was happily surprised and found many good deals throughout the store. All of the employees were very attentive and willing to help. And ya know, Jon, I DO buy $5 loaves of bread. And I'm fine with it because that's how much food should cost. read more

Cashiers are always polite,pricey for a little town,vegetables are fresh, they have great bbq meets for sale, love the ales nice and wide.

My husband and I have gotten sandwiches here for a long while and unfortunately, never will again. I swear the bakery deli has gone down hill since the store got bought. Sandwiches are 3.00$ more when you add bacon yet you only get 2 pieces of bacon, that's 0.50¢ at best. They sloppily throw ingredients onto old bread and it's like a cow between 2 slices of bread, so they can put a whole damn animal of lunch meat on the sandwich but only 2 pieces of bacon for $3 more. Dumb. When the sandwich was returned to them to be made correctly they take no responsibility for the mistake and just throw the missing ingredients into a Tupperware. At that point the entire sandwich should've been remade or refunded completely, why pay over 20$ for 3 garbage sandwiches when you can get quality for the same price at Lakeview Market in Lucerne. We will, sadly, no longer buy sandwiches or any other groceries from this store. read more

I work retail and this place is never consistent I get ice cream and every time I order the same thing it comes in a different container a different amount and this last time I went there I ordered chocolate chip ice cream they gave me cookies and cream and I said this is cookies and cream and they said oh we don't have chocolate chip that's what replaced it???? This is a great supermarket, with friendly staff. Has a great deli and their produce is good. The only thing I will give a negative to is purchasing their chicken, it seems to go bad quickly so if you buy it make sure you cook it in a few days. A few times it went sour before the expiration date and I took it back and they provided me a immediate refund. Their prices are kind of high on certain items like bread, but weekly they have sales and usually you can get a good buy. Lately when you go into the store open the door to their frozen food items and dairy items you get a static zap. Sometimes it hurts! Touched the handle on the glass door where the milk is and wow I got a good zap. Don't know what is causing it and have complained about it. The employees even get zapped so I am not the only one so one star off until they correct it. read more
