Eh, this place isn't amazing. Service was alright. I ordered the Kuong Pao Shrimp-the shrimp was good and had a lot of flavor, however, I felt the veggies were undercooked and needed to be sautéed longer. Also had an order of egg rolls and wasn't really impressed, it was mostly just fried batter and a little bit of filling. The egg drop soup, however, was pretty good. Everything from the appetizer to the General's chicken was top notch. Nothing tasted prepared. The hot and sour soup was like no other I have tasted, chunks of fresh veggies, and meat topped it off. I have never seen nor tasted General's chicken like this, the sauce was clear and reduced to perfection, not sticky and clumping into a mass. We will be visiting again and often. read more

OK we're from out of town, we like Asian food, it's convenient, let's take a chance. Glad we did. I say this in the most sincere way possible, I literally have never been so disappointed and offended by food in my life. We ordered pick up and I probably wish we just never picked it up at all. The side rices are the equivalent of 2 spoonfuls, the egg rolls were less than mediocre, they barely gave any pork in their moo shoo, the sesame chicken was absolutely horrible, all of the food was very, very cold. I am not a food fussy person and never post to Yelp, however I feel as though I really needed to warn you before you drop $30-$40 on a dinner for two. I moved to Montana 9 years ago, and the regional hub for the western prairie side of the Rockies here is Great Falls. I have been going OUT OF MY MIND trying to find a decent Chinese place in this state, and have been hugely disappointed in still not really finding it in Great Falls. I went to Maple Garden a few months ago with high hopes of maybe finding my Shangri-la. Word of mouth comments I'd heard from others said that the place was really spendy for what you got, and that what you got wasn't all that great. I'm sad to say that I have to pretty much agree with that evaluation. I asked the server for their most popular combo. It wasn't TERRIBLE, but it wasn't MEMORABLE. What I do remember is feeling very glad, when I got the check, that I'd gone there to try out their food by myself. Admittedly, perhaps I have a little buffet bias going on with my disappointment. I guess I don't mind having a higher tab if I feel like I was able to try as much as I wanted of all the tastes available. I've been stationed at Osan Korea and travelled extensively there to know real authentic Korean food. So what the hell is Maple Garden serving. Their side dishes may smell and taste Korean but what is up with their Bulgolgi? When I went in there I knew I was not going to get anything close to what I was used to in Korea but forced myself to eat it since I had already payed for it. The materials they use and the preparation to the cooking methods used to make the main staple of Korean culture was not there. Why is that when Asians introduce the beauty of their country's culinary cuisine they must be subject to Americanization. Their food have gone the way of American Chinese, Japanese, Thai and Indian food restaurants which is sadening because Korean dishes are one of the most unique that I've tasted in Asia. Sure I might have had an unfair advantage of eating really great Korean food as opposed to what they are trying to pass off as Korean here in the states. But if your hungry enough I guess a person would bring themselves to eat anything. I really don't recommend this place. read more

Korean owned Maple Garden is pretty much standard when it comes to your basic Chinese food. I really wish they would be a little more aggressive an add more Korean dishes to their menu. I only visited once and my guest and I ordered only appetizers. They were mediocre but tasty. Then came the kimchi. WOW! This is the best kimchi I have eaten since I last visited Korea. It was crisp, flavorful and, best of all, homemade. Kimchi has a bad rap. It is not some over-spiced, garlic saturated, rotten cabbage dish. It is a delicious, very healthful, addition to a meal. Even the most timid will like this. Those folks know how to do it right. The service was warm and efficient and I would go back for lunch or dinner just to have more of that wonderful kimchi. I hope they are around for a long, long time. Great Falls needs more diversity like that in their restaurants. read more

Since I wasn't able to get service I can't rate the food. I walked in and the sign said seat yourself which I did. I sat for over five minutes with no sign of any employees. A couple got up to pay their bill and a man sitting at a table who had an apron on and was not eating jumped up to help them. Meanwhile another person walked in sat down and was greeted with water and hot tea. I sat for 2 more minutes as both the man at the register and waitress both made eye contact with me. Love coming here after church on sundays, the service is efficient (unless it's very busy, then super slow), and friendly. The bulgogi is amazing, also top notch kim chee. Definitely pay the extra buck for fried rice with any meal. I have not enjoyed some other menu items I've tried so much though. Delicious Mother's Day buffet today! Glad we were able to come. We thought it would be a long wait as there was a long line and lots of reservations, but the wait was it long at all. My wife and I have been going to this restaurant for several years and always had good Chinese and Korean. On our last visit two weeks ago she noticed a hair in her chow mein. We contacted the waitress and she brought the cook. They apologized but basically made no offer to replace the food or take cost off our bill. Probably will not be back. read more

I may revise this review because I felt it was just a busy night. We ordered food to-go and waited there. And when I say wait, I mean like waiiiiittttttt. It was forever! We watched so many people walk up and pick up their food and everyone getting served. After what seemed like FOREVER (at least 30 minutes) I get up and walked to the front counter. I couldn't wait any longer. The lady noticed me and a look of panic came across her face. She ran to the back and came back with my food. I don't know how long it was sitting back there but when we got home (which is only 5 minutes away at most) the crispy chicken and beef we got was no longer crispy. I give them 3 stars because the lady was apologetic and compared to other Chinese food in town, this place was actually pretty good. I'm sure it would have been better if my good was still fresh. Went in on a Friday night at 9pm last month. There was a lady vacuuming the rug who rudely said, "we're closing," even though they close at 10pm. She then asked if we wanted food to go and I said no, "we were kinda hoping to sit down and eat," and she got upset and seated us close to the door. I get it that nobody was in the restaurant, but we would have spent 100 dollars--I eat a lot of food. Some man at the counter was very rude, too. He said something which I will never forget. "Some of us want to go home after a long day, it's nothing personal." After that, after feeling so uncomfortable and unwelcome--especially an hour before their scheduled close, I took my date and we left. LAST WORDS HE SAID WERE "You can stay, it's fine." We wanted to like this. I mean we REALLY wanted to like this. It takes a lot for me to give a poor review, but previously coming from an area that has no shortage of "okay" Chinese restaurants, unfortunately we really didn't enjoy it. I ordered food to go and got some "hot and sour soup", the Yushang chicken and the yaki mandu. My husband got the orange chicken and an order of crab rangoon. To be fair, we noticed all the previous reviews spoke highly of the Korean fare. The yaki mandu were pretty darn good and I'm sure would be even better if eaten fresh at the restaurant. Yet, these just could not make up for everything else. The hot and sour soup was terrible. It tasted like cheap egg drop soup with white vinegar and pepper added. It was just not right. My expectation of yushang chicken is something rich, garlicky, and spicy. This was the opposite. I was a little hesitant when I pulled the box out of the to-go bag and it was contained within another plastic bag. I opened it and it was very soupy and unpleasantly sweet. It reminded me of a very bland moo goo gai pan with extra sugar and a few red pepper flakes added. The veggies in it were onions, bamboo shoots and zuchinni. Zucchini? Really? I asked my husband to describe his orange chicken. I was over trying anything else at this point. Well, he tried it twice and decided he just couldn't anymore. He called the rangoon "rubbery". We threw everything away and just ate the yaki mandu. This was the ONLY reason it got two stars. We were very disappointed, especially when this wasn't the cheapest "chinese" food around. We may give it a chance again in the future but ONLY if we want Korean fare. Sad panda. read more
