I was flying out of Ottawa on United Airlines to a city in the USA. Here, you go through Canadian immigration, then USA immigration and customs, then airport security before entering the Terminal. While there are several steps, and I was unfamiliar with the process at this airport, it was easy. Agents are present to guide you through, and all were friendly. Among all my preparations, emptying pockets, and ensuring I would not set off any alarms, I forgot to empty my refillable water bottle before starting through airport security and the scanner picked it up... (Perhaps if I'd had one more cup of coffee... ) The agent there was kind enough to take it back and empty it for me and return the bottle. There was another man who did the same thing as me, and they helped him out too. That was very kind as he could have made me go back and start over. Everything was clean and orderly. As I entered the Terminal there was a Jack Hortons, then down the escalator there was a duty free shop and a restaurant. I arrived 2 hours prior to boarding, but could have waited another 60 to 90 minutes and had plenty of time. Thanks. Ottawa!

I got the Thai Chicken Salad ($25.50). I asked for the salad dressing on the side, and it came as requested. I advised her I was allergic to sesame seeds and poppy seeds and she let me know the manager will come and speak with me, as that is their practice for all allergies. The manager came and let me know that the salad and dressing did not contain sesame or poppy seeds, but there's this crunchy mix they have that they purchase but no longer have the packaging so cannot rule out contact with sesame. We decided that the best option would be to have it on the side and I could visually inspect it and decide whether I wanted to eat it or not. I appreciated their extra attention to allergies. I didn't see any sesame seeds in the crunchy mix, so I added it to my salad (I can tolerate sesame oil, just not actual seeds, so I was confident I'd be fine). I enjoyed the crunchy texture it added. The salad was mostly arugula with maybe some cilantro or other herb. The amount of chicken was very little, but at least it was lean breast meat. It had shredded carrots and red cabbage. Avocado slices, cashews and pumpkin seeds. The dressing was a creamy cashew dressing. I enjoyed the salad. I was going to get some dessert, as I love their mini desserts, especially "bite of brownie" but I was surprisingly too full. The fish was mediocre, and the fries relied on condiments and salt to be halfway decent. Service was fine as well. It can get pretty busy (writing this two years and three months since the start of the pandemic), so waiting times can get pretty long. As such, the atmosphere was fine; people mostly kept to themselves. Overall, I should lower my standard for airport restaurants.
