We are staying at northstar and came up to the hotel for dinner one night. It's a stunning setting, we will stay here next time for sure! ! We got top notch service. Our salad was delicious, with fresh peaches and strawberries in it. The branzino was good. We ordered a few desserts too. The chocolate crème brûlée tasted incredible, but definitely not a crème brûlée by any means. The fruit tart was just okay. read more

Let me start by saying that the service is ALWAYS excellent. This review if for food, and is an averages of my many visits. I have posted some photos of some phenomenal dishes. I have had at Manzanita. I have had some of my best and unfortunately truly worst dishes at this restaurant. This is 100% unacceptable for a resort of this caliber. I had the worst meal ever on Wednesday night. The Amuse-Boucher was the only hit. It was , The fact that the hotel was maybe 10% occupancy is no excuse. I had to send back the tuna sashimi, which seemed to irritate the chef. It did not look good, but I did try it and it tasted terrible. The clam "pottage" had the consistency that I prefer (thin and not rouxlike) but found only bacon/ham chunks and no clams. The Brussels sprouts were okay. We have been to the Ritz in Half Moon Bay and were excited to go to this location. The valet and entrance to the hotel reminded me a little of Vegas... very swanky. The Manzanita is elegant, modern and chic at the same time very comfortable, not stuffy. The dining room is an open concept and you can see the chefs and staff working in the kitchen. Our waitress was fantastic - very professional and attentive. I was a little surprised to see such a short menu of options. My glass of wine was almost $40. We ordered the Tuna Sashimi appetizer and it was brought with a crunchy seaweed roll that was difficult to break up. The tuna was good with the sauce provided. Next, we split the double pork chop. It was served family style where we had to plate it ourselves. There were four pieces and only one piece had sauce on it. The meat was tough and over cooked. What a disappointment. However, the add-on truffle mashed potatoes were delicious. Dessert was also a highlight. All in all, expensive and not that good. We won't be back. read more

We stayed the night at the Ritz for my bday, and I had been wanting to try Manazanita out for awhile, so I was very happy we went! And it was great, amazing food and great service too! We had a nice bottle of Pinot, and a great conversation with the som. She was very informative and made some great food menu recommendations as well. We got the bread with the black garlic butter, the clam chowder (but a fancy version of clam chowder, more like a bisque), the sunchokes appetizer, the pork chop, Brussels sprouts and a yummy lemon dessert! It was all great, and we will definitely be back the next time we are up in the Tahoe area! So if you're looking for fine dining in North lake, you should definitely go here. A family dinner here was a highlight of our stay at the Ritz. Only bump was the kids menu we'd been told about over the phone was unavailable, but they were accommodating for our picky eaters regardless. This is a great date night or special occasion restaurant as it's upscale but with a casual mountain vibe. The service is superior and the food is seasonal and eclectic. The menu is not extensive but the food is excellent and has something for everyone to enjoy. We ordered a couple of appetizers and sides to share and each got our own entree. Everything was plated beautifully and visually appealing. They present a complimentary first round of focaccia ($2.50 per slice after that) and a complimentary spiced tea to enjoy alongside it. We were celebrating a birthday and the staff made sure to acknowledge it with a special dessert plate and candle. My favorite dish of the night was the 72 hour short rib. Surprised by many of the low reviews. Manzanita and their staff went above and beyond to make my anniversary with my wife great! The food was adventurous with a Hispanic spin, I genuinely think most people that come here are not open to new, interesting flavors involving mole, verde, and more! Subtle, welcoming, and great vibes. It's in the Ritz Carlton and it lives up to that status (especially with the price!). We are staying at the Ritz and this restaurant is actually pretty disappointing. The dinner menu offerings were pretty limited but we went with a filet mignon and the branzino. Both were bland yet still cost more than what you'd pay anywhere else. I honestly think Outback makes a better steak. Service was fine at dinner although the sommelier had the personality of a wet mop when serving our almost $1k bottle of wine. Zero enthusiasm whatsoever. Breakfast was horrible service overall. I ordered a pastry and eggs and my husband ordered the huevos rancheros. I received my eggs about 15 minutes after all of the other food arrived and the server made zero apologies. When it came time to pay our bill we had to walk our credit card up to another server to pay. Just two disappointing experiences and more is expected at a Ritz. read more

I've never written a yelp review before. I've never felt the need. However, tonight was a different story. Every dish we ordered was 10/10. The service was attentive and seamless, creating a welcoming atmosphere without ever feeling rushed. Each dish was expertly prepared, beautifully presented, and simple; without trying too hard. A true standout restaurant that excels in both cuisine and hospitality. I would expect nothing less from the Ritz-Carlton. I look forward to returning. The service was great and friendly. The food mediocre. The chicken sausage was so dry and lacked flavor. The pork sausage was also so dry. Eggs asked for fried it basically was not fried. The French toast was good crust but came with caramel which was just added nothing but overpowered by too much sweet. read more

I know prices reflect it's on a ski slope in a ritz Carlton, but menu is limited and it's crazy expensive relative to quality of food. My tenderloin here is medium rare. That being said, I will eat here again next time we are skiing at the ritz. read more

Lovely ambiance, amazing service, and delicious food. We've had the perfect time at every visit for the past few years. The cocktails are served beautifully and tasty. Cocktails and apps by the bar is ideal if you don't have a reservation. We had dinner at the bar once and it was livelier but classy. The menu changes, which is a nice touch to keep things interesting. From entering the restaurant with our coats taken, to the genuine welcome and courteous walk to the table, the sommelier recommendation of a fine wine, and the server's attentiveness, to the extravagant tasting cocktails from the bartender and the decadent dishes by the chef, including the warming farewell at the end of the night - it's always a wonderful experience at Manzanita. read more

The service was mediocre. The hostess was great but our server was not. We waited 15 minutes in a half empty restaurant before getting acknowledged by our server. One of our dishes never showed. One was wrong. The food was worse. The "arugula salad" was wilted. The kids chicken soup was like drinking salt. While the servers are lovely and attentive, I don't think the rate of $175 for a 3 course Thanksgiving menu (appetizer, main course and dessert), and another $100 for the wine pairing (only two different wines on offer, two glasses total) is worth it. The restaurant and hotel are not decorated for the holidays, there's no table cloth on the table. It didn't feel very festive. You can do much better elsewhere, I think. read more

Second time we ate here. Really enjoyed the 1st time, but this was a different experience. The hosted seemed completely lost and awkward. Our server was kind, but her and her helpers were not very experienced and the service was overall clumsy. I expect a lot better for the price point. This was unfortunate. read more

What I loved most about this place is the vibe -beautiful and super cozy and the service. Manzanita is located in the upscale Ritz Carlton, but the restaurant itself seems to run as its own entity (they won't know much about the property s'more hours, gondola hours etc but can guide you) Now the food - expectedly higher price point, balanced flavours and decent selection. Special mention don't pass on the butter with the bread service - was really good! :) if you dine here, you're paying for the experience more than anything. Tips - 1. We had a pleasant evening, if you're on a date night, sit by the windows it over looks the gardens and slopes 2. The gondola to the "village" next door is a 3 min walk, service back and forth in the summer stops at around 10pm. 3. If you are staying at the hotel, they have s'mores by the fire and a rotating cocktail complimentary for guests. read more

Ugh, I really wanted to like this place. We went here with my in laws for a nice adults only dinner. The first thing that was frustrating was the cost to park the car. $25 - half of what it would be normally just to park at the Ritz. Ugh. We had tried earlier in the day to find out how late the gondola ran so that we could park in the village lots and take the gondola up - but we couldn't find anyone that knew the hours or had information at all. I'd suggest that this info should be made part of the reservation process. So - once you swallow the $25 parking fee you head inside. It's a beautiful building with wood accents and a large stone fireplace. The ambience was what you'd expect from a nice hotel restaurant. My family will typically drink wine - but as the cheapest by the glass was over $40 we decided to forgo beverages. The menu was full of fresh ingredients - we started with a caprese salad and hamachi. Both were tasty - happy to see heirloom tomatoes in the caprese. Our entrees included gnocchi with meatballs, cauliflower steak and corn soup. Everything served was good - though for the price I felt it lacking. I could tell our server was irritated that we didn't order more - especially alcohol or dessert. Our booth view faced the courtyard where there was a wedding reception taking place....not quite the beautiful mountainside vista we were hoping for. I always wondered about this spot - and now I know we aren't missing something extraordinary....Glad we checked it out but happy to look elsewhere for an upscale dinner in Truckee. read more

We spent over $600 for three of us for dinner a couple weeks back and the food was just meh. Nothing terrible, but certainly nothing exciting. The worst part was the lighting!! The pendant lights hanging over the table were insanely bright. It felt like we were eating in a school cafeteria. Not the kind of place you'd want to linger. Please get the lighting fixed. This was my first time here and first time dining at a Ritz. Our waitress was a peach and we enjoyed her presence throughout our meal. The complimentary bread (gluten free for me!) and butter was so tasty and appreciated. We also thought the complimentary gazpacho was tasty (even my 8 year old said so). The halibut sashimi was WONDERFUL and I could've eaten another plate (just for myself). My husband and I have been to coming to Manzanita for at least 10+ years for our an annual date on our family ski vacation. The pricing has gotten absolutely out of control. $85 for a pork chop - are you kidding me? $32 for a cocktail? I have lived in San Francisco and New York and never paid these prices. Additionally, I ordered the duck last night and the plate it was served on was absolutely ridiculous. It's really challenging to eat a bone in piece of meat when it's plopped on top of a 2" ceramic pavlova. The celery root purée was pasty and needed salt and it was topped with very wet, unseasoned frisée. The dish desperately needed some acid. Finally, throughout our dinner, tons of kids kept passing by with corn dogs and rice crispy treats. If this place is trying to be fine dining with exorbitant prices, that's not the right ambiance... read more

We were told that fish is their specialty, so 2 of us ordered the muscle plate and the others ordered the cod, with shareable sides of carrots, truffle potatoes and mushrooms. Before the meal came out there was a bizarre showing of a special offering from the chef in a heated wooden box with 4 corn balls sitting on some dried beans with a pine branch. It tasted like chewy corn and strong scent of pine. The main course was very bland and tasteless. The muscles were cooked fine but lacked any flavor. The cods seemed slightly undercooked and also flavorless. We started searching the table for salt to find none. The carrots were the most embarrassing, seasoned and cooked on the outside but raw on the inside. Minimal outside flavor and extremely crunchy uncooked carrot on the inside. The potatoes were bland and also seemed like they were missing salt. The mushrooms were probably the tastiest part. Most of us took some fried chicken our kids got from the kids buffet and put in the sauce from the fish, tasted almost like chicken Marsala, and more flavorful than anything else. It's really easy to just order room service while chilling at the Ritz, but the level of care from the staff here makes it worth putting on fuzzy sandals and coming downstairs. The Argentina host in the front and our waiter ask us about our story and shared theirs. There's something in the tahoe community's water , because everyone here is so open, and that's so refreshing. Lobster bisque came with a generous claw in a pool of deliciousness. The white wine sauce of their fresh fish of the day (I got Halibut) completely made me go home and try to recreate it. It was just one of the best sauces I ever had, and it wasn't heavy on butter. The mash potatoes were on top of this world as well, with a hint of truffle. read more

We originally had a reservation at 8:30 pm but were able to get a walk-in table instead around 5:30 pm. Our party ordered: - Gem Leaf Salad There's nothing else to say other than it's a good salad! I recommend ordering 2 if you have a big party. Otherwise, you'll probably only be able to have a few bites. - Butternut Squash Soup For me, it was too sweet (Might be because of the coconut foam), but the person who ordered it in my party said it got better as you continued to drink it and the flavor from the roasted pumpkin seeds offset it. - Piedmontese New York The person who ordered this said the steak was tender and flavorful! I tried a few bites and agreed that it was a pretty decent steak :) - Steelhead Trout I don't particularly enjoy fish, but the trout was cooked perfectly! It was tender while the skin was crispy, and the parsnip puree paired very well. Others commented that they enjoyed trying the romanesco as well. - Diver Scallops This is the dish I ordered, and I might be biased, but I would say it was the best out of everything we ordered. Usually, when there are scallops on a menu, restaurants skimp on the portions, but Manzanita was very generous! Everything was cooked very well. The scallops had a nice golden brown sear while remaining perfectly cooked. The saltiness of the pork belly paired well with the subtle sweetness of the cauliflower puree. Some parts were just fat, but that's how pork belly usually is. - Halibut The first time we got the halibut, it was very disappointing. It was overcooked and dry, the opposite of how it should be. The restaurant was visibly packed, and we could hear all the orders the kitchen staff were receiving from the open kitchen, so we understood that it was not on purpose. We told this to our server, and she kindly offered to have another one cooked for us. This time, the halibut was perfectly cooked and very tender. - Lamb Shank First, the portion was HUGE. It came with two large lamb shanks, and the person who ordered this raved about how tender it was. They said the couscous was just ok, but everything else was great, and it was worth the price! Overall, Manzanita is probably the best meal we've had so far during our short stay in Truckee. Our server was very attentive and courteous; she helped us immediately with the Halibut issue and answered any menu questions. Other than that, I would say the food took a little bit on the longer side, but again they were packed tonight. We look forward to trying their breakfast menu next :) read more

It was very snowy and didn't have anywhere else to go for dinner so ended up here at Manzanita. The service from beginning to end was amazing, I'd expect nothing less than the quality of customer focus from the restaurant staff from the moment u walk in, till the moment you go to ur room! That's right, even if your outside and have questions they're still there to help. Now on the other hand is the food options. Maybe the food options are just not what I normally would order and the menu is very limited. But I knew this prior too, the lamb shank really had a subtle flavor. For me it was bland. Prob wouldn't eat here next time, maybe the living room as it has the types of food I like. I'm still leaving a 5 star rating because the expectations for others might be 5 star but for me personally I would have left a 4 star rating for the flavor pallet it was lacking in my dish. read more

Really well thought out menu that gives every person an option when it comes to dinner! We spread out our options and got steak, lamb and the octopus and scallops as entrees. Each was more delicious than the last. I preferred the lamb over all the choices for size and taste, but the steak was very good and the octopus was great. For appetizers and sides we got the rosemary bread rolls, butternut squash soup and the Brussel sprouts with bacon. The Brussels were very tasty, the soup was delicious and the butter options with the rolls were great. The help was very knowledgeable and very quick to help us and get us rolling with dinner. My husband snd I decided we wanted to have a special dinner, we had never had a meal at the Ritz Carlson. We decide to split our dinner since we were going to also have soap and desert. We ordered the Osso Buco which came with broccolini, roasted potatoes, and carrots. The Osso Buco had too much fat on it, what we cut off didn't leave us a lot of meat. We don't like broccolini so asked if we could have mushrooms instead. The mushrooms did not look like mushrooms I've fixed or that I've seen at any restaurant. They looked like they were freeze dried. The 4 skinny pieces of carrots were not very good and they were so thin. We ordered lobster bisque and there were a couple of king pieces of liver pieces. Too long to eat with a spoon. They should have been cut up pieces to eat them easily. The desert was like a smores. Marshmallows melted with gram crackers and a piece of chocolate on top. There were three marshmallows that were hard that we cut split them with our spoons to make pieces, that was impossible. It was a very expensive dinner, over $200 with my husbands glass of wine. This was one entree, one soup and one desert. The last thing that ruined our dinner was the chef was speaking,, like yelling to the cooks and Eve in the restaurant could hear her. We told the hostess and she said we were the second person to complain about how loud she was. Won't recommend this restaurant. read more
